He was an incredible artist, an incredible person and the world is much poorer for the loss of his ongoing talent. And he would have looooooooved Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s take on his classic hit, and he would have laughed his ass off at the way Adam consistently puts himself RIGHT IN YOUR FACE. He did that. He did that all the time. It paid off for him, and I hope it does for Adam.

Thank you, Cat. I appreciate the details you shared about Johnny Cash. In many ways, he was a rebel. This seems to be a bit of what Adam attempts when performing. Your insight helped.

Whew! Lots of debate on Danny and Adam recently.

I have heard all of the top 13. I like rocker strong voices, so of course I love Allison. Other that that, I don't hear any great voices. Adam has a powerful voice, but its tone isn't pleasant to me.

I liked Adam the best this week. I thought it was interesting that Paula said that it sounded like Kashmir, because when he was performing, I was thinking that it sounded similar to a Led Zepplin song.

When Paula is lucid and focused she actually gives some really good critiques and can be very musically inclined, either with her suggestions or her observations. Many of her valid points get lost in her rather flowery and clumsy style of speaking. It's too bad because she's much more valuable on that panel than Randy Jackson.

I hope that tolerance is the theme and that the playing field is equal. MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s is the most tolerant, but there are some CRAZY things being said about Adam today. People, EW, everywhere. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sinful. And not in a good way! My soap box is securely stored and I will concede that MJs is a most tolerable environment. I truly, truly hope so.

You are really really close to being put into moderation. READ MY GUIDELINES BEFORE YOU POST HERE AGAIN.

If you can't handle criticisms of your favorite, you need to stop reading these threads NOW.

OK, I'm skimming through some of these messages and it appears I need to post some reminders.

1. Post your opinions on American Idol and the subject of this post. Posting opinions on your fellow posters opinions is OFF TOPIC

2. Knock off the generalizations please. The "Danny fans must like him because...." and the Adam haterz don't like him because..." posts are ridiculous. Don't ascribe motives to your fellow posters. It's rude, and again TOTALLY OFF TOPIC.

3. Meta remarks like "gee I'm just sittin here observing all the posts in this thread, and you all seem to be....blah blah blah..." Also OFF TOPIC. And arrogant. Stop it.

4. It's really simple. Keep your remarks focused on the subject of the thread and OFF YOUR FELLOW POSTERS. If you don't like reading negative opinions on your favorite. Stop reading the thread.

Folks who keep ignoring the guidelines EVENTUALLY GET BANNED.

Kara says, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very interesting. All a little strange. But I kinda liked it. It left me confused and happy.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Not coincidentally that was Kara D's exact reaction to riding a horse bareback at her equestrian summer camp between seventh and eighth grades. :devil_tb:

I love the smooth, soulful sound of Anoop. Everything about his performance of "Always on my Mind" is perfect. I thought that was exactly the right kind of performance he needed to do last night. IMO, Anoop is the best by a mile. I look forward to his performance every week. It's exciting to see him reveal his talent to millions of people & see their reaction. I already knew he had the talent, but now he's starting to show everyone his amazing vocals, and I'm thrilled to watch him reveal more and more each week.

I purchased the video of Anoop's "Always on my Mind" and I pre-ordered the single on iTunes. WOW, his voice is amazing & I love the video.

I was bored at work so I ran a quick informal experiment. I went to People.com and tallied up all the comments that mentioned Adam. Here's what I found:

Out of 240 comments that were displayed:

89 were positive towards Adam
90 were negative

So..it looks like we're 50/50 on him. But, you can't dispute the fact that almost 75% of the comments were about him..and fiercely opinionated may I add.

The boy's got buzz, and that's exactly what AI needs right now as their ratings are hurting. He's not going anywhere for a while, polarizing or not.

This season of AI is not only entertaining me...but it is teaching me (a very difficult concept for me) tolerance, patience, introspection, and verbal expression because of this web site. Thanks, MJ. I am learning (slowly) how to express myself in the terms of opinions not facts. Sometimes, as many of us do, I take liberties and will embellish the truth to get my point across, but I hope that these liberties are viewed as sarcasm or irony, not FACT.

MJ is amazing at keeping me from baiting and jumping to the bait. We all have opinions, and those opinions have value. I may not agree with them but I am learning how to debate the issues using facts, instead of immediately dissing anyone who doesn't think the way I do. And then it is really nice when someone posts a comment that totally expresses the way I feel and gives me validation.

This year is very polarizing....but it is fun and enjoyable, at least to me.

You know, amid all this discussion about Adam and HIS sexuality, I cannot get over how Kara keeps wanting Alexis to slut herself up.

What, is this 1962?

Kara should be ashamed of herself.

