UPDATE: Burnell Taylor sings for his life. But the judges do NOT use the save. He is eliminated.

I’ll be liveblogging the American Idol results show right here. Carrie Underwood and Casey James are set to perform!

It’s not as if it’s never happened before. There have been many contestants who have worn out their welcome, so to speak. Not terrible people. Just singers who are WAY out of their league. There was John Stevens who outlasted Jennifer Hudson in Season 3. Sanjaya who went much farther than fans believed he deserved in Season 6 and the affable Tim Urban in Season 9 who appeared to be getting by week to week on a slide and a smile.

American Idol is a voting show, and fans vote for all sorts of reasons other than singing talent. So when it was revealed that Lazaro Arbos was not only safe, but in the TOP 3 of the week, did I take it in stride.

HELL NO. I took to twitter to vent. “YOU SUCK AMERICA WHAT THE EFF IS WRONG WITH YOU!”  It’s been a few hours, and I’m calm now, and ready to sort out my thoughts.

In lieu of Lazaro’s elimination, Burnell Taylor was the next logical contestant to go.  He has spent enough time in the bottom 3 to prove that he didn’t have the fan base to carry him through. Maybe that’s why the judges decided not to use the save on him. They also might be afraid that next week, one of their precious girls would get the boot, and there would be no recourse. Speaking of which…

And let’s face it. The boy is talented. But he’s only 18 and very very raw. He needs a few more years to mature before he’s a credible artist. And my advice to Burnell would be to immerse himself in music–both old and new! Study the masters A voice lesson or two might not hurt either.

Not only was Candice Glover not in the Top 3 with Kree Harrison and Amber Holcomb, but she was left out of ALL OF THE JUDGES LISTS, except for Mariah Carey. What the hell? Girlfriend has been TEARING IT UP on stage week in and week out. Are they actually going to bus her now? Because that little exercise–asking the judges to reveal their personal top 3–was all about telegraphing to America HOW they should be voting.  But obviously, America loves their Lazaro. I don’t think hints from the judges are going to influence the voting at this point.  In fact, it could have an opposite affect. From now on I’m going to make sure to throw Candice a few votes every week. I think she deserves to be in the Top 3, at least, when all is said and done.  But I’m thinking it’s about her marketability.  Kree, Amber and Angie are the most commercially marketable of the finalists.  Kree an Americana/country singer-songwriter, Amber as a pretty young pop artist and Angie in the Christian/pop crossover market. Nevertheless, the busing of such an obviously talented singer is irritating.

I hated seeing Janelle Arthur in the bottom 2.  Lazaro should have been there instead.  I was convinced that she had a strong fanbase, so I was a little surprised to see her there. But if I’m being honest–I’m glad it wasn’t Kree or Candice.

Lazaro improved this week. And he stopped whining and crying. So, maybe the voters thought he deserved another chance. All that careful faint praise from the judges, hoping to avoid a pity vote situation, backfired big time. Does Laz have so much momentum at this point, that he could make it into the Top 5 or even the Top 3?  There is no way he’ll win. If by some crazy chance he were to go head to head with ANY of the girls, he’d lose.  Plus, I can’t imagine his nerves improving. He has to learn TWO songs for next week. I don’t think he’ll be able to handle the pressure.

Maybe this week was a fluke. A weird confluence of factors that added up to mid-pack weirdness.  Maybe next week, the cosmos will right itself and Lazaro will be eliminated. Which brings us to…THE SAVE.

Yes, next week is supposedly the last week The Save can be used. And yes, because there were no wildcards, the season will come up short if there isn’t a week without an elimination.  That does NOT mean the producers will be forced to save Lazaro if he’s eliminated next week! Because there are no double eliminations to worry about, The Save could be extended a week. Or heck, TPTB could just declare Top 5 “Inspiration Week” and send NO ONE home–an Idol feel good moment!  There is NO FREAKING WAY Lazaro will be saved. I would not even think about it.  The producers must be rubbing their hands–they got a ton of water cooler mileage out of Lazaro this week.  The Top 3 was revealed ONLY because Lazaro was in it.

Isn’t it great to be getting double doses of Idol alums on these elimination shows?  The song Carrie Underwood sang was my least favorite of her singles, and she was a little wobbly on the chorus, but over all she looked and sounded great.  Casey James has a nice little country career going for him and that’s nice to see.  Between Casey and Crystal Bowersox (her new album is FANTASTIC. Go get it.) Season 9 isn’t looking so bad afterall!

***

Over 25 million votes came in! Thank you American Idol app!

The Top 7 hit the stage to sing Queen’s “Somebody to Love” – Candice Glover takin’ over the Amber Riley glory note! The performance wasn’t bad, actually.

Top 7 Perform – Somebody To Love – American… by IdolxMuzic

This week’s Ford Fiesta mission is “Who is your Idol”. The finalists create looks based on their musical influences. There was a photo shoot involved with a Ford Fiesta.

IT’S JIMMY IOVINE TIME: Jimmy is baffled by last night. All these musical genres (country, R&B, pop)  are related to rock. The problem last night? Nearly every singer picked the wrong song. Burnell got it all wrong. He was so behind the beat…there was so many great songs he could have chose from. At the very least, he’s in the bottom 2. Jimmy felt like he was at a wedding during “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Lazaro and Angie missed the point of the song. Kree picked the right song last night. She sings with dignity, even with a painful pinched nerve. Burnell finally found the right song with “The Letter”.  He’s singing great…until Candice came in. He fell through the trap door. Burnell should not sing with Candice again until he does his homework. Janelle did a competent job with “You May Be Right”. She should have gone with John Fogerty or a Bob Seeger song…She came in 4th last night. Lazaro did a reasonable job, but he didn’t like it as much as the judges. He’s in the bottom 2 or OUT. Jimmy hated the Kree/Amber/Janelle trio. It was like something out of Grease. He agrees with Nicki on that one. “Satisfaction” is a great song, but it doesn’t have the melody Candice needs to deliver a great performance (MIND MELD WITH JIMMY!) Amber is improving every week. She’s on her way to being a great singer. In the Top 3. Jimmy was pleased with Angie’s performance. Too bad the wind machine was on tornado setting. There are times when Angie is singing from her head. If she can get out of her head, she could go all the way. Amber, Angie and Kree were in his top 3. But he also loved Candice. Lazaro MUST GO HOME.

Season 9 American Idol alum, Casey James is back! And we see the highlights of his run (shirtless) (awesome guitar playing!). He’s working HARD, becoming one of the hottest new artists in Nashville!  Here he is to perform his new single “The Good Life.”  Casey is looking and sounding good!  Casey forgot his shirt at home. He had to run to the mall to grab a new one. He thought of arriving the way he eventually wound up in his audition, but thought better of it.  Aw. He bought gifts for all of the contestants. Very sweet.

Oh. The judges are going to reveal their personal Top 3

Keith – Angie Amber Kree
Nicki –  Angie Amber Kree – Nicki is miffed, because she didn’t know her picks would be revealed to the world. Really? Did she think Nigel was just chatting her up?
Randy – Angie Amber Kree
Mariah – Kree Amber Candice  - Mariah hated choosing three.

