Update: According to Access Hollywood, Siobhan Magnus will sing “Paint it Black”.

The American Idol Top 12 will be singing the music of the Rolling Stones this week. And you can check out the entire list of songs the kids get to choose from over at iTunes.

  • Download songs from the Rolling Stones playlist HERE.

After the jump, take a peek at the entire list.

What do you think? Any songs missing from the list? Will the Top 12 do the Rolling Stones justice?

Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze should have an easy time this week picking songs, but I think the Stones catalog is vast and varied enough, each of the kids should find something suitable…

I double-dog-dare an Idol to sing “Under My Thumb”. Heh.

  • DLee

Katie Aaron should sing “Time is on My Side”. lol

I could see Lee and Crystal singing several of these. Lee, I think would do well with Angie or Let’s Spend the Night Together…I don’t know so may choices…

  • holeighannie

I just want someone to do Beast of Burden, cuz it’s my favorite…maybe all acoustic/sexy like Lifehouse’s cover.

  • DLee

Katie OR Aaron…can’t seem to edit.

  • DLee

I just want someone to do Beast of Burden,

Oh, that would be good, who? Big Mike?

  • DLee

Looking over these songs there is a lot of potential for some of these contestants to crash and burn.

  • monleo1705

I hope someone will do Wild Horse Reese witherspoon movie Fear’s version. I love the way that girl sang it. Not Susan Boyle version please. Maybe Didi…

  • SybilTrelawney

Poor little Alex was going to sing 19th Nervous Breakdown. Now maybe Didi can sing. It fits.

Aaron can sing Let’s Spend the Night Together and it’ll be the funniest thing ever.

Katie will sing the Susan Boyle version of Wild Horses and we’ll all fall asleep.

I’d like to hear Crystal sing Gimme Shelter.

I don’t care what Lee sings. Zzzzzzzz

Big Mike can sing Mother’s Little Helper, because, you may not have heard, but his wife had a baby recently.

I hope Tim sings Satisfaction because it will look so lame compared to Adam Lambert’s version last year.

Lacey can sing anything and it will suck, so I’m not worried about that. I’m still trying to figure out who is voting for her.

For Paige, this could be an interesting opportunity to bust out the big pipes she supposedly has and redeem herself.

Casey can have fun with this theme too. I loved Brown Sugar has a kid, and it suits his voice, but I’m not sure it’s a politically correct song to sing any more.

Andrew will sing Ruby Tuesday stripped down and make it really boring.

  • Margaux

Anyone who can rock should rock. This is not the week for ballads. The goal is to make us not even THINK about season 8 and “Satisfaction”. Yeah, that’s impossible.
‘Wild Horses” seems like a shoo-in for Siobhan or Crystal, but there’s the Susan Boyle issue. Yikes.

It’s tough — Tunes like “Honky Tonk Women” and “Tumbling Dice” could work for Paige to do a Tina Turner/Aretha-diva turn, but damn, those lyrics. Yikes again. Maybe “Miss You” would work.

Casey can do a real nice southern-rock style “Waiting on a Friend”.

One of the girls needs to google Marianne Faithfull and try “As Tears Go By”.

  • Margaux

For the girls who want to rock:

    Watch this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMF7JrPHT74

(Gilda Radner as Candy Slice sings “Gimme Mick”)

  • october

If anyone sings The Last Time or Miss You, that is the person I predict to go home.

  • sonyab

Well whatever they do, they better do it without a guitar.

  • karenc

I think Lee could do well with Can’t Always Get what you Want. It kind of fits in well with the type of music he does. Either that or Paint it Black because I think it’s the closest RS song to alternative rock and I think he could pull it off.

Maybe It’s Only Rock and Roll for Casey. Time is on my side for Crystal or maybe Didi.

Not really sure about anyone else. I don’t know all the songs on the list either, but it’s nice to have a list to go by.