I guess I'll weigh in on this "respect for country music" issue. Personally, and this applies to ALL music genres, whether on Idol or just in the general music scene, I don't see any point to singing a song the same way as the original unless you're a cover band or unless you can do a better job than the original artist. Everyone should strive for his/her own interpretation, which can vary from very similar to completely different. Which isn't to say that re-interpretations are always a good thing. However, most copycat performances tend to be judged "karaoke" for good reason.

* Here are my rankings, taking into account vocal quality, stage presence and song choice.

01 Anoop Desai - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Were Always On My Mindà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Willie Nelson) 26.5/30 (vocals - 9, stage presence - 8.5, song choice - 9) - Now THIS is the Anoop that I've come to admire from the UNC Clef Hangers! What's more, I know he can do even better.

02 Adam Lambert - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ring Of Fireà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Johnny Cash) 25.5/30 (vocals - 9, stage presence - 8.5, song choice - 8) - A virtuoso performance with some incredible vocal control!

03 Kris Allen - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“To Make You Feel My Loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Garth Brooks) 24.5/30 (vocals - 8.5, stage presence - 8, song choice - 8) - Wonderful simple heartfelt performance with some very nice vocals.

04 Matt Giraud - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“So Smallà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Carrie Underwood) 23/30 (vocals - 8, stage presence - 8, song choice - 7) - I guess I don't really "get" country music cuz I personally think this popular Carrie song, though it has some deep lyrics, is fairly melody-challenged; however, Matt sang it really well with lots of emotion.

05 Allison Iraheta - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Blame It On Your Heartà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Patty Loveless) 22.5/30 (vocals - 8.5, stage presence - 9, song choice - 5) - Great vocals but wrong song to showcase them.

06 Scott MacIntyre - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Wild Angelsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Martina McBride) 21/30 (vocals - 7, stage presence - 7, song choice - 7) - Very pleasant rendition but I agree with those who think he's delivering the same performance each time out.

07 Megan Joy Corkrey - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Walking After Midnightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Patsy Cline) 19.5/30 (vocals - 6.5, stage presence - 6, song choice - 7) - Amazingly, she made the most of her limited vocal range. It wasn't terrible.

08 Alexis Grace - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Joleneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Dolly Parton) 19/30 (vocals - 7, stage presence - 6, song choice - 6) - Very very pale imitation of the original - what one would term "karaoke".

09 Lil Rounds - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Independence Dayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Martina McBride) 18.5/30 (vocals - 7.5, stage presence - 6, song choice - 5) - I didn't particularly care for the song when it was sung by Martina McBride. I liked it less when Carrie sang it, and even less now. A very unconvincing performance. She should have tried an R&B version instead, or better yet, picked a different song.

10 Danny Gokey - à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Jesus Take The Wheelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Carrie Underwood) 18/30 (vocals - 6.5, stage presence - 7, song choice - 4.5) - Another popular Carrie song for which I've never cared - and Danny sang it quite poorly here. Tuneless intro, shouting through the second half, lots of missed notes and pitch issues.

11 Michael Sarver -à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Goinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Down Til The Sun Comes Upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Garth Brooks) 17.5/30 (vocals - 6.5, stage presence - 7, song choice - 4) - Really dumb song choice which also means he can't showcase any vocal range. And if you're going to talk back, make sure your comments are witty at least - "country music is supposed to be fun"? Bleh!

I guess I’ll weigh in on this “respect for country music” issue. Personally, and this applies to ALL music genres, whether on Idol or just in the general music scene, I don’t see any point to singing a song the same way as the original unless you’re a cover band or unless you can do a better job than the original artist. Everyone should strive for his/her own interpretation, which can vary from very similar to completely different. Which isn’t to say that re-interpretations are always a good thing. However, most copycat performances tend to be judged “karaoke” for good reason.

* Here are my rankings, taking into account vocal quality, stage presence and song choice.

01 Anoop Desai – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Were Always On My Mindà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Willie Nelson) 26.5/30 (vocals – 9, stage presence – 8.5, song choice – 9) – Now THIS is the Anoop that I’ve come to admire from the UNC Clef Hangers! What’s more, I know he can do even better.

02 Adam Lambert – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ring Of Fireà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Johnny Cash) 25.5/30 (vocals – 9, stage presence – 8.5, song choice – – A virtuoso performance with some incredible vocal control!

03 Kris Allen – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“To Make You Feel My Loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Garth Brooks) 24.5/30 (vocals – 8.5, stage presence – 8, song choice – – Wonderful simple heartfelt performance with some very nice vocals.

04 Matt Giraud – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“So Smallà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Carrie Underwood) 23/30 (vocals – 8, stage presence – 8, song choice – 7) – I guess I don’t really “get” country music cuz I personally think this popular Carrie song, though it has some deep lyrics, is fairly melody-challenged; however, Matt sang it really well with lots of emotion.