HOLY COW. America’s Top 3 is revealed, and LAZARO IS IN IT.  This is getting serious, people.  He doesn’t seem surprised at all. Candice looks pissed!  Yep. She belongs in that Top 3 for sure.

Next, it’s Carrie Underwood. Old footage of Carrie. Aw. What a cute little farm girl she was! She had never even been on a plane! Now she’s been all over the world.  She performs her new single, “See You Again.”  She looks beautiful. The wind machine is kept to a gentle breeze as Carrie sings, so pretty.  She’s so happy to be back! It’s been 8 years since she took the crown. Aw. She gets teary talking about the show.

Now that Lazaro is out of the picture, I’m thinking the judges will save whomever is eliminated tonight…

More results right now.  Candice had to be jabbed to get off of the coach when her name was called.  Amber is also safe.  The bottom 2 is Burnell and Janelle.  Nicki says when you go home now, at this stage, it’s not a failure. Mariah says, whoever is going home tonight, is coming back for the tour. She loves them both dearly.

The person at risk of elimination tonight is Burnell Taylor.  Before Janelle takes off, she says to Burnell, “You are going to kill it!” He sings “I Am Ready For Love” by India Arie.  Candice is sobbing while he sings.  Mariah is really upset too. She turns her chair DRAMATICALLY. Barely able to look at him.  He heads over to his fellow Idols and sings his last words to Amber. I think he really does have a crush on her!  The judges give him a standing ovation.  Nobody seemed to be discussing anything during his song.

In the end—there wasn’t a consensus. Burnell Taylor is sent home.

LOL only 25 million votes?? That’s significantly down compared to past years.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Hasn’t Freddy Mercury suffered enough? lol

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Wonder who dresses Lazaro? He needs help.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

    This is Horrible

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that he likes to dress like that. lol

  • ht23

Wonder if they’re going to divide the contestants into two groups and have one pick which group is safe, like in previous years.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Apparently not. Poor Freddie is rolling in his grave. Again.

  • jcabby

    Those are fun. LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

    That was Horrible

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Lazaro’s pant is uhh pretty interesting lol

  • Devin Harper

Hopefully it’s not Lazaro that has to choose, since that would guarantee he is safe.

  • WilkesG

Which group performances have you ever liked? I can’t really say it’s horrible unless there have been some good ones.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

He looks like he has a sock or a codpiece in his pants. And the prints on them, less than desirable.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

I thought they were shooting it in 3D for a minute and had to adjust my eyes lol

  • LeoCS

and then pretend one of the frontrunners (angie, kree or Candice) had a shocking elimination just to save her

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Yes, all the new things they are doing are just not as much fun.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Dj532 Derrick Johnson

i have liked past group performances. This just felt and looked uncomfortable and did not sound good.

  • Matt Gillam

    Amber is SEXY!

  • jcabby

    Uh oh Jimmy. LOL

  • Devin Harper

Jimmy is right the song choices were lackluster. But that’s nothing new.

    Oh! Didn’t notice. ;) #packingit

  • Reflects On Life

    thanks!

  • vd88

Off topic but did you guys know that during these duets/trios they have teleprompters that show you the song lyrics and yet Lazaro keeps forgetting lyrics. It makes no sense like the words are on the screen, what is the problem. I’m sorry but Lazaro is just hopeless. lol

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Maybe he has a stutter and dyslexia.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Lazaro is acting like this is some big joke or something. That’s what bothers me the most about him.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

It kind of is a big joke this season, frankly.

  • LucyWillis1996

I honestly think he’s doing all he can to get off the show and let it get behind him. He’s gotten to the point where he just fakes it and clearly is no longer having fun. Part of me feels like he thought Idol would help him to gain a degree of acceptance based on his struggle and he realized the world is full of bullies who love to tear people down.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    Jimmy being creepy with Amber

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

I still cannot believe Jimmy is not a judge… I hope he consider becoming a judge next year

  • blackberryharvest

    Not a big deal.

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

I didn’t love Angie’s performance (of a NON-CLASSIC rock song, btw). They love everything she does.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

At least they gave Jimmy a couple more chances to bash him before they send him on his way.

  • Devin Harper

I’d get rid of Mariah, Nicki, or Randy to get Jimmy on the panel.

  • fuzzywuzzy

No, Ryan. The final decision is not the viewers/voters as long as the judges’ save hasn’t been used. lol

  • Devin Harper

It’s got to be awkward in the studio sessions between Lazaro and Jimmy. Wish i could be a fly on the wall.

  • girlygirl

Are they going to wait until the last 10 minutes to announce any results — like they did last week?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Keith, Jimmy, and maybe someone like Kelly Rowland or Jennifer Nettles

  • fuzzywuzzy

I vote for a sock. lol

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

You would think that someone who is facing such adversity as he is would pick up his balls, fight back, and at least TRY to give a good performance. If for nothing else, do it for himself and to silence his critics.

  • blackberryharvest

Great group number! These are always fun. I love the chemistry between the contestants.

  • blackberryharvest

    I hope so-I liked that!

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Of course they are. We have to suffer through Casey James and Carrie Underwood first. lol

  • guinness416

I can’t imagine Jimmy being patient with Laz’s stammer in the slightest.

  • jcabby

    Good to see Casey back!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

nice video package for casey! loved seeing the flashback to season 9 with kara! too bad we didnt see simon lol

  • tucker davis

I’d forgotten how good Casey was…and a fine looking lad!

and he has the nerves in check.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

    Definitely

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

Casey has a hot bod. Just sayin’

  • jcabby

How sweet of Casey! Reminds me of how Carrie and Scotty brought gifts to the contestants.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

Jessica Sanchez also got gifts for them too.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

I bet Casey gave them all bottles of Jack Daniels hehe

  • Reflects On Life

Casey’s a better singer and musician than the songs he’s doing, if that makes any sense. “Jealous Guy” was one of the best male performances on Idol ever. His new music just sounds like bar band music by comparison.

  • http://twitter.com/nsideguy25 Chris

I think this is what they are building to imho

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

Jealous Guy was an awesome surprise.

  • Liteasy

If you saw him in person, you wouldn’t think that – he’s awesome.

  • tucker davis

I like Casey a lot. Didn’t watch much during his season, but I hope he gets a huge bump from this appearance. He seems to have great confidence as a musician!

  • hypomanicpixie

Casey did such a kind thing for the contestants, and I liked his song.

  • LeoCS

ok, a girl is gonna win. do they need to humiliate the guys?

  • elliegrll

This bit of filler is awkward and unnecessary. Now is the time to start revealing some of the results. The tone of this show is just off.

  • perfectstorm

I like how they are presenting video packages for the alums. Nice.

  • tucker davis

Ok, now I’ve got to look up “Jealous Guy”. Thanks!

  • Devin Harper

Okay Idol, this is the worst kind of filler. Idol needs to go back to 30 minutes. Pronto.

  • vd88

Agreed him just accepting defeat is just ridiculous. I mean I could see if he was actually trying than okay but he gives all these excuses and forgetting lyrics even if they’re right in front of you. I just don’t get it and it’s just one thing after another with him, like it’s just so annoying.

