When you talk about fan bases you have to realize that you need exposure to accumulate one. Matt had that luxury but many of the other contestants, like Kris Allen, did not.

So who goes home? The guy who gave a good performance last night but hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been seen before? Or the guy who bombed last night but has been good in the past? (That was my Tyra Banks/ANTM impression).

Which only adds to my comment that just because someone like Matt goes through above someone who had a better performance doesn’t mean that people who liked the other person “just didn’t vote,” it simply means that more people voted for Matt. And since he did bomb, I can’t imagine that many of those people voting for him were voting on last night’s performance alone.

Hahaha! I love it! Looks like a lot of people share my view: I’ll be a lot more likely to tune in if Nick is on the program.

And FWIW, I was not a fan of Sanjaya. Nick’s shtick is very intentional, and very well done. He modifies songs to suit the situation, he works in references to other contestants, judges, the show, people in the audience, whoever (creative guy!), and he does his thing, despite Simon’s carping. Oh, and in addition to the funny stuff, he was also the 3rd best singer last night. (Might have been #1 if he’d just sung it straight.)

AI would be crazy to let him go.

Adam Lambert is visually captivating. So purdy and interesting. Charismatic. He has great range, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like the tone to his voice. He is the kind of artist that is great live, and on TV, but radioà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦yikes. Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t just listen to that voice.

I was listening to him on the radio (our local Fox station is also on the radio) and I FLOVED Adam’s voice last night. I was dancing in the car! I hadn’t been able to listen to everyone so I wasn’t sure where he stacked up in the competition – but I knew he must be on of the top 3 of the evening.

I know that people seem to dislike David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name being brought up,

I voted for Matt G and Jessie last night. I liked him enough from Hollywood to want him through. I also don’t think any of the guys were all that so didn’t feel compelled to vote for anyone else. He may not be my favorite guy but I do like him and think he should be in the top 12 even with a suspect song choice.

Dr. Tracey, I know what you mean about Jesseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s personality, last night she seeemed almost too confident, poised, and almost too old for her age. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a good or bad thing. I just noticed it.

What I picked up on with her, and liked a great deal, was her obvious understanding of music, what works for her, and who she is as an artist. I think she knows herself and, unlike the other contestants, she values SPECIFIC feedback rather than bland generalities. I was thrilled that she forced Randy out of his complacent cliche mode and insisted, politely, on hearing specifically what he’d like to see her do. I did see it as confident and I appreciated it, much like I appreciate Adam’s confidence. They are much less likely to be rattled or lunge irratically at various musical identities each week. From the looks of Dialidol, it appears her song choice and her confidence post-song may have helped her with viewers.

Thats just one womanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s opinion and I may be just a seasoned Idol watcher but i say you better show me something pretty spectacular at this stage or at least something different.

I am not expecting a “Win-worthy” performance in the semi-finals. Otherwise, if they peak now, where are they going to go in the finals?

I’m a “seasoned Idol watcher,” too, as I’ve been watching and voting since the very first season. But as I stated before, a good part of the appeal of this show, for me, is watching the contestants grow. I base each season’s contestants on their own season. I’m not going to compare someone who has never performed on Idol before to a previous Idol Finale performance. That’s really not fair, in my opinion, because those people who gave those Finale caliber performances had been performing on the Idol stage for weeks by that point.

That reminds me of season one, actually. Kelly Clarkson. I remember seeing her semi-finals performance of “R.E.S.P.E.C.T.” and telling my friend that she was going to win. My friend was like “Nahhh, she wasn’t that good.” True, that ended up not being one of Kelly’s best performances (especially compared to the likes of “Natural Woman,” “Stuff Like That There,” “Without You,” etc). But thank God she got through to the finals because we see all that we would have missed otherwise.

But yes, I agree that something that stands out in the semis is good. And, in my opinion, there were at least three decent performances last night that should get those people through to the finals. Or were at least to make me want to see more of them.

But dreamr, if that were to happen which it wont then the only people to blame are those who didnt bother to pick up the damn phone and vote.

Ehhhh, I agree somewhat. As nice as it would be to say that things like that only happen because people don’t vote, sometimes, other fanbases just happen to vote more.

Like if Matt makes it through based on all of his Hollywood footage rather than his bomb of a performance last night. That wouldn’t mean that everyone who enjoyed Jesse or Mishavonna or one of the others who probably won’t make it through didn’t get off of their asses and vote. It simply means that Matt’s fanbase voted more. Especially since he did bomb. There’s nothing that rouses a fanbase more than their favorite bombing or getting bad comments.

But dreamr, if that were to happen which it wont then the only people to blame are those who didnt bother to pick up the damn phone and vote. Afterall, this part is in our hands and those fans chose to sit on their asses and say gee, he/she was good and I hope they get through while I voted my ass off for Nick who entertained me enough that I wasted 2 hours doing what Idol encourages us to do…I voted.
