Tell me please that this is wrong. That was Taylor’s shining moment of the whole Season – still gives me chills. That one should be retired, IMO.

I absolutely love Joe Cocker singing You Are So Beautiful .. so I’m not looking forward to Danny phlegming his way through it and gazing doey eyed into the camera ….

I liked Taylor’s version even though I wasn’t a fan of his and Alexandra Burke sang this on the X-factor final last year, Once again Danny shows no originality at all.

Well, if Danny is singing that, I think it is a great choice. It’s not original, but the public in general want a song that they know. And given the dance song he got from the judges, he needs a love song as the other choice. As long as he doesn’t look up–gazing up to Heaven–I think he’ll do great with it.

Man, that back-up singer cannot spell. I had to read the comments three times before I got the idea of what she was talking about.

I’m not a Taylor Hicks fan, so I don’t care if Danny does YASB. Even so, I doubt his will live up to Taylor’s from what I’ve heard.

As for Danny’s song choice, if that’s true it’s probably a good song for him although I find the idea of it almost painfully boring.

Kris, dig deep and blow everyone’s mind with your “surprise.” And make something new and wonderful out of “Apologize,” which I think is a fine choice for you if you can Kris-icize it.

I so want to see the tortoise come out of his shell tonight. Danny husking his way through “You Are So Beautiful,” the thought makes me cringe. It’s good for his voice, yup. But I think Taylor owns that one.

Though Taylor is indeed a mixed bag since he left the show, Simon never liked him and very reluctantly praised him on this and as he was headed for the finish line. Danny is def getting much more respect, and I have no idea why except that backstory/Christian audience thing — neither of which accounts for all the ridiculous judge wet-kissing of the guy over our far more interesting, humble and musically sophisticated Kris…

I think that YASB is perfect SAFE choice of song for Danny. He has got the great voice for this. But I remember last week when I read he would be singing dream on, I was thinking he will nail it perfectly as well…but he was improvising so much during the whole song that it was disaster….the last note was like bonus disaster lol…

THIS. And not just Simon, they all have the opportunity to change it up and make it interesting, but no… They’re going to using boring overplayed songs. Unless Simon gets Wicked Games for Adam, which would be amazing and I would have no reason to complain about him.

But they’re always going on about song choice, so maybe they should DO something when they get the chance. Remember last year when Randy chose Syesha song, and then told her he didn’t like the song for her? Whaaaaat, dawg?!

I don’t understand why you think these songs are repetitive.
The 4 songs discussed for judge’s choice have never been performed during the competition. Apologize and One have been performed for duets during the finale but that’s all.

I love YASB, I thought it was an excellent choice when Randy gave it to Taylor, who then proceeded to throw down the gauntlet in a huge way. Danny’s voice may suit it, but the reason that song worked for Taylor is because of the emotion he put into it. We hadn’t really seen that side of Taylor before he sang YASB and he completely connected to it. Danny has proven he’s not up to the task of connecting with a song, so I’m predicting it will be just like Danny: safe and boring.

That was one of the few performances Simon actually liked of Taylor’s, he called it his best vocal of the season. I truly hope he doesn’t continue on his Taylor hating rampage and compare Danny favorably to him. That’ll just piss me off.

That said, yay for spoilers this early! I’m glad you’ve got some insiders for tonight, MJ!

… You need to sound vulnerable with the falsetto on the last note to make “You Are So Beautiful” sound right.

I’m going out on a limb here, but maybe Adam is singing both Wicked Game and One? Wicked Game (the HIM version) might be his personal choice, and One was Simon’s Choice. That would give Adam his 1 slow song and 1 performance-oriented song.

Regarding YASB for Danny. I actually think YASB is a good choice. Although there will be MANY comparisons to Taylor’s version, which was spectacular.

oh you guys–Danny will probably do well with that song. I don’t think it will be the best thing anyone’s ever heard or anything, but it’s a simple ballad and he’s a decent singer. He does have a falsetto, so he’ll do fine with the note at the end, if he ends it that way. It might be a bit of a yawn, but it will probably be good or quite good.

It’s a good choice–the average person in the US isn’t as engaged as the community here at MJs. Most people just want to hear a song they know, and they don’t want their sensibilities stretched or their horizons widened. Danny is judging his audience well here.

I do so hope that it’s a Kris/Adam final though.

Someone on one of our forums in the UK has posted to say that they’ve just heard Paula on the radio and that she said that U2 would be represented on the show tonight … so that probably means it’s “One” for Adam’s judges choice.

Isn’t Laurie Ann Gibson/ Boomkack the choreographer from Making the Band? I’m thinking she’s probably doing something for the background dancers for Jordin’s performance.

YASB could work out well for Danny, it’s a slow song to balance out Paula’s uptempo pick. There’s lots of “long” notes he can draw out and do runs or whatever on. We’ll have to see how trashed his voice is though.

Ehh, I’m not a huge fan of “You are so beautiful” (for ANY contestant) but Danny could probably pull that off.

