It’s getting close to that time again, kids.   The new season of American Idol is just around the corner…

Reader sumidol was kind enough to post an internal FOX memo in comments!   And it’s got the deets on the start of the brand-new season of American Idol.

Season 8 will kick off   with a 2-night, 4-hour season premiere on January 13 and 14.   The following week, it moves into its regular Tuesday 8:00 pm and Wednesday 8:00 pm time slots beginning January 20 and 21.

I’m ready for it.   Are you ready for it?

Now all we need are some spoilers!   Hollywood Week should be happening within in the next couple of weeks if the schedule is the same as it has been the past couple of seasons.

Got a tip?   Send it to mjsbigblog at gmail dot com thnx

    I’m ready!

Although I’m also readying myself for disappointment……it simply cannot be nearly as good as Season 7 was. But then again, that’s what I said after Season 5.

Oh I am SOOOOOOOOO ready for a new season. And I speculate they are doing things a bit differently if they are returning to hour long episodes after the first week. Wasn’t it the 2 hours episodes and sometimes three times a week during the ‘audition’ episodes last year???? I SO hope they shorten up the audition episodes and give us more of Hollywood week, indcluding EQUAL AIRTIME for those that end up in the top 24. Yeah, I won’t hold my breath!

Here is last year’s schedule. It’s the same. I’d love if they cut the auditions, but I can’t see that happening. It’s where they get some of their highest ratings.

  • MrsTrep

Thanks mj…. dang. I was hoping it was different in the hopes for a new ‘pre top 24′ format! BUMMER!

    Bring it on!

I am not hardly gonna criticize at the moment. I will save the snark for when the season begins. I love this cheesy ass show, can’t wait for the games to begin. I have my favorite seasons, but I always look forward to the next.

The question is: Can I do this again?? Eighth time???!! Ok, well, of course I can. What the hell else is on anyway?

I’m going to be honest and say I’m not sure if I’m ready, not sure if I’m going to do it this year. I feel like after all these years I finally have “my” idol, and maybe I’m done.

On the other hand, my older son (8.5) started watching with me somewhere around top 10 last season and it was a nice little bonding time for us. He got to stay up late and learn to text message, both of which he was totally psyched about. It was an opportunity for me to start teaching him some appreciation and criticism skills, and heck, it was nice to have company because as soon as my husband would hear the theme music he couldn’t get himself out of the room fast enough! Little guy really wants to watch it form the beginning next time, but I think we’ll skip any of the usual audition footage making fun of the mentally ill and developmentally disabled and jump in at Hollywood week at the very earliest.

    If we watch…

    I’m ready.
I’m trying to stay open minded about season 8.
I really enjoyed season 5 then found s/6 a let down and for me, s/7 was another great one so………we’ll see but i’ll definitely be watching at least the start.

  • cruzceleste

I kind of want next season to suck, just so the producer value more how great talent they had in this year Top 10…well,I guess another season is worth it,if it mean more Sleazak Idolatry, Cantiello ´s 60 seconds and Vulture comments…I don ´t love this cheesy show as much as I love the sarcastic reviews from the performance….

    ughg mj-

i was supposed to be meeting one of the cousins who they showed make it to hollywood for S6 this saturday- and she made it to hollywood AgAiN this year and i was guna ask her when it was, but the event we were gunna be at got cancelled!!!!!…poo, i was so excited to drill her with questions for u too :-( .

oh well, spoiler season is always one of my favorite parts!

  • sabby_rina

I don’t know if I want to watch the next season. I don’t want to get attached again to the contestants. lol But I dunno… I’ll watch a bit of it.

  • itsalleternal

A good thought if they want to have so many audition episodes: run them 3 nights a week during the audition periods. That way, it flows faster and we still see more Hollywood.

Karen LE67 – that is exactly how I felt the past two years with my younger kids, especially my son Dallas. We had the same favorite in Daughtry/Elliot and then this past year I was a Jason and He a David A but it IS a fun bonding time with your kids. Also, my sister Donna and I live thousands of miles away from each other and thru our dorky Idol time together we are in touch all the time rooting on our favorites. This year we FINALLY had the same favorite. I cant wait for the fun to begin again. I found MJ’s last year towards the end of the show so this year will be even better!!!

  • Grammie Kari

sumidol, I am sure MJ appreciates the compliment. It has been a pleasure posting with you on a few blogs.

Karen LE67 and sumidol, what I have done for my Grandchildren is tape the show without the commericals and watch it with them the next day. I did edit out the extremely bad auditions and comments. It’s cute that they know the Idols’ names when seeing their pictures.

Ok look. After s5 (which I loved), I sat thru s6 and was extremely disappointed. I almost did not watch s8, but figured what the heck, nothing else is on. Boy the kicking I would be giving myself now if I had skipped this past season! However, that being said, now I feel no other season can top s7. But I will still watch b/c Seacrest has some kind of magical powers I guess. Oh, and Cook will be sure to make at least ONE appearance so there’s always that.

  • cooktard76

Obviously I meant, I almost did not watch s7, doh!
