Michael Lynche – “Miss You” – R&B Style, had to do it twice. Audio problems. Didn’t sound good with eyes closed. Good stage presence, though
Didi Benami – “Play with Fire” – Dramatic, sexy version. Hit all the big notes
Casey James – “It’s All Over Now” – He was good. Played electric guitar, Southern Rock version
Lacey Brown – “Ruby Tuesday” – 4 people on strings. Awkward in the beginning, picked up steam.
Andrew Garcia – “Gimme Shelter” – No guitar, LOVED the beginning. The chorus not so much. Too low
Katie Stevens – “Wild Horses” – Sang it straight up. Pretty. Didn’t seem pageanty. Best Katie performance so far.
Tim Urban – “Under My Thumb” – Least favorite vocal. Reggae arrangement.
Siobhan Magnus – “Paint it Black” – Really good. Very dramatic, hit big high notes, Short barbie doll dress, combat boots, all in black.
Lee Dewyze – “Beast of Burden” – Radio ready version of the song. A little nervous in the beginning
Paige Miles – “Honky Tonk Woman” – Sounded great. Forgot the words. Didn’t sing the whole song. Didn’t sound sick.
Aaron Kelly – “Angie” – Kinda pulled it off. Wasn’t great. Too young to get the lyrics.
Crystal Bowersox – You Don’t Always Get What You Want” – AWESOME as always. Played guitar. Took it gospelly/Janis Joplin. Beautiful. Moving.

Listed in performance order.

Thanks to Jeff who provided the list, and Carie who added the commentary!

Tim Urban – Under My Thumb ????

Holy crap, that could be bad.

    Is that performance order?

And Katie – Wild Horses – quell surprise (rolling eyes, ugh)

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

Casey – All Over Now? That’s not even on the list?

  • terps

Big mistake picking wild horses, Simon will compare it to Susan Boyle. I would of bet money on Siobhan singing Paint it Black

  • songsungblue

Sad that Andrew is doing Gimme Shelter. That song needs a wailer like Crystal. I can’t imagine. Tim – Under My Thumb? Really? It ain’t about being under Jesus’s thumb, you know. Can’t wait to hear this. *eye roll*

But…happy about You Can’t Always Get What You Want! Rock on, smudgy teeth gal. Rock on.

  • St.Lucia

Katie does Wild Horses…why am I NOT surprised. Bring on the “Young it up” comments!

Performance order as well, I’m assuming!

    Yay for Crystal’s song choice!

At this rate I figure anything Aaron and Katie are singing is going to suck so I’ll just roll my eyes and die a little inside as they butcher The Stones.

    Tim….sigh. Go home.

  • hollygo9

oh Tim…oh Tim…this has the potential to be so bad. oh Tim.

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

Never mine it’s not All Over Now but It’s All Over Now. Really bad choice Casey!

  • Pam

    Paige – honky Tonk women

This one could be a trainwreck. Since Paige is not feeling well, I hope not for her sake anyway.

Now these are the 2 I can’t wait to hear and I hope they knock it out the park!

    Siobhan – paint it black
    Crystal. you don’t always get

Thanks to our “reporter” and thanks mj. :)

  • sbalk017

lmao @ the song choices. MJ, did you get any feedback on how the rehersal went?

  • october

I’m afraid Casey will go home with “It’s All Over Now”. How many times do the kids sing a song about going home, or saying good-bye, etc, and that is the end of the show for them. I hope Casey can bring it.

I’m guessing Crystal is going with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

These choices sound good to me.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

    Thanks :)

EW crystal has the pimp spot

And why does didi have the death spot??!!;(

I’m a little excited for her performance and Aaron and Tim and a couple others but overall this season is a FAIL

  • SybilTrelawney

Katie does SuBo. What a surprise. Not. Lacey doing Ruby Tuesday also not a surprise. What else could she possibly sing? And I don’t think she can sing that, either.

Andrew doing Gimme Shelter? Heh. The soft acoustic version in a monotone isn’t going to do it. I wanted this song for Crystal.

But Crystal is going to kill You Can’t Always Get What You Want.

Siobhan is going to kill Paint It Black.

Can’t wait to hear Cook do Jumping Jack Flash tomorrow.

Paige on Honky Tonk Woman? I hope she can sing, but even if her voice were 100%, I’m not feeling it.

Didi might be okay on Play With Fire. Tim on Under My Thumb? Well, at least it doesn’t have falsetto.

  • cheese

Tim must have heard that VFTW was considering changing to someone else. Katie will probably manage to sound even older than SuBo. Can’t wait to hear Crystal and Siobhan!

  • milajoy

MJ: Did we have the same spoiler? OR is yours a different one. My Spy didn’t tell m if this is the performance order, so I am just trying to confirm, but noticed that we both had the Crystal song spelled wrong…

  • holeighannie

Don’t screw this up, Lee! That’s all I ask for tonight, haha.

    Also, go Crystal! :D

ETA: If Siobhan doesn’t do the Vanessa Carlton version of Paint It Black, I’ll be shocked.