I really hope that Adam doesn’t sing “One.” I can’t imagine taking that 4-5 minute song and making it fit in the 2 minutes he’d have to sing it.

I feel that by cutting the song in half, you really lose the impact of the verses. Which is my favorite part of the song.

It would be one thing if the Judges chose YASB for Danny…but him chosing it? Can we declare a Day of Mediocrity in his honor? Could there be a less original song choice?

Just listened to Wicked Game–I didn’t know that was the name of that song. Kind of old–91–but it is perfect for Adam. Touching but haunting–kind of like Adam. One is a good song for any good singer, but Wicked Game really is perfect for Adam.

If he does get to sing it, I wonder if his second song will be a rock/uptempo song to balance it?

Regarding the order for tonight: Since Adam opened the show last week, I’m betting they don’t put Adam #1. If they stay consistent and put the contestant’s choice last, I think the order could be:

Kris (I bet they open the show with Kris. TPTB seem to want to have him gone; that puts his second song after Adam doing One/Wicked Game.

Danny (if he is doing YASB, do you want that to be after Adam does a big, powerful closing performance?)

Adam (he said that his fans would really like his pick and Simon gave him one of two slower songs — I’m betting on updated retro rock. Is it time for Adam to finally do a Bowie song? Queen?

Performance order SHOULD be: Danny, Adam, Kris. Which means it WILL be Kris, Danny, Adam.

Danny, Adam, Kris is how it should go. But it probably WILL go Kris, Danny, Adam. Because life isn’t fair.

Honestly, Adam and Kris (or Allison. Boo.) deserve to be in the finale. Both of them have proven themselves to not only be good singers, but to be creative as well. Yeah, the creativity doesn’t always pan out (although it mostly does), but at least they are both acting like they care about the competition. On the other end of the spectrum, we have Danny, who “gets bored.” Gee, Danny, I wonder why? Maybe it’s because you aren’t TRYING. You think you are so AWESOME that you don’t have to sing on key or show one ounce of creativity. His flippant attitude is getting on my last nerve.

Danny’s voice is so shredded at this point, he will sound EXACTLY like Joe C. Yes, this song fits his vocals, but what a safe, boring choice. When Taylor did it in Season 5, he did a straight up version but he was restrained and that was a plus because it was different from his usual schtick. But this is Season 8 and we a soooo beyond karaoke at this point. How will Danny change is up? Add a few doo doo whot doos in there? Why is it that Danny merely has to not be terrible and he is a shoo-in for the final?

I wonder if Danny will ape Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s YASB performance note for note and movement for movement or come up with his own special doo-be-doo-be-doo version?

One is probably one of my top 5 favorite songs ever, so I’m both curious and a little worried about how Adam will sing it. Kris, I think we’ve talked out Apologize since we found it out a few days ago and there’s no new info to work on…his song picks tend to be pretty good but once in a while he’ll bomb (All She Wants To Do Is Dance). I liked that tiny bit of Hollywood “Everything” we saw that Kara was so impressed by so I hope it’s something of that vibe.

Dear Danny Gokey,

I have tried really hard not to buy into the instant hate that was thrown at you from early on in the season. However, between that weird way you have of throwing a run into the middle of the word or pronouncing things like “Reeeeeeever” instead of “River”, and picking schmaltzy crap like Endless Love, Jesus Take the Wheel, etc. – it has been really difficult to accept you. Just when I was about to forgive you for Jesus Take the Wheel, you caterwaul your way through one of my favorite songs (“Dream On”) and ultimately scare all the cats in the neighborhood with the last note. For a minute, I actually thought you were screwing with ME on purpose. What did I ever do to you, Danny?

And now, if said spoiler is true, and you sing “You Are So Beautiful” and still make it to the finals? I’m pretty sure puppies will cry. And I will have to finally give in to that creeping hate sensation that has been coming on slowly all season long. I don’t think it is gonna matter what the order is. There are only three. To say the least, I’d rather see Adam go last rather than Danny and his You are so beautiful rendition as he looks up to the sky and tears up. I think he is gonna confuse this with the academies. Wrong statue Danny.

I am really bummed if it is true that Adam is doing One. I have listened to it extensively and it is just okay for me. Although he can make anything incredible. But I just saw Wicked Game written all over Adam. He would have knocked that out of the park. It was so Adam. So since One is a ballad I can’t wait to see what he is gonna do for his up-tempo song.

Anyways, Adam fans, the more I read and hear, the more I think we’d better be fan voting like crazy tonight. Danny is gonna have god voting for him and Kris’ fanbase is really strong. Come on just two hours guys!

In a way, isn’t the lack of talk about Kris somewhat like his style? Not much to say, but one heck of a statement when something is said/done! :)

So none of the judges talking about Kris — they have barely mentioned him all season and he’s in the Final 3. Kris got the most current and most interesting judges pick. If he pairs it with something that really showcases his musical talent, he’ll be in the Finals.

If Danny really picked “You Are So Beautiful”, then he will prove he really is “Karaoke Gokey” because there is no way Danny will put a new spin on that song.