  • tucker davis

How does Mariah make her top 3 about herself?

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

This sure is putting the judges on the spot.

  • elliegrll

I don’t think that Jimmy has patience for Lazaro’s excuses.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Dahlin, why not. It’s about her, ya know

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

    Happy Kree is safe! Angie..whatevs.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

lol! love it. take that jimmy

  • Devin Harper

    WTF.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

    Ew, no!

  • fuzzywuzzy

F*ck. Lazaro is in the top 3. This season of Idol is really screwed.

  • Miss Blue

Omg. Kill me now. America proves it’s insane, once again.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

OMGosh. Lazaro, darn vote for the worst.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

    BOOOOOOOO

  • dawnage01

Lazaro is in the top 3?!?! HELL NAW!!!!!!

  • Axxxel

    yeah for Casey James !!

  • guinness416

Haha we are giggling over here. What can you even say. “Whats New Pussycat” is on for next week!

  • NinaFaith

OH HELL NO! I really don’t get this.

  • supersonic

Lazaro in the top three. He’s never leaving.

  • Reflects On Life

Lazaro in top 3? What a spin! Oh, the drama!

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Lazaro LOL this is too funny

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

    NO NO NO NO

  • tucker davis

I’ll bet VFTW is really crowing right now!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I’m betting Candice is the shock boot. Regardless, all of the girls are getting saved.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Cant get into this season at all.

  • H.A.

Lazaro!!!. WTF. This show is a joke.

  • Devin Harper

Lazaro is probably going to win this whole thing. *facepalm*

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

Whoever is in the room with Jimmy Iovine, please remove all sharp objects.

  • justmefornow

LOL! I hope he wins. TPTB deserve it! LMFAO!!!!!

  • Reflects On Life

I’m sure you are right. This is just from watching him on TV and in videos. His type of music usually is best experienced live.

  • lila6089

hahahah! He might just win this competition……….

  • guinness416

Jimmy just downed another bottle of pepto bismol :)

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

    I would supervote for that!

  • stef

    nooooooooo!

  • blackberryharvest

He’s not. He was super close to leaving last week.

  • WilkesG

Well they probably could have done their normal top three, bottom three thing, and ask one to choose….because it would have been kind of a surprise either way.

  • AGM2123

    Nooooo

  • chillj

America seems to be punking the show with its votes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

I’m happy knee AND angie are safe

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s the biggest joke season ever. Much worse than the Sanjaya season.

  • vdawg

Lazaro in the top 3. OMG what is wrong with America.

  • teekee

    Okay then.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Yep, and maybe some vodka to mix it with.

  • Devin Harper

I’m calling it now: If Lazaro forgets his lyrics next week, I’m starting a petition to have him disqualified. Nothing personal.

  • AGM2123

Wait was Casey James there? I missed it?

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

I actually enjoyed when the top 11 performed “As” last year.

Almost everything about that performance was perfect! And, unlike the current group numbers, was done live.

  • tucker davis

Does this mean Jimmy doesn’t know the results???

  • http://twitter.com/nsideguy25 Chris

Lol will they use the save tonight? Hum!

  • jcabby

    LMAO!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

He will. As they get further along, they have to learn more songs.

  • NinaFaith

I’ll sign it. Even though I’m not an American….

  • perfectstorm

Might as well call it now. the winner of AI Season 12, Lazaro Arbos

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Vote for the worst. Voting is down this season. Only 25 million. They have a chance of pulling this off. This is their last season, so I hear.

  • WilkesG

Well they should just save the save for next week if Burnell goes home, because a girl will likely be at the bottom next week. The audience manipulation right now is crazy. They want SO bad for Lazaro to go home…this SHOULD rest all opinions of people thinking it’s fixed and votes don’t matter…but of course it won’t change some from thinking that.

  • chillj

Something has caught the voters’ fancy, but I suspect it isn’t his singing.

  • Guest

    I.AM.WEAK! Haaaaaaaaajhhhaa! #LazaroGotSpecialPowers

Looks like the “sock trick” worked well in his favor.

I wonder if Lazaro will let little Lazarus rise again next week! Bahaha!

  • WilkesG

He obviously doesn’t when he does his recaps.

  • elliegrll

They have to sing two songs next week, and we know that is just one too many songs for Lazaro to handle.

  • EB

Congrats to Lazaro, lmao. This is hilarious, but also so sad.

  • LeoCS

Last week was the first time that he was on the bottom 3. His fans knew they had to vote harder than ever. Maybe this is finally the season which VFTW will crown a legitimate pick. lol

  • hypomanicpixie

Seacrest, April Fool’s Day is over.

  • woodchuck25

    LONG LIVE LAZARO!

  • H.A.

At this point I hope Lazaro does win. Put a nail in this coffin and end this show. It seems everyone has checked out from TPTB to even the voters.

  • woodchuck25

I totally thought they were damning him with faint praise, but no. He is as terrible as he is unstoppable. This season would be so boring without him, admit it.

  • Devin Harper

Carrie, I love seeing you on Idol. I’m proud of how far you have come since Idol.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

As terrible as he is, I want this too. After the way they tried to stack the deck to get a girl winner, they deserve a Lazaro win.

  • Katie mea

I in no way shape or form feel sorry for him, out of thousands of people look where he, look at the money he is making, he is a cute guy with a stutter who can sing farely well, but he needs to go now, he is sub par compared to the singers that are left and he is painful to watch anymore, you just cringe

  • jcabby

    Carrie! Gorgeous, talented, and amazing!

  • teekee

    And me, a vodka/cranberry. Lol!

  • http://twitter.com/MikhailXO MichaelG (MikhailXO)

Me too. Serve them right for their manipulations.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

    Beautiful dress, love the color

  • tucker davis

At least in Carrie, Idol can brag they produced a real star!!

  • woodchuck25

    Sangria for me!

  • http://twitter.com/PattiHum Pat H

Are you effin kidding me?! Lazaro in Top 3! What is wrong with the voters!!!!!!

  • LeoCS

Burnel must be shitting in his pants.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

    I.AM.WEAK! Haaaaaaaaajhhhaa! #LazaroGotSpecialPowers

Looks like the “sock trick” worked well in his favor.

I wonder if Lazaro will let “Little Lazarus” rise again next week! Bahaha!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Fun fact. Carrie is from a town 30 miles away from my mine.

  • Nostradamas

Oh look, it’s plastic Barbie Underwood…not.a.fan….

  • Devin Harper

I love this song, but I think Cupid’s Got a Shotgun would have been an excellent single, But I still love Carrie!

  • HKfan

Jimmy would be useless as a judge, the only reason he’s on point is because he knows the results and reads the blogs to see what the viewers are saying….anyone could be good in those circumstances.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

    true

  • chillj

It has got to be awkward in a session between Lazaro and any contestant. How would you look forward to singing with him next week?

  • stef

Carrie is wearing a mildly poufy dress with a slightly high waist. Should we start a rumor lol?

