Nielsen fast overnight ratings from Marc Berman:

American Idol opened the evening for Fox with a healthy 21.99 million viewers and a 7.8 rating/22 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. But as good as that is, last year it averaged a beefier 22.67 million viewers and a 9.2/14 in the demo (on Tuesday, April 8, 2008). Since about eight additional minutes of American Idol bled into the 9 p.m. half-hour, results for the return of Fringe at 9 p.m. (Viewers: #3, 11.48 million; A18-49: #1, 4.5/11) are approximate.

The ratings are down from last Tuesday: 23.67 million; A18-49: #1, 9.0/22, which included the first few minutes of The Osbournes.

Hmmm, are dvrs somehow included in ratings? If not is this a possible wave of the future? The reason I’m asking is because based on a comment in the predictions thread it seems people are still participating in the voting process even though they watch on their dvrs.

Well, and to know answer my own question, perhaps not because the all important commercials are skipped. But then how is this any different than my household muting the commercials and doing other things during them? LOL.

I had high hopes for this season at the beginning of year, but predict that the ratings will continue to spiral down because even a 5th grader watching for the first time can tell who the top two are going to be because the judges/lighting/singing order/band continue to reinforce this week after week.

This show is just plain predictable now — and not because of the contestants.

I guess Taylor winning really did scare the heck out of ai ptb.

I wouldn’t call the coroner just yet. Still over 20 million viewers and the #1 show in the country? I wouldn’t worry about it too much. The show’s not going to be canceled anytime soon. Also, this being the week before Easter, lots of families are on vacation.