Predictions for tonight (at least #3 is right):

1. Unless Kris is perfect twice, the judges will try to get rid of him.

2. Danny will get in something about his voice being worn out AND will associate his song with his personal tragedy. Perhaps, YASB was her favorate song?

3. Adam will finally perform 2 solos on one show.

If Adam does sing “ONE” I wouldn’t be suprised if he gets emotional after singing it due it’s powerful meaning for him personally

For Adam “Wicked” would be a brilliant choice while “One”, not so much. “One” must have gotten its name by being utterly one-dimensional. The song has no moment, no glory notes, no range. It is a boring choice for someone with Adam’s vocal skills.

Since Simon hates boring and wants Adam to win, I have a feeling he choose “Wicked” for him and not “One”. Given his goals, if Simon chose “One” he needs his head examined.

I don’t think performance order is that crucial now that there’s only 3 of them left…hopefully the viewers’ attention spans are not so short they can’t hold 3 contestants in mind for an hour :laugh_tb:

But there IS an advantage if you can close the show with a bang. That’s up to the performer though. We’re looking ballad heavy with the songs so far so who knows, maybe Danny will finally get his pimpspot — with Dance Little Sister, lol.

I checked Britney’s songlist, and most, if not all, of them are synthesised to bits, which would not do Adam’s voice justice. Didn’t the contestants do Britney’s “Circus” in a Ford commercial anyway? And for all of Adam’s assets, a skin-tight dress/skimpy clothes and chair dancing is so not Adam.

And in season 6, Jordin had the pimp spot in top 12, 6, 4, and 2, while Melinda had it in top 11, 6 (part ii), and 3. So if tptb that be want to give it to Danny or Adam, I have no doubt that they will.

I disagree. Those who do “One” well — U2, obviously, and MJB — build a crescendo, and the “moment” comes with the reverse chord sequence in the final verse. It’s definitely the harder song for Adam, though, because it’s both earnest and epic, and because it doesn’t fit in — vocally or thematically — with what he’s done so far. In that sense, “Wicked Game” is almost too perfect for him.

I will heartily agree, though, that there are some bad covers of “One” out there, mainly because they go over the top from the first note. I hope Adam’s doesn’t join their ranks.

ETA: I just listened to Paula’s podcast interview. What’s interesting is that she says, “U2 will be representing this week. That I can tell you.” Now, it takes a special kind of innocence to take Paula’s words at face value, but the fact that she can reveal that U2′s being sung implies that “Wicked Game” was the one with clearance issues, right? Or am I reading way too much into this?

There is a song that I have actually been dying to hear Kris sing. It’s called Jezebel by Two Hours Traffic and I think he would do it so well. It’s got that indie singer songwriter vibe but it is uptempo.

I was extremely surprised to find out that Johnny Cash had done a cover of “One”. Marty Casey was forced to perform “Hit Me Baby One More Time” on Rockstar INXS – I think it was judge’s choice and INXS wanted to see how Marty would respond to the challenge and he was brilliant. In fact he noted after his performance that it was a better written song than even he had given it credit for. He did so well I think that cemented his position as one of the 2 frontrunners. True artists can make just about anything their own.

And though I enjoy Marty as a performer, he is very charismatic, Adam’s voice is vastly superior.

I’m so unhappy about Danny singing YASB. It kills me to say this, but it probably won’t be totally horrible (throwback to Simon/Sanjaya!). It will probably be preceded by Danny talking about his wife’s funeral at his church during his hometown visit. The sympathy voters will be drawn back to Danny. I hope he tries to emulate the end of YASB – maybe it will be Scream-lite!

Thank God that Adam went to visit the troops in San Diego and sang the National Anthem in front of a huge flag (he even said “I’m proud to be an American”). I hope they play clips from that and Danny’s version of the national anthem that same day. Worlds apart, talent-wise.

Sigh. It will be a long hour tomorrow. Who do you think Ryan will send to safety first? If Kris made the top 2, even though he was saved first last week for shock value, I think the suspense of Adam/Danny would be the producer’s dream. I took the plunge into full-on loathing when Danny started to applaud himself after his performances. Watching his self-congratulatory clapping really sets me off.

My head is usually in my hands by that point of the evening, so I tend to miss that because my eyes are covered. Ugh. Such douchery.

And seriously, I was not on the Gokey Hate Train from Day 1 like a lot of people, but he just keeps getting on my last damn nerve and I can’t take it anymore.

As much as I have loved cheering on Adam, Kris and Allison. I’m glad there is only (at most) 2 more weeks of Danny, and then I can move on and enjoy SYTYCD.

Should be a good one for Danny, ugh. There aren’t too many lyrics to screw up in YASB right? Hopefully true Idol fans/voters can remember Taylor’s awesome version and compare them. Can’t wait to hear that last note. Go Adam!

