With little screen time under his belt, and a less-than-stellar performance of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” Wednesday night, Kris Allen advances to the Top 12 in an upset, along with front-runners Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert.

Could it be the power of Cowell? “I think you made an effort, I think you look good, I think the chicks are going to love you, I was actually quite proud of you tonight, and you may have put yourself back in the running here,” said Simon after Kris’s uneven performance Wednesday night.

At least Dial Idol was off this week, and Matt Giraud did not advance on the back of week 2′s worst performance.   Regardless, Matt does have fans willing to vote for him.   Expect to see him in next week’s wildcard, where he still stands a good chance to be hand-picked by the judges for the Top 12.

Although his was one of the better male performances this week (that’s not saying much), there were several girls–Mishavonna Henson, Megan Joy Corkrey and particularly Jesse Langseth who outsang him and should have moved on instead.

Once Kris advanced into the Top 12, the suspense was over.   Adam Lambert and Nick Mitchell were paired up at the end of the show, similar to the Danny Gokey/Tatiana Del Toro let’s-pair-up-the-joke-with-the obvious-front runner deal from last week.   Gee, I wonder who is going to move on? Zz.   Although, unlike last week, the last two standing had the most entertaining (and outrageous) performances the night before.

And what’s with the recycling of old footage?   A smelly old video retrospective that aired during the auditions a few weeks ago popped up for no good reason.   It’s official–TPTB are producing Idol on the cheap this year.

In a nice respite from the tedium, Brooke White appeared to sing her brand-new single, “Hold Up My Heart”.   Very nice Brooke!

More re-cap after the JUMP…

Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver sit on the stools of safety waiting for some company…

After the obligatory chat with the judges and “Idol journey” recap, the kids perform this week’s group number–Ne-Yo’s “Closer.”   Nick Mitchell appears as himself.   Damn, I was hoping for some pointy pose action from Normund Gentle.   Too much bland, not enough awful this week – VIDEO

Ryan Seacrest announces that an “unseen audition” would be hidden in the commercials…some chick warbling “The Shoop Shoop Song” in a mediocre fashion? Not worth missing a snack break.

After, it’s time for a video recap of the kid’s performances from the night before.   Shots of Normund Gentle crying and clutching the American Idol logo never get old.

Next, Ryan chats with the kids. He asks Matt Breitzke if the judges were too hard on him, and he diplomatically says, “At this stage of the game we’re all so new, we all have a lot to learn.” The diplomacy didn’t last, “One of your opening lines Simon…it’s too late for advice…I don’t know in my lifetime where it’s going to be too late for advice.” Word’s from a contestant who knows he’s toast.   Jesse Langseth insists she picked the right song.   Jeanine Vailes admits that less could have been more last night.

After the lights dim, Ryan calls Allison down to the stage, does her recap and moves her to the side of the stage.   Jesse Langseth is next, followed by Matt Breitzke. Randy says he thinks one of the girls will move on to the Top 12, but hopes it’s Allison. And it is.

Allison Iraheta is the first to move on to the Top 12. In a daze, Allison begins to head back to her seat. Ryan calls her back to reprise “Alone”. – VIDEO

Megan Corkrey and Kris Allen take center stage. Kris says he’s “freaking nervous,” and has “no idea” if he made the Top 12. Matt Giraud and Jeanine Vailes are called to center stage next. Matt hopes he gets the chance to show the judges what he can do.   Jeanine says she’s scared.   Ryan says only one of the 4 goes into the Top 12.

Paula, with Simon egging her on in the background (“Just answer the question,” he keeps repeating) waffles on who she thinks will advance. “Simon, you are a gnat,” she says.

Ryan tells Jeanine the bad news first. Matt is eliminated next.   Kara explains that she gave Kris a hard time because he’s so good. “Oh she’s just rambling on,” says Simon, in a rude mood tonight.   She tells Megan she’s really unique, and with the right song, could be a big recording artist.

And the person going through to the Top 12 is Kris Allen!   Looking absolutely shocked and deleriously happy, he sings “Man in the Mirror.”   And it’s still the wrong song. – VIDEO

After the break, the producers break out a smelly old clip already aired during the auditions.   The seven-season retrospective makes no sense within the context of the show, and proves (along with the hidden band and crappy directing) that Idol is totally operating on the cheap this year.

Brooke White is in the house! She’s sitting behind the piano, ready to perform her new single “Hold Up My Heart.” “It’s a trip to be back here,” says Brooke. She points to the kids and says, “I’m really glad to be done with this part, to be honest…you guys you did great, keep going and stay true to yourselves…don’t google your name!” It’s nice to see an Idol sitting behind an instrument. She looks great, she sounds great. – VIDEO

After the break, Mishavonna Henson,   Kai Kalama,   Adam Lambert, Nick Mitchell   and Jasmine Murray are asked to take the stage. Mishavonna, Kai and Jasmine are dispatched with quickly (Ryan stops at Nick as he walks down the line, but then walks right on by to get to Jasmine Murray, who insists she feels confident) – VIDEO

Nick Mitchell and Adam Lambert, are left, predictably. “So that leaves us with these three–Nick, Normund and Adam,” says Ryan.   Nick looks around for his alter-ego but does not find him.   Simon says he prayed for 5 or 6 hours non-stop the night before. “I’m hoping me and God has a good relationship,” he says, before Ryan leads us into a break.

And OMG surprise, surprise. Ryan eliminated Nick–Adam Lambert is in the Top 12! SHOCK! Not. Adam says he didn’t know what was going to happen, because Nick was hilarious. “I’m really excited, thank you guys so much,” he says before he sings us out.

But before Ryan signs off, Simon mentions the wildcard, “We’re going to bring back a selection of people who we think deserve a second shot…maybe even a couple from tonight.”   – VIDEO

The show ends with next week’s group dance of dorkiness! – VIDEOÂ

Ooh, Closer for the group song? o.O

  • idolbeat

wow – best group song in a long time – they sounded great!

  • yf7184

Closer would be a great song for Anoop if he comes back. Nick was very likable!

  • stelladallas

American Idol can even make Ne-yo sound cheesy. But, I love that song. They actually didn’t do too bad. Some of the boys were getting down…Matt G. and Kris.

  • Trina

I thought Matt and Adam sounded especially great together.

  • Victoria

Closer would be a great song for Anoop if he comes back.

I agree! That would be great!

  • lizland

Kris looks to be about 5 feet tall

  • Victoria

BTW anyone else notice Nick was lipsynching during the group song?

  • widz

    “Unseen audition”??

  • GeminiDolly

    Yay Allison. Shes just 16!

  • meme

So happy that Allison made it through. I split my votes on Allison and Matt G. last night.

  • yf7184

Allison is just as good the second time. She is a lot more interesting than some of the highly pimped male contestants.

  • Dr. Tracey

Glad Allison made it but I thought Jesse was going through too, darn it.

  • bjames

    i hate this format!!! ugh.

  • Victoria

I’m not sold on Allison vocally yet, but I hope she can change my mind.

  • Madcap Jester

    Nooooo, Jesse! -clings-

. . . dammit, does this mean Matt Goatboy got through? NOT COOL, AMERICA. NOT. COOL. Especially considering that you dumped Anoop for ‘I can’t stay in tune for more than three seconds’ Sarver.

    . . . or not. \o/

  • lizland

    Dial Idol was wrong

  • megkat

    Wow

  • Trina

    YAY KRIS!!!

  • Victoria

NOOO! Kris?! He was terrible last night!

Megan better come back for the WC show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

:wallbash_tb: WTF NO JESSE… was is wrong with you America… she is so good and she has great taste on music…

(IÂ ´m not watching today… is CSI night!!!!!)

  • bjames

okay, i don’t hate it as much anymore now that kris made it in. good for him.

  • Dr. Tracey

    OMG!!!!!! Who’da thunk it??

    Shocker.

I’m happy for him, I didn’t think he stood a chance, WOW.

I didn’t make out well in the poll LOL

  • s0x_prisoner

Damn just lost 7 points in the pool! Ugh, I’m always in a love-hate relationship with Dial Idol. But congrats Kris, he deserved to make it.

    Matt G… :( Wildcard please!

  • yf7184

Kris is sooooo cute. I’m sad for Matt G but I noticed he got absolutely ZERO pimpage from the judges last night whereas Simon did his “I hope America votes for you” thingy for Kris. So Simon spoke again.

  • idolbeat

    Allison -yay
    Matt – dam*

  • Hoppy

    WHOA TOTALLY SHOCKED.

(Who scored points on that one in the pool? I didn’t!)

But I’m glad it’s not Matt G. I really liked the guy in Hollywood week, but I he crapped all over the stage last night. If he wants to make it in as a wildcard, he better kick ass. I’m glad his fanbase didn’t put him through this week because he did not deserve it.

I’m actually really pleased for Kris! I think he picked a dud of a song, but he’s got a GREAT voice and is cute as hell. (West Coaster here… woo!)

  • widz

Kris was not good last night..Hmph.
    Go Allison!

  • danceinsidex3

I’m really glad Kris made it. He’s adorable and I love the tone of his voice.

Sad about Matt, but I do think he has a chance with the wildcard.

  • JOJOSIE

Dial Idol wasn’t wrong the only projected winners were Adam and Allison. The rest say they can be anywhere from 2nd to 11th or 12th. I reallly didn’t think Matt was 3rd but then I didn’t think Kris was either.

  • leome

    Dial Idol was wrong

Not so. DI says Allison and Adam are the ones who make it. They don’t give the green light to anyone else, including Matt G. They put him between #3 and #11… so, they’re right.

Once again they leave the obvious one for last… what about suspense?

  • brie200

I’m not sad about Matt G. I liked him in audition rounds, but he sucked last night.

  • dreamr

Yay for Kris! I was really surprised by that. I was expecting it to be Matt. Not that I thought Matt deserved to go through.

Why do they save the obvious locks for last? Last week, it was Danny as the last one and this week, it’s Adam. I mean seriously…do they not think we already know Adam’s in?

  • jnd1221

I’m really glad Kris made it through. He seems like a really nice guy and I like his voice. Plus, he was a bit of an underdog, and I always root for them.

  • idolbeat

My two wildcards now are Anoop and Matt G.

  • http://www.myspace.com/blakelewisfansunite Cindy

Very glad Allison and Kris made it. [:
Loved both of them last night.

And at first, I was really digging the group performance. They all sounded pretty good, until the end. Didn't like the ending that much.

I'm thinking Adam Lambert is the next one in the top 12. :]

  • folk

    kris stinks.

  • hyperren

I think I placed 1 point on Kris in the office pool. If so, yay! That should be 15 points for me. =P

  • ShariG

I’m surprised that Kris made it. I didn’t think he was one of the three best, but I do like him. Glad he is through. Adam is a no brainer, I think. My favorite performance of last night was Allison’s but Adam was second. He is just a little bit too theatrical for me, but he sure can sing.

  • Tess

    Oh the suspense…
    Adam or Nick

  • Jocelin

Kris looks like Archie’s older brother. I think the two girls in the top 12 pawn the boys so far. Didn’t we see this montage before? Must be those budget cuts…

  • ShariG

I like that Wonderful World retrospective. Any David Cook sighting makes me happy.

  • bjames

man, i’ve missed brooke and her craziness. love it.

  • Victoria

    BROOKE! :biggrin_wp:

  • minzhi

Kris through? He’s not bad a singer, but needs to choose a better song. He has potential though.

Allison through! Yay! She is deserving for sure! In a season where they are touting the guys as better ones, it is Allison and Alexis who are the only stand-outs for me so far. But I agree the guys in general are better. They need to stand-out.

