AMERICAN IDOL: Paul Jolley performs in front of the judges on AMERICAN IDOL airing live Wednesday, March 6 (8:00-10:00PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX. Copyright: FOX.

And the winner of the American Idol Top 10 guys poll is (Seacrest Pause) PAUL JOLLEY! And I couldn’t be any less surprised. Paul is good looking, sensitive, HAS MET CARRIE UNDERWOOD (smart name dropping there) and has a pleasing voice. I agreed with Keith Urban. Paul’s performance of “Just a Fool” would have been improved with some restraint on the choruses. But he really didn’t have much vocal competition last night. He’s easily though to the finals. Paul earned 22.6% of the vote.

In second place is Devin Velez. Also not a shock. He delivered one of the better vocals of the night, even if the song choice was super old-fashioned. He scored 18.75% of the vote. I’m pretty confident he’s a lock for the finals as well.

In third place is Burnell Taylor, who is a wonderful singer. I really hope he diversifies his song choices in the next couple of weeks. I don’t think he’ll have trouble advancing to the next round. He earned 18.63% of the vote.

I predict that Paul Jolley, Devin Velez and Burnell Taylor will make it to the finals. Lazaro Arbos didn’t score high on our poll, but I think there is no denying his popularity. He came in 5th place with 8.2% of the vote, but I think he’s going to advance easily.

So, who will take that last spot?

Curtis Finch Jr. delivered an expert performance that earned high praise from the judges, but I’m not convinced he’s connecting with America.

Nick Boddington and his piano playing ways could wind up being a dark horse. He came in 4th in our poll, with 12,96% of the vote.

Vincent Powell has a slim chance. He botched his performance last night, but he did have the pimp spot. He came in dead last in our poll with 1% of the vote. Ouch.

Elijah Liu and Cortez Shaw are fodder. Stick a fork in them…

That leaves the young Charlie Askew. The judges turning on him last night led to a groundswell of support for the troubled singer. It’s totally plausible that he could squeak into the finals via pity votes. I hope that doesn’t happen. Charlie needs to go home to his family. He doesn’t have the vocal chops or emotional stability to compete on Idol. Enough is enough.

It’s pretty certain there will be a few wildcards tonight, but I think they will be reserved for the girls. If there are three, the judges might toss one to a dude. In particular, if  America rejects Curtis Finch Jr., I think the judges would see that as a mistake that needs to be rectified…

What do you think? Who will make it into the finals?

And Carrie Underwood tweeted that she recognized Paul Jolley back :P. Funny.

Paul, Devin, and Burnell would be my definite choices. For the other two, Nick and probably Vincent, whose performance last night was terrible but last week was great.

I see Lazaro edging out one of these 5, however. I REALLY hope it’s not Paul, Devin, or Burnell.

  • Latin2

I think that Charlie might get a very large sympathy vote.

  • Latin2

Devin’s song choice is actually pretty smart because “Somos Novios” is a extremely popular in the Latino community. It is a broad base song in every Latin Community from Mexican-American to Cuban-American to Puerto Rican. It’s like “Sobor A Mi”. He mixed it up by singing the English version “It’s Impossible” for the non-Spanish speakers.

I see Paul, Lazaro, Devin, Burnell, and Charlie advancing. Charlie has gained a lot of support after yesterday. I agree with MJ in seeing Curtis be a possible wild card. I don’t think he’s that popular with the public as he seems to be with the judges. But who knows. He might be.

  • jcabby

Yeah, it’s one of these staple songs in Spanish everyone knows. I remember that song when I was a little girl. My mom even knows that song when she was young.
Devin appealed to a lot of people with that song choice.
It got a renewed popularity when Andrea Bocelli recently sang the song with Christina Aguilera for his album.

  • Latin2

That was in 2006, and Luis Miguel also renewed it and it was a big hit for him. It is like the Latino version of Whitney’s “I will always love you” :)

Idol should start to move into the Spanish language radio market.

I really hope Paul makes it to the top 10, he deserves the spot. He has the potential to do better in the competition. I heard that “Just a fool” move up 27 spot in itune top 200. So I take that as a good sign.

The 5 guys I want to be in the final 10 are Paul, Nick, Burnell, Devin and Vincent (Not sure he will make it since Curtis gave a better performance last night).

  • Latin2

Paul would add a different variety to the show.  Right now it is too R/B contestant dominated. But to be honest I don’t see Paul as a Country singer, but like a HAC singer.

I may be alone, and I surely didn’t vote, but I’d like to see Charlie make it.  :-) Burnell was my fave.  I didn’t see his audition, so the song choice didn’t bother me.

  • Miss Chaos

What did Charlie say, I am not getting sound from the video.  Thanks

As Simon would say does it really make a difference if lets say Curtis Nick or Vincent advance? No! because neither has a remote shot at winning

    “Charlie Askew’s Reaction”

Wait. So FOX is running an AI ad which consists of Charlie pleading with his “awkward turtles” to vote for him? WTF? I guess that answers the question about whether the producers are going to behave like human beings.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5IK3PM77MUXPFHZVNMHM3GIIMM Christina

okay i think PAUL, BURNELL, CURTIS, LAZARO AND DEVIN .

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5IK3PM77MUXPFHZVNMHM3GIIMM Christina

i dont think Nick will make it even though he did okay, same with Vincent. and cortez and elijah are goners.. only thing im not sure about charlie.

  • Liteasy

I hope Charlie doesn’t make it, or he’ll be going through the same rough stuff again each week.  He’s not ready for this competition.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I don’t think so. If Charlie does get into the final 10-13, the judges will never ever criticize Charlie again, so he’ll just coast until his fans can’t vote him along any more. Meanwhile, the pity vote will have caused a more worthy contestant from advancing.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Charlie said:

Everything that I’ve done so far, every song and outfit that I’ve chosen has been a part of me I’ve tried to tell a story with it, but you know, I’m asking all of you awkward turtles to vote out there (kisses turtle in his left hand), *sighs* because you know, you are what I do this for, and your support tonight was… it meant… it’s…it validated me.

    My Top 10 Predicton:

    1. Kree Harrison
    2. Amber Holcomb
    3. Angie Miller
    4. Candice Glover
    5. Breanna Steer — upset pick
    6. Devin Velez
    7. Paul Jolley
    8. Burnell Taylor
    9. Curtis Finch, Jr. — shakiest pick
    10. Lazaro Arbos

    Elijah Liu could overtake Curtis

    Janelle could overtake Breanna

If Charlie makes it, I hope Lazaro and Zoanette don’t, same goes for the other two, I’m hoping 0 to 1 of these three make it at best
