Hynde slams booze and talent shows – Rock star Chrissie Hynde has hit out at alcohol, describing it as the “scandal of our times” and the same as drug addiction. She also hit out at TV talent shows, stating that she would rather watch re-runs of 1980s crime show MAsked about musical talent shows on TV, the Ohio-born rocker described The Voice as “people with not much talent being judged by people with no taste”. She explained that she has been approached to be a judge on talent shows, but claimed: ” I don’t want to judge anyone on anything, especially music.” inder than The Voice, and claimed that young pop stars such as Miley Cyrus “haven’t lived a life”. – Read more at Belfast Telegraph

Jessica Sanchez gets thumbs up for ‘Lupang Hinirang’ rendition – DIGOS CITY, Philippines – It was not yet the Pacquiao-Bradley fight but the crowd already exploded into jubilation as Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez, who wowed voters of American Idol season 11 for her vocal prowess despite her young age, belted out the Philippine national anthem, “Lupang Hinirang,” in high pitch. “She nailed it,” said a spectator at a coffee shop here, where the live telecast of Pacquiao’s fight with the American pugilist was being shown. – Read more at Inquirer.net

Clay Aiken banking on his name, not TV or signs – Congressional candidate and ex-crooner Clay Aiken has had one advantage in his campaign for the Democratic nomination to challenge Rep. Renee Ellmers, thanks to the currency of celebrity. But is he running low of cash currency? At the end of February, Aiken sold the mansion he had built in 2006 in a corner of Chatham County near Cary for more than $700,000 less than he paid for it. Now he’s renting a 4,200-square-foot, half-million-dollar spread in Cary’s Amberly-Village Square development, which is still in the 2nd Congressional District. While his chief competitor, Keith Crisco, has been an increasing presence – a TV ad campaign and Crisco signs all around the district – Aiken hasn’t done any commercials or signs. Money trouble? ‘The Amazing Race’: Caroline and Jen don’t mind being the underdogs – Blonde country singers Caroline and Jen might be the underdogs on Season 24 of “The Amazing Race,” the third all-stars edition in the show’s history, but they’re still one of seven teams left in the competition — having lucked out with both an express pass and a non-elimination round. “How lucky were we? It was a very, very lucky break for us,” Caroline tells Zap2it of their luck in the sixth leg of the season. We had a ray of hope, because finishing the challenge there were still a couple of extra taxis out front and the traffic was so horrible that we thought maybe it was going to go our way or someone would get stuck in traffic.
