American Idol Curtis Finch: It’s Sad I’d Rather Hear You Talk Than Sing

Let’s play a game! So, what do YOU think Curtis Finch was talking about when he tweeted the following earlier today?

From what I can gather, the gang was gathered for American Idol Live tour rehearsals at the time, based on the compliments Curtis tweeted to Candice Glover and Kree Harrison about their performances.

About 15 minutes later he tweeted this:

I mean, c’mon. How did he EXPECT fans to react? He appears to be dissing everyone’s favorite eff up, Lazaro Arbos, although he never names him, but who knows!

This upcoming tour is going to be so fun! No really, I’ll be popping the popcorn, and setting up the lawn chairs.

So, who do you think Curtis is talking about?

  • Cory Patrick

    Messy

  • wordnerdarchie

I’m not touching this one, lol.

  • jdanton2

Lazaro! Curtis likes to speak his mind it seems.

  • jms

    Hahaha what a mess…..

  • tripp_ncwy

This tour may be worth a $20 discounted ticket to just see the dysfunction in this group.

  • vdawg

Should be some fun bus rides.

  • Eric Ascher

He was clearly talking about Obama. COME ON CURTIS. Feel free to complain about Lazaro, just do it AFTER the tour is over when you don’t have to live with him.

  • hellomusicgirl

I voted for Miss Utah. Just because someone needs to.

  • Eileen99

Welp, I bought one of those $20 discounted tickets to see the show in Seattle. Should be loads of fun.

So, I’ll play. I imagine he’s talking about Lazaro, but a joke about his speech difficulties? Low. Really low.

  • chillj

    Huh?

  • lollamape

I LOLed at the fact that MJ already tagged ‘Lazaro Arbos’ in this thread. Let the drama begin *popcorn and coke

  • jms

High five to whoever else voted Morsi

  • Sassycatz

    Note sure I understand this:

From what I can gather, the gang was gathered for American Idol Live tour rehearsals at the time, based on the shout-outs Curtis was directed at Candice Glover and Kree Harrison.

What was directed at Candice and Kree? It sounds like you’re saying his tweets were directed to them, which clearly you didn’t mean to say.

  • justmefornow

This group is really a bunch of losers on so many levels. I’m glad I bailed half way through the season and didn’t waste anymore of my time.
    Good luck with that tour.

  • LeahKittyS

He paid them some compliments, saying Kree is hilarious and he’s honored to be sharing the stage with Candice. As for this? Yeah, it’s most definitely about Lazaro. And it’s rude and uncalled for.

  • No Thanks

Seriously, out of ALL the Idol seasons, I’ve never seen so many contestants with such high levels of stupidity and hubris. Congrats Season 12, you’ve overtaken Season 9 as WORST. CONTESTANTS. EVER.

Shit, I mean Season 9 may have been on the dull side, but none of them approached the levels of ass-hattery this crew has.

  • LeahKittyS

I agree, that was way below the belt. We all know Lazaro can’t sing live, but he’s your cast mate. Stay classy.

  • Wfish88

That’s what I thought MJ was implying too

  • Sassycatz

Thank you. I definitely do not follow him, so I have no idea what other comments he’s been making to others or the context. The info above didn’t make the “shout-outs” clear.

  • girlygirl

Even what appears to be dysfunctional mess(es) of relationship(s) between some of the contestants in S12 isn’t likely to raise much interest in this tour.

But assuming that tweet is about Lazaro, it’s very classless. Keep it to yourself, Curtis

  • Joob

Not all of them. Angie, Candice, Kree, Paul and Janelle are sweethearts.

  • http://twitter.com/ElizabethThe Elizabeth Rosalyn

lol, oh boy. That tour bus is headed for the highway to hell…

  • fuzzywuzzy

“So, who do you think Curtis is talking about?”

lol That was a no brainer.

  • LeahKittyS

Only the boys’ bus. The girls are on a different bus.

  • No Thanks

I dunno. Amber’s ego could suck the air out of any room.

  • LeahKittyS

Not according to the other girls. And that’s who we need to trust the most in these sticky situations.

  • http://twitter.com/ElizabethThe Elizabeth Rosalyn

Not worried about them. The ladies’ bus is going right to Paradise City. :)

  • halo9125

Sadly, I wouldn’t sit through the dysfunction even if it were free.

  • LeahKittyS

    And Devin and Aubrey, too.

  • Karen C

It’s going to be quite a summer for them.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Another tweet from Curtis:

    Curtis Finch ?@CurtisAI12
    2 Jul
I get so irritated with people who call themselves SINGERS!!!! Ummmm learn how to retain a melody FIRST! THANKS MANAGEMENT!