  • blissful

This sounds like a replay of last week…the crazy vs. the front runner. It’s a total ratings ploy.

I’m thinking Matt G and Jesse will be the wildcard pics — either the 4th vote getter (or has this criteria been changed?)or judges pick.

  • leome

Oh deja vu… are they leaving Adam and Nick for last?

Will Adam hug Nick? Or will he celebrate first?

  • Niall

Dammit Kris just screwed up my office pool total. Good for him, bad for me.

  • aly

    I’m happy for Kris.

  • Victoria

Oh deja vuà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ are they leaving Adam and Nick for last?

Will Adam hug Nick? Or will he celebrate first?

Haha. Gee, nothing like this has ever happened before.

I’m thinking he will hug him first if he’s heard anything at all about what some people are saying about Danny’s reaction.

  • brie200

I think Megan has a better chance of getting a WC than Jesse, though I like them both.

  • yf7184

Maybe Nick will play the role of Tatiana and have some on-screen fun with it!

  • Dr. Tracey

    Yuck, glad that’s done.

Are they seriously going to leave Nick and Adam to last? I don’t think my heart can take the suspense.

  • aly

    Brooke’s song was boring.

  • houstonrufus

Soooo loved seeing Brooke again. To quote Paula, “I heart” Brooke.

Surprised Kris got through but I always delight in dialidol being wrong, so woot! Guess the girls rallied around the “cute” boy. He was better than Matt last night, so fine with me.

And Jesse officially bugs me. Not sure why. She just bugs me.

  • Victoria

Who wants to bet Nick changes into his Normund costume sometime later in the show? I don’t think he would leave without doing it.

  • SallyS

Very happy Allison and Kris made it. Especially Kris being an underdog and total eyecandy who can sing hehe

  • blissful

Will Adam hug Nick? Or will he celebrate first?

Ha ha. After the tar and feathering of Danny’s response, he’ll cry a river for Nick.

  • SallyS

    and Brooke’s song sucked

  • MaryS-NJ

My daughter is thrilled that Kris made it. I have to say, weird song choice or not, I think he was better than most of the other guys except Adam. Alison deserved it too.

But I’m surprised two girls aren’t going to make it though… especially Jesse. Sigh. Maybe she captivated Paula enough to put her through as a wild card.

I remember what I liked about Brooke White’s voice. Her single is pretty, if a bit bland. But I still like her voice.

  • Victoria

What’s with Kai’s tie? Is it sparkly?

  • houstonrufus

    This is SO lame.

  • dreamr

Well, it comes down to Nick and Adam.

Now, if Nick beats out Adam…that would be entertaining for the uproar it would cause. XD

  • http://airincaol.com coco

    so LAme

  • s0x_prisoner

Omg, why do the producers make this show so unsuspenseful??

  • Victoria

Do TPTB honestly think we’re stupid enough to believe Nick/Normund might actually get through?

They have no faith in us. :dry_tb:

  • risinggeneration

I loved Brooke…but oh how I wished they had her and Micheal Johns on, that would have been awesome. From what I heard the song they did together “Life is Okay” is doing good on itunes.

  • soccerboi

Unsuspensful is right! I think they just wanted to end with Adam singing again

  • leogirl78

They did this last week with Danny and Tatiana. They really must think we’re morons.

  • houstonrufus

Did they hire kids fresh out of high school to produce this show this year? This is WEAK. Why not put kris and matt at the end for the surprise? Ugh.

  • anijsch

But Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m surprised two girls arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t going to make it thoughà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ especially Jesse. Sigh.

I think the problem was that the girls had the votes splitting between them.

  • reeboks1

ah! my idol pool is falling apart! why do i even bother?!?!!

  • Victoria

    YESSS! ADAM!

I knew he was going through but I’m still relieved.

And we get to hear him again!

ETA: Wow, he actually looked nervous… Haha. As if Normund could get more votes.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gundomom CarieB

Only 16 points in the pool. Gah. Oh well, could have been worse.

  • Tony

Dammit. Kris screwed up my pool. I WANTED him to go through, I just didn’t think he would.

  • Dr. Tracey

Oh WOW I fell off my chair with shock when they said Adam had made it LOL

I thought it was nice how he said that he wasn’t sure he’d made it ‘cos Nick was so funny last night and then gave Nick a hug.

  • chewsday

Adam creeps me out so bad. I can hardly look at him. And he makes my ears bleed. I don’t understand this reaction, since I’ve never reacted to an Idol contestant this way before. I know I’m stepping on a lot of toes here, but it’s a genuine, honest reaction. Just ICK!

  • Jolene

This is shaping up to be the worst Top 12 ever. Kris Allen? Seriously? After that performance? Over Jesse Langseth?

I’m already sick of Season 8 and it isn’t even finals yet. The wrong people are getting through, we don’t know the contestants well enough after only one performance to really know what they’re capable of, and the producers seem to have no problem ruining any shred of suspense in favore of OTT pimpage (what other reason is there to save the obvious finalists Danny and Adam for last, if not to give them double the pimp spot?).

    Yuck.

  • snuffles

    YES! ADAM!!!

MJ – Could you post video of the next group of 12 “Dance of Dorkiness”?

  • Victoria

I thought it was nice how he said that he wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sure heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d made it à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹cos Nick was so funny last night and then gave Nick a hug.

Yep. At least no one can accuse him of being like Danny Gokey.

  • risinggeneration

Humm…maybe we are seeing just how much Nigel Lithgoe (spelling?) contributed to Idol.

  • KrazeeK120

They need to stop with the anti-climatic endings. The 2nd half of the show was so boring!

  • miknge

So glad Kris made it through instead of Matt G. I’ll never forgive him for butchering Viva La Vida.

  • snuffles

Oh and Yay Kris! I’m quite pleased with the extra dosage of “pretty”!

  • Madcap Jester

Ahahaha, Adam’s clearly been reading the Idol blogs. Can’t say I’m upset by tonight’s results – I’d personally rather have Jesse than Kris, but both performed well last night.

  • leome

Kris can really turn out into that guy who’s going to make it based on his looks and start upseting people.

Can’t wait for Nate next week! Don’t disappoint me kid!

  • Victoria

Ahahaha, Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clearly been reading the Idol blogs.

    My thoughts exactly!

Hummà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦maybe we are seeing just how much Nigel Lithgoe (spelling?) contributed to Idol.

He never got enough credit. Now everyone’s going to see just how much Idol needs him.

  • yf7184

I am starting suspect that they are over-pimping the obvious ones (danny and adam) on purpose. To get us all mad. I mean, what do they have to end the show with the chosen one again?

  • JOJOSIE

I’m very happy tonight as I like the three that went thru. Adam is my favorite and some say they don’t like his voice alone without seeing him perform. I have gotten so I just listen to him and don’t watch the videos that’s how hooked I am on this guy. It’s hard not to look sometimes as I think he’s gorgeous and very intertaining, did l mention that I am older and live in middle America, so go figure.

  • star

Adam sounded even better tonight! The beginning especially was a huge improvement over last night.

I’m happy with tonight’s results! I’d have preferred Megan over Allison, but I’m pretty sure Megan will get in via wildcard.

  • houstonrufus

Jolene, I was thinking the same thing. At least 4 of those contestants in the top 6 have ALREADY won themselves a spot on the tour. Assuming they are still doing things the same way. And that is based on ONE performance. This system bites.

  • CathyMK

I’m glad to see Kris get another chance. I don’t think he was one of the best last night, but he has a good voice and I’d like to see what else he’ll do. Hopefully a couple of the girls from tonight will be brought back for the wildcard round. I’d like to see Jesse and Mishavonna get more airtime.

  • RemusL

Hah… serves me right for following Dial Idol rather than my own preferences in picking Matt G. rather than Kris Allen in the pool. Then again, I preferred Jesse to Allison so either way, I’d still only be getting 2 of 3 correct.

Nevertheless, I’m quite happy with the results tonight.

  • Victoria

I’m glad Adam got through, and Allison was okay… I wish she had sung a different song, though. I’m not crazy about anyway singing “Alone” except Heart and mybe Carrie Underwood.

I hope Megan can pull it together for the WC show. I would have rather seen her get through tonight instead of Kris.

  • St.Lucia

Aww. Brooke made me happy. Even though her song was about as boring as elevator music.

Ohhh Adam. I had no doubt you’d be there tonight, but I didn’t expect I’d see the same song performed as if I had never heard you sing it before.

I thought I loved his last night version but then he did THAT tonight and I can’t decided which one I want to watch more!

    He’s utterly amazing.

I wish Jesse would have almost gotten in over Allison I was slightly pulling for a surprise shocker but eh, this season is getting to be kinda predictable.

I was really think Matt G might have stood a chance…

  • terps

I don’t know if there are any baseball fans on here, but Kris looks identical to Baltimore Orioles second basemen brian roberts

  • Victoria

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if there are any baseball fans on here, but Kris looks identical to Baltimore Orioles second basemen brian roberts

I know absolutely nothing about baseball but I just googled Brian Roberts and they DO look alike. I haven’t seen any contestant look-a-like threads this season yet, come to think of it. Hmm.

  • jpfan

Four of these people minimum will make the tour. All based on ONE song. What a horrible way to chose people. I guess they felt this way would increase the intensity but the ratings are going down anyway.

I liked Brooke’s song. I knew when Nigel left people would miss him. He bought some class and expertise to the show. Now it’s like instead of shopping at Saks you’re in Walmart. What’s next, the Dollar Store?

I’m glad Kris made it though. I like his voice and he sounded good in the group song. Matt just seems annoying. I’m happy when DI gets it wrong though. And building suspense doesn’t seem to mean anything this year.

  • MJack

I’m pretty content with these three goin through. Allison and Adam were a lock, looking at DiaIdol I was afraid Matt will advance despite that trainwreck. Liked Kris but expected him to get a wildcard and Megan go through. Anyway, hope to see the girl soon, she’s cool.
On the other hand, there is no suspense at all in this show, Normund/Adam finale? This sucks.
Not convinced about Adam, extremely dislike Gokey. Please some fodder come and amaze me. :begs:

  • cookcricket

I think Matt G. will get a wildcard. He’s ready to listen to the judges. I hope Jesse’s comment about definitely picking the right song (though I do agree with her some) doesn’t hurt her chances on a wildcard.

I have to admit I’m ready to tune in to see what Adam does next!

I think this “Satisfaction” has it’s theatrics too. ;)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_euKhE7rw0&feature=related

Sorry for the ugly link, I haven’t mastered better ones yet.

Kris Allen was a surprise for me, and a nice one at that. :)

  • jpfan

By the way, did Fox put in massive budget cuts this year. They keep repeating the same footage over and over again. I saw the Wonderful World video during auditions week. And we’re getting Brooke (who I liked) instead of you know Taylor Swift. Def bargain basement stuff. Next week maybe we’ll get the Cook infomercial again with a special performance by Chiceze.

  • star

Well they never have the huge musical stars on during the semis, unless it’s a former Idol winner like Carrie.

I think Matt G. will get a wildcard. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ready to listen to the judges.

Eh, I’m not so sure about the listening to the judges thing. He was kind of snotty again tonight, I thought.

  • Trina

Guess the girls rallied around the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“cuteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ boy. He was better than Matt last night, so fine with me.

Not me. I didn’t rally around Kris because I think he’s cute. I genuinely enjoyed his singing, even more than the very popular Adam. Both Kris and Allison I voted for so I’m very happy.