  • guinness416

Lots of good cuban cocktails! Laz can drive us all to drink.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Carrie sounds a little strained and drowned out here to me. Always thought she was overrated.

  • fuzzywuzzy

They are voting for Lazaro for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with singing ability. lol

  • chillj

    Nice to see you back.

  • brenoga

OH MY GOD. Can you imagine if Lazaro wins the whole thing?!?!?! That would be AWKWARD. And also really really bad for the show, I think.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

Used to like her, but she hasn’t sounded good live in quite awhile. Weird and nasally. Maybe she always sounded that way and I didn’t notice.

  • jcabby

How to use a wind machine: See Carrie Underwood

  • stef

Maybe they can find an old arrest record for Lazaro and disqualify him

  • guinness416

Haha sock trick? My husband was weirdly interested in Lazaro’s tight trousers last night, alright. Is that the secret weapon?

  • LucyWillis1996

Maybe it is time to just name Lazaro the winner. Oh dear.

  • EB

I love her dress too! She is gorgeous.

  • http://twitter.com/Loxodonta_Stylz Rico Suricata

    Nice!

  • guinness416

Driving under influence of too much mango sorbet?

  • Reflects On Life

Well, she does seem to have a tummy pooch going… ;)

  • woodchuck25

Yea I never understood the conspiracy theorists… I mean if they didn’t count the votes, why bother with all the tactics and manipulation from contestant choice, song choice, order, etc.?

  • girlygirl

I’m going to LMAO if Lazaro wins this season and Interscope has to sign him

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

thank god Kree is not in the Bottom

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Maybe he will do Bridge Over Troubled Water. lol

  • guinness416

Lazaro hasn’t cracked a smile on that sofa since the announcement. He looks grim. I wonder if he wanted to go home.

  • g122y

Carrie’s voice is not as strong as it before…She needs to rest her voice

  • YankeeFan08

Carrie’s song is boring! Her performance seems a little off.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    Or invoke “the clause”. lol

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Trust me, this isnt representative of all of us Americans lol

  • Devin Harper

Probably wants to avoid a studio session with Jimmy.

  • Reflects On Life

Maybe they can make a children’s album with him.

  • teekee

    Who will the save?

  • woodchuck25

If it’s anyone but Burnell, they will be saved.

  • H.A.

Lazaro has the Hispanic voters. Watch out for them. Ask President Obama.

  • g122y

I super love Carrie however she needs to rest her voice.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Any excuse works in his case lol

  • woodchuck25

    Take it to RedState, please.

  • jcabby

Carrie seemed emotional. Aww, she must’ve reflected how far she has come since being a farm girl in Oklahoma.

  • blackberryharvest

Lazaro was JUST in the bottom 3 last week. Why do people think he’s winning?

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

At this point, TPTB need to sacrifice a gal to save Burnell Taylor. Once Arbos adds the “any winner who isn’t a girl” vote to his coalition, he’s going to be hard to stop.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Burnell is the sacrificial lamb. lol

  • LucyWillis1996

I know how horrible this sounds, but he’s been doing better since he stopped crying. If they want to bus him, they need to have him pour tears.

  • jumpstart

It would be highly entertaining – and – serve them right.

  • elliegrll

Giving the top 3 is going to backfire on the producers, since it may cause people not to vote next week.

I can’t get upset, if Amber would pick better songs, and establish an emotional connection with the songs and the audience, she’d be in the top 3. Candice is great, but she needs to show more personality, didn’t have the greatest song choice either. Plus, it’s not her fault, but being in a cast with Burnell, Lazaro, Devin and others doesn’t help her. All the things that she does well is lost in the mist of their mediocrity.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Maybe, he’s starting to feel guilty, knowing that he’s a far poorer singer than any of the contestants who aren’t in the top 3.

  • HermeticallySealed

I see they have changed the format, yet again.

  • stef

Hard to imagine any of these girls getting fewer votes than Burnell except possibly Amber

  • LeoCS

because it would be fun if it happened

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

she’s been touring a lot so i think thats why she is tired

  • woodchuck25

    I’m thinking it’s more just wishful thinking…

  • fuzzywuzzy

    YES!! AMBER IS SAFE!!

  • HermeticallySealed

I don’t know. i don’t think they would save Amber.

  • AGM2123

Awww I hope Janelle is safe.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

no one if Nikki has her way

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

IMO, Janelle should have been there at the bottom based on last night. Lazaro as well.

  • stef

Oh, wow. I guess some of us here had viewers who had the same opinion of Janelle’s singing last night, even though in person the judges raved.
Generally I’d think Janelle has a following. Maybe the vocals hurt her, or just took for granted.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Are there that many Hispanic voters who are deaf? lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=754136041 Jason Gorny

burnell just totally checked out amber’s butt lol

  • Miss Blue

Janelle is not my favorite but I cannot believe she is in the bottom 2. No way.

  • Reflects On Life

This is a tough bottom 2. Neither should be saved, though I like them both. The others (save Lazaro) are more promising.

  • AGM2123

I agree she wasn’t good last night, but I’ve liked her on previous weeks.

  • tucker davis

Nicki’s words were actually pretty good for the goner.

  • stef

I have too, some of the recent weeks particularly

  • NinaFaith

If Janelle got the least votes I hope they’ll save her. No way she should be going home before Lazaro.

  • abl890

Ryan, never said it was an official bottom two, correct?

  • vdawg

I loved Carrie and Casey performances. I hate that Janelle is in bottom two, they will not save her.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Imagine if Lazaro wins and has to perform across the country to promote his first album? Oh lawd. lol Imagine his first video. Move over AL lol

  • stef

With this scare I think they might save it for Kree or Candice or Amber or Angie

  • elliegrll

I like that Janelle has improved since the first week. She’s not perfect, but her confidence is something that Kree and Candice seem to lack. Because of the confidence alone, I’d use the save on her. Hopefully, Burnell is at the bottom.

  • girlygirl

why wouldn’t they save her? I think they’d save any of the girls.

  • Devin Harper

People on Twitter are not happy that Lazaro is still going to be on the show next week..

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

Only 2 more weeks to use it.

  • WestiesRule

Every year good contestants get screwed by the joke they have to put in… I hope Jimmy vomits and I’m sure ass hat Nigel loves it… Lazaro …. really America? Why the show can’t shake the joke reputation it has earned.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bug-Menot/100003601718986 Bug Menot

Because his “fans” are the same ones who elect WGWG. They are now motivated to vote because so many want him gone while other Idol watchers are mostly apathetic.

  • MayMirabella

I have bad feeling Lazaro is going to last till final three or four

  • NinaFaith

For some reason I thought they had to use the save tonight, but if not, I think you’re right. Unfortunately for Janelle, but I would understand that decision.

  • http://twitter.com/Joystickenvy Joystickenvy

    I’m so shocked!

  • disqus_OQtSh4KUbM

    maybe he can’t read?

  • LucyWillis1996

They may pull a Melanie Amaro on him.

  • Katie mea

ugh Lazaro top 3? Gross, we have to sit through more of him? shees

  • HermeticallySealed

People on twitter are never happy. Ever. It’s part of the terms and conditions.