  • LeahKittyS

Yeah, but there’s speaking your mind and then there’s insensitive d-bagging. Calling out Lazaro’s pitchiness and forgotten lyrics while he’s in the room with you is bad enough when you’re supposed to be his cast mate, not a judge. But then to call him out for a stutter he can’t control? Some man of God you are.

  • Joob

Well, Devin, who knows, especially following that atrocious guys performance…

  • Joob

    LMao. He’s on FIRE today…

  • LeahKittyS

I saw that one, too. The competition’s been over for more than a month. Get over it and enjoy your fans while you still have them, before they move on to the next season.

  • LeahKittyS

He apologized to Burnell and Lazaro on Twitter afterwards. Nobody there has bad blood with him. But I have a feeling we’ll never see an apology from Curtis, about anything. That’s just who he is.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Well, that was from July 2, but I think that he’s referring to Lazaro again. Maybe, Laz missed another key change? lol

  • Niall

I think if this season had buzz and good ticket sales we’d see less of the bickering and passive aggressive jabs. They aren’t oblivious to how their season is perceived and suspect that is the major cause of the in fighting. If they had the momentum of a season 5 or season 7 there would be more cohesion. Of course to have the momentum of those seasons you have to have the talent and popularity of those seasons.

Though now that I think about it, seasons 3 and 9 had their own struggles with ticket sales and I don’t remember either group turning on each other. So maybe it’s more of a bad personality mix and immaturity after all.

  • emme1000

what a jerk….he was always too full of himself

  • emme1000

    I so agree about Amber.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I don’t think that any fan knows what the real relationship is between this year’s Idols.

  • Tinawina

I’m going to have to order multiple flavors of popcorn this year. Woo-hoo!!

  • Jasmine

I would give him the benefit of the doubt, but considering his recent compliments to the ladies, shoutouts to Devin and Burnell, and my doubt of anyone having issue with Paul, this one is pretty obvious…which is honestly sad considering how long they’re going to have to be together.

If Amber’s ask.fm is anything to go off, I don’t have full confidence in the ladies either. She seems to subtlety be hinting at issues with Angie.

What a fun summer this will be.

  • dabney_c

Do we know what ticket sales are like for the remaining scheduled shows?

  • Ronnie D

Curtis never struck me as the professional type.

  • dabney_c

Are the tickets discounted by $20, or discounted down to $20?

  • Axxxel

Yeah, being “on fire” is the worst moment to go social media and type something… Better type it in a document and keep it to yourself and ask yourself the next day whether it is worth posting in social media.

  • No Thanks
  • LeahKittyS

Are those supposed to be Niall and Zayn from One DIrection? LOL

  • No Thanks

Yes. From the classic “Adventurous Adventures of One Direction”.

  • LeahKittyS

I’m not on ask.fm. What did Amber say?

  • Axxxel

I guess on the boys bus, they will just zone out and sleep or play with their smartphones … Too tired to be catty all the time.

  • Axxxel

Amber wasn’t very pleased either when Angie got 2 duets in the finals and I think she expressed it on twitter.

  • tucker davis

This group seems to have extreme immaturity and extreme maturity. You couldn’t ask for more mature ladies than Candice & Kree. Really hate that they’re stuck with some of the others. If other seasons were like this, they certainly hid it well.

  • flog gnaw

    LMAO!!!

I wish the contestants voiced their opinions like this every season. Absolutely hilarious. He’s was obviously talking about Dwight Howard tho.

  • resunikcufecin

There seems to have been a falling out between Lazaro and some of the other contestants. Even Amber apparently has a beef with him, and they’ve been super close.

  • Axxxel

Thank goodness for Candice and Kree… and silent Paul…

  • No Thanks

I’m sure it will eventually escalate to this before the end of the summer: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m5l9f3XRwL1r9br6v.gif

  • James

Memo to Curtis if Nigel & Company were not so obsessed with having a girl win you wouldn’t have been on the show yourself, so put a sock in it already.

  • Jasmine

Someone asked: “am I the only one that thinks Angie is the bitchy one of top 10..? :/ hmm”

    Amber replied: “Lol.”

And another recent question: “Why did you say “lol” when that person asked about Angie? Angie is NOT. Angie is the sweetest person ever. I went to her hometown visit and she couldn’t stop crying. What do you mean by “lol” please answer.?”

Amber’s reply: “I said lol. Cause it was funny. Your opinion and my opinion may be different so what. You just saw her that one time I see her everyday. Sooo…”

  • LeahKittyS

Oh. Oh boy. Well, Angie doesn’t seem to have an issue with Amber, so either she hasn’t heard about this or she’s brushing it off.

  • No Thanks

Have you ever heard of the term “throwing shade”? Because that is what Amber is doing. Throwing shade at Angie.

