The American Idol 2009 Summer tour is coming fast.   Regular readers of this blog know how I love the big cheesy summer karaoke fest.   I end up going to more concerts than I care to admit.

Those of you who plan to attend the tour, get ready to buy your tickets

Tickets for this summer’s tour are going on pre-sale Friday morning at 10 am.

To buy tickets presale you’ll need this password: Idols2009.

But if you miss the presale, not to worry–the tickets will go on public sale Saturday morning.

In my experience, there isn’t much difference between buying at the pre-sale or waiting for the public sale. In fact, I’ve had my best luck getting good seats waiting until a day or two before the show.

I got a favor to ask.   I’m a ticketmaster affiliate, and if you could possibly use the link posted below to buy your tickets, I would be so very grateful. Thanks peeps.   You can also use the ticketmaster link posted in the sidebar…

I’ve never been to any of the American Idol concerts but they sound fun! I can’t go to this one this year because Season 9 Idols are in Oakland, CA the very same day that David A is in San Jose, CA (and i already have tickets to that).

My friend and I have already planned out going to an Adam concert though!

  • Hoppy

Much as I would LOVE to see Adam, Allison and Kris. (And to an extent, Anoop and Matt.)

The frakkin’ tour isn’t coming to Vegas AGAIN. (Goodness, I am SO grateful that they deigned to come to us last year when they usually don’t so I could see Cook & co. be all live and magnificent.)

And I’m broke anyway, so even travelling to SoCal is not really an option. Idol bastards!

Arg…. one of only two reasons I can find fault with small town living- entertainment options. It’s either a flight or an overnighter for me and with family responsibilities I just can’t do it.

    Tubeys it is!

  • kresslia

Going to the Hamilton, ON one. Gonna be SO fun.

  • St.Lucia

I’m contemplating Indy again, but ugh, I just don’t know. I hope they put some more group numbers in or something because I liked a lot less of the contestants this season than last season. I loved a good half of the contestants last season, can’t say the same for this season so I’m not sure if I want to go and sit through 8 acts I’m not sure I’ll be able to stand.

but for Adam I just may endure it….

  • bean99

I love Anoop and Allison but am not going this year. I’m sure it will be the Adam show just like the season and I just couldn’t bear it or his theatrics.

  • yf7184

It appears there is no presale for the Philly show on 8/20. :-(

  • EllieA

Going to the KC show with a group of girlfriends and we are all going to be sporting Glambert t-shirts even though we are way too old for this sort of fantard crap. Look what you’ve reduced us to, Adam….

I’ll definitely have to wait and see how they format the show this year and who’s singing what. I don’t think I could stand last year’s individual 3-song sets with this group, especially if they mostly repeat songs they sang on the show.

  • stelladallas

Apparently the idols will be singing duets, trios, and other small group numbers according to Scott and Megan who were on my local fox station (via LA) this morning promoting the tour. He said it would be different from previous seasons.

  • holeighannie

I normally make a point of doing the pre-sale or buying as soon as the normal sale opens but I may also wait and see what the format is this year…last year was awesome because I love Jason so much, but while I LOVE a lot of them this year, I HATE just about as many, haha.

*I don’t really hate them, but you know. It has to be worth it for me to sit through Scott, Megan, and Lil. And kind of Michael.

**Oh, and Danny. How could I forget that. :x

  • jumpstart

I’d love an Adam, Allison, Kris & Matt concert but have really no interest in seeing anyone else. Guess I’ll wait for videos to hit youtube.

  • gingerly

No desire to go to the tour this year. YouTube will do me fine. Last year was the only time I went…doubt I ever will again.

  • poporange

Still deciding if I will go to the tour this year I heard other bloggers had fun in past years.
    Gingerly why?

  • cheese

Holy crap! Why do the prices so much higher this year? $85 to see a show that includes Michael Sarver, Megan Corkrey, Scott McIntyre, Danny Gokey and Lil Rounds? I don’t think so.

The setlist for the four people that I do like will have to be epic for me to shell out that much money for this bunch.

  • silverwings

Going to head out to NJ to see the tour this year (first time!).

Do you get better seats with the pre-sale or are you better off waiting till the tickets go out to the public?

  • adamlover

i have to go see adam…i had my finger on the button..got great great seats and the site timed me out…now all they have available are seats all the way up in nomans land..i am soo frustrated now i can scream!!!

  • silverwings

Haha, nevermind. Got great seats, off the floor. I’m excited!

  • Tess

Since this year’s performers seem to be better at performing as a group (lip synching aside) I’m hoping that they will do some more group performances rather than the boring mini concerts that was on the bill last year.

    Things I’d like to see:

The group number from Disco night with Paula’s cheoregraphy.
Dueling pianos from Matt and Scott.
    The girls backing up Anoop.
Adam and Allison’s and Kris and Danny’s rock duets (I think that the pressure being off Kris and Danny could do well with that song, their harmonies were excellent).
    Some A’capella quartets…with 4 part harmonies.
Kris & Megan doing a duet…I think that has some possibilities.

Anyone else have any suggestions or am I totally all wet, again (let me grab a towel).

Just got floor tickets – 8th row – WoW

  • gingerly

    Gingerly why?