Danny has an *arguable* good voice, but big whoop……tons of people out there have a good voice. But it does not go beyond that to me with him. Kris, as well as Adam, has shown time after time that not only do they have a good voice, they’ve got good instincts with song choices, they take risks, they create good music..they don’t just sing it… I have yet to be impressed with Danny whatsoever….and the fact that he can do no wrong according to the judges makes me sick to my stomach. One of the major TV guides has listings out for the TV schedule next week and this is what they have written about the show (there hasn’t been much written about AI in previous weeks other than the stadard listing)

If you’ve been following the internet traffic by fans, I think Kris fans have as many Gokey-haters as the Adam fans. I think Allison fans will mostly go to Adam because of their rock style and close relationship, and a lot of us feel like Allison got robbed by smug Danny. If the final two tomorrow night is between Danny and Kris and Danny gets to stay, I think Kris fans might revolt against Danny. Here’s hoping!

I dont think the Lamberts had even the tiniest teensiest issue with Adam’s being gay. I DO think however reading between the not-so-veiled-comments they DID have a bit of a time accepting his “look”. There’s a fairly recent clip where Adam mentions that he and his dad were talking and Adam basically said to him about the guyliner and nail polish “Get used to it”. And that was it. I think Eber sort of prides himself on his classic rock/Deadhead type roots – I think some of Adam’s taste in music (MJ, Madonna) offends him a bit. LOL There were a couple of soundbites where Eber mentioned that “Play That Funky Music” was his least favorite song of ALL TIME. Then there’s the confessional where he mentions that his mom gently suggested that “he tone down his look” and Adam responds “But mom, then I’m not really being Adam”. ROFL

Regarding Paula’s comment about U2 being represented, how likely is it that Kris comes out performing U2 and Adam does Wicked Game ahahaha.

Even though it is Kris’s turn I wouldn’t put it past the judges to give the last spot to someone else and give him the first spot.

Top 3 night back in Season 5, it was clearly Elliot Yamin’s turn to go last, yet he got the first place slot.

I can almost see them giving Danny the last slot, so that Adam gets it next week…but who knows…

If Adam does sing “One” tonight, I hope that if he makes it into the finale he sings “Wicked Game” at some point. I will be so bummed if we never hear his take on WG. *pouts*

Looking at the Kris fan sites, there appears to be a lot of Kris-Adam supportors but a lot of Kris fan/Danny “no way” people. Before last week the Danny “no way” sentiment seemed to be from young girls who think Kris is cute, people who like the fact that Kris is “humble” and see Danny as the “arrogant one”, and people who really appreciate Kris’ artistry.

After last week’s duets, there was a dramatic increase in negative sentiment against Danny for “showboating”, treating the duet as a competition, etc.

My guess:

If Kris goes, some votes go to Danny and some to Adam, but it might actually be based on the final performances.

If Danny goes, his voters will power vote against Adam. His fan sites are filled with Adam haters. (The word “hate” is one of the most common keywords in these comment.) And they WILL stop Adam if they can.

If Adam doesn’t make the Final, many of his voters won’t even watch the final show and most won’t even vote. (If this occurs, I expect people to call for a congressional investigation of Idol vote manipulation.) The global press will be all wrapped up with “America’s not ready …” stories, and the final winner will not be the big story.

The only story that could be bigger than Adam winning or Adam not winning, is if there is a Kris-Adam final and Kris wins. Then the Kris stories will be like “Seabiscuit” — the underdog wins the race — anyone can make it in America if they work hard.

All season Adam has been my #1, Kris my #2 — I would love a Kris-Adam final, even though the is the toughest path for Adam.

Suzie, we Kris fans will have no problem with the revolt. It is easy for us..because most of us find him revolting. If kris goes bye-bye after tonight, i’m gonna speculate that probably 10% go to Gokey, 75-80% to Adam, and the rest don’t vote. It would take something crazy for the Gokester to win this thing.

Why would you go by Internet traffic to determine what will happen to Danny? It’s already been proven week after week that the Internet isn’t exactly an accurate barometer to determine what’s going on with Danny.

I know that the performance order is somewhat of a big debate due to it being unfair to certain contestants and all that, but I’m just wondering if there was as much backlash in previous years? I didn’t follow blogs or message boards before, but it has sparked my curiosity so I took a look back on some of the past seasons, and it’s been pretty bad.

For example, Carrie Underwood got the last slot 3 out of 5 times from the Top 5 on. How did the play out? Melinda Doolittle who went out 3rd, got it 4 times while Blake Lewis only got it once. I was more of a casual viewer up until last year, so I honestly never even noticed the order, and thought it was just my draw. But now I see the ways of the producers..haha

I’m not so sure Kris votes necessarily go to Danny? The worship leader connection is not that well known. Those who vote for Kris’ music style (and/or his pretty face, haha) may just drop out…count me in this category.

Then there are the anyone-but-Adam/Danny votes, but I can’t imagine people would put 4 hrs worth of voting in based on that? Just cause I did 4 hour voting last year and it was exhausting and took every ounce of fangirl inspiration and DC-luv to go past the 2 hour mark, heh.