  • dancingqueen

Ack! I Love “Under My Thumb”, but, I don’t want Tim ruining it.

Can’t wait to see what Crystal does with “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. I like Siobhan, but, not “Paint It Black”. Maybe, Casey will Blues up “All Over Now”. Katie = Susan Boyle.

  • jersey

LOL MJ. Good job calling “Wild Horses” for Katie.

  • chearts77

I just went and listened to Play with Fire. I think Didi can pull it off. But, why oh why is she going 2nd? :( I think Crystal and Siobhan are going to steal the show tonight (surprise!!).

  • Cari

    is this the right order?

  • just sayin

Sure wish I could hear Alex and Lilly tonight.

  • Ratna12

Lee Dewyze – “Beast of Burden”
    Katie Stevens – Wild Horses

Oh, I like Lee’s song (when Bette Midler sang it years ago).
As for Katie, poor girl. I think Simon will tear her apart because of Susan Boyle, but maybe not if Katie sings it differently.
And no matter what, I’ll vote for Didi, just so she can go tour. Yeah, I don’t think TPTB like her and place her in that dead spot. I hope the pimp spot is not reserved for TPTB favorites only.

  • http://mattgiraudfans.net 3DoorsDownFan

Didn’t the spoiler person say how they did?

  • http://twitter.com/maxsmom61 CathyMK

I can hear Casey doing an acoustic, bluesy, haunting version of All Over Now and being fantastic. I fear that Katie’s voters may be the millions who bought SuBo’s record, and we’ll never get rid of her. I can’t see Mike doing a good job with Miss You. He’ll schmaltz it up and it’ll be gross. Looking forward to hearing what Lee, Crystal, and Siobhan come up with. This is going to be one of those fun nights that shows who’s good and who’s not, with a couple of breakout performances, and a bunch of train wrecks. Bring it on!

  • JudyOhio

Katie will probably manage to sound even older than SuBo.

LOL…….I think you’re right on that!

  • 2dogs

Wowza — some of this has trainwreck written all over it.

Tim Urban singing Under My Thumb? Maybe it would have been true for whatever Tim picked off the Stones menu, but this reeks of a cocker spaniel trying to pretend to be a Mastiff.

Katie and Wild Horses? Apparently she’s not afraid to dive into the pool of utterly predictable.

Casey and It’s All Over Now? Unless he somehow changes the basic pacing of the chorus, I just don’t see how this is going to work with his voice.

  • snood199

I’m actually intrigued to hear Michael do Miss You. I don’t want to hear Andrew Garcia ruin a rocker like Gimme Shelter by putting an acoustic guitar and the same damn arrangement he’s done with the rest of the songs to it. Katie=SuBo. But she won’t sell several million albums. I hope Tim doesn’t fuck up too badly, since I actually liked his Hallelujah. Excited for Siobhan and Crystal. Aaron is going to wreck Angie, which is one of my favorite Stones songs, so that will be painful. Paige can’t do rock- she hurt my ears on All Right Now. I like Lee’s song choice but he’ll probably be a pitchy mess again anyway.

  • sbalk017

Tim Urban – “Under My Thumb” – Least favorite vocal. Reggea arrangement.

    What????

  • karenw

yuck to Katie and Wild Horses .. so predictable

also yet again Aarron sings a song which somehow seems too old for him .. I know that the meaning of the song has never really been confirmed by Jagger (with some saying it’s about Angie Bowie, or even Bowie himself, or Keith Richard’s daughter or just a break up song) . and I know that you can be inlove/break up when you’re 16 but it just seems too old for him

  • dteixeira

    OMG. So excited for Didi!!!

  • holeighannie

Yay for the updated commentary…I have SO missed this part of Tuesday evenings, haha.

  • JudyOhio

Wonder what the person who got the spoilers means by “dramatic” for Siobhan’s “Paint it Black”? Hope she doesn’t go all slowwwww on it because I’m expecting her to be AWESOME tonight and kill it.

  • jersey

OMG Tim is embracing his VFTWness with a reggae version of “Under My Thumb”!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Yeah, Angie is totally the wrong song for Aaron. Too deep for him. Check out the Tori Amos version. I hope he goes. He should have gone last week.

  • SybilTrelawney

Reggae version of Under My Thumb. Man, this is going to be PRICELESS.

  • IdolThoughts

Does laryngitis cause one to forget their lyrics or is that called being unprepared? Just sayin…

Tim Urban – “Under My Thumb” – Least favorite vocal. Reggea arrangement.

    What????

    I second that.

  • movin2thabeet

Oy squared on Tim and Aaron. What are they now – competing for VFTW’s favors?

  • unique28v

Isn’t this the second time already that Crystal is getting the pimp spot?

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

Didi Benami – “Play with fire – Dramatic, sexy version. Hit all the big notes

    YAYYAYAYAYAYAYAY YAAAAAAY!!!!

  • CookifiedTexan

Reggae? Tim Urban? Do those two even need to be mentioned in the same sentence?

  • karenw

OMG Tim is embracing his VFTWness with a reggae version of “Under My Thumb”!!!!!