  • Jasmine

I would agree with that if she didn’t say “You saw her that one time I see her everyday.” If she doesn’t think Angie is bitchy, why even imply otherwise with that line?

  • LeahKittyS

And sweet Janelle. And Angie, who even when she steps out of line is willing to go back and fix it.

  • LeahKittyS

I know, Jasmine. I read it wrong the first time, so I changed my comment entirely.

  • chloe18

I was just going to make this comment. This has to be the messiest season of idol all around.

  • LeoCS

LOL. They should put cameras on the bus and start a live feed. They could get a bigger audience than they had this year with the show.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“You just saw her that one time I see her everyday. Sooo…”

I’m not defending Amber and have no idea if her opinion of Angie is true, but this part is true. Fans don’t really know their Idol from what they see on camera or brief public appearances.

  • resunikcufecin

Angie seems like a mega bitch to me. She’s always putting on this nice girl act, but you just know she’s totally ruthless in real life.

  • Karen C

That’s Lazaro and Devin after Lazaro forgot the words again. Which will probably be every night….

  • LeahKittyS

Actually, an inside source tells me that Devin tried to stay out of the fight backstage that night. Burnell, on the other hand, yelled his face off at Lazaro. So this will probably be Lazaro and Burnell every night. Or maybe Lazaro and Curtis, considering the earlier comment…

  • Karen C

No, I think S9 was pretty close. Just about all of them are. I’ve never seen so much supposed in fighting among a cast as this year.

  • No Thanks

Maybe. I get the impression she’s super ambitious and probably doesn’t “suffer fools” so to speak. And seeing that a whole bunch of these years contestants are some the biggest fools the show has ever had, I wouldn’t be surprised if Angie had very little tolerance for the rampant idiocy going around.

  • Karen C

I didn’t know there was really a fight backstage, was thinking more what they did on camera. Either way not a good situation.
I’m wondering if a lot of the problems were because most of the contestants didn’t have a lot of professional , and in some cases life, experience. Other casts seemed to have more experienced contestants, even the young ones.

  • 50Watts

They should have these idols do a BIG BROTHER show..RMAO LOL that would be funny..

  • Sassycatz

    Or the concerts.

  • LeahKittyS

Lazaro mentioned the fight in his interview with Michael Slezak for TV Line. He said Burnell got mad at him but he never said anything about Devin, except on Twitter that he and Devin are good friends and he was sad to see him go.
As for life experience, yeah, they may be somewhat sheltered, but every single one of them has had a hardship to go through. Clearly some deal differently with it than others.

  • LeahKittyS

OMG if it escalates to this I want video! Lazaro, Devin, and Paul look so good shirtless.

  • No Thanks

Angie reminds me of Tracy Flick from Election. It was probably like this during the show: http://youtu.be/8Mh_X7rDo3I

  • resunikcufecin

    You are really reaching here.

  • roaringpen

Oh yes, Angie is totally Tracy Flick from election.LMAO!

  • Stooch

It’s really sad when I find the most interesting part of this season is all the stuff that is said on twitter……… oh yeah and Amber’s was it a nipple or wasn’t it :)

  • Larc

Looks as if the Mariah & Nicki fights may have been only the preliminaries. The Idol tour could be the main event.

  • alar borja

    VOTED ..:))

Deposed President of Egypt, Mohammed Morsi

  • Wfish88

Amber is also been a diva online. She’s dissed Hollie and been rude to Skyler and she’s b**tched about IDOL producers picking their favs. IMO, this season has too many big egos ( Amber, Curtis, Lazaro are the biggest)

  • LeahKittyS

I don’t believe Angie is a “bitch” (I put it in quotes because I wouldn’t define anyone that way). She’s Kree’s best friend and the other girls love her. Would warm, genuine Kree and mature, down-to-earth Candice be friends with a “bitch?” I doubt it. Whatever Amber suggests about her on ask.fm is a sign of her own immaturity.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Well, they’re all “best friends” during the run of the show. That meme has gotten really old when you actually pay attention to how much contact former Idols from the same season actually have with one another once the tour breaks. I’ve always felt there was a certain amount of opportunism among the Idols when it came to choosing their besties.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I don’t follow Amber, but you could easily be right about her. My point is that fans can’t possibly “know” any of their favorites or their relationships with others based on public comments, appearances and image. This holds true for any celebrity IMO.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Curtis is being a total and complete JERK! And it’s the most refreshing thing I’ve seen from any of the Idols in 12 seasons. The Idols have always bored me beyond reason with their “We’re all best friends for life!” nonsense. Really? Prove it, Idols. Once the tour is over, it’s every single man/woman for him/herself, and all that phony friendship crap goes right out the window. Show me a single fairly successful Idol who has made an attempt to help their less successful “best friend” Idol. Anyone? Bueller? At least Curtis is telling it like it is from the get-go.

