Apparently, his remarks had nothing to do with Qaasim and his potential to win American Idol 14. He just feels that it’s too early in the season to use the single save.

“If we lose one of the frontrunners, I think they will regret it,” said Scott. “If one of the top four or five who really feel like they’re starting to pull away from the pack have a bad night, all we can do is smile and wave.”

Methinks Scott is a little worried about losing his personal favorites! Jax, Joey Cook and Clark Beckham are three that have been consistent from week to week. The singers have also received praise from Scott at one time or another. He seems to really like Quentin Alexander as well.

Back in season 10, the judges saved Casey Abrams at Top 11 week, and then two weeks later, perceived front runner, Pia Toscano was eliminated without recourse. The judges may indeed be kicking themselves a week or two from now.

Scott, however, may be responsible for Qaasim’s success. He approached the singer before he performed and told him to leave it all on stage, which is exactly what he did.

From week to week, Scott said, someone new is struggling with the stress of being on American Idol. “The younger ones, because they don’t have anything to compare it to, they’re just like ‘Ahhhh … what are we gonna do?’” he explained.

On country contestant Maddie Walker, Scott says she has the raw talent, she just needs to keep working on the criticisms about her not showing enough personality.

“The curve is steep and the challenge is can she develop fast enough,” he said.

“If you’re an ‘80s fan … this is gonna be one of your favorite shows of the season,” Scott said. Eighties pop singer, Boy George will serve as co-mentor this week. Click to see the FULL list of 80’s week song choices.

Scott dished about Boy George earlier today in an interview with Ryan Seacrest.

“He has no filter and he was incredible,” praised Scott. “But I loved it because I said, ‘Ok, take us back to London in the early ’80s and tell us about your past,’ and all of the contestants were just mesmerized … He had great ideas from an emotional perspective and a delivery perspective, and so it was great to have him and really helped get the contestants in the mindset of how to best deliver these big hits from the ’80s.”

American Idol airs tonight at 8/7c pm on FOX.
