It’s time, once again for America’s teens to get their dialing fingers set to vote for their favs in entertainment on the FOX Teen Choice awards, airing on August 10 at 8 pm.

Twilight and its cast lead this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pack of TEEN CHOICE 2009 nominees with 12 nominations (expect them to clean up). High School Musical 3: Senior Year and its cast, Miley Cyrus and Gossip Girl and its cast each scored 10 nominations, while American Idol received seven nominations.

Teens ages 13-19Â   can vote once a day for their faves.Nominated to receive the coveted Surfboard Awards are Adam Lambert and Kris Allen vying for Choice TV Male Reality/Variety Star. Adam is also up for Choice Red Carpet Icon: Male.

American Idol is nominated in the Choice TV: Reality Competition and Choice Music: Tour categories.   Also nominated in the tour category are Demi Levato and David Archuleta and the Jonas Brothers (Jordin Sparks is their opener) both tours set to hit the road this summer.

Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell are both nominated in the Choice TV: Personality category. Simon for American Idol and Ryan for American Idol and E! News.

UPDATE: I missed a bunch of the music categories: David Archuleta and David Cook for Choice Breakout Artist. David Archuleta’s “Crush” for Choice Love Song,   David Cook‘s David Cook for Choice Music Album (Male), Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride for Choice Music Album (Female), Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” for Choice Music Single,   Jennifer Hudson for Choice Music R&B Artist and Choice Music R&B Track for “This Isn’t Love”.

Last year, when   David Cook was the only Idol nominated in the Male Reailty/Variety star category, David Archuleta fans pelted the producers with complaints until they finally created a special award just for David–”Most Fanatical Fans”–capitulating to the annoying fans while tweaking them at the same time. Heh.

Note that this year, the producers shrewdly nominated both the winner and runner up.   Now, there will be a race between fangroups to see who can vote their fav to the top. And yes, there will be fans who aren’t teens who participate. That’s Idol fandom for ya.

After the jump, check out the full list of nominees in Idol related categories.

    You mean I have to choose between Zac Efron and Adam Lambert for Red Carpet Icon??!! That’s impossible! I love them both SO much!!!!

    And yup, I am not a teen. Sometimes I am just one at heart. ;)

    Choice Music: Tour
    American Idol
    Jonas Brothers
    Demi Lovato / David Archuleta

    Taylor Swift

    Aww, I’ll vote for Archie because I think he’s adorable but Demi Lovato really kills my buzz. He needs to be in a category all by himself.

    fyi,
    david cook is nominated in the “Music Album Male Artist” and “Music: Breakout Artist” categories

    david archuleta is nominated in the “Music: Breakout Artist” and “Music: Love Song” (for Crush) categories in addition to the mentioned “Music Tour” (with Demi Lovato)

    jennifer hudson is nominated in the “Music: R&B Artist ” and “Music: R&B Track” (for If This Isn’t Love) categories

  • Squirrely

    eh – I don’t care who wins this – I can never sit through this show past the red carpet let alone the show. But I guess it’s still an honor no matter who wins it.

