American Idol 14 – Party Songs Theme – What Should the Idols Sing?

Hey guys! This is Adam, here with another bunch of song suggestions for the American Idol contestants who make it to Thursday’s episode. The theme is, reportedly, “Party Songs” and here is what I think they should sing.  Only 11 contestants will get to perform after one is eliminated, but since the Top 12 have yet to be revealed, I’ve chosen songs for the entire Top 16.

This week on American Idol:

Wednesday March 11 – After the Top 12 are revealed, the contestants sing their audition songs. Viewers vote!
Thursday March 12 – One contestant is eliminated. The Top 11 sing Party Songs.

Now is it just me, or is this theme just an excuse to have the producers force the contestants to sing cringeworthy songs like Don’t Stop Believing, Party Rock Anthem, Cheeseburger in Paradise (my dad seemed to love Jimmy Buffet for some reason, so I know all his songs) or (dare I say), Stefano’s I’m On A Roll (okay, I will admit, sometimes when it comes on shuffle when I’m driving I might turn the volume up a little). Anyway, if you are thinking like me, take a sigh of relief, as you will find none of the aforementioned songs on my list of suggestions to the contestants

Ok, on to the topic at hand: this week’s theme. Your trusty writer, Adam, has been to many epic college party’s in his days (3 and counting!), so he handpicked certain party songs (both beats and slow-dance ones) as suggestions for the contestants. Check ’em out!

Boys:

Adam Ezegelian
1- Tongue Tied, by Grouplove. This song fits into his wheelhouse pretty well.
2- Footloose, from Footloose. Come on guys, you all know he is going to do this song.
3- All The Small Things, by Blink-182. This is one of my favorite songs at the moment, and I’d love to see what Adam does with it.

Clark Beckham
1- Raging Fire, by Phillip Phillips. Heck, the comparisons are already being made, maybe he should just embrace it and do a PP song.
2- This Love, by Maroon 5. This was quite the radio hit a few years back, but Clark’s energy should make it sound new and fresh.
3- Suit and Tie, by Justin Timberlake. Clark NEEDS to do something more modern already. If he busts this song out and pulls it off, no one can then argue that he isn’t current.

Daniel Seavey
1- I Lived, by OneRepublic. Daniel needs to keep it current, so this song will do just that.
2- Never Say Never, by The Fray. This could be a little hard to pull off, but if he does it right it could be a moment.
3- Pompeii, by Bastille. I think Daniel could do it justice.

Nick Fradiani
1- My Body, by Young The Giant. Drop the guitar and rock out!
2- Don’t, by Ed Sheeran. I love his cover of this song with his girlfriend. He could really bring it with this song.
3- Move Along, by The All American Rejects. This seems like a natural fit

Mark Andrew
1- Maps, by Maroon 5. It is relevant and current, which could help him out with votes.
2- Adorn, by Miguel. Keep it simple and just let the vocals do the work.
3- Wake Me Up, by Avicii. I think this would fit well!

Qaasim Middleton
1- Now That We Found Love, by Heavy D and the Boyz. The perfect fit!
2- The Way You Make Me Feel, by Michael Jackson. Bust out some moves and give us a show!
3- Runaway Baby, by Bruno Mars. He could totally slay this song

Quentin Alexander
1- Ride Wit Me, by Nelly. Do it acoustically and the judges will be raving about his artistry.
2- Smooth Criminal, by Michael Jackson. I would love if he did this song in a similar way to how Glee did it.
3- Glad You Came, by The Wanted. I would love to hear what Quentin does with this song.

Rayvon Owen
1- Geronimo, by Sheppard. I think this would actually really fit him!
2- Latch, by Disclosure. An excellent song for Rayvon’s voice.
3- Good Time, by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen. This could be a lot of fun to watch!

Girls:

Adanna Duru
1- Shake It Off, by Taylor Swift. I originally really wanted Lovey to do this song, but I think Adanna could kill it just as much as she could.
2- Elastic Heart, by Sia. Bring the drama and this could be an epic show.
3- Sweet Nothing, by Calvin Harris. I totally see Adanna doing a song like this

Alexis Gomez
1- I Want Crazy, by Hunter Hayes. I feel like this is a song Alexis would do and could really pull off.
2- Where The Blacktop Ends, by Keith Urban. Right in Alexis’s wheelhouse and she could totally put on a show with this song.
3- Turn On The Radio, by Reba. I think this is the perfect part dance song for Alexis!

JAX
1- Jar of Hearts, by Christina Perri. I’ve heard this a few times for slow dancing. I think JAX could slay it.
2- Listen To Your Heart, by DHT. Whether she decides to do the slow piano driven version or the dance remix, I think she could pull it off. I would prefer a piano version though.
3- Domino, by Jessie J. JAX is yet to go full on uptempo. This would be a great song for her to give it a shot.

Joey Cook
1- Chandelier, by Sia. She could totally make a creative and different arraignment of this song.
2- Cool Kids, by Echosmith. I’m sure she could do something different with this song.
3- Still Into You, by Paramore. I don’t know, I just see this working for her.

Loren Lott
1- I’m So Excited, by The Pointer Sisters. This seems like an obvious fit for Loren.
2- Closer, by Tegan and Sara. It is current and rangy, so Loren should be able to prove her vocal ability and relevance.
3- Miracle, by Cascada. I love this song and I see Loren really putting on a show with it.

Maddie Walker
1- Stand, by Rascal Flatts
2- Done, by The Band Perry. One of our last representation of country music in the competition, Maddie has been coming across a little uncomfortable on stage. I love Maddie, so maybe this song will help her loosen up and show she can have a blast on the stage.
3- Little Talks, by Of Monsters and Men. If Maddie decides to take a week off of country music, I would love to hear her try this song.

Sarina-Joi Crowe
1- Ghost, by Ella Henderson. Please Sarina?! Pretty please!?!?!?!?
2- Bang Bang, by Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. If not Ghost, this is my second hope.
3- My Kind Of Love, by Emeli Sande. A big voiced song that Sarina could definitely pull off.

Tyanna Jones
1- Happy, by Pharrell. I see her doing great things with this song.
2- Best Thing I Never Had, by Beyonce. Tyanna has the pipes to do this song justice.
3- Spotlight, by Jennifer Hudson. This song requires a lot of range, but I think Tyanna could do it justice.