  • H.A.

Just to be clear what I meant was Lazaro has a strong voting block not to be messed with.

  • http://twitter.com/Falfor Connie

    Getting a female winner.

  • tucker davis

    I didn’t hear…did Ryan say Janelle was bottom 2?

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

How the hell is Lazaro signing along to Burnell when he can’t remember his own lyrics. lol

  • jms

    Lazaro is safe. TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

I ALMOST want him to win to shove it in the producers’ faces that they really horribly f*cked up this season (Excuse me for being too nice there, I’d probably use up the asterisks in the world to say how I really feel :P), but then he’ll probably think “OMG A GIRL NEEDS TO WIN” and f*ck up Season 13 just as badly.

  • jumpstart

Not a Burnell fan – but Lazaro over him? People are insane.

  • HermeticallySealed

Iono, Burnell isn’t exactly a great singer himself.

  • Devin Harper

    True. lol.

  • MayMirabella

They might keep save for next week if it is Amber or Candice

  • chillj

Someone voted for him. (Wasn’t me.)

  • Da 1 N Only

He’ll go before that because each week you have to gain more votes as contestants are eliminated, but still it will be way to late.

  • FinalFantasy13

I thought carrie sounded great just like her album… great to see her back espically siince she is so far above this show.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Burnell does sound harsh tonight though :( way too much gutteral melisma

  • AGM2123

Sad that of all the guys, Lazaro is the one who lasts. However, even though Burnell is better, I’ve had a low opinion of him since he said he didn’t know “Let it Be.”

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

No surprise. He wasn’t getting many votes.

  • Miss Blue

Way to let the kid down easy, Randy. Or not. Geez, could he be a bigger jackass?

  • guinness416

Aww Randy’s an ass but I think it’s better to rip the bandage off personally. Like getting laid off!

  • HKfan

She was my 2nd favourite last night.

  • Da 1 N Only

They had to, they couldn’t take that risk no matter how revolting it is to have Lazaro as the last guy standing.

  • LeoCS

I love how kind Randy gives the good news to the contestants. “Bye Brunell, why are you still here?”

  • dawnage01

Goodness, who is voting for Lazaro?? Like, seriously. He needs to go.

  • fuzzywuzzy

No. It’s entirely possible that Amber or Candice had the second lowest votes. After the top 3 were announced, Ryan just announced the rest as “the next one who is safe”, without regard to their ranking.

  • woodchuck25

My bad, I just have a very sensitive crackpot alarm and it sounded like one of the typical tropes haha

  • Da 1 N Only

Agreed, does no good drawing it out.

  • girlygirl

On another note — 25 million votes seems low for this point of the competition. Yes/no?

  • tucker davis

    I agree…don’t drag it out!

  • stef

If they have to use the save next week or lose it, and if it’s Lazaro at the bottom, that would be some satisfaction when they just let it go wasted lol.
Bye Burnell, I liked him more than most of the guys. That singout wasn’t his very best though.

  • Devin Harper

Of all the guys this season, Lazaro is the last one standing..*facepalm*

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Ha, so much for those claims that people were saying that Nicki was rude and rushing out of the studio without saying goodbye. She walked right up to Burnell.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Well, at least he isnt a WGWG, but I would even trade him for one of those right now.

  • Chris

One by one, all the guys fall down. This really could be an all girl finales

  • Devin Harper

I’d take 10 WGWGs in place of Lazaro.

  • Da 1 N Only

That’s a lock at this point

  • Reflects On Life

I guess with 4 singing shows a year, you don’t have to take voting as seriously on any 1 of them.

  • supersonic

Aw. Poor Burnell. He goes while Lazaro stays. A shame, really.

  • tucker davis

yes. I haven’t voted at all this season.

  • girlygirl

If they have to use the save next week for Lazaro, that might be the funniest moment in Idol history.

Seriously, I don’t feel sorry for TPTB. They did this to themselves by refusing to put through any male contestants that people are interested in, and then giving Lazaro the sympathy vote edit for the first few weeks.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Having a contestant like Lazaro in the final 10 is why people don’t take Idol seriously. I can’t blame them at all.

  • guinness416

Burnell seemed popular with the gals, I hope they don’t take it out on Lazaro or that could be one awkward house haha. It’s not his fault that’s how Amerrica voted!

  • NinaFaith

I feel bad for Burnell. Wasn’t my favorite, but he has an interesting voice and seems like a nice kid.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I could easily see him staying while Amber and Janelle leave. He could even knock off Candice, Kree or Angie.

  • fuzzywuzzy

People who are deaf/hard of hearing who feel sorry for him.

  • H.A.

At this point I don’t even believe the votes. I don’t put anything past Idol and TPTB. They already know who they want as their winner.

  • teekee

Candace is in for an uphill battle. The judges have no faith in her having a viable career. Will that knowledge affect her confidence? I

  • FinalFantasy13

im glad lazaro is still here.. if he wasn’t what would we have left to talk about?

  • NinaFaith

I feel as if nobody in the house actually liked Lazaro anyway, not sure if I’m right, but he doesn’t seem that connected to the rest of the group.

  • http://www.facebook.com/aleeatorio Alexandre Oliveira

funny thing is that Lazaro is not the poor boy from audition rounds, he is becoming kind of cocky, I wonder who in this world votes for him

  • MissMyEm

I thought Janelle was popular but I guess I’m wrong. I guess too many WGWG is enough for them. Idol doesn’t want too many PYBCS (Pretty Young Blonde Country Singers). I mean…we have Carrie, Kellie, Lauren…so Janelle would be just one more.

Is Jimmy liking anyone this year?

  • elliegrll

They always give people sympathy edits. And to be honest, this group of girls aren’t great either. They lack personality, at times stage presence, confidence, at least 3 don’t pick good songs, and only one knows how to infuse a song wit emotion and personality. As a whole this cast is just not very interesting.

  • tucker davis

Guess Lazaro will get a room by himself now.

  • LucyWillis1996

So Lazaro goes first next week in the death spot and they over praise all the girls while driving him over the bus with each critique. “That was so much better than Lazaro.” “Good! That is how Lazaro should have done his song.” and “You remembered your lyrics, unlike Lazaro.”

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

Or his boyfriend will join him to keep him company.

  • Miss Blue

Ummm,,,,no it isn’t. As it seems Laz is still there. Ugh. I hate even typing that.

  • elliegrll

He was either too lazy or too raw to change his song last night so that it would fit his voice, so it’s really not a shame.

  • vdawg

I’m glad they did not use save on Burnell. They will have to use it next week if Janelle or Lazaro are not the bottom person. Gee another week of Lazaro not learning songs. It was nice seeing a WGWG again on stage! Maybe next year we can have more if a girl wins,

  • Chablis

Crowd seemed to be upset save not used. This could bite them. No one should go home with Lazaro still standing. I hope they use a save next week and the following week and one their chosen ones goes home. This us so stupid.