I kind of think it’s better when they have the theme weeks and mentors, but are not just limited to the songs by that artist. Like having rock week or country week, and not just Rolling Stones week or Dolly Pardon week. It does really limit what the contestants can do. And I remember that for me, when they did this in the past, it kind of fell flat for me depending on who they had. Like, it was very hard for contestants to make a Neil Diamond song sound current, even though some were able to pull it off.

  • TwigLA

The Stones have something for everyone and if these contestants can’t find a good fit, they don’t belong there.

I’m expecting to hear ‘Ruby Tuesday’, ‘As Tears Go By’, ‘Wild Horses’, ‘Paint it Black’, ‘Angie’, ‘Waiting on a Friend’, ‘Fool To Cry’. I just hope everyone doesn’t pick ballads. We need something lively.

Margaux, thanks for the link to that Gilda Radner skit. I miss her.

  • JJ123

Big Mike can sing Mother’s Little Helper, because, you may not have heard, but his wife had a baby recently.

yikes! isn’t that song about taking valium? Maybe not a great choice haha

There’s so many great possiblities here for everyone but I think that they’ll somehow still find a way to make it the as exciting as watching grass grow…

Songs I’d like to see covered…
    Paint It Black
    Start Me Up
You Can’t Always Get What You Want
    Satisfaction
    Beast of Burden
    Brown Sugar
and even Mother’s Little Helper (just not by Mike, sorta creepy)

  • DLee

Well I am sure there will be more than one train wreck.

  • DLee

Can’t Always Get what you Want

If the person who sings this get cut, the farewell performance will be filled with irony.

  • TwigLA

I’m actually looking forward to this week. I think it will be interesting. No mentor?

  • TwigLA

    sonyab:

Well whatever they do, they better do it without a guitar.

Huh? WHy is that … because Mick can’t play?

  • just sayin

Pffffft. I’m still so sad about Alex and Lilly leaving, that I can’t even get into the Rolling Stones fun.

  • sonyab

    DLee:

Well I am sure there will be more than one train wreck.

ROFL! Well if they all just stand there stiff and not moving, then yes it will be. :)

  • sonyab

    TwigLA:

Huh? WHy is that … because Mick can’t play?

Uh no. :) I guess you didn’t read what I said on the night after the top 12 was announced. :) And Mick can’t play the guitar?

  • MISTICAT

Travis Tritt did a version of Honkey tonk woman. Casey needs to do that and bring the couthern rock country to it

  • holeighannie

Oh, that would be good, who? Big Mike?

You want me to actually pick someone? The horror. :P I honestly don’t know…Crystal’s my favorite but IDK if that would be a good choice for her. I don’t really want Big Mike to R&B slow jam his way through it, so not him…I guess I don’t really care, as long as it’s good. Which, I know, is really asking too much. ;)

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

I don’t know a lot of their songs but I want to hear brown sugar. Please no satisfaction (not at all because Adam owns the song, becuz he doesn’t)

Unfortunatly,I think Crystal will kill it

  • lorismile

I hope nobody does Gimme Shelter. That’s one of my favorite all time songs and I don’t need a train wreck on that song!

  • MalwareDie

I want Siobhan to take on Beast of Burden.

  • tierbee

Hmm, I think you’ll see plenty of guitar this week – would be weird not to with them doing the Stones. I want to see some performances with some *grit*, I love the Stones for that reason. Don’t go ironing out all the bumps (I’m looking at you Katie) and sing them like tralala ballads. Might be a good week for Lee, I’d think. I’m expecting good stuff out of Crystal. Oddly I’m kinda sad we won’t get to see what kind of nuttiness Todrick would have come up with ;).

I love the Stones. Love. Don’t make this painful for me, kids. Someone do Play With Fire and make it hot.

  • tierbee

I would guess there will be some train wrecks. Mick Jagger has such a distinctive voice, you have to do something other than just sing it straight up if you’re someone like Aaron or Katie with no grit in your voice or it’s going to sound like something out of a karaoke bar. Or change it up enough where you can *make* it suit your style.