I had never heard Taylor’s YASB, and I found it ok, it’s just not my kind of singer, and kind of song. It’s quite a boring song unless you infuse it with soul and emotion, but it is quite easy to sing honestly, so the Gokey should not have too much trouble clearing the bar. Don’t think he can have a huge moment with it though

REM and U2 version of ONE is the best. Can see Adam – Michael Stipe even puts his arms in the air like Adam. This would be amazing….more emotion filled.

I would be VERY surprised if they save Kris first. They’ve been calling for an Adam / Danny final 2. In the ridiculous event that Adam is out this week – yes I don’t think I have enough heart to vote for Kris in the finale. He will have to fend for himself against Danny. Will the voting population be reduced? We don’t know because they will allow a 3 hour voting period… so there will always be a record breaking number of votes from the previous week. It will be good for the soul if the voting count suddenly plummeted after Adam is ousted.

I’m still not convinced that “One” is a good choice of song for Adam. That version w/ MJ Blige is a little more uptempo than the original, but to me it seems a little ‘stuck in limbo’ – not knowing whether it wants to be a “meaningful” song, or a “fun” song. I think Adam would have to go with a slow version to avoid “self-indulgent” criticisms from the judges – and as far as slower songs go, “Wicked Game” has a much bigger emotional punch, IMO (then again, I LOOOOVE W.G., so maybe I’m just biased). ARGGHHH. I hate the anticipation.

i have a gut feeling that idol wants KRIS to win, its like the underdog came around and win it all, i can see the headlines, I also feel if Adam doesn’t win a lot of questions will be asked, people will want to see the results…… the media will make a field day of it, maybe idol isn’t ready for such scrutiny OR are they(its all in the name of ratings and good TV). Adam winning is so predictable this year so why not make it interesting. Danny is another story, American idol will look like a joke to people around the world if he wins and as an international fan i wouldn’t care for the show anymore, to me personally Adam Lambert is the best idol I’ve seen in all season, he’s got that “it” factor and he would sell more records worldwide than Kris or Danny, if idol is interested in making money they would let Adam take the crown, but I am keeping my fingers cross here and not feeling too good about tonight show, i will watch though and hope Adam blows the roof off that place like he always do…..

I’m starting to think One and Wicked Game *are* both of Adam’s songs for tonight…since both came straight out of his mouth…maybe he accidentally read his personal pick outloud first and then had to read Simon’s pick too for the camera.

Have you guys seen Travis’ version of Hit Me Baby One More Time? Fran Healy’s the lead singer, and it’s a really interesting version. Kris could rock that with just an acoustic guitar.

JMO but I’d love to see Adam singing 2 relatively subdued songs that showcase his beautiful voice without the camp and the rebel yelling. IMO he’s the runaway top talent this year and the only interesting one all season but I can only take him in small doses because of his OTTness. Even on If I Can’t Have You I loved the beginning but didn’t like the way he got all dramatic later in the song.

I also like Kris. In fact it’s more likely that I’d be a post-competition album from Kris than Adam even though I find Adam to be more talented. I’m excited to see what Kris has chosen for himself but I’ll be muting the judge comments.

This is the 3rd or 4th season in a row where I’m not invested in the outcome of the competition. But I’d LOL hard if Danny didn’t make the finale (which of course he will because the producers and judges will be sending a bullet train Kris’s way).

I don’t know about you but Kris reminds me of Rob Thomas / Matchbox Twenty. I would love to hear him sing something of theirs.

I’m not really liking the choice of One for Adam. Although the Mary J. Blige/Bono duet is at least more interesting than the original Bono version.

You’re right, but I think they picked their personal choice songs before they knew what the judges would pick for them. Ideally the judge would consider the personal choice that got cleared and balance their judge’s pick against that, but it *is* Simon we are talking about here, lol.

Adam will do both justice – presuming he is going with both.

Eh, I think WG is a ballad. It’s definately a different kind of ballad than the ones we normally hear one Idol. More sexy, less “HOW DO I GET YOU ALOOOOOOOOONE!”

At lest one judge was actually quite hard on Taylor and producers did nothing to help or promote him.

If my recollection is correct: After Taylor’s audition, Simon actually didn’t want him on the show and voted against him. I seemed to recall him say something about how could anyone be an Idol with grey hair. And he constantly talked about how there were hundreds of people singing in bars that were better than Taylor. Paula never is critical. And I can’t remember what Randy did or said.

I’m still snacking on the fireballs (I told you they last forever) have a stack of marshmallow treats and tonight (just so I can make it through watching Gokeyness) am about to make a pitcher of fresh frozen marguritas ( and no that isn’t an oxymoron). I’ve figured out how to redial on my cell phone so I don’t need to stay sober….just long enough to program Adams numbers (wonder if they are going to have 3 lines each since they sing only 2 songs).