  • Xentusk

Nicki is wrong, Lazaro doesn’t look like Ricky Ricardo, he’s Arthur Fonzerelli and the speed boat is warming up as he’s tying on the ski’s……
    :P

  • alonzo7

Really scary to see Lazaro in the top three-if he wins over any of these girls it’s the end for American idol because it’s definitely not about talent-I blame the judges for putting him through. Will have to amp up my voting to keep this show credible.

  • http://twitter.com/krbcan KRB TWIT BITES

When Burnell picks the right songs for his voice (that has been his problem), he is AMAZING. Ranks right up there with Candice & Angie when all of them are at their best.

  • H.A.

Candice or Amber could have been the bottom 2. Ryan never said Janelle was the bottom 2. Maybe they want her fans to step it up a little more. Wishful thinking.

  • teekee

I don’t think it’s confidence, I think it’s that open personality, that they lack.

  • fuzzywuzzy

They can invoke “the clause” if they want to get the winner that they want.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Arbos has a pretty strong coalition of people who respond to:

    (a) His music.
    (b) His tight pants.
    (c) His underdog status as a courageous stutterer who carries on (carries on!) despite criticism.
    (d) His mild improvements and increasingly sassy attitude (look for “but he connects to the songs!” to start being widely said).
    (e) His VFTW-iness as a focus for anti-fans and hate voters.

To this, he has just added the people who will vote for any dude as “more deserving” than the dreaded Girl Winner.

  • Devin Harper

Somebody needs to call Sherlock Holmes and get him to figure out how Lazaro is still here.

  • KrisKD

Even though I expected it to be Burnell, I am disappointed in seeing him go. Burnell and Candace are my favorite contestants this year. I really love Burnell’s voice. I am glad he has the opportunity to tour.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Sure it is. Lazaro plays the victim card to the hilt, and he knows that it’s getting him sympathy and votes.

  • HopeForMusic

I agree that it’s a shame. I know that I’m probably alone in this, but this whole cast are so boring that I liked Burnell. He at least seemed quirky, and had something that I just can’t put my finger on. I even liked his funny little hand motions as opposed to most of the others who just stood there. I also thought he had room for growth, so I’m sad, as I don’t expect much in the way of improvement from the rest. A good voice is just not enough for me.

  • vdawg

I think TPTB are pushing Angie and Amber since they think they are more marketable than Kree or Candice, they do not want Janelle to win because they have Lauren and they do not want another cute young female country singer.

  • Reflects On Life

AI has officially jumped the shark.

  • justmefornow

TPTB’s agenda of a “girl winner at all costs” may blow up in their faces.
I think the peasants may be revolting, lol.

  • voicesinmyhead

Lazaro has no problem singing a song that isn’t meant for him. It’s amazing he knew Ready for Love when he didn’t even practice! What’s up with that?

I’m pretty sure if Lazaro farted an entire song on stage he’d make it top 3 because it ain’t his singing getting him through.

  • g122y

Kree is ready for Opry! She has market

  • valarie

I still wonder how the ability to play one or more instruments became a disqualifer for the guys. David Cook, Kris Allen and Scotty McCreery are all wonderful vocalists, and P2 knows how to make the most of his limited range. How are really bad male singers who don’play instruments supposed to be better?
For the rest of the competition, I will be voting for Lázaro, even though I can’t stance his ‘singing’. It is my one finger salute to Ken Warwick and the revenge of the sswi singer songwriter with instrument.

  • http://twitter.com/krbcan KRB TWIT BITES

I don’t know about that — just because a person does or doesn’t know a song — popular or not — I don’t think that should be held against them or for them. What should really count her is their singing ability, not their knowledge of songs from the past.

  • bahogbugan_simj

“David Cook, Kris Allen and Scotty McCreery are all wonderful vocalists,”

    ?que?

  • Katie mea

I know, right? They actually deserve to have one of the worst singers ever win this year for what they did to get a girl winner, it would serve them right haha

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

I think there’s going to be some sentiment going that way, and it’s too bad. Making the show even less credible — with a winner who’s barely functional on stage — doesn’t strike a blow for justice for WGWGs. It tars them retroactively with the same brush of having been on that stupid show.

The best thing for winners, past and future, is for the show to promote a variety of people who are viable recording artists.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

The good news: if Kree was in the top 3 while going early and being low energy, she’s in a great position with voters. I’d love a Kree win.

The bad news: the voting from Lazaro on down.

  • jms

It’s seriously almost rotten that Lazaro is the last guy standing. A bit funny, sure, but rotten. Producers, you REALLY f*cked up this season, and you should be out of Idol jobs for… well, a lot of f*ck ups this season.

And I hope to the flying spaghetti monster that Amber chooses something uptempo next week. She reminds me so much of Pia. So much vocal talent and great looking, but SO INCREDIBLY BORING. I liked her solo in the group performance, actually. She can sing upbeat. So do it!

Is anyone else excited for S13, though? It seems like every f*cked up season is followed by a good one. I don’t want to say I’ve developed an “IDGAF” attitude about this season, but it’s a really irritating season. I wish I didn’t care as much as I do!

  • phil2501

Nicki was just crying talking to Burnell.

  • LeoCS

    crocodile tears, probably

  • Guest

Nigel is desperate to find a pic of Lazaro with a boyfriend right now to send to TMZ.

  • Larc

Lazaro is seriously in the Top 3??? Sounds as if Idol voters may need hearing and psychological tests before being allowed to vote. ;)

  • KrisKD

I agree. Didn’t she say something about how she was ready for all the guys to be gone so there would be a real competition?

  • Nostradamas

He just needs to head over to VFTW…

  • Nostradamas
  • ninergrl6

I saw him perform at a local club for a radio station event a few months ago. He’s SO GOOD and still so humble & friendly. I’m really happy for his success.

  • albean99

That’s just so wrong. Lazaro in top 6? I can’t remember every season but he’s got to be the worst at this point. I don’t get the love for Amber. She’s got a good voice but she leaves me cold. I prefer Kree & Angie but Candice probably has the best voice of the bunch.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Naaah, boyfriend just makes for livelier fan fic.

A photo of indiscretions with underage livestock might do it, if only by causing fans to fear that anybody that intimate with cattle might “go country.”

  • elliegrll

.Nicki likes Burnell, but that doesn’t meant that she doesn’t know that there are 5 people in the competition who are better than him

  • valarie

    Dear Ken and Nigel,
This is what your heavy handed manipulation got you. You new American Idol is Lázaro what’s his name. I feel sorry for Jimmy. I hope he finds a loophole.

  • alonzo7

Guess I now have to stop splitting my votes between all five girls-pick two girls and go with them as Lazaro will steamroll to the win as the only guy left. It just boggles my mind that all these young girls don’t care a lick if he sings well-just that he’s cute. By picking one or two at least my votes are concentrated.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s really no mystery. Lazaro is playing the victim card and there are a lot of voters who are buying it.

  • CB40

Man, for all the flack that Season 9 gets, Casey and Crystal definitely put out some damn good music!

  • kcostell

At this point Lazaro’s about what this season deserves.

  • kcostell

Naw…if Lazaro finishes in the bottom next week they’ll find an (unannounced) emergency rules change that the save doesn’t have to be used until Top 5 or Top 4 week.

