American Idol Producer Developing A Cappella Reality Series

19 Entertainment is developing a show about competing college a cappella groups, following the success of movie, Pitch Perfect, according to Deadline:

So American Idol producer 19 Entertainment and its parent company CORE Media Group have signed an exclusive deal with Varsity Vocals, the collegiate a cappella organization that organizes the International Championship of A Cappella, to develop a show built around the competition and the college students who participate in it.

There isn’t much detail about what the show will be exactly, but from the brief description, it does NOT sound like a competition reality show, a la The Sing-Off (returning to NBC at holiday time) which casts all types of a cappella groups, including the college variety, to compete for a prize.

The 19E show seems to be a straight up reality show, that documents various groups preparing for and performing in competitions. Which could be fascinating. Or not. We’ll see.