Some random thoughts: Of course Danny is going to sing something that has been sung on Idol before. The guy has zero knowledge of music (and zero taste..but that’s for another thread) so he just goes eeny meeny miney moe on the official Idol list and picks a song. Besides, whatever he does it’s kareoke anyway so he might as well mimic a past idol…since he apparently doesn’t know how to use a computer and visit you tube for some more with-it picks. Not having a computer is probably a good thing though since he can’t watch Michael and Kirsten!!

Essentially, Simon praised Taylor whenever he sang a slower song (You Are So Beautiful/ Something/ Trouble/ In the Ghetto/ Levon/ You Send Me/ Living for the City) and didn’t care for his faster numbers, which were highly popular with the audience (Play That Funky Music/ Crazy Little Thing Called Love/Jailhouse Rock). I get the impression Simon does the same to an extent w/ Adam.

People always go on about Taylor being all crazy weird on the show but they forget how many subdued performances he did. I also read that Gokey’s wife was a big Taylor fan, so that might be a consideration of his pick. He’ll probably do it fine, but not outstanding.

One is such a powerful song. If anyone can duplicate the emotion and the crazy profoundness of this song, its Adam. Im getting goose bumps just thinking of the possibilities here.

If my recollection is correct: After Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s audition, Simon actually didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want him on the show and voted against him. I seemed to recall him say something about how could anyone be an Idol with grey hair. And he constantly talked about how there were hundreds of people singing in bars that were better than Taylor. Paula never is critical. And I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember what Randy did or said.

Well, even at Taylor’s audition Simon basically conceded that he had a good voice, saying, “it’s not just about the voice.”

Basically he thought that Taylor did not have the image to be the American Idol.

There were several times during the season that he complemented Taylor’s voice….”underneath all the barminess(sp?), you really can sing.”

He seemed to like Taylor pretty good on the ballads but nothing with a faster pace.

I think they picked their personal choice songs before they knew what the judges would pick for them. Ideally the judge would consider the personal choice that got cleared and balance their judgeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pick against that,

they don’t do that. The judges pick independent of anything else. when there was three songs, the producers did that too. Last year, David A picked a ballad for himself. then he got a ballad from the judges and another, even worse, ballad from the producers and so David had to scramble for an uptempo song. I’m sure that the contestants picked for themselves but were prepared to go to a second choice if their first choice was too similar to the song they drew from the judges.

I don’t dig Adam doing HIM’s version of Wicked Game, ‘cos I pretty much hear only loud guitars while the lead singer follows the same melody as Chris Issak. YMMV. IMO, Chris Issak’s stripped down version would allow Adam to show more angst, like he did for TracksOMT and Mad World, which is indeed more popular with the voters. Simon called it right on this one, tho’ TPTB must be fuming over Paula’s choice for Danny.

One by U2? Dunno how he’s gonna do it, but I’m sure he’d handle it well.

Hey Adam fans, watch out. Since Simon decided to be a total dick, he has the Kris fans in an uproar over his interview and they are going to be out voting in masses. Not all phones allow this (eg the iphone will take out duplicate text destinations), and even if yours does, it is almost certainly a waste of time to set it up because I would bet that the network strips the duplicates. It is just a natural optimization for them to strip duplicate destinations before sending, so no matter how many times a number appears in the destination, the recipient only gets one. (Otherwise people could trivially do denial-of-service attacks against someone they didn’t like by mass-texting them 5 billion copies.)

If anyone wanted to, they could test this by trying to multi-text a friend on the AT&T network to see; I would be curious to know for sure. But just from a technical point of view, I would be very surprised if the friend did end up getting duplicate texts instead of just one.

If it doesn’t take you much time to multi-text, I suppose it might be worth a shot, but much more likely you will get more votes in if you just stick to texting one at a time as fast as you can.

Meh @ Adam. I really think the screaming is dumb (Sorry for being harsh, but I hate it. Bad.) Hopefully he didn’t scream it, personally I find his ballads and laid back performances a billion times better than his regular ones, but he’s only done 2.5. The .5 comes from If I Can’t Have You where he did the scream made the whole performance seem fake, but otherwise decent. But piano on stage? Hopefully it’s Mad World-esque. I don’t know the song.

Danny should just go. I was on his train until last week. That was awful. Hearing the song he sings this week, yuck. Bad choice, Paula. Now if you chose a BALLAD… Well, I wouldn’t really like that since it might give Kris less of a chance to make it in the finale.

I’ve been a Kris fan since Top 11. I did think his two earlier performances were good, and White Chocolate was just awesome, but I honestly didn’t really know him (You know, early on, when you have your first favorites, then they change? Mine were Lil and Danny, and we know how both of them went).

I’ll be voting nonstop for Kris, because I don’t care which of the other two is in the finale. Not really, anyway, although Adam would be the better choice.

I’m not too worried about Kris forgetting the words. I don’t think he’ll be nervous by the real performance. And if he was VERY good…. that’s good.

Yeah, I know some of them and more if I hear them, and I know Apologize from last year’s finale. I just don’t really care enough this year (other than the desire for Danny to put us out of his misery) to go find them. So bring them on. I will like them or not. This is going to be great. I’ve never been this excited to watch an episode of American Idol. Most of the finalists have solid fanbases by now where that doesn’t matter but those casual voters could still make the difference in a close race.