  • elliegrll

I think that while on the show they had something that this group lacks, they knew who they were as artists, and they knew how to deliver a song in a way that let the audience see them as artists.

As Slezak said, with this group you want to give them two seperate grades, all of them, including two of the guys, are great technical singers, but none of them have the creativity or self awareness of some of the better idol alums, including those three winners.

  • AGM2123

That’s your opinion, and you have a right to think the way you do. On the other hand, I value song choice and musical knowledge more than vocal ability. There are plenty of people with incredible voices out there, but if they’re not making good choices, they’re not aware of the musical world, then I will have a lower opinion of them. I have that right.

  • tigervixxxen

Why does Nigel choose this week to reveal top 3 with Lazaro in it? Trying to drum up buzz any way he can even if it’s negative?

  • chillj

He is not cute. He is not even remotely cute.

  • Liteasy

I don’t think young girls even watch Idol. It’s middle age women that like him and are showing Idol they can’t stack the deck and get away with it.

  • HKfan

I don’t find him that cute either, doesn’t do much for me!!

  • chillj

It could happen. There are no other male candidates.

  • dawnage01

<—– This guy ain't a happy camper tonight, lol. It'll be a HOT mess if Lazaro actually makes the top 3 in 3 weeks time.

  • guinness416

I dunno, he can’t sing, his sweating is painful to watch, he’s in over his head, he doesn’t seem to have much chemistry with his colleagues and he’s cute but he’s not remotely sexy, unlike the Phillips and Krises of the world who got their share of shallow “my future college boyfriend”/”my ex from when I was young and single” votes. I can’t really fathom who’s voting for him unless it’s people annoyed at the all-girls thing. Crazy stuff.

  • LeahKittyS

And now, a continuation of “American Idol Horror Story”:
(Scene: the dressing rooms at American Idol. The women walk anxiously about the dark hall.)
Angie: “It’s been two hours. What’s taking them so long?”
Kree: “I know, right? How long does it take to check a breaker switch?”
Candice: “Well, they better hurry up. We’ve already got two search parties out for those boys, we don’t need any more.”
Amber: Shivering “I don’t like this at all…”
Candice: (wraps an arm around her) “I’m sure they’re fine. Don’t worry.”
Janelle: “Well, my flashlight’s going out, I’m gonna go find some more batteries.”
(Janelle heads down a hall. She passes by an open door to a room where Lazaro is lying on the couch, crying into a cushion. She stops and looks in.)
    Janelle: “Laz? What’s wrong?”
(Lazaro looks up to acknowledge her, then resumes crying into the couch.)
Janelle: “I know you’re scared, but it’s gonna be okay. You’ll see.”
(Lazaro lets out a muffled wail. Janelle looks around the room as if for an answer. She walks toward the dresser, where four folded pieces of paper are sitting. She picks one up, opens it, and her eyes go wide as she reads the dark red letters.)
CURTIS IS DEAD. FOUR MORE TO GO. – P
(She sets it down and opens the second paper. Her mouth is agape with horror at the dark red letters.)
PAUL IS DEAD. THREE MORE TO GO. – P
(She sets it down and opens the third paper. Her face loses all color as she reads the dark red letters.)
DEVIN IS DEAD. TWO MORE TO GO. – P
(Clutching her stomach, she unfolds the last piece of paper. She drops it as soon as she reads the name and looks away, her eyes brimming.)
BURNELL IS DEAD. ONE MORE TO GO. – P

  • blackberryharvest

I wish they would do the results like they did back at the top 10 results-I liked seeing the audience and judges get surprised over who made it!

  • jms

Janelle has really grown on me. I’m shocked she was bottom two. I feel like I should have actually voted.

  • blackberryharvest

You act as if he has won. Lol, there’s still many more weeks to go.

  • disqus_HSq3RJg1fQ

what the heck is wrong with America? Lazaro is HORRIBLE. But seeing Casey James was awesome and tasty.

  • Incipit

IDK why, tigervixxxen, but WNTS Senior Editor thinks Nigel owes the audience an apology. Never saw them put up something like this on the site before – I would say, in their snarky, understated numbernerd fashion, those folks are downright ‘pithed’ at what Nigel has allowed to happen to the show.

“Well, if this season doesn’t cure Uncle Nigel’s penchant for airing those heart-tugging sympathy pimp pieces in the Audition rounds, nothing will. He’s singlehandedly turned what was once the premier national singing competition into a laughingstock, and he owes every American Idol fan an apology. – Nick

Friday, April 05, 2013, 2:20:38 AM GMTWhat Not To Sing”

    Not too thrilled myself.

  • jms

I’m extremely annoyed at the all-girls thing, but I didn’t vote for Lazaro. The best way to stop the “all-girls” obnoxiousness is to finally have a girl winner. Doesn’t matter if she were as bad as Sanjaya (not that any girl remaining is). Honestly? I wish there were a girl as bad as Sanjaya. The producers so desperately wanted a girl winner that they made a crappy season, they deserve it.

I’m more annoyed that the producers forgot how to make a frigging music show. Someone needs to get fired after the season!

  • http://twitter.com/vortexpanel vortexpanel

Amber is nothing like Pia. She knows how to dress and can actually perform when she sings. She can also look into the camera and show some emotion, unlike Piabot.

  • jms

I kinda wish this Nick person were harsher, but I agree.

  • tigervixxxen

Right, so why go through the trouble of pointing out not only is he safe but he’s in the top 3? The outrage that people are having, though justified, is what Nigel wants.

  • supersonic

I agree. Burnell had that something. I can’t put my finger on it, either. And yes, he had room for growth. It’s the same thing with me — a good voice is just not enough. You have to have some kind of a personality, too. I don’t see that with the rest of the kids left.

  • jms

I don’t see any of that when Amber sings. I’ll give you that she’s less robotic than Pia, but they’ve sung the same kinds of dreary, dull songs. Other than that, it’ll probably just end up agree to disagree.

…Seriously, I still think Amber needs to sing an upbeat song.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.mcinerney.37 Michael McInerney

I totally agree with you “just”. First of all I want to say that I totally support “diversity” doing well on this show but with that being said there is a reason for the recent success for WGWG surge. Idol wants it’s cake and wants to eat it at the same time. From the very beginning they have rammed “This is a girl year” down our throat and then everyone wonders why the cute boy with the nice smile that had the “underdog” story from the first show is doing so well. If the show producers are trying to steer the results of the show in a different direction from the recent trend of those who vote than there is the reason why the ratings continue to dip.

  • blackberryharvest

Has someone in the bottom 3 for top 8 week EVER won? I don’t think so. Being in the top 3 for one week at top 7 doesn’t mean you will win. There are still many more weeks to go.

  • http://www.facebook.com/bill.mitchell.3954546 Bill Mitchell

Lol, Lazaro is this season’s Sanjaya obviously.

This has really lost it’s edge. AGT is even more entertaining. The Voice is so so so much more fun. X-factor is awesome everywhere but in the USA.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Fantasia was in the bottom two for both Top 7 and Top 4, then went on to win. So unless there’s something special about the bottom 3 of Top 8 that doesn’t apply to Top 7, there’s no rule that a person who’s in the bottom 3 midway through the competition can’t win.