  • Lemon_C

    Does it mean we finally got to know who got the most teen votes on the show now? hehe
    ~~~~~~~~Just kidding~~~~~~~~~
    I thinks either Kris or Adam is gotta take the award in their category. Congrats!
  • tomsuzuki
    also (sorry editing isn’t working for me at the moment)
    kelly clarkson for “Music: Single” (for My Life Would Suck Without You)
    and
    carrie underwood for “Music Album Female Artist”
  • girlygirl
    I read that this show tapes on August 9th…the Idol tour has a concert scheduled in Newark, NJ that night. So unless they skip the tour date, it doesn’t look like Kris and Adam would be able to go to this show…even if they won
  • AC
    Okay, as a Kris fan in her 20s I can’t bring myself to sign up for this and vote. So go fanatical Adam fans! hehe..
    Adam fan in her 30′s here, I can’t do it either – I have a strong feeling though that Kris may have this one in the bag. I’ll wait for the Grammy’s and AMA’s for Adam – not that I can vote in those or anything
    Trust me, it will be done. It is being done even now as we speak.
    The one thing you can say for Idol fans– they are ardent devotees of the electoral process. Even if that electoral process more resembles the sort that was run in Mayor Daley’s Chicago or Tammany Hall.
    ah, if it was only the Idol fandom. From what I’ve seen in the web Twilight fandom (especially Robert Pattinson) is full of older fans. It’s craaaaazzyyy.
    I usually like these shows for the red carpet and the pictures. But it looks like some idols will miss it… including Adam and Kris. booo
  • girlygirl
    I’m a gawky adolescent at heart (ask any of my friends or co-workers – LOL)…does that mean I can vote?
  • Tess
    Choice Music: Breakout Artist
    David Archuleta
    David Cook
    Kid Cudi
    Now I’m definitely staying away from the Cookie & Archie fansites. This may get nasty even though they now profess to love one another after the “Thrilla in Manilla”.
  • suebrody
    This one sort of surprised me:
    Choice Red Carpet Icon: Male
    Zac Efron
    Jonas Brothers
    Adam Lambert
    Justin Timberlake
    Kanye West
    What an interesting list of candidates! I guess they are all just really popular with the teens/tweens, but the Jonas Brothers going up against Kanye? LOL Of course, I am voting for Adam. :) (I kind of thought Kris would end up here instead, but what do *I* know? I’m not a teen!)
  • Sunn
    I can tell you right now I’m not voting for this. My dignity can only take so much self-flagellation for Adam’s sake. Lol!!
    I do hope he wins though. Adam FTW. Oh, and Simon too.
    Very true. We are talking about fans who will buy software that allows them to vote in multiple time zones for eight straight hours here. I cannot even imagine any of the non-Idol related nominees standing a chance in this category.
    Also, Brody Jenner? Seriously, teens?
  • smartcookie
    My cat is a teen, but he’s a JoeBros lover so I told him he couldn’t vote. He thinks “tuna” should be in every category, anyway.
    ITA. Both have fans across all age-groups, but I believe Adam has far more in the teen/tween groups. This is the age of Twilight after all.
    And that is perfectly fine with me. The tweenyboppers can have Adam. I’d rather Kris not have any association whatsoever with other tweeny stars like Miley Cyrus and company. I’ve had just about enough Archie being associated with Disney as I can handle.
    Yep, I think so too. Still you never know, the Archies might pull this one out. That is some STIFF competition though, they all have crazy fanbases.
    I think its a fun award show, not to be taken too seriously. Let the kids have their fun, people!
  • lakhesis
    Haha I’m only 20 myself… but I have this feeling that a large crowd of older-than-teens folk love Adam and the teens are going for Kris.
    But either way… it would be pretty spectacular for Adam to take another award.
  • girlygirl
    I think the Jonas Brothers could give Taylor Swift a run for her money. Don’t all the tween girls love the Jonas Brothers? That’s what I’ve been led to believe.
  • Akatot
    Why don’t the Kris and Adam fans join forces — vote Kris for Male Reality/Variety Star and Adam for Red Carpet Icon: Male — then they can be each other’s date? :biggrin_wp:
    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d rather Kris not have any association whatsoever with other tweeny stars like Miley Cyrus and company. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve had just about enough Archie being associated with Disney as I can handle.
    I’m not sure Adam having more young fans means they won’t market Kris to teens though. The signing press release gave the impression they see him as having a broad appeal and I think his style is definitely more for 20-somethings and older. But it wouldn’t shock me if they tried to go the teen/Disney route, though I really pray they don’t.
  • snuffles
    Between Cook vs. Archie and Adam vs. Kris, I predict a fan war voting bloodbath.
    Unbelieveable the company Adam is in for the Red Carpet Icon. Don’t know about Kanye, but all those guys are THE IT guys today. Where is Rob Pattinson? He is another IT guy.
  • Tess
    Where is Rob Pattinson?
    But he is so funny looking with the wide spaced eyes and the overly flat nose.
    Bet he shows up a lot in the actor catergories…since we don’t have those listed on the thread.
  • Sunshinegirl
    But it wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t shock me if they tried to go the teen/Disney route, though I really pray they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t.
    Bite your tongue! LOL! :biggrin_wp: No I really doubt they’d have any sort of Disney type of promo for Kris. At least for Archie, it was more understanable since he is a teenager. Kris is older though and definitely has a more 20s and 30s young adult appeal. I can’t even imagine how they would reconcile his current sound with a Disney marketing strategy. They would have to change him completely from what he said he wants to do. If they did that, I think it would be a HUGE failure and career killing. I don’t think Kris is nearly as teen appealing as a lot of people might think. Sure, he’s cute, but he’s more laid back, totally not a dancey type of pop star that all those kids love. Adam fits that way more than Kris does.
  • tinawina
    Between Cook vs. Archie and Adam vs. Kris, I predict a fan war voting bloodbath.
    Heh. Don’t forget Adam vs Archie and Cook vs Kris. Not to mention Adam vs Clay, Archie vs Allison vs Kris (Battle of the Jive artists), Daughtry vs Cook vs Kelly (battle of the RCA pop rockers).. etc etc. Gotta love idol fans.
    Fall should be really interesting around here. :thumbup_tb:
    Just because you can doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mean you should.
    Well, I’ll leave that up to the fans personal choice whether or not to do it.