  • madmike2276

This says more about Amber – whom for full disclosure I thought was immature and over rated all season. I thought Angie had drive, and as you know, one person’s drive is another’s ego. Amber seems insecure that Angie has been and continues to put in the work to succeed, while the Amber’s and Lazaro’s of the world think their stars will shine brighter by dulling someone elses.

  • No Thanks

Adam helped Allison. Made her opening act on his tour. Put her in his music video. Fantasia and JHud have always has each others backs. Fantasia sang at her mothers funeral. Pretty sure JHud has remained super close to George Huff. Chris Daughtry gave Ace a writing credit on “It’s Not Over” which was nominated for a Grammy. Clay and Ruben toured together. Kelly Clarkson and Tamyra had a duet on her debut album. Wasn’t Kellie Pickler a bridesmaid at Katharine McPhee’s wedding? Haley Reinhart and Casey Abrahms continue to work together.

So, NO, not all Idols are backstabbing, two-faced bastards just out for themselves.

  • Montavilla

Jennifer Hudson was on American Idol a couple years and one of her back-up singers was fellow season-mate George Huff. Does that count? She was giving him some work anyway.

Does it count that, given his choice of opening acts, Adam Lambert chose Allison Iraheta? Is that doing her a solid or keeping her down? What about when he gives her and Kris twitter shout-outs for their latest music?

How about Haley Reinhart singing on Casey Abrams’ album? Or them putting out a Christmas duet? How about her and Stefano Langano dating after the summer tour ended?

  • Miles (Grumpy) (VI)

If Candice and Kree are so “mature” they should show a little leadership and put the kiddies in line. It’s their season getting mucked up if there is anything to this stuff.

If there really is a problem…they are part of it.

  • fuzzywuzzy

This is all the perception of a fan. No fan knows any of these people in real life, so it’s all speculation regarding their real personalities and relationships.

  • suenigma

You know, there were rumours of infighting and tiffs in Season 5, 7, 9, etc. – probably even more serious than these silly little spats. But two things come to mind, 1) No Twitter and limited media access and 2) TPTB still gave a shit – about maintaining appearances and about the viability of their potential little goldmines. Number 2 is probably the most important factor – I honestly don’t think TPTB could care less if this crew goes full “Donner Party” on tour. In fact, it might them some touring expenses. Remember when TPTB put a stop to the Mavid dances because it was to risque, or divisive, or whatever? That seems like such a quaint notion now.

  • hellomusicgirl

I don’t know why it would have to be a “more successful helping less successful” thing to show that Idol friendships aren’t phony. Isn’t friendship about wanting to hang out with someone without an ulterior motive? I think there are quite a few Idol contests who have remained friends over the years. They post pics when they get a chance to meet up and occasionally chat over twitter so we see it but I’m sure there are more connections that happen out of the public eye too.

You’ll find it more within seasons, I think. They build a bond being together that long and then on tour. I watched a THR interview with Brooke White last year and she said that Archie stays with her when he’s in town and came over to help her move and that she talks to Carly alot and just got a text from Jason Castro about greeting cards lol. And that was 4 years removed from their season. I’m sure there are things like that from many alums. Yeah, there are exceptions — like maybe this entire past season lol — but for the most part the kids seems to get on well during and after the show. I don’t know about any epic soul-mate friendships (except Diana & Ace!) but I think there are real friends made.

  • Karen C

Interesting.. It was more because the cartoon looked like them than anything I knew other than what Devin said when they sang.
I just think some in this group is saying more negative things against others than we’ve seen before.

  • hellomusicgirl

Mavid!! lol aww I miss them. That whole controversy about the dancing was so goofy to me. I liked that they were able to have fun on tour.

  • Anny_nanny

    President Obama

  • Karen C

THis is the first season I haven’t seen a bond between the whole cast.

  • Karen C

Even if they had twitter, I doubt if they would have made anything public anyway. Not just TPTB on the show, but I think the contestants themselves had enough professionalism not to make this kind of thing public, even if anything did happen.

  • bryan

    There’s actually several examples…for starters
Kelly Clarkson had a Tamyra duet on her first album
Alison Iraheta opened for Adam Lambert

  • Karen C

David Cook had Carly Smithson sing Barracuda with his band at one of his concerts, and he announced that she had formed a band We are The Fallen and would be coming out with an album. Also, during his tour, most of the top 10 except for David A who wasn’t in town, went to his show in LA. This was over a year after they were on their show. David also went to see Carly when she was in Cirque De Solei last year.

Adam Lambert has tweeted about Allison’s band, and I think Megan’s music also.