  • lizland

I’m bored. I hope i’m wrong, but there seems to be a lot of mediocrity in the first 6 through. I just have a bad feeling that (with a few exceptions) we may end up with mostly Ramiele Malubays – who have a great first song and then bore the pants off of everyone after that.

  • jpfan

I remember Kellie Pickler performing during semi-finals week or maybe I dreamt that. I’m not getting the love for the S7 also rans who seem to be getting the invites at the last minutes. I’m happy for them but it just adds to the slightly low rent feel of the show. It’s not like they announce them the week before, They just show up. Again no dis meant to them but the show feels thrown together.

Putting Danny and Adam at the end with the joke contestants is just a joke in itself.

  • bean99

I was happy that Allison made it, expected Adam to, but disappointed that Kris is in the top 12. His song wasn’t good at all and if he has such a good voice as Kara said, I didn’t hear it. I think he got in on looks which is too bad. I’d rather have had Jessie, Matt G, or even Megan & Mishavonna over him.

  • s0x_prisoner

OMG lol I love the Dance of Dorkiness! Haha Alex was funny… I love his “Aa” shirt. And Nathaniel Marshall at the end. Hahaha.

  • litigiousgrl

I think Kris benefited from the text voters. He’s cute to watch but I hope Matt moves on with a wild card.

  • Madcap Jester

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not getting the love for the S7 also rans who seem to be getting the invites at the last minutes. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy for them but it just adds to the slightly low rent feel of the show.

Well, we’re only in the semifinals, so Idol’s not going to bother shelling out tons of money for superstars; the guest artists for semifinals are almost always Idol has-beens. Once we hit top 10 and the mentors start coming, that’s when we’ll see the Mariahs and Stefanis.

  • janerazor

Why are the producers hell-bent on eliminating any modicum of suspense from these results shows? We all knew Adam was going through; heck, we were all fairly positive that Allison was going through. The only suspense was in the “extra” spot.

Oh, and yes, I noticed Nick was lipsynching during the group song big-time. Maybe they all were? And that’s why they sounded so good? Cuz while the group sounded nice together…all their voices kinda sounded alike….

Hated Brooke’s song. Heh, there was so much echo on the mic during the pre-song interview, she sounded as if she were addressing a baseball stadium.

  • lg

That’s two nights in a row now that Adam’s wild assed rock scream at the end of CGNS has reminded me of Edgar Winter’s vocal in Tobacco Road. Got an R&B diva vibe too. Just tickles me to no end. I think Adam can make any song his own.

  • judy

I don’t know about Kris’s singing, but I officially just fell in love with him. He was sooooo excited and surprised when he found out he made it through. That was fun to watch. I don’t know if he has a chance in hell to win, but I wish him well.

  • leome

Alex should make the top 12 based on that dance…
And I totally remembered that I’ve forgotten Von! I’m kinda curious to see what he brings next week. I suppose Lil will have the pimp spot, but he’ll probably go before her.

  • BootStar

Why did I sign up for the pool, LOL? I was shocked Kris made it through, but I guess it’s The Power of Simon (although it didn’t save Megan). Well, I threw Kris a few votes last night (although after hearing him again tonight I’m seriously wondering why), so I’d rather the contestants I voted for did well than my pool picks. (I think.)

I thought Brooke sounded meh and that song was treacly mush. I do like her though. Can she write something more along the lines of “Love is a Battlefield”?

I hope Nathaniel bats it out of the park next week, so there really is some suspense when they end the show with him and Lil Rounds as “the last two standing.” She bores me to tears.

I’ve been suspecting for weeks that the “It’s all about the guys this year!1!1″ shtick was all a ruse to stack the decks for a couple of strong female singers, and it looks like that’s exactly what’s going on.

Was it just me or did Matt look kinda shocked when they told him to sit down? He was so stunned he neglected to stand up at the end too after Adam went through. Matt’s a terrible dancer too. I really don’t get why everybody was so worked up about him. He does nothing for me.

  • primeminister

I want to see Matt G. perform something else at the wildcard show. I think he should get another chance, but if he falters again…we are officially over.

Jesse’s another one I’d like to see perform again, but I think the producers and judges prefer Megan to her. What a pity.

So for wildcards, who will they be? Anoop, Megan, and Matt G?

  • KrazeeK120

I went back and re-watched some of the performances from last night. And I gotta say, I wish I’d thrown in a few votes for Jesse. She was much better than I thought she was on first listen. I’d love for her to get a Wild Card. Megan wasn’t bad either but she was just so dang awkward. Jesse actually looks like she knows what she’s doing. I guess they probably need a token pretty blonde in the top 12 though.

  • risinggeneration

You know, I was just looking at the names of those who have are now in the top 12… I don’t know what it is, but after watching this show since the beginning, I don’t feel a connection to any of them.

Even in Season Three, with the same format, I felt a connection with some contestants by now.

Does anyone else feel this way?

  • heart2

I Like Chris but I hope he doesn’t do the Awe chucks routine!!

    Happy for Allison and Adam!

  • SparklesATL

I’m tired of this crap. Let’s get on with the show. Come May, we won’t even remember who most of these people are.

  • sparklesgirl2

Ugh, America… Mishavonna, Jesse, even Megan (first part of her song at least)… way better than the guys last night. I really hope the judges bring back TALENT for the wild card show, but I’m assuming it’ll just be more overpimped contestants or people who will bring drama to the wild card show. If Matt G comes back he better be like he was in Hollywood and not go all Justin Timberlake on us.

After doing a little more research on Kris, I think I may like him – IF he picks better songs than he did last night. I liked his Hollywood stuff, and his YouTube video of “Over the Rainbow” a la IZ – and Jason – is pretty nice.

I still am not sold on Allison. I hope she changes my mind.

Adam… well, he definitely brings an interesting vibe to the show. I think he has the potential to be awesome. We’ll see where he takes it.

I still think Alexis Grace is the best of the finalists by a long shot.

  • MJack

Talking about the pool, here’s a happy current top 5 player. :)

Next week will be propably more interesting, at this point I can’t even predict who goes as a lock.

And about Brooke, really like her and she’s good performer but this song… not my favourite.

  • holeighannie

Damn! I put 7 points on Adam, 7 on Allison, and 2 on Kris. My gut said to put the rest on him but I just couldn’t justify it, haha. Anyway, so happy he got through, he’s my favorite. :D I’m actually really happy with all three of them, which is great as next week looks to be boooring.

  • sparklesgirl2

P.S. If we do not have two girls go through next week I will be a little pissy. I know there’s a lot of fangirlies out there watching the show, but next week’s girls — at least from what I can tell — far outshine the guys. I’m pulling for Felicia, Alex, and possibly Arianna.

  • amnicr

I’m definitely happy with the results tonight, though I didn’t get to watch it. Here’s hoping some vids start surfacing soon besides the group number and whatnot. I’m glad Kris gets another shot. I’m really interested in seeing what he can do what with the little screentime he’s had thus far.

I’m also pretty pumped to watch Alex next week…..and Nathan actually. I’m also looking forward to Felicia too.

  • primeminister

P.S. If we do not have two girls go through next week I will be a little pissy. I think Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot and be a lock for the Top 12. Unless she sings Whitney/Stevie/Mariah. Oh wait, nevermind. That what she’s been doing so she’ll make it anyway!

Going into the show, my guesses for the next three are Lil Rounds, Felicia, and Scott. No Viva la Vida please!

  • s0x_prisoner

So for wildcards, who will it be? Anoop, Megan, and Matt G?

Yep, this is what I’m thinking, unless someone from Group 3 is completely robbed. We’ll see!

  • SparklesATL

If I never hear the word “pimp” or any variation thereof again, life would be good.

Anyone up to the challenge of coming up with a better word?

How about “wet”. “Of course Adam got the wet spot”

Love the comment jpfan. The Chikize comment cracked me up.

  • Kirsten

Well, clearly, TPTB do not listen to me (as if they would). I posted earlier today that they should declare Adam safe early and not leave him to the end to pair him with Nick. I know they do that to give their favourite another chance to perform in the pimp spot and a lot of people just check in for the last five minutes, but it’s BORING.

Could they at least TRY to entertain us this year?

ETA: Let me guess. Next week, Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot. She and Natheniel will be the last two standing and Lil Rounds will win! Oh, the suspense! Oh, the drama! ZZZZZzzzzz

  • jz

Alex should make the top 12 based on that danceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    YES.
    :lol_tb:

Next week’s group seems pretty balanced in talent between the boys and girls…
I think it all just depends on who goes Alexis Grace or Allison Iraheta on us.
Lil is the most likely lock for next week, but I hope not, because IMO her singing is not particularly unique, and I’ve heard many much better belters on the idol stage before.

I can’t wait to see how many babies will cry when Von performs next week…

  • St.Lucia

Did Adam’s obvious backing track EXTREMELY bother anyone?

I noticed it almost immediately and was appalled. I thought on my god, it’s Disco Satisfaction!

Oh Ricky Minor where are you?

And those awesome things called instruments…I’d like to see those return PRONTO.

Me thinks lack of instruments is going to make Scott McIntire not make it through next week…

  • sparklesgirl2

I thought Brooke was fab. What a great moment for her: to be back on that stage as a successful recording artist, playing her OWN SONG barefoot at the piano.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Here’s hoping some vids start surfacing soon besides the group number and whatnot.

I post lots of video. You don’t need to go searching around.

  • cookcricket

Oh Ricky Minor where are you?

Hubby said that Adam’s “Satisfaction” needed a LOUD band! I agreeee! It would have only made it better.

  • hypertwink

Ijust watched “Closer” and it’s probably one of the best (if not the best) group sings. I also had to smile at the pimpage of Adam and Matt G during this performance. But honestly, my attention was drawn to the little elf that was dancing his little heart out on stage…to the point that he missed a cue. Hee. I wub you, Kris Allen! :wub_tb:

  • abbysee

Me thinks lack of instruments is going to make Scott McIntire not make it through next weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I think Scott will or will not make it based on his vocal abilities and the amount of pimping he receives. Since nobody else got to play an instrument, that is the way it should be.

I am glad Matt G. didn’t make it based on his suckfest last night, so damn surprised that Kris did make it. Color me shocked. I thought that two girls would get through for sure!

Adam deserved the final sing out tonight, besides Nick/Normund, that is where alot of the buzz is.

I like Allison, but that damn red fake hair has to go. I mean it is what made me remember her initially, but now it’s just time to retire it.

I would love to see Nick again, I hope he get a wildcard. Whether he does or not, some idol exec is certainly trying to find a way to capitalize on the interest he has sparked. I don’t think they are going to save him for the finale, that’s for sure. Maybe a roving correspondant or something. This season needs some spice.

I hope to see Jesse again, while I wasn’t wild about her performance she was the only other girl that I could remember today beside Allison. I am not taken this Megan, Mishovanna is the other I might like to see. Matt G. will prolly get a shot too.

Next week is really going to be a bloodbath because that is the group that has some of my favorites, and a couple of darkhorses as well. Then there are a couple I would love to see on tour. We shall see.

  • soccerboi

Lol…I actually thought the group number of Closer may be the best group number ever on Idol…it was very good. Ok maybe I’m exaggerating…or am I?

  • brie200

I really think the group sings have been lip synched the past few weeks, so I can’t get that excited about them. Because even in the “solos” the guys don’t sound like themselves. It just seems overly staged. Normally I wouldn’t care, but it seems weird to be lipsyncing performances in a supposed “singing” competition.

  • tinawina

Holy cow… Brooke’s song is 89 on the ITunes real-time feed. That was fast!

