American Idol Ratings Drop Again

Nielsen fast overnight ratings from Marc Berman:

As for American Idol, the 90-minute telecast averaged an approximate 23.46 million viewers and an 8.6/22 among adults 18-49, with the half-hour breakdown as follows:

American Idol (Fox)
8:00 p.m. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Viewers: 21.37 million (#1), A18-49: 7.6/22 (#1)
8:30 p.m. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Viewers: 25.34 million (#1), A18-49: 9.2/24 (#1)
9:00 p.m. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Viewers: 23.67 million (#1), A18-49: 9.0/22 (#1)

That’s down 10% from last Wednesday’s performance show that averaged 25.60 million viewers and a 9.1 rating/24 share.

Season 7, the Top 9 averaged 26.1M viewers and 9.6/26 in the demo.

Update: New numbers that excise the 5 minutes of that horrid Osbourn special that surely had viewers reaching for their remotes:

  American Idol (86 minutes)
- 24.410 million viewers
- 13.7/21 HH
- 8.9/23 A18-49

    It’s funny because normally the numbers will go up progressively as the show goes on, but last night it took a dip around 9pm, it’s got to be because of DWTS right?

    not bad… it should go up a bit when finals are released because this includes 5 minutes of the Osbournes disaster.

    That’s because it was the day before April Fools Day. Totally understandable, everyone was getting their pranks ready.

    Isn’t 9:00 pm when “The Mentalist” begins on CBS? I really like this show and tried finding it online, but couldn’t. Unless I’m missing something CBS isn’t putting up full EPs, at least the last time I looked…IDK, could be a combo of this and DWTS.

    Last week, folks must have tuned in for Gordy, Robinson, and Motown. This week, no one had any idea of what the show would be, and an hour in, they were certain it wouldn’t be good what with Gokey and Mac getting such high praise for mediocre music. ;-)

    Last night when I was doing my usual power voting after AI was over I kept FOX station on. Let me tell you that the new Osborne show was atrocious. Reality tv has really gotten bad. :shock_ee:

    Since the new Osbourne show was mentioned, while AI was on last night, a message scrolled across the TV screen here basically saying because of the type of audience that AI typically attracts and the questionable content of this new show, that our station was not going to air it. Instead, we got a special news segment that aired during that 35-minute time frame and then the regular 10pm news aired afterward.