  • jinxx315

I wish Crystal would put her guitar down and just let it rip on a hot rock number.

  • violet4ever

Ahhhh Rolling Stones!! I was a teen when Get Off of My Cloud was new. I bought the Sticky Fingers album brand new with the zipper in the cover. I played the bass in Sympathy for the Devil with a college band once. Saw the Stones live once too when I was really young, oddly in a big 10-act indoor show including Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, I think Martha and the Vandellas and others. Stones were the big final act.

I’d like big Mike to do Heart of Stone thought maybe he should do a fast one this week. Brown Sugar would be tough for anyone to pull off due to the lyrics. I hope Siobhan does something really outrageous. Like Sympathy for the Devil. Haha.

  • chearts77

tierbee – I thought I read somewhere that Todrick was going to sing “Satisfaction” if he made it to top 12 (so he can show off his dance moves – his words, not mine).

I think Didi could do The Sunday’s version of Wild Horses. Or, As Tears Go By.

I think Lee and Casey should be able to cruise through this week without much difficulty. Siobhan and Crystal too.

I’m interested to see how the youngsters do with this theme (Aaron and Katie).

  • Vital

Hmm, here’s what I’m thinking for everyone. No idea if my song suggestions are any good (since some of these Rolling Stone Songs I just listened to recently to get an idea of what they were), but anyway here it goes:

    Tim – Angie
(I’m thinking this would work well with his voice. I’d kind of like to see him do this, and hopefully he improves even more so this week and sings it really well.)

    Casey – Wild Horses

    Michael – Tumbling Dice

    Katie – Black Limousine
(I think she could make it really bluesy/jazzy and it would work well with her voice maybe.)

    Crystal – Start Me Up
(I think she could do a good job with that song and make it different, but really neat.)

    Andrew – Beast of Burden
(I really think he could do a good job with that song)

    Siobhan – Satisfaction
(I’d really like to see her do this, since I think she could pull it off in her own style.)

    Lacey – She’s a Rainbow
(I know she’d probably do a good job with Wild Horses, and Playing With Fire, but I think with this song she might be able to do more unique stuff with just singing how she does.)

    Lee – Paint It, Black
(Although I’m pretty sure there’s other songs in the bunch he could do a nice cover of. Though I’d kind of want to hear this song.)

Aaron – It’s All Over Now or Time is on my side
(I think both might suit his voice pretty well. It’s all over now doesn’t seem like such a good song title for wanting to stay though, but I like the song.)

    Paige – Gimme Shelter
(I think she could do a good job with this if she gets it together.)

    Didi – Shine a Light
(I really think she could interpret this song well and make it sound really nice with her vocals.)

  • DLee

I wish Crystal would put her guitar down and just let it rip on a hot rock number.

Didn’t she play the electric guitar once? That might work.

  • DLee

    Tim – Angie
(I’m thinking this would work well with his voice. I’d kind of like to see him do this, and hopefully he improves even more so this week and sings it really well.)

I think this would be a nice safe choice for him…he should definitely play it safe!

  • Vital

I think this would be a nice safe choice for him…he should definitely play it safe!

Yeah, at first I was thinking maybe a more upbeat song would be good for him since he’s been singing slower songs. But then with the Rolling Stones I don’t know if he could pull it off.
Angie could help showcase his vocals pretty well though. I thought it seemed like a safer song for him, but not necessarily so forgettable if he sings it well.

  • AndreaH

Does anyone know why the iTunes list is shorter than the actual Rolling Stones discography? Is the shorter list the one the Idols have to use for their song choices?

    http://www.rollingstones.com/discog/?v=aso&a=1

  • MaryS-NJ

I think Lee and Casey should be able to cruise through this week without much difficulty. Siobhan and Crystal too.

My prediction, unless the more favored contestant obviously screw up:

Lee, the judges’ favorite guy, will get “You made that sound very current.”