  • mahrikka

Love, love, love Adam! I hope he stays around for a long time. He’s by far my favorite this year. I was really hoping Jesse would do something amazing last night and stay for a while longer. I hope she’s brought back as a wild card but I doubt it.

  • jpfan

I’m not surprised about Brooke’s song. If 20 million people watched the song and less than 1% bought her song, it would still be in the top 100 songs at iTunes if only for a day or two. That’s what Idol exposure can do.

  • St.Lucia

I really think the group sings have been lip synched the past few weeks, so I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get that excited about them. Hmm. I really wondered about the group sing tonight. Something felt off to me, but I guess I didn’t think they’d actually lip sync it. I mean it is totally possible, I’d have to look…but something felt just off about it to me in general

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

There’s no way I’m even coming close to winning the pool this year. LOL. I’m mostly just pissed that I actually had points on Kris (sue me. I liked him last night and thought the second half of his song was good.) but then switched them to Matt at the last minute. DAMN YOU, Dialidol.

And BOO on my local Fox station, who couldn’t get their shit straight for the entire first 42 minutes of the broadcast, so all I had was sound and a screen with distorted video.

Yay for Adam being in the top 12 though!

  • jz

On the group number… Matt and Adam harmonize really well. Who woulda thunk?

  • http://everyopinion.blogspot.com Terrie

Allison’s voice reminds me of a huskier Chrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls (I Touch Myself and Pleasure and Pain). I like that her speaking voice matches her singing voice.

Her quirky personality reminds me of the character Rayanne Graff from My So-Called Life — bratty, vulnerable and seemingly inebriated. It sets off my protective maternal instincts. I hope it’s just a teenage affectation to cover nervous insecurity.

Oh, and Adam! That is all.

  • cookcricket

would love to see Nick again, I hope he get a wildcard. Whether he does or not, some idol exec is certainly trying to find a way to capitalize on the interest he has sparked. I hope you’re right, they NEED to do something with him. After all it’s about ratings, right? LOL. He’s going to be remembered a long time, regardless of what one feels about him. Me? I want more!

When Ryan asked what he would do if he didn’t get through, my hubby said he should have responded, “I’m going for the host of AI next year!”

  • chicksineggz

    Kris Allen made it?!!
    Urgrrshughsurhgsugshrugh
Seriously, I would have rather had Nick Mitchell make it.

Really, I am getting sick of these contemporary group songs.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    DANCE! – Group 3

Haha! Nathaniel Marshall makes the weirdest faces!

Lolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I actually thought the group number of Closer may be the best group number ever on Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦it was very good. Ok maybe Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m exaggeratingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦or am I?

No, I loved it. Loved last week’s too. It’s about time they started singing something current.

  • brie200

St. Lucia, if they aren’t lipsyncing, then they are singing to a backing track with their mics way low. Sorry, but I’m not buying these kids that can barely stay in tune throughout their own songs can suddenly sing pitch perfect and harmonize to boot. Las week’s group sing too. Especially this early in the competition.

I swear Nick/Normund even forgot to sing at one point.

  • amnicr

    thanks for the vids mj!

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I missed the show, and somehow messed up my bonus questions too. I said that it would be two girls and I meant two guys. Not sure how that happened. That wasn’t one I changed. Gah.

Sarah, thanks for the texts. You rawk!

MJ, thanks for the vids. I just watched Brooke. I love her voice, but the song was kinda bland.

I haven’t gotten to any of the others yet.

I’m okay with Kris. Much better than Matt G getting through after his suckfest, which was my fear. I’m bummed for Jesse. I floved her. I doubt she’ll get a wildcard. It’ll go to Megan. Sigh.

  • http://myspace.com/bigbooty_hoes sarahjean

wow. I like the group song.
    weird.

And I definitely think Anoop should do Ne-Yo. It’s current, and it’s still in his style.
Uff I’m still pulling for him!

  • sabby_rina

I’m glad Allison made it through, her performance was the only one I liked. Adam was okay last night but I’m also glad he made it through cause I like him.

Bring on Felicia already! Let’s go, let’s go!

Oh Scott dancing with his cane… I LOVEZ IT!

  • Grammie Kari

The need for Anoop to be on the tour is getting more and more obvious!

I was sort of right about my choices except I had Adam as top male vote-getter. The teens have their cutie-pie contestant in Kris Allen, and I look forward to seeing him improve in the coming weeks. I think Megan may still get in there through the Wild Card round.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know much about a few of the contestants and still dislike the TOP 36 format. It just doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem right, or am I a bit bored? Is Simon bored?

The best part of the show was seeing Brooke White! Did anyone feel she had a bit of a country twang going tonight? I liked her sweet song.

  • t2

My picks for the wild card: Anoop, Megan Corkrey (I really kinda love her voice) and ?

I was sorry to see Matt go tonight, but he was just horrid and it broke my cold black heart. Dang!

From next week I am looking forward to Junot, Taylor Vanuafu(sp?), and Trugman.

Oh yeah, pulling my ear muffs out in preparation for Von.

  • bean99

I forgot to do my choices but I would never have picked Kris anyway. It’s too bad that 2 girls didn’t make it because they were far better than the guys last night. Jesse should have made it but I was even pulling for Megan who I didn’t love last night instead of a 2nd guy.

I thought my favorites would be all guys by this point but Alexis has earned her way there and I’m looking forward to hearing more from Allison. I want more than anything for Anoop to be a wildcard and will throw Matt G under a bus for that to happen, lol.

  • primeminister

I’m SO ready for Felicia Barton as well. Hopefully, she’ll turn out to be more of an Alexis/Allison than an Anoop/Matt G!

Hope Felicia slays everyone by singing “Black Horse and a Cherry Tree” or another one of her youtube gems.

  • baxter

I made the observation during the gruop sing that they were lip synching. SOunded too good…lol

Regarding Allisons hair….I think its a wig. The partline didn’t look natural.

I want Jesse back. Hoping for a wildcard for her.

Adam,IMHO, was much better tonight. He wasn’t playing to the camera as much and was more natural….well as natural as Adam gets!! LOL

Love the idea of Nick/Normound as a roving reporter. Now that would be a trip. Have him follow the idols around and do interviews with them…..Now that is something I would watch on results night.

  • Grammie Kari

Even in Season Three, with the same format, I felt a connection with some contestants by now.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I am also feeling this. As mentioned, the only one I seem to want to vote for (at this point) is Anoop.

I participated in the pool for the first time and realized I picked 4 guys and also giving all 7 points to Adam. Maybe after a few weeks, I’ll figure this out. I didn’t get in the first week, so I am already really behind.

  • Deejay

The group number was actually really good tonight! Nicely arranged, beautifully sung, and not campy. ::impressed::

Kris Allen? So much for Dial Idol.

ETA: Adam was fabulous once again.

  • houstonrufus

Completely Grammie and whomever you are quoting. Not feeling any connection to any of the contestants. It feels very, very much like one of those reality shows I normally make fun of even if I do watch. Yeah, AI is a reality show, but it has always been a cut above. Maybe it will get better. It just feels so all over the place and messy this year.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I don’t like this format. I think Jesse would have stood a chance if she had competed in the old format.

Also, I say this every season and it frustrates me to no end. You must pay attention to Dial Idol’s margin of error.

Dial Idol only predicted two people to be safe. Those people were safe. The rest were within the margin of error to be eliminated.

Besides, do you know how few people use Dial Idol compared to the voting public? It’s not a large sample.

That said, they build that into their “margin of error.” They were right.

ETA: Still watching the vids. Remember Simon’s weird ear moose thing last year? Now he’s picking on his hair.

  • sue

Thank you MJ for the vids, I missed have of the result tonight. Dang it!!! I thought Matt G’s fans would of pulled him through but they couldn’t. He will be a wildcard for sure. I just lost 6 freaking points in the pool.

Uggghh Brooke’s song was borrrrrinnnnng.! She looks good though. lol

I lurved the group number, Matt G. could of sung something like that, he sound great tonight.

I miss Nick/Normund already, bring him back pleassssssssssseeeeeeeeee for wildcard, and he does clean up nicely. :)

I kinda like Kris Allen too, lol, he is a cutee pie and he can sing, he does have potential.

Allison was good but I am not blown away by her, the only one that gets my heart pumping is Adam, man can he blow. That boy can sing his butt off. I love how he worked the camera too. :) You go Adam, he is so going to win this season, watch out Hokey. Move aside for the real singer.

  • aidc08

Season 8 is just not doing it for me. So glad to see Brooke. S7 was so great, anytime I see any of them, I am happy (especially DC, he was/is my fave ever).

I really hope Meghan gets a wildcard spot. I am holding out hope that the Top 12 gets better or I might find something else to watch this year.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Gosh, I hate to say this, because I enjoyed Adam so much last night. BUT, the screaming reminds me of Meatloaf, even if it is on key. I guess I’ve never been a fan of that kind of singing. No, not a huge Led Zepp fan either. I like their stuff in small doses.

And he seems like such a poser. I know it’s theatrics, but I don’t think AI has done a good job of letting us know these contestants at ALL. The new format makes it worse.

  • houstonrufus

You know, hope I don’t offend any big Adam fans, but the second time he performed, I actually started laughing. Is that a good sign? The first time I was impressed, but tonight I was, well, amused.

  • chicksineggz

You know, hope I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t offend any big Adam fans, but the second time he performed, I actually started laughing. Is that a good sign? The first time I was impressed, but tonight I was, well, amused.

He amuses me too. (: Making me laugh during a performance is always a good thing for me. Except maybe if you’re Von.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I think I was so starved last night for a good performance by a guy. :-)

ETA: I think for me there’s a huge disconnect between the way Adam looks and his chosen sound. He has this total Pete Wentz hair, but has the musical stylings of years past. Not David Bowie, as others have suggested. More like Meatloaf meets Aerosmith.

  • Deejay

You know, hope I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t offend any big Adam fans, but the second time he performed, I actually started laughing. Is that a good sign? The first time I was impressed, but tonight I was, well, amused.

I laughed both times! But I like that he makes me laugh. He’s so entertaining! LOL.

  • chicksineggz

Hey, I’m not doing as badly as I thought I would in the pool. I got the bonus questions at least.

  • sunchick

Hubby said that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Satisfactionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ needed a LOUD band! I agreeee! It would have only made it better.

Trusay. Paging the House Band from Rockstar… (LOL, I used to page them a lot last season, too, for Cook and for myself, because they were hot.) I dunno, that upper register that grates for some people, I just think it makes his voice, well, uniquely his. I like voices with that extra something that makes them distinctive, but I can see why it’s not for everyone.

  • Diana

Matt G didn’t pick the wrong song, he just proved himself to be a very poor singer.

Seriously, I don’t see how the judges can give him a WC after that performance. Nick is more deserving.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

sunchick, the Rock Star band was really, really good. I think someone else said today that the these contestants need to figure out how to work within the constraints of their band.

Diana, Nick was entertaining, but his vocals weren’t all that for me.

I think the girls (except for Adam) were much better overall last night. I hope Jesse gets a wild card, but since Simon doesn’t like her, I’d be shocked if she did.

  • stelladallas

I just watched the video of Adam’s sing out. He blew the roof off the dump. Like him or not, that is going to be tough to beat.

  • sue

I wasn’t on the Adam bandwagon until now. The Cher performance of “Believe” was horrid but “Satisfaction” is delightful. I just want Adam to bring Hokey down, LOL. It’s something about his crazy glam-loony retro style that makes me want to watch. He is at least interesting. I was actually looking forward to hearing him sing again. I am kinda liking that Kris Allen kid too. :)

I pray that they put Von Smith first and not last next week. It’s been so pleasant not seeing him on tv. He just rubs me the wrong way. I will take drama queen Nathaniel over Von any day. LOL

I am also looking forward to what Scott, Felicia and Alex will bring.
Wildcard should be fun if they get to sing a new song. I hope that Matt G. and Anoop is coming back and will bring it.