  • CindyM
    The teens and preteens in my sister’s midschool classes, she’s a teacher, were ALL about Kris and his cuteness. There were a few Adam fans, but heavily outnumbered by the Kris fans. That’s one school, but to say that Kris doesn’t have as large a tween/teen fanbase as Adam strikes me as an elitism that I don’t think exists. Also, since that age group doesn’t seem to lack for discretionary music buying funds, I don’t think either of them would cry over attracting that demographic.
    Me neither. However, I just read a comment on another thread that said Adam has a thread for the TCA…Are there a lot of teens on his website?
  • Squirrely
    Adam and Disney just don’t fit
  • girlygirl
    Nah, I wouldn’t vote. I’d lose what little dignity I still have!
    I was reading that the awards are actually decided by some committee, though — not by the voting. The fan voting is just to keep your fave from being eliminated from consideration? I guess the committee eliminates whoever has the fewest votes in each category?
    So these awards are just decided by some panel or committee? WTF is up with that? They can just pick whoever they want — no matter who gets the most votes?
    And I can admit I’m totally out of the loop with the whole “Twilight” phenom? I haven’t read the books or seen the movie(s). So I barely know who Robert Pattinson is — even though I see him plastered all over the cover of various magazines when I go to the newstand.
    Vampires haven’t been my thing since I used to watch reruns of “Dark Shadows” when I was a little kid — anyone remember that show?
  • 77amy77
    No I really doubt theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d have any sort of Disney type of promo for Kris.
    Yeah, I don’t think they’ll do any actual Disney promos, but the teen angle does still worry me… There is no reason for them to go that way. Kris’s style is too much laid back, singer-songwriter to really work for teens. The only factor that might say them is his look. But in just the past few months – i.e. from SF MITM to post-Idol – I think he’s gotten much older-looking, and much hotter. He was always cute, but now he’s absolutely gorgeous IMO. Whereas Archie still looks 12…
    Adam’s style fits in with the Twilight scene that’s (worryingly) popular, but I’m not sure they’ll push him in that market either though. I don’t think his music will be ~that teen-friendly…
  • leome
    Let the kids have their fun, people!
    LOL I think the fun is in the act of voting… because the result probably comes from behind the scenes and not who has the most votes…
    Both Adam and Kris have teen fans. The idea the teens don’t care about them just cause they’re older is just unrealistic. Cook has tons of them and he’s as old as Adam and his style is similar to Kris.
    American Idol contestants have all types of fans, even though people like to put fans in boxes.
  • Sunshinegirl
    No they likely would not. And I would not deny Kris has fans in that age group. I think he appeals to many ages as does Adam. Your experience and my experiecne with that age group of Idol fans are obviously polar opposites. So yeah, no one can say for sure who attracts more of that age group…maybe it’s about equal. I actually was surprised to find out how many tweens liked Adam over Kris. I fully expected it to be the opposite, but you just never know what the kids are going to be into these days from one minute to the next.
  • karenw
    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll wait for the Grammyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and AMAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for Adam – not that I can vote in those or anything
    This is how I feel …. whilst the majority of awards (with the exception of things like “fat arse of the year”) are flattering and can be fun .. it’s the big hitter awards that are the important ones… awards won by mass online spamming (where voting rules are easily bypassed) have very little credibility, but I guess they can be entertaining and give the more fanatical fans something to keep themselves occupied with.
    Plus if it means another outing for Adams spectacular stripey pants then I won’t complain …lol
  • girlygirl
    Yeah Archie is easy to fit in with the Disney crowd because he’s still a kid himself. He’s what — 18? And he comes off (and looks) even younger. And the kid is beyond squeaky clean.
    Kris is a very mature 23-year old. He comes across as an adult — a charming, low-key adult with a good sense of humor and a playful side — but definitely as an adult — not a teenager. And his whole musical sensibility isn’t really geared to the tween crowd. The people at 19/Jive would be beyond stupid to try and fit him into the whole Disney thing. And I don’t think Kris would go along with it — going to Disney World to promote the AI Experience is one thing — trying to be a tween dream is another!
  • Jolene
    And I can admit Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m totally out of the loop with the whole à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Twilightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  phenom? I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read the books or seen the movie(s). So I barely know who Robert Pattinson is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  even though I see him plastered all over the cover of various magazines when I go to the newstand.
    Haven’t read the books, but I did see the movie and it was one of the worst paced movies I’ve seen in years. The acting was also very mediocre. After the big hype, I was expecting so much more.
    My favorite TV show is still Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I’m definitely down with the vampire thing, as long as it’s done smartly, without dumbing down for the audience.
    OK, that was major OT, sorry.
  • Sunn
    Me neither. However, I just read a comment on another thread that said Adam has a thread for the TCAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Are there a lot of teens on his website?
    I have no idea.
  • 77amy77
    I was reading that the awards are actually decided by some committee, though à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  not by the voting.
    Apparently there’s a disclaimer that the winner is chosen by TPTB from the top four vote-getters. That’s probably just in case the winner isn’t there or able to receive the award on film, but it basically means they can do what they like. lol.
  • Akatot
    Are there a lot of teens on his website?
    If you meant like the ones who said:
    “I used my hotmail email and then used 1990, 1991, 1992 as a birthday”
    “I put in my son’s birthday (he is 15)”
    “I faked my birthday.”
    “Since Adam makes me feel like a 14 year old all over again I think that will be my age for this award!”
    … then yes! It would be funny if it’s not so pathetic. :lol_wp:
    There’s a thread at Kris’ official now, but can’t tell if any cougars are voting, what with the tepid response to the subject.
  • Sunshinegirl
    going to Disney World to promote the AI Experience is one thing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  trying to be a tween dream is another!
    Exactly. Cook did that Disney World promo thing too but he’s definitely not being promoted as a Disney artist at all.
  • tinawina
    LOL I think the fun is in the act of votingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ because the result probably comes from behind the scenes and not who has the most votesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦
    Yeah, its just the principle of the thing you know? Its meant for the kids. But its not like it matters either way.
    Yeah, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll do any actual Disney promos, but the teen angle does still worry meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ There is no reason for them to go that way. Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s style is too much laid back, singer-songwriter to really work for teens.
    I dunno, it depends on which teens you are talking about. Disney is aimed more at tweens/young teens (up to age 14 I think) and pop radio is aimed at 12-22 (?) something like that. So teens are a big part of the Top 40 audience. I think Kris would do well with some exposure to teenagers, particularly older ones.
  • lola
    If this involves voting like the AI, I’ll give the award to Kris Allen. His fans are too good on making this happen.
  • Sunn
    And I can admit Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m totally out of the loop with the whole à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Twilightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  phenom? I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read the books or seen the movie(s). So I barely know who Robert Pattinson is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  even though I see him plastered all over the cover of various magazines when I go to the newstand.
    The books are good, not great but good. The film is awful.
    Robert Pattinson and Zac Effron are guaranteed to take any category their in. They are to teen girls what catnip is to cats.
  • Squirrely
    I’m so not into this Twighlight stuff. I love the vampire genre – but I’m just not into Twighlight.
  • 77amy77
    I dunno, it depends on which teens you are talking about….I think Kris would do well with some exposure to teenagers, particularly older ones.
    True. Almost every Kris fan I’ve come across is 20-something, and many of them are college students, but I do agree he’d fit in with older-teens too. I think now I’m 26 I tend to generalise a little too much about all teens, even though I would’ve loved Kris back when I was 15/16. As long as they don’t ignore older fans in terms of promotion and, more importantly, don’t alter his music style to make it more teen-pop, I can live with it.
  • cay
    It’s pretty much a “picked” winner, and I’m sure it’s part of the winner’s packet. So Adam fans can vote all they want, I’m sure Kris will win. I wish Allison was the one nominated. She’s be great there. Either way, getting the surfboard or not won’t affect their career.
    I really hope Archie gets one though. He’s so adorable, and I’m glad he’s going strong still. I think he’ll really come into his own with his next album.
  • ladymadonna
    Oh lord, is it surfboard time again? Since the TCA’s are the first “award” show of the post-Idol season, it does indeed become theater of the absurd with giddy middle-aged fans posing as 13 year old girls online just to vote every single day (yes folks – it’s one vote per day from now until August!).
    The most hilarious thing is that the votes don’t even count – I can’t remember the exact language, but there’s some sort of disclaimer that runs during the show credits says the votes identify the top four choices in each category, and then the producers choose the winner from those four. It’s all oh so prestigious (but still fun, I’ll admit, to see the Idols on the red carpet).
  • oceanarose
    I think the Jonas Brothers could give Taylor Swift a run for her money. Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t all the tween girls love the Jonas Brothers? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been led to believe.
    My tween daughter hates the Jonas Brothers and LOVES Taylor Swift. She also loves Adam and I don’t think she’d know who Kris was if she saw a picture of him.
    I don’t see either one of them fitting in the Disney scene and I have a lot of market research in that field (see tween daughter above).
    Read the books, saw the movie-it sucked. The best vampire movie out there is “Let the Right One In”.
    True. Almost every Kris fan Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve come across is 20-something, and many of them are college student, but I do agree heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d fit in with older-teens too.     I’m sure if Adam won .. Drake could use his designing skills to fashion the surfboard into some sort of coffee table .. or Adam could snap it in two and make some sort of Angel wings out of it.
    Not necessarily. I remember in Season 6 both Jordin and Sanjaya were nominated. Jordin lost her category and Sanjaya won his. You would think TPTB would make sure that Jordin the winner of AI would win her award. I mean, she lost to frickin’ LAUREN CONRAD of “The Hills” of all people! And on top of that Jordin had to present the award to her! COLD!
  • Sunshinegirl
    I wish Allison was the one nominated. Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s be great there.
    Definitely! It would be nice to see her there getting a moment to shine.
    My tween daughter hates the Jonas Brothers and LOVES Taylor Swift. She also loves Adam and I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d know who Kris was if she saw a picture of him.
    LOL! Except that she probaly cried her eyes out when Kris won like those teenyboppers on youtube did this year, as they recreated almost the exact same type of freakout video that the famous trio of teen girls from last season did when Cook beat Archie.
  • FanGirlIdol
    Not in my world. Every pre-teen and teenage girl I know or have heard about with regards to Idol Season 8 is LUST with Adam. The peeps I know that are Kris fans are all in their 20s and 30s and above.
    Hey Sunshinegirl, the Adam fans I know here in NYC are in their 20s & 30s. Those tweens of yours have good taste – they recognize awesomeness when they see it. I’m tempted to register as a teen, but I know just like the AI finale, it’ll be all for nothing.
  • girlygirl
    I think fans of either Adam or Kris have fantastic taste — they are very different, but both are great!