Casey, the dangerous potential dark horse, will get “We could hear that same performance in any bar”.

Crystal, the judges’ favorite girl will get, “Brilliant! That’s the one to beat”.

Siobhan, the dangerous potential dark horse will get, “That was just strange.”

Mike will get slight depimping “That’s not a good song choice for me, for you, Dawg, but you rocked it!”

Tim will get “That was very kareoke. You need to figure out what kind of artist you want to be.”

Katie will get “That was not a good song choice for a girl your age.”

Aaron will get “You made it sound like something from Glee.”

Andrew will get “You changed it so much it doesn’t even sound like the same song.”

Didi will get “Boring. You shouldn’t try to sing rock.”

Lacey will get “Not as good as Susan Boyle.”

Paige will get “You have a lot of potential, but I think you wasted this opportunity.”

    Not that I’m cynical or anything… ;)

  • DLee

    MaryS-NJ:

That was so funny and so true!!!!

  • gleekester

To help Paige succeed in the competition she needs to sing Jumping Jack Flash because there has been covers my Aretha and Tina Turner. I think she could have the moment that Simon wants from her. But I funny feeling that Sibohan will take this song right under her. What do you guys think?

  • tierbee

Hmm, I don’t see Tim’s voice fitting Angie. Let’s see, going through that list.

I’m going to say Lee for “Angie.” I want him to do a song that I don’t hate, for starters. And I think his gravelly voice would do well with that song.

I was thinking more “As Tears Go By” for Tim. It’s not very rangy, and he’s not much for range. It’s pretty, and he’s all puppy-ish. Could turn out to be boring but what he needs is to not stretch too far. And no falsetto, heh.

I’d like to see Casey jam on “Black Limousine.” Play some guitar, get all bluesy which suits him, and show some life up there.

Laughing a little bit about someone doing “Country Honk.”

Maybe Crystal could wail a little bit on “Gimme Shelter.” I want her to kinda rock out.

I was listening to “Heart of Stone” and thinking Big Mike could put a cool vibe to that song. I worry about him doing something more uptempo since he kinda flails around a bit. Heh.

Aaron can turn “The Last Time” into a sorta country jam.

Maybe Paige can do “Shine a Light” and show off her range a bit.

Andrew can do “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” Do something cool with it.

Siobhan has this cool kinda Irish singer voice that is really haunting. She could do something really haunting with “Love in Vain.” Or maybe she could jam on “Paint It Black” since she’s all quirky and cool and stuff. Because if you’re not, that one is going to turn out Karaoke.

Lacey would be the one I’d pick to do “Wild Horses,” actually, if anyone was going to do it. But you better nail it, though she probably needs a big moment to stay in it. She just has that kinda cool voice and I think the Sundays’ version would work for her.

Katie I’m at a loss. Katie singing the Stones sounds like a bad idea. There’s no grit to that girl, at all.

Didi, hmm. “Salt of the Earth?” I don’t know, I ran out of songs. Heh.

  • gangreen29

According to Access Hollywood Siobhan is singing Paint it Black.

According to Access Hollywood Siobhan is singing Paint it Black.

That could be cool. Get it, girl!

  • tierbee

OK, so give Didi “Love in Vain.” I cannot imagine her doing something uptempo from the Stones. She has a nice voice, haunting, sing something that showcases the vocals.

  • jammasta

According to Access Hollywood Siobhan is singing Paint it Black.

A predictable choice (not that predictability is a bad thing :D) that leaves me both excited and scared. I got the goosies everyone! I think that either way this goes, it’ll be one hell of a performance and quite memorable, whether it’s brilliant or a trainwreck (and, with my bias towards Siobhan, it’ll probably be brilliant).

  • MISTICAT

I like that choicee for shibhan. But that sucks hers is leaked and none of the others are. I think Crystal, Lee and Casey should have an easy time finding a song. Casey can blues it up country style pretty easy.

