Over 9,000 hopefuls descended upon Amway Arena in Orlando today to audition for a chance to move on to the next rounds of the American Idol season 9 auditions.

Only about an estimated 200 made it through to sing for producers. Even fewer will move on to sing in front of the judges panel later on this summer.

Our SarahW was there today to audition, preparing “Killing Me Softly” and   “I’m Yours” to sing for the panel, but unfortunately didn’t make the cut.   Sarah, although feeling butterflies as she waited for her section to be called, still managed to twitter some deets.

The crowd song was supposed to be “Poker Face”, but   learned “Heartbreaker” instead.   Justin Guarini was on site conducting interviews for TV Guide, the crowd chanted “I’m going to Disney World” and “Simon don’t be a heartbreaker” for the cameras, and she estimates that 7 guys and 6 girls who were Disney dream ticket winners made it through to the next round.

Also, as far as the 2nd and 3rd round auditions, I’m hearing that they are going to be held in the restaurant in the Contemporary resort at Disney World. The date booked for the 2nd round (producers round) is July 22-24. The 3rd round (judges round) is booked for some time in August.

Why would I lie? If I’d made it past the first round, I would have tweeted it. I was cut.

  • itsalleternal

I thought they weren’t allowed to mention it if you made it? That really sucks Sarah!!!!! (I wish I could hear you to make my own judgement, but I am sure you are amazing)

Sorry, Sarah, but thanks for making the effort. You did us all proud! :)

Ditto what suebrody said Sarah. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, but I’m hella proud of you for trying. Big Hugs.

Ditto…after all, something special may happen eventually…even Colbie Caillat couldn’t get out of the first round of Idol when she tried…

I’m sorry Sarah, but I agree with the others. All kinds of major props for trying. And hugely impressed that you tried AND took us along for the ride! Takes guts girl, and you’ve got ‘em. That’s for damn sure!! You should be very proud.

I auditioned too. I was in the 2nd-to-last group so I have to wait for 15 hours to audition. Ugh. But it was a great experience. Met a LOT of really cool people. Four of them made it thru to the next round!!! I’m not good with names but they were Tall Colombian Kid, Big Black Dude, Big Black Dude’s friend and Cheeto Guy (he was in my group, he loves his cheetos!)

I was also able to see a lot of good auditions from my end. Most notably, there was a skinny white dude with faux-hawk that Debra Byrd loved, so look out for that one. And a hairy dude who sang fantastic, his wife didn’t make it thru but gave him the sweetest kiss/hug combo I’ve seen. Awwwwww.

A lot of bad people, obviously, made it thru too but I won’t go too in depth w/ that, Dave from VFTW is going to use my recap! W00t!

I’ll try to post some more info in this thread later, describing some of the people I DID see make it. At lunch right now and posting from my phone, do it’s kinda hard to type. Haha. :)
