Amid all the changes and uncertainty in the Idol world right now, the cattle-call auditions for American Idol 10 continued today in East Rutherford, NJ.

According to reports, 17,000 Idol hopefuls packed the Izod Center in East Rutherford today to audition for the opportunity to sing for Idol producers.  Hopefuls who pass the producers round, will perform in front of  the judges’ panel in September, the members of which are still unknown.

“It’s incredible how many people turned out,” Ryan Seacrest said from inside the auditions, “Among 17,000 people, there has to be some jewels we can take back to Hollywood with us.”

Broadcasting from inside the Izod center, Ryan told his KIIS FM audience it could be weeks before the uncertainty over the show’s new judges finally comes to an end.

Season 4 Idol, Constantine Maroulis was on hand to talk to the crowd.

After the jump, check out a FOX26 news report from outside the Izod.

5,000-7,000 new 15 year olds? Lots of unemployed people? Interesting.

I hope there’s at least one low-key white guy with a guitar

    And he’ll probably win.
I found my guitar guy in season 8, so I don’t really care for another one.

Hopefully a Kelly Clarkson will win or at least goes to top 3.

Ken Warwick has learned his lesson about WGWG. There have been reports of some very good WGWG being turned away. I don’t think he will allow one get anywhere near the voting rounds.

No WGWG – well I wont be watching anymore!!! Just kidding, I like my WGWG types (well except for this last season)so if another one wins I’m ok with that.

Cowell once said that the show is “cast,” in that they don’t want to load the deck with too many people who have similar styles. I like good acoustic guitar music (thank you, Crystal), but as a TV show, Idol needs variety. Season 8 was great: Kris, Adam, Allison, Matt, Anoop, Scott, and Lil (before she lost her mojo) all brought something different to the stage. It was fun to watch each week.