Not so predictable to those who don’t follow Idol like we do. The general viewer had one small mention of Siobhan being in a punk rock band. It is going to be a pleasant shock to most viewers when Siobhan lays out a punk/pop version of Paint It Black.

  • Vital

According to Access Hollywood Siobhan is singing Paint it Black.

That does sound like a good song choice for her. I’m excited to see her perform that. :)

  • sagi

I love that it is a Rolling Stones theme! Thinking it can be a great night for all if they pick the right song! Seeing the list of songs here makes me think of how often “Blinded by Rainbows” is overlooked. A beautiful thought provoking song! Probably not real AI friendly but it could be well received, on the other hand, as it is not a real familiar song to a lot of people.

  • Miss Chaos

I dont 100% believe that Siobhan is going to sing PIB. Why would she leak it? Arent they not supposed to say what they are singing?
I think Simon will hate that from her, he will say its too dark again. I hope she speeds it out and rocks it.

  • http://www.lindafoltz.com linda2u

Here are my picks for the twelve:

Siobhan – already said “Paint it Black”
    Mike – “Brown Sugar”
    Lee – “Honky Tonk Women”
    Tim – “She’s a Rainbow”
Casey – “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”
    Andrew – “Angie”
    Aaron – “Heart of Stone”
Katie – “Time is on my Side”
Crystal – “Happy” or “Get off of my Cloud” or “Shine a Light”
    Lacey – “Ruby Tuesday”
Didi – “As Tears Go By”
    Paige – “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”

  • alxsavage

Paint it Black for Siobhan? Exciting news! I have the feeling that she’s gonna kill it.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

This is such a horrible theme!

Sigh-now I think both Siobhan and Crystal will kill it…

  • sr4mjc

I really was hoping for Paint it Black from Siobhan, fantastic. I was listening to it in the car today and it’s a strange song to sing, but she’s a quirkly girl, I think she’ll do fine.

  • rayni

I think my purdy Casey is gonna own this week with his mad guitar skills. He better anyway.

  • carolinacharms

How is Sioban gonna make this song her own? There’s little progression in the song. I don’t think she’ll have another glass-shattering moment with this one.

  • RightNow

I think this be a tough week for Lacey, Tim, Aaron, Paige, Katie I just can’t equate Rolling Stones with any of them.

  • Lu

eep… the Rolling Stones certainly are not pretty are they?

  • ohmyra

I’m just a person who doesn’t want another to repeat a fave performance. She had better beat Ryan Star’s version or I will be pissed.

  • ohmyra

    Do you hear me Toddrick?

  • webster

Great theme for this point in the competition:

    - huge, well-known catalog, so everyone should be able to find choices they’ve heard.

    - lots of stylistic variety, so everyone who needs to show they can bring it down or ramp it up has good choices

    - audience knows the iconic arrangements, but most songs capable of very different takes. Contestants can play to their own strengths, whether that’s nailing a cover or arranging something totally new.

-with that much room to do well, weakness will be especially apparent, which makes is easier for the voting audience to use their own musical judgement. At least that portion of the voting audience that tries to use performance as their major criteria.

i sort of agree. just listened to the original on you tube. there’s not much range. even when siobhan was singing the aretha franklin song, her shining moment was the belting part and she’s just okay on the other parts.

don’t get me wrong, i love siobhan. i hope she kills this song. (cross fingers) the expectations would be so high. what would the quirky girl do? :)

  • JohnM

I double-dog-dare an Idol to sing “Under My Thumb”. Heh.

Oh, come on, mj. Let’s hear someone do Star Star. :-) Wait, that’s not on the list… hmm, wonder why…

RightNow: I think this be a tough week for Lacey, Tim, Aaron, Paige, Katie I just can’t equate Rolling Stones with any of them.