The only time he’s really gotten into trouble was after “Feeling Good,” which could have either been voter complacency or him being “too Broadway.” I don’t think there’s any way “Cryin’” is going to be considered Broadway. Yep. I’m more and more thinking that this way of thinking may be one cornerstone of the Kris-Adam friendship. I wonder if they’ll end up working together? It’s not an obvious musical fit, but I could see it being an unobvious one – producing or writing for each other, for example.

It will be very interesting to hear if the judges can still pimp Gokey tonight. But then, it’s a singing contest, not a thinking contest.

Adams pick makes a lot of sense – Heartless is great and all but Adams pic is much more well known by viewers over the age of 30. I think it was strategic – go for a song that will cover more bases and show how its done.

I read “Cryin” and was kind of hoping it was the Roy Orbison tune, just because I imagine Adam could do all kinds of unearthly things to that song. He’ll rock the Aerosmith tune though.

Maybe you haven’t followed it as closely as you thought; Giant Dog covered Wicked Games used in the 2007 (I think) season Nip/Tuck commercial.

I’m sad Adam didn’t sing Wicked Games. :( I’m sure he will be fantastic no matter what he sings.

I don’t like Aerosmith”s “cryin’”-Kris made a much better choice. I think Kris might be the big star tonight…but I pray Adam makes it through. I was hoping Adam would pick “Back in the saddle again” if he picked Aerosmith.

Yeah.. I think they are going to praise Kris.
But I still think he can be in the finale. I just hope Adam fans vote because there’s always a tendency to think he is safe and that got him in the bottom two.

Maybe it will be a Danny/Adam finale but I just don’t see how 19 would be interested in promoting and marketing Danny as the show’s runnerup. He is not current and he doesn’t fits a young market.
The only thing I know is that Adam will win.

Can I send multiple text votes for Adam at once – in other words, can I put his number in as the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Toà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  address more than once on the same text? It seems like a great way to multiple vote, but I want to make sure they would count.

I was really looking forward to the show tonight, but after Simon’s comments clearly indicating no matter how good Kris is tonight he isn’t going to get any positive comments from the judges who are aiming for a Danny Adam final. That just isn’t fun to watch. I will watch and I will vote nonstop the entire time for my favorite, Kris Allen, but it certainly takes some of the joy out of it having Simon already call the final two and the winner in back to back interviews. I must hope Kris knocks their socks off tonight and makes him eat his words like he had to do last year when David Cook won the whole thing. Adam should and will win, but Kris has as much right to be in the final as Danny. From where I sit, more right. He is more consistent, his voice is more melodic and nice to listen to, and he has a much better connection with the lyrics than Danny.

Although it’s delicious that Adam is doing Cryin’ after Gokey crapped all over Aerosmith last week, we know that Adam requested an Aerosmith song way back at the beginning and he’s been playing this whole thing like a chess match, so I’m sure it’s just a coincidence.

Plus, he’s probably too much of a sweetheart for a dick move like that.

Looks like Kris sandwiched between Danny and Adam once again. I am really not liking the show this year. Love Kris’s music though. I really do enjoy his downloads and no matter where he places in this competition I hope he will geet a recording contract. As Randy said Kris is the one who we know who he is as a recording artist and I love it.

This cracks me up, but I’m on the same page. Just this week saw a clip of him wearing a long jacket (no short skirt, though) during Hollywood week – that was a cool look.

I read à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Cryinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  and was kind of hoping it was the Roy Orbison tune, just because I imagine Adam could do all kinds of unearthly things to that song.

Now that’s a song he could make his filthy bitch. But I don’t think it’s a good one for him to do, certainly not in competition. I love his falsetto, but there’s something about showing up Orbison on that song that would rub me the wrong way. And that attitude (ie treating performances as sacrosanct) is not at all how I usually roll. Better to take a page from Kris’ book: do your thing on a song that doesn’t sound like it wants your thing. Until you do it.

Re: Adam’s rhinestone t-shirt – Maybe it’s the sparkly Bowie shirt from the NYE Upright Cabaret appearance?? If it is, it’s not really OTT at all, just cool.

And OMG, “Cryin’”!!! I remember seeing that video for the first time, featuring Alicia Silverstone. He’s going to rock this song like there’s no tomorrow (particularly if he delivers it like his Upright Cabaret performances, or a reasonable facsimile). Can’t wait can’t wait can’t wait!! No worries. As a worship leader, Kris is probably used to breaking/changing strings all the time. Plus, he had all of 45 minutes to change it. That’s more than enough time, assuming he had a set of strings already on hand. :)

He kept on singing – did smile when the fake judge praised him for finishing the song. The whole rehearsal I felt like he was very focused – at least I hope it was focus – not alot of levity from him. To me, the piano restart was more of an issue. He worked through that too…again, not really laughing as Ryan tried to make it a bit lighter scene (Ryan was talking to the audience, not Kris – he was funny, but Kris stayed quite focused.)