Brooke White and Michael Johns recently recorded another song together.

Kris Allen went on Danny Gokey’s cruise for the Sophia foundation and promoted it to his fans.

  • Anny_nanny

People say you can order half the hall for any show.

  • Dianne

Lazaro def not my fave, but Curtis displayed an alarming lack of class by tweeting this. Remember when Kris Allen joked that twitter is the devil? A little truth to that!

  • Stooch

I was on ticket master last week and able to get blocks of 8 floor seats for the first 5 shows. I got bored after that and din’t try anymore lol

  • Kariann Hart

I truly thought Carrie Underwood would have recorded a duet with Anthony Fedorov at some point. Big disappointment when she didn’t.

  • Kariann Hart

I was never truly impressed with Amber on the show. The bit about “the next Whitney Houston” just didn’t ring true with me.

  • Kariann Hart

I was so happy for Janelle!

  • Reflects On Life

You left out one option – himself. Remember: Curtis went out last place.
I suspect many would rather her him talk than sing. ;)

  • Sassycatz

Well … not the same season, but David C. and Carrie apparently have an actual friendship. He was the only former Idol at her wedding, they performed a duet at Disney, he’s been to her concerts and she might have been to one of his … can’t remember, he’s been at her birthday celebrations, and she had him as a guest on her Christmas special

  • Lexie O’Neill

Scotty has had both Pia and Paul open for him. Not a big thing, but hey, some money in their pockets.:))

  • Lexie O’Neill

Oh, and I forgot Kristy Lee Cooke has done several shows with him as well…

  • jpfan2

There’s so little interest in this crew that even if Lazaro and Curtis came to blows on stage everyone night, I doubt most people would care.
That said, there do seem to be some truly creepy people in the S12 cast.

  • Pippygirl

Adam Lambert had Allison Iraheta open for him during his first tour.

  • mmb

that is just the nature of being on a tv show/tour etc. It is common — whether in a community theater production, tv show, rock tour, or heck summer camp, for people who are thrown together to become very good friends but then quickly grow apart and have little contact once the show/tour/camp/college etc.is over. Thats not unique to Idol

  • mmb

Carrie U routinely gives her contact information to new Idol alums and gives them all gifts, she is “real-life” friends with David Cook; Adam Lambert brought Allison Iraheta out on tour, pimps her new band, gave Angie his personal contact info and offered himself up as a resource, and pimps other Idol alums music on twitter and in interviews with radio folks; J hud has hired George Huff as a backup singer…there are lots and lots of examples of Idols helping out other Idols

  • elliegrll

Every time I see one of them tweet or talk all I can think is that they have no idea about the low level of interest that people have in them. It seems like they were oblivious to it all season. It’s almost sad.

  • Montavilla

Another random Idol friend thing. Clay Aiken and Kimberly Locke lived together for some time in LA after their season ended.

  • Incipit

There are so many instances of continuing friendship within Idol seasons and across seasons, this whole concept of Idols routinely being insincere jerks to each other doesn’t even begin to hold up. The rotating casts of things like Branson, or Christmas shows or appearances are often covered here, along with the random opportunities to hang out that we get to hear about, like Brooke and Archie visiting DC and taking pictures. (The guy, not the city)

    Random moments:

David Cook and Kris Allen celebrated Alison Iraheta’s 18th birthday with her in 2010, took her out to dinner in LA. Lee DeWyze joined David and Andrew Cook to celebrate Andrew’s 23 birthday, and he also accompanied DC and Neal for a private Gig somewhere near San Francisco in 2010. Also, last July there was an amusing moment when DC and Carly went to breakfast a month before her baby girl Olivia arrived, she tweeted that the hostess thought he was the Baby Daddy.

DC met Alexis Grace backstage at Idol when he came to sing on Season 8 – she turned up at his Memphis show, and David gave her a shout out from the stage.

DC’s family have started a tradition of Kansas City barbecue every year for the Idol cast when the tour comes in or near enough to KC, it usually only gets a mention when one of the idols tweets a Thank You, or mentions it on Twitter – they sometimes do – but it always happens.

Other non publicized occurrences, so non publicized I only know about two winners who do it – give gifts to the Idol casts. But nobody is doing it for the press. Carrie’s gift of necklaces was mentioned this year, and (I think) Jim Cantiello let slip about DC giving iPods with their names on them to the Idol cast in 2011. There was even a picture.

I’m far from a Pollyanna, and I could mention at least two alumni who have cast shade, or gone further and been obnoxious over the years. But that’s two out of how many at this point? Sure, looks like there will be a few to add this season – it’s still a tiny minority.

