Next week, Jamie Foxx mentors the Top 4 as they take on Songs of the Cinema. If you’ll recall, Foxx mentored the Top 5 last year for Rat Pack week.

After the jump, check out the 34-song list the kids will use to pick their songs. And man, the list is full of re-treads!  Yikes.  Not liking this list so much… Why are there so many bad 80′s songs on it?

At any rate, we might as well let the speculation begin. What do you think Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Casey James and Michael Lynche should sing?

On Wednesday, Daughtry will perform their new single, “September.” Bon Jovi is also set to perform.

    IMO – another boring theme and another dated song list. And a ton of boring, or just uncool songs.

    If anyone does “Jai Ho” or “Gangsta’s Paradise” I will fall over laughing. And no one is gonna pick “Jailhouse Rock” since they passed on it on Elvis week.

    I think that Big Mike could do something with “Summertime”.

    Lee – could do a great job with “Iris”.

    Crystal – I would love to hear her sing “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” — anything from a “great” movie like Glitter just needs to be sung!

    Casey – I would love to hear him do “Purple Rain” — something like the Darius Rucker version – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYNuGrvsGns

    And MJ ITA – death to anyone who picks Bohemian Rhap, Falling Slowly –

    I would add to the do not pick list: Over the Rainbow, Evergreen, My Heart Will Go On — and a few other songs on the list that require a 2+ octave range with control. Cause no one left on this show really should to there.

    Plus — who really wants to hear someone on Idol sing Ghostbusters?

    Theme from Caddyshack?!?! hahaha…please dress Big Mike up like the dancing gopher. i don’t think i could take him any less seriously than I already do.

    I totally want someone to do Lose Yourself…I just do. But I don’t think it would do anyone any favors unless they got super creative.

    I know a lot of people are banking on Lee or Casey to do Iris…but I would love to see Crystal make something of it.

    Ummm… how does someone “sing” Gonna Fly Now (Theme From Rocky) – Bill Conti? Isn’t that an instrumental, save for the background singers chanting “gonna fly now” in the chorus?

    Sure would. These songs will be very difficult for some, almost all, contestants. After listening to the Darius Rucker version of “Purple Rain”, I decided the only contestant who chooses it should be one who really wants to go home. Oy, these are just rough. A lot of “sleepy” or boring.

    Making a prediction about this week — more bad ratings. This theme and song list is not good — I agree with renaming it “Cheese Week”.

    Perhaps Ghostbusters is the way to go. At least it would be funny.

    RIDICULOUS SONGS ON THE LIST.

    WHo is going to sing — Ghostbusters ? Is that even a song ? It’s a chant.

    And honestly, are they going to ask these kids to learn Hindi by performing JAI HO ? Is the one who performs this expected to do their pointy Indian dance while singing this ? Where are Anoop and Sanjaya when you need them ?

    This night is simply designed to make it look like a train wreck.

    Okay well who ever said that AI is cutting edge. It’s a totally cheesy television show. Case in point, the sappy Disney group numbers the poor contestants are required to participate in every week. And the choices of songs every week. The cheese factor is HUGE!

    That being said and surrendering to the Velveeta, I would like to see Casey and Crystal sing the schmaltzy “I’ve Had The Time of My Life” or “Up Where We Belong” and Casey’s solo be Elvis’s Jailhouse Rock. Okay, I’m shielding myself from the Boo’s…

    Jedward did Ghostbusters on X-Factor – it was so bad it was hilarious. Don’t think this bunch could pull it off, though.

    If you don’t have good material, you don’t have a good show. Show biz 101. The lazy producers have been getting by on, at first, the novelty and popularity of the show. Until Season 7 and 8, it was running on empty, as if the show were entitled to an audience, as an ironclad annual tradition, like the finally-dead (I guess) Miss America contest. The show is chugging to a stop and it’s all the producers’ fault. The contestants this year are talented enough. they need better material and the audience does not want to hear the same old, awful songs over and over. Get better songs on the lists and retire songs done more than once on the show. Do not allow the same song to be repeated within the same three year period. Shake things up. To heck with middle America. Put some really wild, more contemporary songs on the list. Sublime, Nine Inch Nails. Something. Adam said that the contestants needed to wake up. I say the producers do.

    I’d like to see Casey do Jailhouse Rock and dance/run through the audience a la Taylor. At least it would liven things up.
    Don’t you just have a mental picture of Casey doing that?