I guess the same reason that I’ve never purchased music from any of them except one. They are overwhelmingly not my cup of tea. I’ve watched since the 2nd season (with the exception of season 5) but only got invested in one idol and that was last season.

yf7184: It appears there is no presale for the Philly show on 8/20. :-(

You might want to try tickets.com instead of ticketmaster.com. The show in our city wasn’t listed on ticketmaster.com, but I got an email from our venue saying that the presale would be through tickets.com.

ETA: Well, maybe never mind — I just checked tickets.com myself, and the only shows they list are Albany and Tulsa.

I was really struggling with the idea of buying tickets this year, given the ridiculous prices and the fact that so much of the top 10 is completely uninteresting and one of them (He Who Shall Not Be Named) is positively repellent. But…. My daughter was worried that we might never get to see Allison again, and she successfully played that fear on me, since an Allison concert is currently the top thing on my list of things to do before I die. :smile_wp: And we both would like to see Adam and are desperately hoping for the A&A duet (and my wife also wants to see A&A).

So, we took the plunge and spent the damn fortune this morning. I was frankly surprised that we couldn’t get as good tickets as last year, given the overall weakness of this lineup — I’m figuring maybe Adam alone is such a huge draw that he made this one sell faster. Of course, there’s always whatever ridiculous shenanigans the venues/promoters play with availability.

Oh, for an A&A concert, with Kris and maybe Anoop and Matt as openers….

I got my tickets today for the Atlanta show. I’ve never been to a show before, so I’m probably more excited than I should be.

I tried, but only shitty seats were available. I may try again Saturday.

  • janerazor

I’ve been to AI tours 5, 6, and 7. Each time, I waited until the last minute to get tickets, and I’ve gotten really good tickets every time. What I’ve done is starting about a month or so before the concert, I check ticketmaster, eBay, craigslist, and other ticket broker sites to get a feel of what’s out there and how much the tickets are going for. About a week before the concert, the venue randomly releases really good tickets. You have to just keep checking. I’ve scooped up some beauties!

I thought AI6 was the best concert, as I am not a big fan of the the mini-set formats of AI5 and AI7. AI6 just had a lot more going on in terms of costumes, staging, dancing. In fact, as much as I enjoyed last year’s concert, I have to admit that the general structure was really boring. Every Idol came out, sang, walked to this side of the stage, walked to that side of the stage, walked up the middle, and then left. Yawnsville. AI5 was largely that same, but at least that concert had a few more duets and such.

  • uagirl

I got floor tickets to the D.C. show, but now I am having some buyers remorse. I don’t know who I will go with because I am the only one I know that still likes Idol. I may drag my DH, but he may also kill me.

  • Victoria

This is my second year going to the Idol tour, and this time I got floor seats! Yay! Thanks for posting the password, MJ!

  • undercooked

Ok, I just pressed the ticketmaster link on MJ’s blog and got my tickets for the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There were no floor seats available, so I got 11th row on the first level. Me and my spunky six year old are going to go.

  • PattyH

Terrible seats coming up at Staples. I am going to wait for Saturday!

  • undercooked

Terrible seats coming up at Staples. I am going to wait for Saturday!

I think we are screwed here in Los Angeles. I wonder how many seats the idols get dibs on. Los Angeles is Adam’s adult hometown, so he’s got lots of people vying for them, plus AI here, etc, so I wonder if they get dibs too. And on top of all of that, we are competing with alot more people for sits.

If there are better seats on Saturday, I will cry. But right now, I’m ok with my first level, 11th row.

  • Michelle

Aw, darnit. I totally forgot till right now to check for tickets. I’m pulling floor F so I think I’ll just try my luck closer to the concert date.

  • ross

Got really good floor seats this morning. Never been to an AI concert before. Mainly going to see Kris but I’m sure the rest will be good, too. Just interested in seeing them all live. Yeah!

  • tmtpoole24

I went to the show last year at Conseco (Indianapolis) and bought two tickets from a “street vendor” for a TOTAL of 80.00, and the seats were just fine! So, I’ll wait again…

  • http://cookiesanon.livejournal.com BuckeyeGal007

I got great seats through the presale….7th row from the stage! My tix only cost $66….maybe it depends on the venue which determines price and what seats they release. I’m super excited.

  • iluvai

I got mine for August! Yahoo! I wish I would have seen the presale code earlier. Oh well, I still got decent seats. I’m pretty sure NU will sell out fast tomorrow.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/blue65pv544/ bobg

I just ours for Charlotte. I was surprised that floor seats were not available. I did get lower level.

  • beazley

First, thanks MJ for the presale password! This is the first year I’ve gotten it. Bought 3 tickets through the link. 67.50, plus 11.75, plus another 2.00 (fees). Ouch! The tickets were not as close as I was hoping for (although they aren’t bad at all!), but last year’s tickets for the same venue was quite a bit cheaper. (very good seats) Wonder if my not being able to get on early enough was the reason for the slight disappointment in seats? Like someone else, I have also gotten good seats closer to the concert. Still, it is a toss up from my experience. At any rate, always love to go and am excited to see this year’s group with my family. =)