There are plenty of ballads for the non-rockers to do, so not a problem. Not that I want to hear Aaron or Katie do, well, anything, but still…

I’m interested to see Love In Vain on the list. I was wishing it would be, because it’s great for the bluesy folks (Crystal/Casey in particular), but I didn’t expect it, since it’s a Robert Johnson song, not a Stones song (though of course they made it famous). Obviously clearance wasn’t a problem. Mo’ blues, baby!

  • cookcricket

It’s so funny to me how many of these songs I don’t know by title, but once I look them up on the tube I’m like, Oh yeah.

paint it black, as tears go by, get off of my cloud…, I’m sure there are others just haven’t listened to them all.

pretty sure I’ve heard Angie, Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman

def. know satisfaction (of course), time is on my side, ruby tuesday, beast of burden, start me up, (not crazy about either of these), and you can’t always get what you want.

Whoever chooses you can’t always get what you want or ruby tuesday, better do an amazing job because these are my faves.

ETA: LOL and yeah, “Under my thumb”. Of course I knew this song.

She doesn’t have to have a glass-shattering moment. Look at her other two performances, Wicked Game and Rising Sun — excellent without that. She could easily “make it her own” by doing the same kind of haunting arrangement. However, given that she’s done two such arrangements (and just did one last week), I think she should do a full-tilt version — and if she wants to do the glass-shattering thing, she can easily jump up an octave (or two?!) on the line “until my darkness goes”. Just gotta play with the melody.

That’s how I am with Led Zeppelin. I know a lot of their album tracks like the back of my hand from hearing them so many times back in the early 70s, but I never knew the names of most of them — probably because I didn’t care about most of them! I think the only Zeppelin song I ever really liked is Ramble On, which has a great bass guitar part that I love to play myself. But I digress…

eep… the Rolling Stones certainly are not pretty are they?

They are old, get over it! They are also the greatest living rock band in existence. Most marriages (including their own) don’t last as long as Mick and Keith have. They are awesome. Don’t knock them unless you have seen them in person. The music and the energy is unbelievable. Did I mention I’m a fan? It will be interesting to see what the kids do with their music.

  • Ex-lurker

Love Is Strong from Voodoo Lounge is missing from the list. Would love to see Casey do this.

Haha, when I got a double CD set of theirs it was a mix of “I didn’t know that was *their* song” and “oh, yeah, that’s the name of it!” They have a really solid catalog of some really awesome music, forgot how much I loved them until I added onto my CD collection. My dad raised me on some good music – we went back and forth from Stones/Doors/Joplin/Hendrix/Zeppelin to all the Motown stuff Al Green/Smokey Robinson/Otis Redding/etc. Hooray for dad and his records! I might make him watch Idol Tuesday just for kicks ;)

I double-dog-dare an Idol to sing “Under My Thumb”.

Ha. I actually suggested the other day that Lee would sound good singing this. I guess I never really listened to the lyrics (would it really be any worse than Andrew and the rubbing?).

I know, maybe Cookie saw your dare and that’s what he’s singing on Wednesday!

  • newshound61

someone will have to sing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” heard that one on Glee the other night and since Katie is the resident Glee-style singer, I’d say that’s been assigned to her. Of course they may hand that one off to Aaron, he’s another young disney-esque singer. I find it utterly ludicrous for either one of them to be singing Stones music, just not their style. Of course, the theme favors the girls because there won’t be any direct comparisons to Mick. the problem for the guys will be changing it up enuf so that they don’t look ridiculous.

Don’t knock them unless you have seen them in person. The music and the energy is unbelievable. Did I mention I’m a fan? It will be interesting to see what the kids do with their music

revcat – I’m allowed to make an observation. I have nothing to “get over” thank you very much. I love their music and I HAVE seen them in person – on their tour in the mid 90s in San Antonio, Tx. Geesh.

Siobhan doing Paint It Black definitely has potential.