I want Nick/Normund in the wildcard too as well as Tatiana, but they can only pick three.

I want Anoop, Normund and Matt G. in the top 12 but if not then they can squeeze in Mischa or Tatiana. LOL yes Tatiana, I love her, really I do.
Jesse and Megan are good but they don’t appeal to me and they have no chance in winning anyway so I rather be entertained in the top 12.

I bet they will bring Tatiana and Normund back for the finale, LOL..:)

  • erinnthered

I know ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s theatrics, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think AI has done a good job of letting us know these contestants at ALL. The new format makes it worse.

    ITA

I mean, I think I’m generally happy with the results tonight, but the truth is I just don’t know. Nothing about the early shows told me much about the majority of the contestants’ style. I don’t like that we really won’t be able to tell anything about these people until about the top 10. I’m not sure this is good for the tour this year. I doubt it can be good for the ratings unless they really luck out.

ETA: I’m really glad I changed my pool picks today. I split the last six between Jesse, Nick, and Kris. 16 points plus 3 bonus!

ETAA: The wild cards are gonna suck. I really hope they at least give Jesse a chance.

I pray that they put Von Smith first and not last next week. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been so pleasant not seeing him on tv.

This is so true and has had me chuckling for the last ten minutes.

Granted, I’m not a vocal coach with perfect pitch, but the few times that I’ve heard Von, I enjoyed him… :unsure_tb:

Sure, he belted a lot…but Adam screeches a lot.

Personally, I liked Von’s tone a lot more than Adam’s.

I’m hoping he tones down the belting some next week and surprises people.

  • m5carolin

I am so sad about Matt and Megan. I thought one of them would for sure get through tonight. I’m excited about Adam…I like Allison, just didn’t love her as much as the judges did.

Next week I’m excited for Junot, Scott, and Lil Rounds.

I definitely think Adam chose the right song. I posted a link to Mic Jagger’s “Satisfaction” on page 2 of this thread and he shows all kinds of theatrics in this! Of course this is his song…but just sayin’ for a cheesy show Adam did it some justice.

I can’t wait to see what he does next!

I’m really, really hoping for that wildcard for Jesse. Paula, come on girl, show your stuff! Pull her through! Give Simon another kiss if you have to! He might think Jesse is forgettable, but I don’t think he forgot that!

  • yummystars

The part of the show that was most entertaining for me was the ritual humiliation, I mean group number, because Nick was just so nonchalant and hardly singing. For me, he was by far the most intriguing person to look at because he wasn’t painfully hamming it up like everyone else. When he is dressed like a normal guy, he is actually pleasant to look at. He has an interesting face. I bet he will get some kind of management deal out of this adventure; he might wind up doing comedy films.

I would really like to have heard him come out in these simple clothes last night and sing a song straight. I can’t believe I’m writing this because I used to think he was really annoying but I guess he’s grown on me.

Adam is so professionally-trained and Broadway; his singing style reminds me of the way you’d do a song from Hair so I can really relate to the Meatloaf analogy someone brought up. But I like Kris and Allison better.

I can’t wait till this “fake” AI is over and the “real” finals start. No wonder why ratings are down.

I’m glad Simon told the loathsome Kara off, in his way, tonight.

I like watching the parents dancing. Adam and Kris’s moms were really rocking out.

I was so focused on Adam’s performance skills that I completely missed the wonderfully cheesy Elvis Costello-style Vox organ in the invisible band’s arrangement of Satisfaction. I can’t wait to see what the band does with him on the big stage.

    pj Feb 26th, 2009 at 11:48 pm

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like this format. I think Jesse would have stood a chance if she had competed in the old format.

I agree. AI has never really nurtured its talent, but at least the old format gave most contestants 2 or 3 chances to crack the top 12.

Jesse was probably my favorite girl this season. Simon seems not to like her, so I doubt she will be a wild card pick. Simon’s first impressions tend to be swift and negative, but he can change his mind. Unfortunately, this new format is built on first impressions and even a minor, correctable mistake is fatal.

For me, the best part of the competition is watching a performer grow week after week. TIIC have removed a key ingredient of the show’s success — viewers’ growing investment in their favorites. My favorites — Clay, Elliott and Jason — likely would have been early casualties under this new format.

ETA: Clay was a viewers’ wild card pick after not making the judges’ cut, so the format in season 2 was not the same as it is now.

  • lakerchristinee

Irregardless of how “personable” Adam may be in comparison to Von or if he can sing on key or not, they are both OVER THE TOP. The judges have told Von to tone it down, but not Adam? Personally to me, the facial expressions on Adam are just as excruciating as Von’s and I cover my ears just as often. Seeing as Adam gave off a good impression with bohemian rhapsody and toning it down, I think that’s where he should be–however if he does that, nothing will stand out about him. With everyone I know, he’s known as the “shrieky, girly, Drake Bell mixed with Joe Jonas entertainer with the nail polish.” Ooookayy…

I think Megan has a better chance of getting a WC than Jesse, though I like them both.

I agree and, alas, I don’t think Megan is as good of a singer or performer either. This show needs somebody pretty and I think Megan is going to be that girl. I like Megan too, just keep it real.

  • colette

I’m really relieved that the American people, who seem to have the hang of voting in the right folks lately (on and off the show).

So glad they bypassed the cutie-pie but very pitchy Simon fave, Megan, and saw the potential in Kris. The song was too low for him in the verse, but he rocked the chorus good and has a very pleasing voice (a very cute face, to boot). The musician chops help, and I hope they let him play his guitar the way they allowed Cookie to.

Allison is really talented. Is she also nuts? I’m not sure. But she seems a lot more spacey/confused (when she’s talking) than previous teen finalists. No argument that she can really belt.

Adam, Adam, Adam. Again, real talent there, and a lot of experience. I tell ya, acting training coupled with a good voice really stacks up on AI. However, he’s got to do more than scream out the songs and pour on the theatrics. I’m remembering how clever Taylor was at exceeding expectations, by dropping the dancing a couple times and just singing soulful renditions of “Something” and “In the Ghetto.”

  • colette

I meant to say “I’m really relieved that the American people etc. etc. are on their game!”

One question though: did Adam come awfully close to doing some Michael Jackson-esque crotch grabbing during his encore of “Satisfaction”? Or was that just silly old me perceiving that….

Wow. Adam’s performance of Satisfaction tonight was perfection to me. I liked it even better than last night. It takes mad skill to sing like that – to sing all around the melody. I’ve always liked him, but his performance tonight took it to another level. I’m blown away by his talent.

The top six seemed very excited tonight – especially at the end. I’m liking the group so far.

  • seattle_girl

^^Nope, that wasn’t just you. After watching his YouTube performance of Crazy, I was TOTALLY thinking he was going to forget where he was for a minute and scare all the children. Prime time TV is a leetle different than some of the theaters he performs in.

My daughter and I were both laughing along with Adam tonight. Her cuz she likes him, me not so much. The grimacing and tongue flailing…just UGH.

  • Niall

What I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand is how come Von is pointed out for being completely over the top when Adam is embraced for thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦?

Adam has a trained instrument with his voice and knows how to use it. People may or may not like how he uses it but he KNOWS what he is doing. Von is like that annoying neighborhood kid who makes weird noises and faces for attention, and all of the noise he makes is painful.

I look at bands like My Chemical Romance, Panic!at the Disco, The Killers, and other bands/singers with overdone looks and dramatic lead singers (and lyrics) and can definitely see a place for Adam in the mainstream music industry if he wins with a modern day new wave type sound. He’s got star quality and is going to find a very successful niche somewhere, regardless of whether or not he wins AI.

Kris is a grown up David Archuleta. He’s even shrimpy and bland like Gaspchuleta. Which probably means every daughter, mom and grandma will be powervoting for him.

I really enjoyed Brooke White’s original tune. I want AI to continue bringing back old contestants to feature. Maybe they should dip back into some earlier seasons and bring back some people who haven’t been on the show for awhile but have some new music that hasn’t been exposed to the public. I have a feeling the audience would like a chance to see people they haven’t seen in awhile like Josh Gracin, for example.

  • Layla

oh deaqr! Kris????? I guess the show must have their young teen boyband type to please that demographic.

Great that Allison and Adam made it through…a pity about Jesse as I really really like her. Megan and her jerky awkard movements…hope she doesn’t get a wild card.

Still feel the same about Brooke White…she grates on my nerves and she looks and sings like a much older than she is. She was as unintersting as ever.

  • brownstarz

I look at bands like My Chemical Romance, Panic!at the Disco and other bands/singers with overdone looks and dramatic lead singers (and lyrics) and can definitely see a place for Adam in that genre. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got star quality, something sorely lacking this season.

Thank you Niall! I said the same thing after Adam’s performance last night and alot of people disagreed. I definitely see the a similar vocal range in Adam as with Gerard Way from My Chemical. As well as similar vocal range to Mika.

I felt Adam is similar to Panic at the Disco only in his on stage presence, showmanship, and theatricality. Which is all positive in my book.

And for people who think theatricality in pop music doesn’t sell. Let me name drop another current mega-star: Lady Gaga. Do you see the crazy theatrical stuff she does on stage? Love it.

  • Niall

I mentioned it a couple days ago too. He’s similar yet also different from Gerard Way but the focus on image and theatrics (though I think Gerard’s character is much darker than Adam) definitely match up. Mika is another good comparison. I’d also throw Brandon Flowers into the mix, again not vocally but in terms of being outside the box and a bit flamboyant. Adam may not end up a top 40 darling like Justin Timberlake, in fact I doubt he will, but there is a place for him in the mainstream industry and he has many forefathers, from David Bowie and Freddie Mercury to Axl Rose (vocally). I’d love for him to tackle some GnR, by the way.

I was thinking the same thing with Panic, brownstarz. Vocally there isn’t a ton of similarity but it is the over the top showmanship and sense of the dramatic. I think Adam could totally pull off “Nine in the Afternoon.”

  • lakerchristinee

Von is like that annoying neighborhood kid who makes weird noises and faces for attention, and all of the noise he makes is painful.

Adam is doing exactly that. Annoying facial expressions and painfully excruciating noises. But I suppose it’s just your preference because I hate bands like Chemical Romance and I’m all for Kris/David.

  • daenarys

The former AI contestant Adam most reminds me of is……Fantasia. Both talented and natural performers with very distinctive vocals (Fantasia more so than Adam). With the right song in the right groove, she’s sublime. But when she trainwrecks, it’s da motha of all trainwrecks. I hope Adam is as smart as he’s pretty. Hee. I also have to compliment him on his wardrobe (I don’t think they’re in the makeover stylists hands at this point yet). Girl knows his duds. LOL. I wouldn’t mind some of his jackets.

  • BlankSlate

Is there a video of Kris Allen singing EVERYTHING (Michael Buble) from, I think, Hollywood week? Thanks.
    He’s young– 23 and married.

Sorry, guys. I wrote the last post in my sleep. I fell asleep at my computer desk. Just looked up and saw I “wrote” the above. Gee, is my face red! Was I dreaming or didn’t someone– Paula?– say Kris sang EVERYTHING at some point before tonight? I love that song and would love to hear his take on this one.

    Exactly!

My new roommate isn’t even trying to keep up anymore. She says she may try again at the top 12, but somehow I doubt it. I think they forgot that AI didn’t become the ‘Death Star’ until about seasons 4…exactly when they adopted the top 24 format.