  • Sunshinegirl
    As I said before, Adam can have all the tweenyboppers he wants. Regardless of who has more teen/tween fans or whether they have about the same amount, I still think even though Adam is older than Kris, that he’d be easier to market towards the teen/tween age group than Kris since he’s got that flashey/dancey vibe going on that teens squeal about. Kris, on the other hand, has this cool, laid-back college age/young adult vibe going on that I don’t see being very appealing to young teens but maybe older ones as someone previously said.
  • cay
    I’d say Kris, Adam and Allison are very happy to have their teenage fans. They all have very diverse audiences which is great! And all seem to be taking a different approach to their cd. Adam’s may end up appealing to more teens if it’s upbeat and fun. Allison just said in chat her’s is going to be rock. But I bet she’ll have pop rock, up on your feet music that teens like.
    I think it looks good for all Idols to see all the nominations. More credibility. Makes me happy, but I’m still not about to waste my time to vote. Don’t care one bit.
  • Sunshinegirl
    Allison just said in chat herà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s is going to be rock. But I bet sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll have pop rock, up on your feet music that teens like.
    Yeah for sure. No one from Idol will ever be a real hard rock artist. Cook and Daughtry stood the best chance of that of anyone so far, and they ended up as Pop/Rock, Light Rock, Hot AC artists. Idols have to appeal to mainstream to be successful. And since Jive is a pop label and under 19, they will make sure Allison has enough pop to appeal the mainstream radio listeners out there. And I’ll be ready and waiting to buy her CD.
  • SpenserJ
    Well, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll leave that up to the fans personal choice whether or not to do it.
    As long as people understand that if they’re not a teenager and they vote, they’ve pretty much just negated the award. It’s called a Teen Choice Award for a reason – they want the teens to choose. When the uber-invested, long-past-their-teenage-years fans power vote everyday – then they may as well just call it the fraud award.
  • snuffles
    And yet, that STILL won’t stop every AI fan group from voting their little fingers off. :p
  • suebrody
    I’m not voting. I was kidding!!! But, hey, even just to be nominated is going press:
    I care a lot more about what Adam’s album is going to sound like, and it’s looking more and more promising…he’s got some great producers he is going to collaborate with. I don’t know if he plans to co-write any of the tracks; hope so.
  • Layla
    Okay totally OT but…
    My favorite TV show is still Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m definitely down with the vampire thing, as long as ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s done smartly, without dumbing down for the audience.
    Jolene! Buffy and Angel! Hell Yeah!!! Both brilliant shows. Have all the seasons on dvd and STILL enjoy them. You should try the British series “Ultaviolet” and the American seies “Kindred the Embraced” Both are really good but no where near as good as Buffy…or Angel.
  • Ben
    well, when it comes to a poll, Adam will win anyway.
  • Squirrely
    *snort* yes he would
  • al2009atw
    Kris will take this one. Adam appeals to older and more mature crowd. It’s the Teen Choice Award, let the teens have fun. I won’t pretend to be a teen just to vote for Adam. I will support him the right way, by buying his albums and going to his concerts.
  • Jolene
    Thaks for the recs, Layla! Appreciate it. Always good to find a fellow Buffy fan (especially when it’s fandoms colliding, LOL).
    And yet, that STILL wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stop every AI fan group from voting their little fingers off. :p
    Pretty much. For me personally, the fact that the winner isn’t determined by the votes alone, the fact that there are so many categories that nearly no single win will generate any buzz, the fact that this is an award show where over half the awards aren’t even televised… All those things are better reasons to avoid the vote than the set age limit. Why? Because it’s a case of “When in Rome…”, and when every other fanbase is powervoting regardless of actual age, acting “above” it puts you at a disadvantage. It’s not just the crazies and fanatics doing this, as much as you’d like to believe it is, and I won’t bring over quotes from fanboards, cause it’ll never end.
  • abbysee
    I used to watch reruns of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dark Shadowsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  when I was a little kid à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  anyone remember that show?
    I loved that show when I was a kid, and I got my son hooked on it when they reaired it on the Sci-fi channel several years ago. We love vampires! I actually think Jonathan Frid (Barnabas) might actually be a vampire, dude is still alive and kicking!
    Buffy and Angel! Hell Yeah!!! Both brilliant shows. Have all the seasons on dvd and STILL enjoy them.
    Buffy and Angel, now we are talking! Especially Buffy, that show was awesome, layered, and nuanced…..miss it on my teevee. I loved Spike!
    These awards are fun, but pretty meaningless. I would hope that all the fanbases would chill about it, and that older fans from all fanbases would just stay out of it. Yes, I am young at heart, but I refuse to falsify anything to vote, not even for Adam.
  • Calliope
    I think Adam and Kris have their fair share of teens as well as twenty-somethings, thirty-somethings, etc. I find the looking down on tweens just about as annoying as looking down on older fans who are female. It seems us ladies are only worthwhile as fans in our twenties, which I guess is okay for me since my money and presence are still worthy. That’s how it goes though.
    Having said that, since I went by CBS Studios all the time and went to a dress rehearsal, I have to say the teen-scream was loudest for Adam. Kris had his fair share as well with his cheers behind slightly behind Danny’s (his were less tweenlike though). Allison was next in cheers and tweens. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised those were the Top 4 (and I wasn’t).
  • liadultfan
    There is no way a conservative network will let Adam be voted a winner…especially if the judges have the final say.
  • Jolene
    ^^ :blink_tb:
  • golcook
    I agree with you all saying the voting is for the teens, that’s the point, to recieve an award for being the most popular among them.
    But doesn’t matter, the fans are going to vote like crazy, doesn’t matter if it’s a 65 year old granny. You know them, they vote for any poll there is on line, even if it’s from Nigeria or whatever country.
