lily scott is definitely my favorite- as soon as she started singing it felt like you were transported to another decade- in the best way possible. everything about the performance was impeccable, i love the tone of her voice and the little vibrato she adds at the end of notes. maybe her voice is “old-fashioned,” but to me she sounds more indie and she describes herself that way. how cool would it be if an “indie” girl’s music became really popular?

That would be totally cool! Lily’s sound is so authentic, like you are listening to someone who really knows music. It’s awesome to hear artists like her in this show.

Didi’s performance was just magical. It felt so pure and honest. That’s what music is all about.

Katie Stevens, Michael Lynche and Casey James were all good.

Also Lilly Scott, she was also very good, but I must say that I think her voice is somewhat old fashioned and I’m not sure how she would fit in the current mainstream scene.

I thought Didi Benami was just OK. I think she really had to strain her voice to sing certain notes. So that’s why I don’t love her like Janell and Crystal.

One quirky, interesting, non-pretty boy, that’s all I ask…….

Really… when was it, because after the Adam mention, I wondered who else they would pimp from previous seasons. I stepped out of the room for a moment, but asked my husband to watch for it.. because I KNEW it had to come. I really thing that previous season pimping should be an AI drinking game.

Not sure what time, maybe in the first half hour – but I remember sitting on the couch watching it, and looking at the tv to see Kris in the commercial.

Sometimes, it’s just the novelty of hearing a familiar song in a different way, and not the actual talent that impresses people.

Heartless is a good example – your take is exactly what I felt about it – in terms of it being more novelty that the song was being done so differently, but in the end I couldn’t help but think – I didn’t like the original at all, not liking the cover that much more.

Probably most of them. What are the odds that some 24 year old, even if they come up with idea, also has the musicianship to see that idea through without extensive help from Rickey? Especially considering they may only have a day or two to make it happen.

For all we know, Rickey may have heavily influenced all of the “re-inventions” people have been crediting to previous contestants in this very thread.

And still I quibble with the re-invention term. I’d really just like to call it: Guy in Flannel Shirt With Guitar Slows Down Tempo of Song or GFSWGSDT.

Not to say that i didn’t like it, because I did. Very much in fact. And, I don’t need Andrew to be some musical genius so early in the game anyway. If the performance is good, and comes across well on TV, I just can’t bring myself to care if they stole it from Youtube, some obscure bar band they saw in Kansas last year, some other reality show contestant or Rickey.

That’s a bummer. I figured he would have at least taken ” his version” from You Tube. Why don’t these “rearrangers” at least come up with a cover that isn’t on the freaking radio? If you are that good, pick a different Paula Abdul song! Or at the very least, don’t take credit for it!

Agreed. As a stand alone song, would it really hold up? IDK. But having said that, I thought Andrew sang it really well.