That ‘Idols are all douchebags to each other’ premise is definitely not supported. The examples to prove otherwise are probably endless. But their lives are no longer intertwined as they were on the show…so making the effort to keep in touch is no less difficult than what we normal people go through with the folks in our lives. IMO.

  • Guest

    That’s very

  • Ari

I rather Curtis shut up altogether as I don’t want to hear in same or talk or anything.

  • halo9125

The fact that it’s July 8th and the tour hasn’t started yet tells me all I need to know about the interest in this crop of Idols. The fact that a good many of them seem utterly classless doesn’t help.

  • Pat H

I think the season 9 Idols (the other horriblee season and ticket sales) at least liked each other. Right?
If only there could be another tour like Johns & Cook. Or Kradam!

  • thedeviledadvocate

Perhaps Tim Burton will produce a new movie called

    “How The Finch Stole Christmas”

Starring Bernie Mac as the “Finch”

Also starring Johnny Depp as Lazaro Augustus “Mayor of Whoville”

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Well, you’re right. And apparently, the Idols did stay in touch much more than I knew.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I think Elliott and Blake are roomates now. I know… different seasons. I see lots of good will via twitter. I think Ace wrote a song for Kimberly Locke. As already mentioned, I do think Allison and Adam adore each other. Plenty of other examples.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I think they had a falling out, though…

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I usually enjoy a little cat fight, and I’m no fan of the Laz, but making fun of a speech impediment? Not cool.

  • dabney_c

LOL, Mavid. What was controversial about their little dances, anyway? I can’t remember the reasoning behind TPTB’s reprimand.

  • Ronnie D

I will also say that Curtis making fun of Lazaro because he stutters is out of line and very offensive. I don’t care for Lazaro either, but that was cruel and uncalled for. What a piece of crap he is.

  • dabney_c

That’s right – there was no twitter, no facebook, no Myspace, and no media contact. The kids used to be almost quarantined for the duration of their stay on the show. I think the lack of access to the contestants added to the mystique of Idol in the earlier seasons. Now the kids are talking to fans on twitter, sharing opinions of the other contestants, and giving away song spoilers and stuff. It’s kind of fun to have that connection, but at the same time, too much exposure can diminish interest, excitement and anticipation.

  • girlygirl

What was risque about about the Mavid dances? TPTB didn’t have a problem with the Kradam dances the following season (or if they did, they didn’t stop them)

  • dabney_c

Elliott also hired Sway Pinella (Season 5) as backup singer for his tour.

  • dabney_c

Wow, Carrie didn’t invite Anthony Federov to her wedding? They were total BFF in their season.

  • Cindy

    Wow, he’s not very nice.

  • girlygirl

There are a lot of former Idols who are still good friends with each other. And several of them have worked together after their season ended.

But no one is asking these kids to be friends or keep in touch with each other after tour is over. But there’s a difference between that are showing a complete lack of class, which is what Curtis is doing by making fun of someone who has a speech impediment. I don’t care if Lazaro is an ass and/or can’t sing to save his life, you just don;t do s*** like this.

  • windmills

Carrie invited Kellie Pickler to her wedding, but Kellie had a show that weekend (and Carrie & Mike said after the fact that there was basically one weekend where they could get married because of their schedules). Point being that not being at the wedding doesn’t necessarily mean not being invited to the wedding. I’m also not 100% sure if Cook was the only Idol at Carrie’s wedding because it’s possible Lindsey Cardinale was too (they were very close for years after AI).

  • Indigobunting

It probably would be rare to be ‘best friends for life’. But certainly numerous instances of Idols being friends-attending each other’s concerts, getting together when they are in the same city.

As far as helping each other’s careers? Not too many of them are big enough (only Carrie, Kelly and Daughtry, IMO) to really ‘help’ each other’s careers. But small acts of kindness amount to something significant.

Danny Gokey helped get his best Idol friend Matt Giraud at the Milwaukee audition opening televised portion for S9 and also let Scott McIntyre sign and promote his album at one of Danny’s concerts in Arizona. And both Matt Giraud and Kris Allen, as well as Jamar Rogers have all performed on Gokey’s Sophia’s Heart charity cruise.

I do agree much of the ‘friendship’ is for the television audience, but there is no doubt some lasting friendships are forged.

  • irockhard

The S10 kids are still pretty tight to this day and hang out quite often. James invited Haley, Fano & Casey to his wedding. Fano opened for James at Uninversal CityWalk last summer. Scotty’s sister wen to James show in NC earlier this year.

I don’t like Curtis, but I really can’t listen to Lazaro talk or sing. Had to fast forward through every moment he was on screen when the show aired.