    At last, these awards are meaningless and the show is just annoying (well the teen screaming is).
    Anyway, I still want Cook to win all the categories where he’s nominated, come on teens he’s cool, LOL.
  • undercooked
    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m so not into this Twighlight stuff. I love the vampire genre – but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just not into Twighlight.
    I could see Adam doing a small role on the HBO series “True Blood.” There is a vampire night club and he could sing. I know it’s OT, but I think that would be a good part for him. Plus great actors on there including Anna Paquin.
    As far as the teen awards. I wish Adam was presenting or performing. I’m not up to seeing Miley Cyrus again so I probably won’t watch it but wait for the vids here.
  • cmom
    Well, since I am no longer a teenager and don’t have one in my house, I’m not going to vote. In terms of it being the “Teen Choice” award show and whether or not that reflects the votes of teens, I just have to laugh. It’s just like American Idol. The day American Idol institutes a one vote for one phone/computer ip address, etc., is the day I will believe who is the true “American Idol” or at least the person who represents the Idol-watching demographic or numbers-watching, etc. We all know that power voting ruins any way of knowing who actually comes out on top and I think the last few years have proven that we all know who the “best” are in any given year and it is not always the winner and now after the Davids and Adam/Chris, it can’t be any more clear that there are all kinds of great music and many talented singers/writers/performers out there and I hope they all succeed to the best of their ability. I love both Davids and I love Adam/Chris. I will continue to buy both David’s music and go to their shows and I can’t wait for Adam/Chris and Allison’s music/shows. They are not mutually exclusive and neither are teens/all other ages mutually musically exclusive. Who says a teen can’t like anyone and who says that a “cool” twenty-thirty-something can’t actually appreciate someone still in their teens like Allison or Archuleta? Are we all that age-biased? I hope not.
  • ozarka
    I read that this show tapes on August 9thà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦the Idol tour has a concert scheduled in Newark, NJ that night. So unless they skip the tour date, it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t look like Kris and Adam would be able to go to this showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦even if they won
    I just checked Archie’s tour schedule. Supposedly, he has a show on August 8th, 9th, and 10th. How in the world is he going to make it to the award show if he wins one or more of those surfboards?
    I’m feeling really bummed out now. :down_tb:
  • alxsavage
    It is a real shame that being the TEEN choice awards, Allison is not nominated. She is a great role model to teenage girl, IMO
    I don’t have the time – or the age – to vote, but here’s to hoping that the twilighters find Adam vampire-like enough to vote for him on their daily Twilight voting.
  • Jolene
    ^^Well, “Teen Choice” actually refers to the audience, so Allison being a teen has nothing to do with getting nominated. I do think it would’ve been nice if she was, but these awards aren’t for music yet, they’re for being in a reality TV show… it’s really not that important. Really.
    Actually, as I said earlier, since there are a bazillion categories, unless you’re Twilight and about to take home a dozen surfboards, it all gets washed away. The Idol fandom will gush and rave over Adam and Kris competing for the same award, but no one outside the devoted fans will care much anyway, and it’ll have no impact whatsoever on their careers. I mean, Cook won that category last year, so? Archie won another category, and? Their wins weren’t even shown on the air, the fans whooped for 2 minutes then moved along… It’s just not a big deal.
  • alxsavage
    I know it’s not about the music yet, but even as a TV personality, I believe that Allison had a lot more to offer and a more substantial message about confidence and success to deliver to those teenage girls that are voting, than Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian. I know it’s not important, I just think she deserved it a bit more.
  • wand3rful
    i really dont see the prob w. the power voting that is involved w. this type of awards show…do we really think that if given one voter per person, twllight and zac effron would not dominate the teen choice awards? having said all of that…it would be really, REALLY pathetic if adults invade the website and fake register for Adam or Kris votes. let the kids have their fun.
    OT: Vampire themed movies/ shows (since it came up in the thread):
    Twilight and Moonlight (CBS) desecrate the (un)holy name of vampire-themed content.
    Buffy was a very good show, but still way overrated (there are people out there who treat the words of Joss like they are the words of God, or perhaps even the “Word of God”)
    Angel was actually a better show.
    Dark Shadows was quite a good series.
    Believe it or not the Lifetime network had a good vampire series for a couple years called, Blood Ties.
    The series Kindred had the potential to be brilliant. Unfortunately, it was canceled after like four episodes.
    True Blood (Showtime) is great fun.
    The movie “Let The Right One In” is fantastic.
    The first Underworld movie was pretty good, although it had some ridiculous parts. The second one sucked. The third one was technically the best movie of the series, but it suffered from the lack of Kate Beckinsale and that dude who was on Felicity.
    (That’s all the pop-culture vampire media that I can think of at the moment. And I am an authority on the topic, of course! Just look at my screen name! Vampires come out at night, people!)
  • http://randomizeme.wordpress.com arca
    And yes, there will be fans who arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t teens who participate. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol fandom for ya.
    I wish people didn’t do that – cheat (by pretending to be teens) – I mean, let only the REAL teens vote please, idol fandoms. It’s so pathetic to see old(er) people waste their time on crap like this.
  • Sunshinegirl
    Kris will take this one. Adam appeals to older and more mature crowd.
    I think you have it backwards for reasons I’ve stated in other posts. Adam definitely has the tweenyboppers in his back pocket. He also of course has is couger fans too. Kris’s fans just are more laid back like he is.
    Having said that, since I went by CBS Studios all the time and went to a dress rehearsal, I have to say the teen-scream was loudest for Adam.