What I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand is how come Von is pointed out for being completely over the top when Adam is embraced for thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦?

My answer to that is pretty simple. I like Adam and I can’t stand Von.

Adam’s over the topness makes it part of his charm, his charisma, and his over all package. It works for him and I find it enjoyable.

Von comes off to me as trying way too hard where as Adam looks like it is effortless.

Von sings crap songs, Adam chooses things he can make current. I would not be surprised to see Von sing something along the lines of “I’m telling you” next week. If he did I’d take Nick/Norman for sure over Von.

I think Adam changes up songs and inserts his own little nuances(which may be screaming/screeching in some eyes) into a song but makes it something of his OWN and entertaining to watch.

Von on the other hand, in my opinion, belts a whole song from start to finish and doesn’t really “add” anything to it, just screams it which doesn’t make it enjoyable to me.

Sometimes I’m not sure why I like Adam either because typically he wouldn’t fit the mold of anything I would normally listen to, but for whatever reason I think Idol has found something special with him and I hope he continues to hit some of those glorious high notes and I’ll continue to vote my fingers off for him.

  • MaryS-NJ

He amuses me too. (: Making me laugh during a performance is always a good thing for me. Except maybe if youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re Von.

Yeah, I find Adam entertaining. I’m likely to get bored with it if it’s OTT every week so I look forward to seeing if he can tone it down. I’m not sold on him as a recording artist whose music I would buy, but it’s early yet.

I predict Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot next week. She’s one of the main pimpees this season and can belt and frankly, I think they would want some diversity in the final 9. Right now, it’s not a very diverse group that has gone through so far.

  • jpfan

It looks like Brooke White’s song is #12 on iTunes. wow.

Interesting comments about casual viewers losing interest. I’m losing interest myself and am not looking forward to next week. Especially if they sing the same song in the wild cards. Boring. Without this site, I don’t think I’d even bother watching this season anymore.

Hear, hear. Been a RABID fan since Season 4 and so far am not really invested in anyone. I just really, really dislike the way the elims are being handled this year — getting the tiniest glimpse of someone and then POOF! They are gone. Watching back, yes, Kris Allen did a great job, but is Matt G doomed because of one sub-par performance? And Dial Idol totally misled me. I can also count way more than three performers I want in wild card next week. To quote Randy, this season just isn’t doing it for me. Come on, Lil and Felicia and Taylor, show us what you can do, girls!

  • SparklesATL

Adam = Gay (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)

Adam = tongue like a snake (Not that there’s anything wrong with that either)

This sums it up for me. I love this blog! But I’m losing patience with the show. I remember back in 2006 when everyone in my office was glued to American Idol and it was real water-cooler conversation. I think I’m the only one who still watches it at all.

Are the wildcards really going to repeat their semifinal performances? Ugh. I would love to see Jesse get another chance, but I’m not overwhelmed by any of the finalists so far. I like Alexis best so far but I really dislike this format.

  • Tess

Right now, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a very diverse group that has gone through so far.

Pretty much white bread with the exception of Allison. I think this is where the wild card round will “attempt” to bring in some ethnic and vocal diversity.
Danny, Michael, Alex, Kris pretty much fill the same type of niche. Only Adam and Allison throw much of a twist into the mix.

Since what I have read before the “fan favorites” are leaning toward more of the same from group 3 (Alex, Felicia, Scott). If so, Adam will go a long way since his “freak” flag will get him a lot of attention.

  • hardkandy

    Brooke! Adam! Kris! Normund!

    Love this episode of AI.

  • poporange

I guess I may be losing interest because wednesday night all I thought mostly was what was going to happen to Lock from “Lost” and Terry ‘ Quinn was a pretty good actor . I am not blown away with Allison.omg is 16, or Alexas ,like Kelly C, I know they can sing they just remind me of others and out of the same old AI page of female pop singers. I want something different hoping Felicia will bring her game next week or if she does will she become fodder for the before mentioned?Lil bring hers and be another female r&b singer for AI? Maybe AI is like “Lost” it is like a flashback in time because some of these contestant are really familar to those in the past?

Adam said about Nick to paraphrase”Nick was hilarious and I was laughing my butt off” was kind of classy.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I have not missed an episode of AI since the middle of Season 1. But, this year, I am having a really hard time being interested. There isn’t one person in the top 12 yet that I really like. This format just SUCKS! Imo, it is much worse than the earlier versions of this type of format. They made some great changes last year – particularly in including instruments. So they did away with that and added more judges so they can waste more of our time with their bickering and jockeying for position. That is SO not why I have watched this show.

My decision on whether or not to continue watching is definitely going to depend on the final makeup of the top 12. There have been a number of times when I wasn’t enthralled with all of the top group, but there have always been at least a few to keep my interest. So far, nothing this year. I may wind up just following it on here and finding another way of spending my Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Very disappointed.

  • Kirsten

I predict Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot next week.

I predicted the same thing. So does Slezak in his recap of last night:

    By Michael Slezak Michael Slezak
[Series of Questions] And will Lil Rounds get the pimp spot next week?
Okay, so we already know the answer to that last one.

This show has never been so predictably boring. Come on show, throw us a bone. Put somebody other than Lil Round in the pimp spot.

I don’t think Adam or Danny would have needed the pimp spot to advance. They have massive fan bases and they sang well. They don’t NEED this early over the top support. But I NEED some variety. I would like not to be able to write the script 3 weeks in advance.

I know that Sudden Death Idol scares them into thinking they’ll lose their favourites, but they always have the Wild Card should disaster strike and one of their pets not make it.

I took a look back through Season 1-3 and they didn’t give the pimp spot to the producer’s pet every week. Ruben didn’t get the pimp spot. Jennifer Fuentes (Dance!) did. Latoya London had never been heard on the show before her semi-final slot and she got the pimp spot.

I’m not saying that Danny or Adam were not good enough for the pimp spot, but the pimp spot doesn’t always go to the best of the night and I don’t think that it’s interesting to give it to the same person two nights in a row. I especially don’t think it’s interesting if it is a results night. After Kris was declared safe last night, I could safely go and do something else because everybody knew that Adam was going to go through. Unless I wanted to watch Adam perform again, there was no point in watching. Now, if they’d left Kris, Matt G and Jesse until the end, they would have held people’s interest. Plus, Kris had no idea he was going through (Adam can pretend all he likes, but I’m pretty sure he knew he was going through over Nick) and I think it was much more emotional to watch Kris advance (whereas with Nick/Adam, it was just “Ryan, knock it off and say Adam’s name. You aren’t fooling us”).

I liked Brooke’s song after I listened to it a second time, it kinda grows on you…

And is it just me, but Allison reminds me of that Miley Cyrus – only she sings better and isn’t so skinny – just the way she talks and the tone or her voice plus the faces/gestures….

  • mandalay

Bobbi. I agree with every word you said. I’m already not watching. I just come here in the morning to read and watch the vids.

Since I didn’t watch, what was the “unseen audition” that Ryan talked about?

  • mandalay

BlankSlate, I want to hear Kris sing Everything too. Anyone?

I was wondering what Simon said about next week and the Wild Card show .I only ask because it was at that exact moment my Fox station decided to drop the sound and the sound didn’t come back till sometime during the dance of who will be on next Tuesday .
So can anyone fill me in ?

  • jpfan

True about the pimp spot. Why give it to all the judge’s favorites? So boring and unfair. If Danny or Adam didn’t make it though (a miracle), the judges could wild card them. And does it really matter how well they perform on wild card night? No, because the judges already know what three are going through.

At least with the old format, the pimp spot was crucial. Because once you were voted off, you were gone for good.

  • KrazeeK120

    Kirsten. Yes.

I’m a little bit baffled at the producers’ choice to leave the most un-suspenseful person until the end. You’d have to be awfully dense to not think that Danny and Adam were going through. It’s like they don’t even care to hold our attention any more. Their “changes” haven’t proven to be good ones yet. IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT!

I hate how un-interesting and rather predictable the show has become. I wouldn’t even watch any more except for this site.

  • ParticleHustler

What really bothers me about the over-the-top pimping of Adam/Danny is that they would rather ruin any possible, REAL drama in the results show just to give both of them one more pimp spot singing to end the show. So, instead of putting both of them through early on because they are no-doubters, and ending the night with the real question of whether Michael Sarver or Kris Allen actually make it, they bury both of those results halfway through the show and give us 2 obvious winners vs. 2 obvious losers to end the show. And the only reason they did that was to pimp them one more time. The results shows are bad enough as it is, but I can’t believe they are actually making them worse by killing the drama just for more pimping. Blech.

It was much better than recent group songs, but go to youtube and try to find Season 2 group numbers. They were routinely topnotch – they had chemistry and their voiced meshed so well. It’s a pity all the group numbers (and commercials) were cut from Idol Rewind.

  • jpfan

I’m predicting Lil Rounds v. annoying Nate with the piercings for the next results show. Or maybe Scott v. Nate. Depending on who is the most obvious pimpee.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

So happy with Adam and Allison, I personally think Adam makes excruciatingly beautiful music. Wow what a voice the two of them have. Kris surprised me but I just dont remember seeing him sing before so I will wait and see. Glad there is no more Norman, just sick of his act and the “gosh, I never know WHO I am going to be until I go right out there, yeah freakin right, he ALWAYS knew he was going to be the weird guy every time, that is what AI wanted for whatever reason and he delivered that every time, talk about not suspenseful and who cared. Yes, hate this format and I sure hope it gets better than this or I will be soooo sad. I think that they picked the ones they really really wanted to go up against some crazy or not so good ones to ensure they were picked. I think they got it right so far but really, where is the suspense or omg in any of that?

Nope, not your imagination. He likes his crotch, as he very well should. Seems when he heads that direction, the camera pans away. I’m expecting him one day to do a flat-out grab.

The former AI contestant Adam most reminds me of isà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Fantasia. Both talented and natural performers with very distinctive vocals (Fantasia more so than Adam). With the right song in the right groove, sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sublime. But when she trainwrecks, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s da motha of all trainwrecks.

Oooooh…maybe they can duet on Lady Marmalade.

I predict Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot next week.

I think so, too. I also think I’m over Lil Rounds. She’d better not touch Whitney next week.

What I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand is how come Von is pointed out for being completely over the top when Adam is embraced for thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦?

It’s all a matter of preference, and that goes for any Idol contestant in any given season.

  • dvls

For some reason, Adam reminds me of Constantine, and that is NOT a good thing.

  • minzhi

After watching the results show, I change my mind about Kris. He had something, a potential which I think might blossom into something hopefully.

I also thought Adam sounded better than the night before, but I am still not digging his voice. :)

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I look at bands like My Chemical Romance, Panic!at the Disco, The Killers, and other bands/singers with overdone looks and dramatic lead singers (and lyrics) and can definitely see a place for Adam in the mainstream music industry if he wins with a modern day new wave type sound.

But those bands don’t represent the broad appeal Idol is looking for in a winner. Those bands sell records, but they aren’t multi-plat hitmakers.

If Adam wins Idol, they won’t know what to do with him. He’ll be in danger of going the way of Taylor Hicks.

Still, I’m not completely sold on Adam as a relevant, contemporary pop artist. Not saying he can’t be, from my perspective, the jury is still out.

Who is Adam Lambert, as a singer? Like really, who is he?

At this point, I’m getting more stage actor vibes than musician vibes from him. So, my fear is that he will reinvent himself to entertain the crowd week after week. That in itself is not a bad thing because I’m sure that the viewing audience loves the entertainment. He’ll be a great tour draw, in my opinion. But, this

If Adam wins Idol, they wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what to do with him. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be in danger of going the way of Taylor Hicks.

is about where I am right now.