It has car crash written all over it .. lol

“yo hey man unter mee thumb .. shabah .. unter mee thumb .. shabah”

    yikes!!!!

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

Isn’t this the second time already that Crystal is getting the pimp spot?

No. She was second-to-last week one (Katie was last), first week two, and second to last week three (Lilly was last.)

  • unique28v

No. She was second-to-last week one (Katie was last), first week two, and second to last week three (Lilly was last.)

Ahhh ok. I just remember seeing her toward the end a lot. Thanks for the clarification!!

Anyways, I’m interested to hear all of them sing. Its funny how people can hear the same thing but have completely different views of it after the fact.

  • bean99

Oh oh, all my favorites except for Lee and Siobhan are in the first half. I’d better charged my cell to vote for them. I have some tough choices because I have 5 favorites. Not looking forward to seeing the raving that I’m sure Crystal will get. Too bad she doesn’t have the personality to go with her voice.

  • seriously

I think Andrew will do better with parameters. So theme weeks will help him, IMO. Excited for Lee, I just hope he shakes the nerves.

  • savgal

I bet Casey will sound great if he does “All Over Now” with an Allman Brothers vibe.
I really think this theme is a good one — lots to choose from.
Crystal should knock hers out of the park.
Also think “Miss You” can be done in an R&B style. Mike will be one of the top guys. Looking forward to Lee’s voice on “Beast of Burden”.

  • chessguy99

Looks like they are setting up Lacey, Andrew, Katie and Tim; for the B3 action. If Siobhan and Crystal are as epic as the spoiler describes, anyone in the first hour will have problems having their performance remembered. I think Mike, Didi and Casey have fans enough to see them through, but the rest are going to be in danger.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

OMG. Wasn’t I daring one of the Idols to sing “Under My Thumb”? Great song choice to sing on a show that has a huge female audience. LOL.

And a Reggae version on top of that? I cannot wait to see this.

  • GreenHippo

Aaron and “Angie”, not a fit at all. I will be VERY surpised if he can pull that off. Going down that list, he was the only one I went – HUH?
All the other I could see, even with a lot of imagination – Tim? anyone? and Katie’s pick, so pleasing the grandmas, that are watching.
For the rest I am very exited, I think it could all work. BUT I have to wait 3 1/2 more hours. Y’all better write really good comments, so I can follow somewhat!

  • druzilla

Save Tim Urban! Save Aaron Kelly!

  • Idolnewby

I gave up predicting how a performance would go after condemning Kris for his choice of Heartless last year. Take note of the comments and we will see if minds are changed after actually hearing them sing.

  • Cari

Soooo as I said before… Tim’s going out tonight?

  • whatever4444

Siobhan Magnus – “Paint it Black” – Really good. Very dramatic, hit big high notes, Short barbie doll dress, combat boots, all in black.

I’m so excited about Siobhan’s performance. That song is really cool and she has to kill!!
She is wearing combat boots!! Epic! I can feel it.
I’m glad she is one of the first because everybody will have to live up to her performance.

  • LoveDaRocker

    unique28v:
Isn’t this the second time already that Crystal is getting the pimp spot?

It didn’t work for Lilly, even though she should not have gone home regardless of turn, so …

  • JudyL

I’m not a fan of Tim Urban but I really hope the song choice and arrangement is not as awful as it sounds. Simon could get just plain cruel with this one. Sometimes something is so bad, a critique isn’t even necessary……a simple Randy-like ‘not good, dude’ is enough.

  • chessguy99

Isn’t this the second time already that Crystal is getting the pimp spot?

No, she has gotten next to last twice and a first, in the semis.

  • St.Lucia

Man, I hope someone can bring an element of surprise this season..(Siobhan I’m looking at you!) because these song choices look kinda predictable if I really stop and think about it. I figured Tim was either going to do “Under My Thumb” or “Get off my cloud”.

Figured Katie and Aaron would pick songs they don’t understand that are big ballads…so no surprise with Angie and Wild Horses here.

Crystal, while I like her choice, I’m not surprised one bit that’s what she’s singing.

The rest are predictable, predictable, predictable. Bleh.

I’m want some WTF moments with spoilers wondering how and why a person decided to sing that song that might make me agonize over it until show. I don’t want the WTF spoilers that confirm some people shouldn’t be in this competition at all at this point(cough…looking at you Tim, Aaron,Lacey and Katie) because they are karoake singers at best.

  • http://musicgoesforever.blogspot.com samgamgee

WTF, Katie and Aaron singing those songs? What do they know about the lyrics? I could care less if they hit the notes or what not, it’s just not right. Those songs you need to experience to earn the right to sing them.

  • giants4512003

I’m not too surprised about Crystal’s song choice. I was hoping for her to pick something unexpected and shock us. Guess not

  • merrymary

I won’t mind at all if katie, Andrew, Tim or Lacey go home….I thought Paige would be at the top of my list to leave, but she was good tonight.

  • jinxx315

Lacey Brown totally annoys me. She is trying to sound like Dido or Duffy or whatever. Ugh I hope she goes soon, she is so boring and always sings some slow song while sitting on the edge of the stage.