    I’m not surprised by that one bit. I know a bunch of 12-13 year old girls that want to do Adam. That’s particularly frightening for that age and apparently they missed the memo about his sexual preference. I do know a couple of 16 year olds that like Kris, but most of his fans I know are college age and older.
  • tomsuzuki
    Jordin Sparks is touring with the Jonas Brothers just as David is touring with Demi Lovato. So why isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Jordin on the ballot with the JoBros? :wacko_tb:
    i believe that Jordin is one of ?three? opening acts for the joni.
    that said, i agree, it isn’t a demi / david tour, it is a demi tour with david opening (with other acts for some of the dates), i think TCA needed to put david up there for a 3rd time (versus cook @ 2) just to insure they don’t get spammed to death like last year.
    if archie was nominated for an equal number of categories as cook, i imagine that the fanbase would be gearing up right now. i mean they created one of categories archies other categories as well “Choice Love Song” come on, don’t know for sure but i don’t think they had that category last year. TCA needed to nominate something muic based for archie so they could balance cook being nominated for “Choice Music Album (Male)”
    so, 1 real nomination for archie (Choice Breakout Artist), 1 artificially generated nomination (Choice Love Song) and 1 fake nomination (Choice Music: Tour).
    now before you start pelting me with should be in the compost bin vegtables / fruits, you should know that while i enjoy both cook and archie musically, i am without any question what so ever a david ARCHULETA fan.
    as for voting, no i’m not a teen, yes i did register (initially to see the categories), yes i have voted (once but mostly against certain people / acts / movies but FOR cook and archie except in the head to head where i went with my cat mating plagues archie), no i will not be creating multiple accounts and no i will not be voting every day like a lunatic just once in a while :) .
    “Note that this year, the producers shrewdly nominated both the winner and runner up. Now, there will be a race between fangroups to see who can vote their fav to the top. And yes, there will be fans who arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t teens who participate. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol fandom for ya.”
    I originally wanted Kris to win. Not that I care about this silly award, but mainly because I didn’t want to hear “America got it wrong.”, as I’ve heard in the past.
    However, I think that Kris’ appeal goes further than the teeny boppers. Kris’ appeal ranges from young to more mature and even more mature. So if Adam..or any of the other reality stars has more tweens that vote…whatever.
    Kris’ fans are, like Kris, more laid back IMO. Kris already won. I suppose that doesn’t necessitate proving that Kris has to win every silly fan award there is.
    Years ago the Claymates came out in force to get Clay to win every silly, juvenile award there is. It never helped Clay become a major artist.
    So if other fans want to vote in droves, let them. Kris’ fans know he’s already a winner.
    And America most definitely got it right.
    I completely agree. Reading those cougar posts that someone posted about voting for Adam because he makes them feel 14 again by creating multiple accounts and fake birthdates was hilariously ridiculous. Let ‘em have it! Kris doesn’t need it even though I’m sure he’d be honored by it if he did win.
    if archie was nominated for an equal number of categories as cook, i imagine that the fanbase would be gearing up right now. i mean they created one of categories archies other categories as well à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Choice Love Songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  come on, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know for sure but i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they had that category last year. TCA needed to nominate something muic based for archie so they could balance cook being nominated for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Choice Music Album (Male)à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬
    so, 1 real nomination for archie (Choice Breakout Artist), 1 artificially generated nomination (Choice Love Song) and 1 fake nomination (Choice Music: Tour).
    Interesting theory, however, last year there actually was a Choice Love Song category. Last year, they didn’t have a Choice Album category (male & female) for which Cook and Carrie are nominated. But I do agree it does seem like they change the categories every year to fit their own silly agenda. Last year, for example, they had Choice Summer Song… I mean really?! How more made up can you get than that! Also last year Choice Breakout Artist was not a category. There was instead a Choice Breakout Group. Below are last year’s categories and the corresponding winners in the Music division…
    MUSIC
    CHOICE MUSIC: SINGLE
    Jonas Brothers, “When You Look Me in the Eyes”
    CHOICE HOOKUP
    Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown, “No Air”
    CHOICE MUSIC: MALE ARTIST
    Chris Brown
    CHOICE MUSIC: FEMALE ARTIST
    Miley Cyrus
    CHOICE MUSIC: R&B ARTIST
    Chris Brown
    CHOICE MUSIC: BREAKOUT GROUP
    Jonas Brothers
    CHOICE MUSIC: LOVE SONG
    Jonas Brothers, “When You Look Me in the Eyes”
    CHOICE MUSIC: R&B TRACK
    Chris Brown, “Forever”
    CHOICE MUSIC: RAP/HIP HOP TRACK
    Lil Mama featuring Chris Brown and T-Pain, “Shawty Get Loose”
    CHOICE SUMMER SONG
    Jonas Brothers, “Burnin’ Up”
    Yes. That is true. However, that same description describes Adam too… they both have fans of all ages. lol
  • Calliope
    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not surprised by that one bit. I know a bunch of 12-13 year old girls that want to do Adam. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s particularly frightening for that age and apparently they missed the memo about his sexual preference. I do know a couple of 16 year olds that like Kris, but most of his fans I know are college age and older.
    I think it’s partially because Adam is rather masculine and has a sexual vibe, yet it’s not that threatening to them. I know when I was that young I found more androgynous and effeminate guys “hot” since it’s the start of being aware of sexuality. That’s for a different discussion though.
    Also, Adam’s stylish — never discount that. ;)
    I do think Adam has a lot of teen fans (his homecoming video had a lot of them about), so I wouldn’t be surprised if he won this with or without AI fans of all ages participating. But that would be the award show choosing though, right? I thought it was basically least voted for gets eliminated, then Teen’s Choice pick who wins.
    Anyway, I still think both Adam and Kris do have a rather large appeal across the age spectrum in general.