She could easily “make it her own” by doing the same kind of haunting arrangement. However, given that she’s done two such arrangements (and just did one last week), I think she should do a full-tilt version

I agree — when I first thought about this, all I could picture her doing to change it was to slow it down and make it menacing in a different way. But so much of the power of the song comes from its unrelenting impulsion, I hope she grabs hold of that and just goes with it. It could be terrific.

Katie singing the Stones is a WTF of a pretty high order, but she could do a pretty, poppy version of “As Tears Go By” and, if she manages to stay on key for a change, slide by.

ETA: One of the girls needs to google Marianne Faithfull and try “As Tears Go By”.

Yup! Exactly what I was thinking of.

As for Tim… I got nothing. There are no bloodless songs in the Rolling Stones’ catalogue.

Ditto Mike (I mean, I got nothing), because he’s surprised me at every performance and I have no idea what rabbit he’ll pull out of the hat this time.

I assume Casey will go for Midnight Rambler or hmm… Tumbling Dice? That’s gotten the country (Linda Ronstadt) treatment, but Casey could take it back to the original and blues it up. (Although would the “low down bitchin’” line get bleeped? LOL)

I’d like to hear Crystal (but only Crystal — please dear @god, not anyone else.) do Gimme Shelter (the Patti Smith version would be *amazing*). I’m not the hugest Stones fan, but that’s a desert island song for me. Meaning if anyone does it, they better do right by it.

OK, so maybe I am the only one left here that was happy Timm made it to Top12. (Yeah, I was shocked Alex didn’t make it but I was hoping for Andrew or Aaron going home instead of Alex, not Tim.)
Tim has been steadly improving and that’s the fun of it for me. I just want to see him a few more weeks. Is it so wrong?

He is not a Rocker, but he can certainly do something like Angie with guitar, and my fingers crossed, he will find some confidence to swing it. He needs to step up, otherwise next week will be the last week for sure. Stay away from Satisfaction. (It goes for everybody.)

Looking forward to see Casey singing anything up tempo from the list. He is the only one that I get the sense having a good time on the stage among the boys. Maybe Mike, too.

sdmama, I have a 14 year-old niece that convinced me to vote for Tim since Casey looked pretty good. The kid has potential and a great song choice could land him on the tour. I would hate to see both Aaron and Katie on the tour but I bet that is what Idol has in mind.

This is a great theme to start off with, and I can’t wait to see what Siobhan and Crystal do. No mention yet of a mentor?

The Rolling Stones catalog is rooted in blues. The genre easily lends itself to infinite interpretation in the hands of a skilled performer with the creative chops to step it up. These contestants are being handed the opportunity to really put musicianship on display and show us what they’ve got. Should be an interesting week with some surprises, both good and bad.

I actually feel the same way here.
There’s certain Rolling Stone songs that I really can’t see Tim doing, but then there are those that I think he could make more current to work for him.
And I was thinking Angie for him (mentioned some posts back).
I guess I agreed it’s a safer song choice for him, but then again the reason I was hoping he’d sing it is because I can kind of picture him making it sound really current.
I really think he’d be able to make that song sound like something you’d hear on a popular radio station today with his style. There are parts of it that I think he could change slightly to fit his voice better, without ruining the song.
Angie is the kind of song I think he could make his own, so I am hoping he does it.

And I definitely still think he needs to step it up this week, but I do like him. His voice has a really pleasant tone that I like.
He’s been a favorite of mine, even though I didn’t really mention much about that in my previous posts on this thread.

How is Sioban gonna make this song her own? There’s little progression in the song. I don’t think she’ll have another glass-shattering moment with this one.

I once had a compilation of about 50 covers of Paint It Black. It’s amazing how many different ways the song can be done. Many of them sounded nothing alike. I think she could pull off The Avengers version (70s punk) and probably get some unexpected fans.

Some interesting versions: Chris Farlowe, Inkubus Sukkubus (another female singer that would work great for her), REM, Vanessa Carlton, Mighty Lemon Drops, Hayseed Dixie (definitely an odd one), U2.