I can’t wait for this season end. Then I will never have to read the words “Adam” and “pimp spot” in the same sentence again.

Sorry, I’m of the mind that the pimp spot should a) be reserved for a performance that will likely not suck (imagine going out on Danny’s “Dream On” or Meagan Joy’s “For Once in My Life”, etc.) and b) IT DOESN’T MATTER when there are this few people left.

Jocelin, thank you for reminding me, I keep forgetting the stupid 90 second thing. Though it does appear others have covered the song so Mr. Isaak is not averse to it but perhaps not in the context of Idol if it was even pursued as an option.

You can’t do justice to most songs frankly in 90 seconds. If they are not doing three songs as they did in the past why not let the finalists sing a full song or at least 3 minutes.

There were fake judges prasing Kris?

It is interesting reading the Adam fan comments. The guy is picked to win by absolutely everyone under the sun including the judges, particularly Simon whose opinions matter more than the others. He is ahead on every poll by miles. He has been hyped and pimped to death on the show. He has been hyped and pimped to death in the media. I don’t remember a single year when one of the contestants had a front page story in a tabloid the final three week completely disregarding the other two finalists. He would have to completely blow something in order not to win this competition by a landslide no matter who he faces in the final. He’s a consummate performer and is not going to blow anything. He is loving the attention and the opportunity. He is going to be amazing tonight and coast into the finals. I think he will coast into the win. Adam voters are loyal. They are not gong to be complacent.

I guess I can understand all of the worry. Last year I was a basket case worrying about David Cook. But last year Simon was vocal in his predictions that David Archuleta would win so I thought David Cook was winning from an underdog position when in fact he had been ahead of Archie in the voting most weeks after Top 8. This year, Dialidol has not been a good predictor. I think perhaps because the voting has been pretty close, but they seem to get more accurate when it gets down to two or three contestants.

I am very worried for Kris because no matter how beautifully he sings Randy is going to call it pitchy. Kara will say for me it wasn’t your best. Paula will say he is an artist who has put his stamp on everything he sings, but no one will care what Paula says. Simon will proclaim it not good enough and that he should pack his bags and then ask why he isn’t more confident. All we can do is vote, vote, vote, and hope that we can prove them wrong and mess up their plan for the final two.

and performance order does mattter…if it didnt, then they wouldnt be flipping a coin during the finale. you always want to perform last so that the judges can size you up and say ” best of the evening, without hesitation”….actually they are doing kris a favor bc we all know NOBODY on that panel will ever utter those words.

I love both of the choices for Adam and Kris. I think Cryin is one of Aerosmith’s best songs and a really good choice for Adam. I can already picture what Adam will do with One…. should be good. I must say, Adam is definitely one of the boldest performers I’ve seen on the Idol stage, but he generally picks songs that I would expect him to perform at this point. As understated as he is, Kris has surprised me the most with his song choices and arrangements. If he makes it to the finals (with Adam, of course), I just might watch a full Idol episode for the first time this year. Danny’s song choices will be the perfect bathroom break.

Thanks, MJ – awesome work (and special thanks to your helpers!). Me – I’m hoping for an Adam/Kris finale (especially with Allison gone). Nothing really bad to say about Danny – he just hasn’t connected with me – not like Adam. Adam! Boy. Even our National Anthem sounds fabulous when that man sings it. It’s not just his voice – it’s the feeling behind the words. When he sang ‘our flag was still there’ – I got goosebumps. Simply brilliant.

And I was looking forward to ‘Wicked Games’ as well (just think of Adam’s voice sliding over those luscious notes) – but maybe heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll do that for the finale. Whatever. from the spoilers i have read on this site…they have always been spot on. rat pack week, i did see comments that danny was actually pretty good. rock week, allison and adam got props….thus if you now see moles stating kris and adam were good…well, maybe it is because they are freakin good. its not that hard to imagine kris making a moment w. heartless and adam slaying crying. go boys!

I’m having trouble with MJs tonight and can’t get to the performance thread, so am posting here. How nice they get special permission from U2 for an Adam song. I thought Kris sounded great. I agree with Tony above, but couldn’t say it as elegantly.

Another Eh performance from Adam for me. So shoot me. I just don’t care for him. Great voice. Not my style.

As expected, the judges didn’t have anything good to say about Kris, well except for Randy who ws primarily congratulating himself on song choice.

I’m a huge Adam fan, but didn’t care for this one (no pun intended). I suspect the song got cleared very late and he didn’t have much time to spend on it. But DAnny and kris were also meh…

Oh dear. Danny sounds beautiful in some places and then is a bit pitchy in others. Bet the judges don’t call him on it though. They really want him in the finals.

The song choice is not Kris’s fault. I didn’t like the choice of Apologize either, but he sang it well.

Still can’t get on the current thread here on MJs. I’m voting though and glad to hear busy signals for Kris. Is anyone else having this problem tonight with MJs?