    ETA:
    Yes. That is true. However, that same description describes Adam tooà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ they both have fans of all ages. lol
    unique28v: Yes! The baby on Youtube who won’t be quiet till she gets “More Adam” and the oldest Tweeter on Twitter are two extreme examples. ;)
    These awards are so damn funny….they have no basis in any kind of reality and are just an exercise for super fan bases to spring their uberly over-invested fans into action. Any kind of internet voting is perilous at best and really doesn’t reflect the true nature of anything. Especially when there is no control over who votes and how many times they vote.
    Every fanbase does the same silly stuff, whether it be for Archie or Cook, Kris or Adam. And any fan who thinks that their fanbase is too sophisticated to participate are only fooling themselves. I could go to any fan-driven site and find the same kind of instructions with the same fan comments and the same intended results.
    I’ll just sit back and laugh at all of this. And the weird thing is that this type of behavior inside the fan base never stops. Every online voter driven awards show, every top 20 VH1 video line-up, every radio show song challenge is looked on as a personal challenge by the fan groups.
    Guess I’ll just stay put and continue to comment in the nice sane environment that is MJs.
    I would almost bet “Crush” gets that award. Isn’t it around 2X platinum now? I would think a lot of young girls bought that single and will vote non-stop for it. :jittery_tb:
    As far as the teen awards. I wish Adam was presenting or performing. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not up to seeing Miley Cyrus again so I probably wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch it but wait for the vids here.
    Isn’t Miley everrrr going to grow up and just disappear? :bye_tb:
    I vote for Lady Gaga in Music Album, Single and Breakout Artist. If I was a teen and I’m not… Just my opinion tho…..
  • AC
    I think Kris and Adam both have a bunch of fans of all ages. The true test to see if Adam has “fanatical” teen fans is if they get him to beat the Jonas Brothers in that red carpet thing. haha. That or it’ll show that he has a lot of older fans willing to pretend that they are teenagers. hehe
    Exactly! Same rabidness across board in my opinion, even for silly awards such as this.
    Same old shit, year in, year out
    Idol fandome always makes me chuckle
    Jumping in the OT discussion:
    The series Kindred had the potential to be brilliant. Unfortunately, it was canceled after like four episodes.
    Oh, I remember Kindred! I think it was supposed to move to another network (HBO or USA or something) after Fox cancelled it but then the lead actor who played the uber hot vampire prince died tragically in a motorcycle accident. Which besides being sad is kinda ironic considering it was a show about immortal vamps.
    Speaking of shows cancelled before their time, Firefly was by far my favorite Whedon project. Sniff. I never did think either Whedon vamp show, Buffy or Angel, was as strong after the spin off thingy as the original Buffy was before they separated characters into the two shows. I did love me some Lindsey and Lorne on Angel, though.
    And on topic: Hilarious that people would actually bother to register fake personas to vote for Teen Choice Awards. Nice to see Cook nominated, but I’m not holding my breath for a win. After all, he doesn’t even shaaaave!
  • isisdagmar
    The impression that I got all season was that Adam and Kris were both loved by tweens and teens (which is why they were the final 2), but that Kris definitely had a bigger fanbase in that area. I would be surprised if Kris was marketed to purely appeal to tweens, though–that’s just not his style.
    And yes, awards are fun and I almost qualify as a teen (I’m 20), but there is no way in hell that I am voting for this.
  • tinawina
    Well the only one I’m rooting for on this is Archie, since he actually is something of a teen idol and it would be fitting if he got something. For everybody else I don’t care one way or another.
    VERY OT: I actually thought BtVS should have went in the direction Kindred was going with its competing clans of vampires. Imagine a Gothic house led by the Master, a punk clan led by Spike and Dru, a good clan led by Angel etc. Now THAT would have been epic.
    STILL OT: Back to vampire-themed productions generally– how could I forget Blade? The first two movies were decent. The third sucked. But, the Blade the series on Spike TV was outstanding. Unfortunately, they pulled the plug after one year.
    OK, couple more: Interview With The Vampire was good and Queen of The Damned was a guilty pleasure in a “so bad, it’s good” way. Oh and beyond that, I’m completely unfamiliar with the Anita Blake series, so I can’t say anything about it.
    Just read this. This is really quite hilarious.
    Adam’s fans pretending to be teens. I am still chuckling. I think there are enough fanatical teens out there for Adam without the rest meddling. But if they find this worth the fun. Okay then. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just a surfboard.
    Looks like some Kris fans are still bristling to prove that Kris deserves the win and America did not get it wrong. I think there is really no need to defend Kris. If he is the rightful winner, when his album comes out he will be able to turn this into multi platinum selling one ,like David Cook. Then all this talk will die down.
    Just saw David Cook on LKL. Gorgeous. Touching.
    Just saw again 20/20 with Adam. What charisma. Touching as well.
    Sorry have to look for a recent Kris interview. Maybe somebody can post a link. That would be great.
    These kids are really intelligent and articulate. They really shine in interviews. And such unique singing voices. Just great. Hope the teens think of this criteria in their choice of TV Star.
    David Cook’s album has gone platinum, not yet multi platinum yet. To even go gold in the current state of this economy is considered miraculous. So no, there’s no need to defend Kris, I agree with that. But even if he doesn’t reach platinum with his first album, I’m not going to call him a failure or say he should not have won.
    I really don’t have a clue as to which one, Kris or Adam, the teens gravitate more toward. However, this may be a telling sign… TigerBeatMag is running an online poll for Top 25 Hottest Celebs. Adam is one of the candidates, but Kris is conspicuously absent…
    Oh, I thought David Cook’s album is multiplatinum. Thought I saw that award in one of the results show. Something like quadruple platinum. Was I dreaming ?
    Anyway good luck to everyone all around. Looks like the recession is going to be longer than what economists were hoping for. So more tightening of the belts ahead for everyone.
