You know, the guy sometimes seems like such a buffoon, but lest we forget he was a good enuf bassist for Aretha & the Rolling Stones to dial him up to do “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” with them…..

My fave rock bands have front men who strut, preen, dress crazy, grab their crotch, give us a visual show AND can song like crazy.

Matter of personal preference. I can’t say I have one type of front man that I’m drawn to time and again. I think what I find enteraining are musicians/singers who innately connect to their music and whose music connects with me, and are comfortable in their own skin and not coming off as poseury or faking something. Beyond DC & TA, my favorite bands include, let’s see, MCR, AIC, Arcade Fire, OLP, Sum 41 among others, and all have very different vibes. I also FLOVE Hawksley Workman and he and Cook are mucho differente. Although I’d love to see what they would come up with writing together. Pipe dream. Anyay, point being, I think Cook is plenty entertaining being Cook, so I was cool with him making the song his own rather than trying to out Mick Mick. And yeah, if Cookie grabbed his crotch, I’d probably fall out of my chair laughing. It’s just not… haaa. Not gonna happen.

I thought Orianthi was done in by the lack of backing tracks or singers. There’s a big difference: just you singing live vs. a wall of you singing on the track. It’s a great single but not done well on the idol stage.

I love Ke$ha’s Shtick so that performance gets a pass from me. I kept wondering how much those guys from 3Oh!3 made last night just talking a few lines.

Sorry to see Lacey go. True, it was inevitable. I was starting to really like her voice, but she has no idea what she wants to do with it. She’ll probably go the country route as long as there’s money in it.

I’m a Cook fan but this didn’t excite me. Not much he really could have done with it though. The guitar solo’s were nicely featured and I like the way Dave pulled “gas, gas, gas” and held it.

Big Mike is officially on my nerves.

I was kind of bored by Cook’s JJF, so kind of disappointed. It’s mostly not his fault, the song is simple and after awhile, bores me. But his vocals were good, and yes, the boys should really take note of how to, ya know, sing on pitch and yes, still be energetic. Plus he looked GREAT with the hair and love the red shirt and black suit. And yes, the hair was looking good.

I don’t dare watch Ke$ha and Orianthi. Maybe I’ll work my way up to it later.

Right people were in the bottom 3, Tim over Andrew if only because he deserved it over that arrangement he did. Seriously, WTF.

Goodness, ross, that is my absolutely favorite performance of Frank Sinatra’s( from the wonderful Anchors Aweigh )and actually the song I had in mind when I wrote that post! Just love that song.

Looked forward to seeing David Cook perform and I thought he did a credible job though the person who impressed me most was the guitarist with the black nail polish in his band. That guy can shred! To me, David exemplifies why I prefer my front man NOT to be rooted to the spot, strumming a guitar. In any case, the AI performance got me listening to the Stones’ version again and even 4 years ago at the Rio show (where the band played for 2 million people), Mick still showed more energy in his performance than any of the kids this week. http://tinyurl.com/cpem4q

Ok, I gotta disagree here about Jumpin’ Jack Flash. I loved David singing it, but it was more sedate than the high drama La Mick brought to it. Simple? Yes! Sure! But it’s a great song that should be roared, growled and danced for max effect.

I have Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” and “Take it Off” on my ipod. To me, they’re tons of fun to run to, dance to, clean house to. Being the “hot mess” is her (current) shtick. (I read an article predicting she will inevitably “reinvent” herself soon and evolve a “classier” look.) And I like hearing “According to You” on the radio – I think the lyrics are clever, the song’s catchy, and the guitar is fun (I don’t want to buy it, though.)

That said, last night I thought “Lacey the eliminated” actually sang better than Ke$ha and Orianthi (who was hard for me to hear and seemed breathless at one point). It just drove home for me how much commercial success seems ironically UNrelated to vocal talent. I knew that, but it really seemed on display to me last nite.

Weird, but the judges all seem stupid this season-just an impression I realize that but, Simon’s grouchy bored expressions don’t help.
And the ‘conflict’ between Ryan and Simon at start of shows this week were ugly.
Mostly, there is no incredibley exciting artist that has me intrigued for the entire week until the next show, as Adam was able to do last year.