I can’t even wrap my mind around him singing something like Magic Rainbow over and over again.

I think the show is going to be great exposure for him to produce the music he wants to sing. But, I do think that title of American Idol on Adam Lambert would be totally constricting.

After watching the results show, I change my mind about Kris. He had something, a potential which I think might blossom into something hopefully.

Funny, after watching the results show, I thought Kris sang worse than the night before. I had already agreed with Kara that only half the song was good initially, but the second time he sang it, I’d say less than half was good. My verdict’s not out for Kris yet. He seems likeable and had some moments, but not that thrilled about him. I’m not in love with Kara, but I feel like she’s improving, and was pretty annoyed with Simon’s rudeness to her. I generally like Simon and agree with him quite often, but I thought Kara was right on about Kris, and I hated that she had to reneg on her words, and I really hated that Simon was all gloat-y that the audience listened to him yet again, and voted Kris through.

I would’ve liked Jesse, Mishavonna, or even Megan there instead. Still holding out hope that Matt G gets picked for wildcard so he has a chance to redeem himself, cuz I’m still intrigued. I’d like for Jesse to be there too, but I have a feeling it might be Megan if either of them would get picked. Sad for Mishavonna– she did well, but I don’t think she’s got a shot at wildcard based on the judges.

I’d pay some serious moolah to see that!

For some reason, Adam reminds me of Constantine, and that is NOT a good thing.

    At least he does this:

come awfully close to doing some Michael Jackson-esque crotch grabbing during his encore of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Satisfactionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

And not blow dry his chest hair, or take a picture sniffing his armpits.

I agree that neither Danny or Adam needed the pimp spot. Frankly I think it’s dumb to give it to them so early when they don’t need it as opposed to giving it to the later down the line when they might need it. That is if they really are TCO’s.

Is Scott a chosen one as well? I am not sure.

So far these two early rounds spotlights the power of Simon, people forget what they see and hear, and vote with him. At least that is what I attribute the slots garnered by Michael Sarver and Kris Allen. By the way he doesn’t remind me of Archie at all. Hell I even had to look up his name because I didn’t remember who the heck he was. I sorta liked the second half of his song, but he doesn’t have young David’s charm or vocal prowess, or it wouldn’t be such a shock him moving forward. IMVHO, if course.

I am surprised that Ruben didn’t receive the pimp spot at this juncture during his season. But then he didn’t need it. Just as neither Danny or Adam this year. I don’t get wtf they are doing.

Unless the finals turn out some very serious performances this is so far my least favorite season and I am an idol apostle. So far their ain’t much gospel to preach this year. I partially blame the format, and the performers for really disappointing in many cases. From Matt G to Jasmine, so many front runners choked. Kinda sad.

    Since I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch, what was the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“unseen auditionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ that Ryan talked about?

That baffled me and everyone watching with me.
It was a blonde girl auditioning. If she was someone special I totally missed it. It wasn’t a terribly good audition but it wasn’t a joke either.
To be honest I was a bit miffed by the whole thing, i’m sure I must be missing something.

  • Duke

Two weeks in a row the same things have happened: 2 obvious front runners make it, and then the 3rd spot goes to the person who got undeserved praise from Simon Cowell – i should have seen it coming. Simon’s words have proved to be a powerful…and i think its kinda bullshit.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I completely agree with the conclusion that AI is producing on the cheap this year. However, I think they could have done a much better job if they had gone back to the Season 1 format and style rather than this hodgepodge of mess. Season 1 was simple, enjoyable and effective. It also highlighted the kids more than anything else. They would have saved mucho dinero and given the audience what they really want.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Okay, I thought casual viewers were losing interest, but a facebook “friend” from high school wrote on American Idols’ wall saying she’s loving Adam Lamber. LOL.

  • TXArchitect

Adam seems to be doing a lot of ELVIS. It looks to me as if he has studied the Lip-Snear that Elivs did – and ADAM has it down pat. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but his facial mannerisms really evoke The King.

Also, who else points their tongue and sticks it out of their mouth on the high notes? It kindof jazzed me in a nasty sort of way. It was particularly wierd since there was a commercial earlier during the show in which the normal-looking actress said she was an ALIEN and then this reptilian tongue came out of her mouth and licked whatever the product was. Then, when ADAM sang, it was like deja vu! How in the world does he sing and thrust his tongue at the same time? Very kinky. He should win just for channeling Elvis and exchanging the pelvic thrust for a tongue thrust. HOT.

  • lovegoodmusic

I hope Jesse Langseth gets a wild-card spot because I think there is a lot more to her and she sang very well the other night. There is just something musically professional about her that I like.

And in my opinion Megan should not be given a wild-card just because sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty. But knowing how screwy the show has been so far, I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t put it past them to give a coveted spot to someone whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty and doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sing well verses a better singer.

Does anyone know which producerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s made some of these changes?

Season 8 so far is bordering on atrocious. And the lack of instruments and playing hide-and-go-seek with the band is like taking a step backwards.

All in all there are a few promising contestants so I will continue to watch as long as I am entertained. But for some reason I am not heavily invested in any of the contestants like I was this time last year.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

lovegoodmusic, I’m not invested either. Trust me, I’m not one to look back to past seasons and not move on because the last batch was so “great.” I think there’s a fundamental problem with this format.

First week, I loved Alexis, but she hasn’t sung another song and her sitting in a chair isn’t enough to keep my interest alive.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

I know – the tongue thing with Adam is very different but I looked back at his old videos and even in the religious musical he is doing that, I think he has to do that to open up his throat to hit the high notes maybe? I dont think he would try to be kinky during that? Where is the lady that studied the voices at, what was here name??? Help us out here

  • jumpstart

Season 8 so far is bordering on atrocious. And the lack of instruments and playing hide-and-go-seek with the band is like taking a step backwards.

Totally agree. I’ve experienced a lot of emotions during my years of AI watching … but disinterest has never been one of them.

Last year, everyone in my office would watch AI on their lunch break. This year, no one is even talking about it.

  • janerazor

Oh yeah, the unseen audition was a WTF moment. Just some woman singing pretty well…maybe her voice and face were a little more animated than they should have been…a little bit in hyperactive cruise ship mode, but she sounded fine, really. So why were they showing it? It’s a mystery.

I hope Jesse gets a shot at the WC.

I know Adam can sing, and I have no doubt he’d be awesome to see in a Broadway show, but hearing him again last night…gosh, there’s something kinda jarring about his singing style…and not in a good way, for me. I’ll reserve judgment, because I know he can sing, but I’m hoping he does not keep on pummelling my ears all season.

Almost forgot: Randy, never ever ever ever tell any woman anywhere that she “blew it out da box!” Cuz that just sounds disgusting.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

The tongue extension does aid in hitting high notes. I don’t know if it’s necessary to stick it that far out, though.

I predict Lil Rounds will get the pimp spot next week. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one of the main pimpees this season and can belt and frankly, I think they would want some diversity in the final 9. Right now, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a very diverse group that has gone through so far.

I think ensuring diversity in the cast is going to be way more important than keeping the genders equal. If Junot Joyner or Lil Rounds don’t advance next week, an African American will be advanced to the Top 12 via the wildcard.

The cast, Alexis, Danny, Michael, Kris, Adam–other than Allison it’s lookin’ pretty white bread so far.

As it stands, she’s one of the judges favorites. I agree, it’s a pretty good bet she’ll perform last next week.

PS the diversity issue bodes very well for Anoop, even if he sings like a white guy. ;)

  • windmills

Wow @ Brooke’s single. I thought she did a really good job with it yesterday. The song’s the perfect style for her but it seems like album filler material IMO. It’s nice though. Good for her. If she isn’t already signed to a record deal this can only help.

  • maturin

The Nick and Adam picture at the top makes me all :sad_wp:

It’s like there’s an invisible caption reading “somebody here got dealt a sh*tty hand in the showbiz luvin’ gay men category of life, and someone here gots all the aces, MISTER, but at least I’m a good sport about it.” Awww. Not that I want to see the “you and you and you” thing ever again, but awww.

  • whosefanryou

re: Adam’s tongue thing — He actually has very good technique there which enables him to sing those high notes repeatedly and often without inflicting damage on himself in the process. Allison could benefit from some pointers from Adam on how to preserve her voice. I love her raw talent, but I’m a little worried about her in that regard.

Me and my unlimited texting plan love Kris Allen, and not because Simon said he was proud of him or implied that he deserves a spot. I love the tone of his voice and I think he falls in my beloved singer/songwriter niche. He was one of the folks in the competition who is extremely reliant on his instrument and not comfortable without it at all, and yet he rose to the challenge and made the cut. I look forward to seeing what he can do when he is reunited with his guitar on the big stage. His genuine excitement and surprise at making it in, along with his enthusiatic hoedown during Adam’s sing-in, were very endearing and I love him even more now than I did when I was texting in for him.

I’m genuinely thrilled with the way the top 12 is stacking up. I don’t like Gokey, but love Adam so am looking forward to the showdown I think we may be headed for.

  • calimari

I did think Adam was the best male and Allison the best female of the night, so I was fine with those. I had high hopes for Matt but I thought his performance was awful. I thought the next best performers were Jesse, Misha, and Kris – I don’t remember Kris at all from the earlier rounds, but I thought he put in a good effort – not incredible – but solid. I think Jesse deserved it more, but I was not upset about Kris. He might be one of those performers who grows as he continues on.
I do think Jesse should come back for another chance – she has a real musical sense about her, but that is probably the opposite of what Idol wants. I thought Megan was horrible & I don’t see how she is current or relative with that performance.

I do not think Adam can with this thing. I noticed when he sang Satisfaction again last night, that his movements, his facial expressions, cocking the head, eyes – they were all the same as the night before. Totally choreographed. Makes sense considering his background, but I think as he continues in that vein, people will grow tired of it, much like they would grow tired of someone who always sings the same type of songs, or who always ends on a glory note.

Kris did earn some bonus points, IMO, with his 2nd performance of Man in the Mirror because his overwhelming joy at making it through was contagious. It was really sweet to see such pure incredulity at his lucky break.

I liked Lil Rounds early on but not I just see her as the typical power belter they have every year. There are tons of good people who they can have in the wildcard round: Anoop, Tatiana train wreck, Matt Giraud, Jesse & Misha. Even Megan, although I thought she was awful.

  • primeminister

I am just really not a fan of Adam…I can’t actually imagine listening to a song by him on the radio or buying his music. He obviously has strong vocal abilities and knows how to sing in tune which is a nice change from many singers this season however I just don’t see it working for me. I don’t see any comparison to The Killers, Panic at the Disco, etc. He sings every song like it’s a broadway performance and needs to tone it down.

Glad that Allison made it, and I was surprised about Kris, but he’s a cutie and I guess we’ll see soon if he can really sing. The top 12 performance night is going to be so important for all of these unknowns, those who have a lot of backstory and screen time singing during Hollywood are at a huge advantage.

I was so happy to hear Brooke was going to perform her single…then I heard it. It was really disappointing. It was so sleepy and did not really have any hook. I love the folk sound but this was not a great song. Hopefully her album has more to offer.

  • Fender

Totally expected Adam & Allison, and they earned it in my opinion. I liked Kris, and he was definitely the next best guy, but I would have preferred Jesse or Misha to get the spot (though I knew that was a futile hope).