  • Happyhexer

Okay, I’m seriously no fan of Lazaro. But re Lazaro’s speech problems, don’t go there, Curtis! Isn’t it bad enough that Lazaro can’t sing, or learn lyrics or choreography? And has an ego the size of Texas (no disrespect meant to Texas or Texans)? An ego that you seem to share with him, Curtis? Curtis, you can legitimately criticize Lazaro for many things, but not something over which he has no control!

Of course, I don’t know that Curtis was talking about Lazaro, but the fact that they were at tour rehearsals and the “rather hear you talk than sing” makes me think he was. (Not to mention the “who voted for you” part.)

  • girlygirl

S8 is the only season in which I’ve followed any of the contestants on twitter after tour ended, and many of them seem to have retained at least some sort of friendship. Matt tweeted a picture of himself with Danny from when the former was performing in Nashville recently, for example. Anoop was at Kris’ show in Atlanta this past spring. Several of the S8 Idols have tweeted about Allison’s new band, Adam is constantly tweeting about other people’s music (including his fellow S8ers) and Kris has tweeted about several of the S8ers’ music, as well. Matt & Kris have performed at Danny’s Sophia Heart Foundation events, Allison opened on tour for Adam, and I believe Allison, Matt and a couple of other S8ers have performed together at one-off events. When Kris got in his car accident & announced he was going to be a dad, many of the other S8ers tweeted about this. Etc etc etc.

In a cross-season collab, Jason Castro and Kris got together (with Jon McLaughlin) to write songs (still waiting to hear more info about this)

I don’t follow any of them, but many of the S7 contestants also seem to have stayed friends. I’ve seen reports of them showing up at each other’s concerts and other events.

Blake Lewis & Ellliott Yamin are roommates here in L.A. And I believe Blake & Chris Richardson are still very good friends.

  • suenigma

You tell me? Lol. It was ridiculous. They definitely started loosening the reigns in Season 8.

  • suenigma

I like to think so, because those are some of my favorites, but who knows how they would have behaved with untethered access to social media, and “absent parents” – TPTB? They seemed kinder and more mature than this lot, certainly, but who really knows.

  • Miles (Grumpy) (VI)

Maybe once the tour starts they won’t have so much “Idol” time on their hands. Hopefully they will be more worried about their performances than about each other. Down time sucks.

I hope the bus drivers carry tasers just is case but I think this is all just boredom. I know it bores me.

Angie had a Ustream with most of them and they all seemed to get along just fine. Kree was ill, Amber strolled in towards the end and Lazaro was a no show. May have been before they knew their roles on the tour.

The fans don’t really know… just snapshots of their personalities.

  • jms

For some reason, I can picture Curtis saying this to his own reflection…. lol

  • gem2477

It’s about Lazaro. Lazaro has a stutter and can’t sing, but Curtis, you can’t either. And I don’t want to hear you talk either cause of all the complaining and talking about how good you are. :P

  • ladymctech

…and Ace married Diana, LOL. So love as well as friendship is possible.

  • ladymctech

I’d say you are correct about Season 9. They banded together for the most part to try to overcome the negative reaction to their season.

  • ladymctech

Sad to say that it took this level of cruelty to generate some buzz about this season and their tour.

  • Miz

I think the biggest draw of this tour will be the in-fighting.

  • tucker davis

When you live through a really stressful event with others, it’s bound to bond you in ways most of us can’t understand. Going from being total unknowns to performing & being judged before millions on live tv is a feeling only those 10 young people can truly relate to. And for about 10 years, AI was the only game in town (at least in the U.S.) And the fact that the stress went on for months makes it understandable that many of these Idols form deep friendships borne out of survival skills.

Perhaps because Curtis left first, he didn’t bond quite as deeply as others have…lol.

  • Cindy

This isn’t the way to win fans while on tour. >_>

  • ohreli

Curtis is still crying that he thinks he was robbed of his AI victory.. And in his fantasies of his own greatness, he has chosen the most obvious and vulnerable ‘target’ as the object of his vengence….as if Lazaro stole the winner’s crown from him!! Is it possible that Curtis really has no clue that his negative comments make him much more of a jackass in the public eye than Lazaro will ever be-??

  • Miles (Grumpy) (VI)

He just tweeted this so maybe he just has bad moments or it is just one person that gets him going.

    Curtis Finch
    ?@CurtisAI12

@angiemiller Is going to SLAY on tour! You guys are going to be BLOWN AWAY!!

  • EB

Curtis is so lucky he even made the top 10 and I really don’t remember how or understand why that happened.

Lazaro I understood for awhile. He had some semblance of being cute and a sob story that could win anyone over. It also didn’t hurt him that the other guys were dull or total asshats like Curtis. In being arrogant and obnoxious from the very start and by comparison (Laz wasn’t an asshat until later lolz), Curtis probably helped him out a lot!