The thing with the past couple years – for the most part, when someone was eliminated, it was fair-ish. I mean, even Michael & Carly last year, who I thought were overly criticized by the judges at times, got plenty of chances, and you could see they made some mistakes. Though I may have wanted them to stay longer, I had a pretty good idea of what they were capable of, and could understand why they got voted out. Not so this year. The show is just leaving me feeling unsatisfied – I really, really want to hear more from Jesse, Misha, & Anoop. Heck, maybe even Megan or Matt G (Maybe). It just feels so unresolved and is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the Top 12 so far either… I like Alexis & Adam, am interested but have reservations about Allison & Kris, and have no desire to hear anything else from Michael or Danny. Damn, I can’t believe the way this season is turning out…

I hope the producers take votes/iTunes downloads into account when they are picking wildcards. Even though they seem to think their opinions are always right (even when everyone else disagrees), I can only hope the dollar$ can sway their opinions away from their pre-determined favorites if warranted.

  • leome

Sumidol, thanks for bringing that. Actually, I think that was pretty good. Much more than just meh. Better than Jason’s, cause it seems Kris has a much better voice.
Kris can go far in this competition.

You know.. I was so sad to see Matt G go.

But he did not deserved the top 12 spot based on his last performance.
    Not good.

I hope he gets at least one more shot, just to see what he does.
I mean the guy is talented, that Hollywood performance of “Georgia” just blew me away. He has soul with he right song.
I just think he doesn’t really know who he is as an artist and that cost him big time. If he gets another chance from the judges he needs to figure himself out.

Hope to see him next Thursday. But I won’t get my hopes up.

Anyways, I like Adam. He has a great range and a great personality. He seems sweet too. I hope he goes far. He is million times more likable than Danny. JMHO.

So I guess now that Matt G is out of the picture, I am joining the Adam train. His “Satisfaction” performance was awesome.

I thought the production values of this results show were a lot better than last weeks. The final “showdown” between Adam and Nick was silly, but pulling out larger groups worked better.

Delighted that Kris made it thru. Particularly without allowing instruments, it is easy for more low-key singers (whose music I would actually buy) to get underrated in the face of big belters and glory note specialists (whose music I would not).

I would have liked to have seen Jesse in over Allison — love her tone and demeanor. Really hope she a wild-carder. They need some more women. If they select Tatiana over her for the wild card, this show will be dead to me.

Yeah, as a former owner of a Persian cat I was half-expecting him to produce a hair ball on stage.

On losing interest in AI8 ( a seemingly common theme in this thread):

For me, it will depend on who gets through next week and, of course, wild cards. As of now, there is little that interests me.

This week I was really hoping for Megan…until I heard her sing….

Next week I’m looking forward to Felicia, assuming she can bring what I saw on YouTube to the Idol stage.

My pipe dream for wild cards would be Jesse, who just came out of literally no where this week, and Tatiana, because I honestly think they delivered the best vocals in their respective weeks. Those two performances were the only two iTunes songs I purchased, or, given the way this is trending, likely will this year.

In all honesty, I liked Alexis more when she was the cute little southern mom, prior to her “dirty” Idol transformation.

Hey PURPLE – Hi – ditto on the Megan and the Kai, maybe one will get a wildcard?

  • progression

I wouldn’t pick up the phone to vote for Adam, but if I was going out with friends and we had to choose between a Danny Gokey show and an Adam Lambert show, it would be Adam hands down (pun intended). I can’t see him as a recording artist, but he is entertaining.

IMO, the girls got robbed with Kris making it through (Jesse! ::sob::), but I did like his performance last night much better than the one he gave on performance night.

So, anyone think Lil Rounds will perform last next week?

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Kai was a snoozefest. I still like his voice and look, but his performance was boring and a little skeevy. In this format, he has no chance to redeem himself. He will not get a wildcard.

ETA: Where were all the Jesse fans Wed night during the voting? Sigh.

ETA: Where were all the Jesse fans Wed night during the voting? Sigh

I can only speak for myself. I was running the Dial Idol software on my computer modem and tallied 476 votes for Jesse during the two hour voting period.

If you look at Jesse’s Dial Idol score it was roughly half of Allison’s and a third of Adam’s, quite a good score, all things considered. That is three times Mishavonna’s score and nearly ten times Jeanine’s.

But, Jesse was facing a very steep slope

    1. She had almost no back story or Hollywood face time prior to the sing off. For example, I didn’t even know she had a child until Wednesday.

    2. Allison supposedly “blew it out o’ da box”, or so we were instructed by the judging panel and that kind of promotion is very hard to supersede for anyone.

    3. Jesse’s performance was pretty much dismissed by the judges, save Paula.

    Too little, too late.

Oh well. I hope she gets another chance.

Jesse seems like she would be full of snark. I think that’s why I like her.

I love Adam and Im happy he made it and the red headed 16 year old? I like her as well but puleeeezeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Kris??? Dear god, and another holy person to add to the already cannonized roster of church people?Crap, somebody must think I need to be saved and badly.

    :devil_tb:

I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stop laughing about being saved, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a good one. I do like Kris and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m glad that he made it. But I also wonder why the producers chose an enormous amount of church people this season. Do they do this every year? Or is there a new producer fiddling around?

At least we have diversity, thanks to Adam.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Sumidol! what is it with the god theme this year? I hafta say, Adam has a great voice, I like him a lot and right now, for the moment he’s my guy. I threw quite a few votes his way after I had finished voting for Nick. Um, I could do without the image of Joshus in my head from that vid though.

Im still unbelieveably bummed over Nick, Adam is my last hope for drama but I sure will miss the laughter. But there is that wack job of a kid thats in the next group, I think he’s gay too and I dont care but christ, lots of gay guys this year. Maybe thats why they’re tryin’ ta save us lol.

And why she doesn’t stand a chance with Idol voters. She’s definitely got a smart aleck attitude going on there. I love it, but many Idols viewers? Not so much.

“Too cool for school” doesn’t go down well on Idol. Just ask Chris Sligh.

Season 6 was chock full of church people: Jordin, Melinda, Phil and Chris are all devout conservative Christians.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Is there somethin’ goin’ on with Adam’s tongue I should know about? I read something about an extention. You can DO that? Wow, can ya buy these things? Im not in the dating scene these days but one never knows.

I was in hibernation that year but sheesh, ahm startin’ ta get a complex. Maybe its me. I aint never seen so many christians in all my life. They’re takin over the world!

Oh calm down, they need to save and I need to be saved. Its all good.

Kris did earn some bonus points, IMO, with his 2nd performance of Man in the Mirror because his overwhelming joy at making it through was contagious. It was really sweet to see such pure incredulity at his lucky break.

YES! I agree with this wholeheartedly. Even though the vocals weren’t as good as the night before, I almost felt as if it was a different song and enjoyed seeing his personality come forth as he sang it last night.

I can’t personally compare Kris and Archie. Even though I’ve come to realize otherwise, Archie’s humbleness on the show almost seemed fake to me last yr., whereas Kris’s humbleness was raw and real imho. (hee, see what I did there? ;) ) I’m very excited that he in is the top 12! I also believe he has a singer/songwriter vibe to him as someone mentioned above.

Also, a couple peeps asked about the Michael Buble (sp?) song from Hollywood. I don’t think it’s available. I searched some on the tube last night and didn’t find anything. Perhaps it wasn’t approved to be shown…too bad.

In addition, some have mentioned TPTB need for a pretty blond in top 12. What about Kristen and Kendall who are coming up next week? They’re both blond and country (right?), which there is not anyone representing that genre yet…

Also, I’m quite sad because I can see due to lack of diversity so far, there is no way Ricky and Jesse can make the top 12, even if they make the wildcard round..:(.

This sums it up for me. I love this blog! But Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m losing patience with the show. I remember back in 2006 when everyone in my office was glued to American Idol and it was real water-cooler conversation. I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the only one who still watches it at all.

That’s why I’m posting on this blog. My main board used to talk about American Idol every year. There has been no posts about the show at all this year. Zip. It’s all about Lost, Biggest Loser, etc.

At work, no one is watching it. They’re done.

I don’t know why, but the one I’m looking forward to next week is Nathaniel. He’s my last hope. (other than some Wild Card picks) I thought his version of Disturbia was pretty terrific despite his occasional whining off and on stage.

Someone mentioned The Killers. MCR, and Panic. That kind of music is the bread and butter of my ipod. I still don’t think Adam’s brand of theatricality is rooted in alt. rock rhythms thus far. His Believe and Satisfaction contained rhythmic ritards in the verses in order to vamp the melody. It was a cabaret style version.

Every time I see one of last year’s idols after watching the new crop, I say to myself, “boy, last year’s idols were good!!”

Dingo you are funny, I remember everyone being happy you were back on here at the end of last year and now I can see why

I really liked her too, and I agree with this 100%. Did you see how quickly DC learned to dial back the snark after Simon threw a hissy fit? Too bad Jesse probably won’t get the chance to learn that lesson with this one-shot (unless you’re a judge’s/producer’s pet) to the top 12 format.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

I could see Jesse returning and I wouldnt be mad at all. Pj – I want Megan back, I do and For my purpleness I would like to see Kai back but I dont see that happenin much either, sorry purple! He is very nice to look at isnt he??

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/iamthepurplewalrus purplesmile

I am not holding my breath on a wildcard spot for Kai, pj and sumi (it was good while it lasted). I am for Megan, though. Next week, I hope Felicia Barton does not disappoint and Alex blows us away. Heh.

I had a weird dream about Danny Gokey last night. I was at work on my computer and he (and a couple of others) came up to me and he asked something like whether I make my purchases online in dollars or in pesos (my local currency). I said in pesos but qualified that of course sometimes I have to purchase in dollars, too. I thereafter turned my back on him to go back to work and he just took off with my purse that was on my table, running from the room. Hah! So much distrust for Danny, eh? LOL :p

I aint never seen so many christians in all my life. Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re takin over the world!

Actually, no. We were informed yesterday that 22 Christian missionaries were scheduled for execution in Afghanistan today. But, that aside, I whole-heartedly agree that the AI crew will exploit any aspect of a contestant’s life to achieve their desired outcome.

This conservative Christian thinks Adam Lambert probably is the most gifted competitor to ever grace the AI stage. I don’t know his most personal beliefs or private actions — nor do I assume what they are or care to know, but I sure do enjoy his God-given talents.

My 5 all-time AI faves are Clay, Elliott, Chris Sligh, Jason, and now Adam. The fact that three were self-described Christians was an unexpected bonus, but I actually watch AI for the God-given talent and despite the disturbing cynical exploitation.

  • oceana

I was very disappointed that Kris made it through after that really awful Man in the Mirro. He seems very kareoke, and Megan and Jesse were much better. I hope they both make it to the 12 but doubtful.

  • lovegoodmusic

MJ : Thank you for answering me.

Amazing, and this particular group you mentioned were really good in season six.
And as long as they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sing inspirational songs every week, I will vote for them no matter what type of religion the contestants associate themselves with.

    Terrie:

Oh that is really sad, and my heart goes out to them and their loved ones.

    >>Actually, no. We were informed yesterday that 22 Christian missionaries were scheduled for execution in Afghanistan today.>>

Its a dangerous world out there. bad shit happens. I dont suspect they will find many converts in Afghanistan.

    >>This conservative Christian thinks Adam Lambert probably is the most gifted competitor to ever grace the AI stage.>>

This pagan thinks otherwise. I have to wait and see if he is in the top 10 on my list. I’ll let ya know. I like him, I dont love him yet.

    >>but I actually watch AI for the God-given talent and despite the disturbing cynical exploitation.>>

You cant be exploited unless you allow yourself to be. I rather enjoy the dark side of Idol.