  • Mandy

I miss them too !!! It was so funny !!! Good Idol memories

  • Kariann Hart

Season 9 ranks around my 5th favorite season. I loved so many of the people on the show and the Concert tour was so good. It made you realize that Lee shouldn’t have won, but that’s life. It also brought out Siobhan’s “Rocker chick” and Casey J’s guitar expertise. The sales tickets may not have been good – but IMO I loved the tour.

  • Kariann Hart

That was a real surprise to me, too! I thought she might have “helped” him out by doing a duet of some sorts. She said Anthony was her best friend on the show. I am glad to hear that she is friends with David Cook, though.

  • LeahKittyS

I totally agree. Heck, the way Curtis is acting, I’m willing to forgive Lazaro for every missed note, forgotten lyric, and excuse he made.

  • SteelWauhterz

Does anyone really know the context of his tweet? Considering we saw on live TV one under-prepared, unteachable finalist completely self destruct on live TV. Any guesses who Curtis was talking about?

  • SteelWauhterz

I recall Laz doing the same thing on live TV….

  • Karen C

The fact that they now have access to social media and still don’t say anything about another contestant or anyone else even years later shows me that they wouldn’t have said anything against someone while they were on the show.

  • LeahKittyS

When did Lazaro ever say he didn’t think one of his cast mates could sing? After the “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch” disaster he just said none of them knew the song, not that they couldn’t sing. All his real insults came out online.

  • jazzontherocks

As one of Paul’s supporters, I can say that he really is a genuine, classy person. He would never badmouth anyone. I respect that he always steers clear of all dramas.

  • jazzontherocks

Paul is going to have to be the peacemaker of them all if a drama ever ensues in the boys’ bus. I respect him for always staying drama-free :)

  • doublering

I wish they would gwt done with this tour already and each one of the can move on, its sad to see3 girls like angie candice kree stuck in all of this I would wish they can go out and start making their own albums, im more dissapointed of wat amber said toward angie in the ask topic I fewl she is more jealous of her rather than trying to get along, im sure seeing angie recording and having highrr twitttter fans got to her head and she will continue that way whenever she gets the chance

  • LoneStranger
  • ohreli

I’ll repeat two comments I made three months ago, when Nick Boddington was dissing Lazaro on Twitter: “Can everyone just stop dissing each other on Twitter? Its really ugly.” And: “May I make a suggestion to the other contestants: Dissing Lazaro publicly on Twitter also leaves a bad taste in people’s mouths. Silence is golden.”

  • ohreli

They should bring Nicki and Mariah onstage then for the encore! LOL

  • b_james

Weirdly enough, I used to say that about Curtis.

  • jake

this is still the case and gets worse for the later venues.

  • jake

You are spot on. They seem oblivious to all of the problems surrounding this season. They keep tweeting about how great this tour is going to be! Huh? 10 shows were canceled before the tour starts and you can still get a block of 8 tickets for the opening show next week. they are oblivious and have become increasingly more unlikeable.

  • Ponkiiee

Amber dissed Angie on her ask.fm … unclassy.. she comes off as a jealous loser

  • Ponkiiee

LOL so true. Amber is a jealous loser. She expressed disdain that Angie got 2 amazing duets in the finale.. Angie doesn’t even know this is happening.. what a shame, I think Angie thinks Amber is her friend.

  • Ponkiiee

Angie just comes of as an energetic happy person. one that is hard to believe exists in the real world.. i guess that’s why she has so many haters and many fans at the same time.

  • Ponkiiee

Angie kept on posting on twitter about Kree’s public appearances on the Opry and where else and telling her fans to watch and support Kree. so no, not all idols are fake and backstabbers. but i do get the impression that Angie favors Kree among the others

  • Ponkiiee

make a make a suggestion? why don’t you look into Amber’s ask.fm and speculate whether or not she was dissing Angie.. classless.. I’m so thankful for people like Kree, Janelle, Angie, Paul and Candice who chose to remain silent about the people they dislike

  • Jasmine

She probably did…but to be fair, they seem to have buried the hatchet if Twitter is anything to go off of.

  • cerise

Adding to that, Carrie has remained good friends with Lindsey Cardinale (from Season 4 as well). Carrie also remained friends with Bo and Anthony after her season ended. Across different seasons, she’s close to David Cook, who appeared on her TV Holiday Special and was even mentioned in her album thank you notes. And then, there’s Kellie Pickler and Lauren Alaina too.

  • Ponkiiee

Same. I feel bad that Angie doesn’t know… And is being nice to her still

  • Ponkiiee

I think the girls love eachother.. I specifically adore kree and angie’s friendship. Like mother and daughter. And it’s funny to know kree irons her shirts cause Angie doesn’t know how to do it.