  • blackberryharvest

What about all those times in past seasons where people said a certain contestant couldn’t win now that they had been in the bottom 3? Does that not apply anymore?

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Most likely to motivate fans of other singers to actually power-vote, as a means of overwhelming a serious power-voting bloc for Arbos.

Like most Lythgoe efforts at manipulation, it’ll probably backfire. He seems to fancy himself as a chessmaster, when he’s still struggling to figure out how to tie a game of tic-tac-toe.

  • Jae

Wow. Lazaro in top 3. The judges have no one but themselves to blame for his no talent butt still being around. They made like he gave a great performance last night so he went from bottom 2 to top 3. And of course they can’t use the save while he is there. They have to use it on one of the much more talented girls. I will miss Burnell. He was a sweet kid with a unique approach for the most part. Grrrrrr!

  • tigervixxxen

That was a long time ago. It’s pretty unlikely that a B3 this early will gain you enough momentum to win. More likely is that someone who was never B3 wins. Plus that argument is used for when a front runner slips up one week and the discussion centers around if that too much lost momentum and a sign of weak popularity. I don’t buy that at all as a reason why the season’s gimmick can win.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Well, “people” saying it never made it true, any more than “people” saying it was Arbos’ week to go home made THAT true.

Idol fans consist of many and varied people with many and varied “sure rules” for the show (which is one sign of a large and healthy fandom). That’s why it’s helpful to look at the evidence of what actually happened.

  • Jae

They don’t have to sign the winner. If Lazaro wins, they will just put out some crap album that will sale well in Florida and move on to the people who have teh potential to make real money.

  • Karen C

I’m wondering if less people are seriously voting and power voting overall so between VFTW and pity votes Lazaro is getting a higher percentage of the votes.

  • teekee

Don’t really care who wins at this point. Not enjoying Kree as much anymore. They are all beginning to wear on me. *Shrugs*.

  • teacup

Lazaro is going to win, isn’t he? lol…

  • teacup

I think Carrie had a cold or something. I had to blast the volume to hear her. The acoustics on the show are terrible…

  • blackberryharvest

I guess they all have an equal shot at winning then.

  • windmills

I loved Burnell but knew he was going home tonight. Glad he made the tour!

It seems like Kree and Angie have held onto their early leads. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kree were solidly ahead of the whole pack every week. I feel like she may turn out to be a Carrie who led every week during her season. That’s fine with me, she has my favorite voice in the competition this season and I think she’d be embraced for her beautiful tone and phrasing even if she weren’t already connected in Nashville.

Lazaro being in the t3 this week means the Candice votes aren’t as strong and consistent as I thought. That’s probably also why 3 out of the 4 judges didn’t put her in the t3, which was as big a WTF to me as Lazaro being in the t3. It’s disappointing because IMO Candice has brought it the most week in and week out. I also would’ve loved to see some momentum for Janelle, who IMO has really worked her way into the competition and showed different sides of herself. We already knew Amber’s votes weren’t necessarily that strong.

I don’t think the judges will save Lazaro. They may need to save a girl next week and even if they don’t and it’s Lazaro who goes, they’ll boot him and then do a “surprise” non-elimination week sometime down the road.

  • perfectstorm

One bright spot is that Lazaro is in the Top 3 with Angie and Kree, who have never been in the bottom. Both were also Top 3 a few weeks ago.

  • http://twitter.com/PattiHum Pat H

windmills, I agree! if by some miracle, Lazaro is eliminated next week they won’t use the save.

  • elliegrll

The show has always had joke contestants, and those with sob stories. The difference is that they usually don’t make it to the voting rounds. As Slezak wrote during the audition rounds, the warm fuzzy feeling of Lazaro making it through is one of the reasons why people watch AI. Unfortunately, as they’ve done over the past few years, the producers relied on the story for far too long, they did the same with Heejun, Zoanetta, Nick Mitchell, and Tatianna during season 8.

  • perfectstorm

I think it’s Angie Miller that’s been in the lead. She has yet to fall to the bottom, even when she’s given a so-so performance. She also seems to have a pretty vocal following (at least on the Internet).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=533690112 Nina Bohm

Let’s vote hard to make this happen. The producers have totally cheated. A Phillip Phillips or Kris Allen would have beat any of the girls. The fans loves their WGWGs. And Lazaro is the closet to it. We need to show the show who’s boss.

  • abbysee

I give up. Lazaro could win this season. It’s fitting. Shitty season, deserves a shitty winner!

  • roaringpen

Lazaro was in the top 3!!!! *facepalm* I think he is right up there with Sanjaya and Tim Urban for boys that NEVER SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AS FAR AS THEY DID!!!

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

I’m actually happy to see Lazaro still there. I think he’s learning and growing through this, and might surprise some people yet. Burnell’s last song was all over the place and I wouldn’t have saved him either. Shocked to see Janelle in the bottom three. And I still think Candice should be in first place.

  • windmills

I’ll save more detailed comments for their respective threads but it was great seeing CaseyJ and Carrie back on the show and I’m glad they performed well. They both seemed emotional to be back. Carrie’s intro package was unsurprisingly full of highlights and I love that 8 years later, it’s still clear how much this show means to her. I cringed when CaseyJ’s intro package started off with the shirtless thing but the rest of the package was totally respectful and highlighted his all around talent (and his best song, Drive!!), and CaseyJ’s banter with Ryan after the performance was cute.

CaseyJ’s album is priced at $6.99 at Itunes by the way. Good move that should help him get a very nice sales bump this week! His album is already up to #55 all genre at Itunes when it was nowhere to be found before that. Carrie’s seeing bumps on the album side (#59 all genre, no sale price) and the single side (See You Again is up to #53 country when it started somewhere in the 400s and Blown Away the song is back in the t100 all genre).

  • windmills

    That’s definitely possible.

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

My preferred genre of music is country, but I thought both Carrie’s and Casey’s performances were pretty blah. I had no idea what Casey was singing most of the time. Do the Idol mics muffle some people or what?

“The show has always had joke contestants, and those with sob stories.”

Yes. Not every season, elliegrll, but often enough to be annoying, and usually the audience has enough voting rounds to get rid of them before they get established. This time, the audience cut one of the Gimmick contestants when they got the chance, but Nigel and TPTB had to pass Lazaro through, in the first place, because the audience didn’t have that early vote. So it’s all on them, initially. IMO. Also – Nigel says in an interview that they only have the Gimmick Contestants when they don’t have the talent. So, I guess that’s what he thinks of the Hamsters this year, since he saw the need to pass through TWO Gimmick Contestants before the audience vote even started. Doesn’t say much for TPTB’s opinion of the ‘talent’ they selected for Season 12.IMO.

  • jpfan2

Lazaro in the top 3 was kind of hilarious. I guess next week the first girl will go home who will probably be Janelle or Amber. They’ll use the save and then what?
I didn’t think either Casey or Carrie’s songs were amazing.

So go back to Boys Week Round 1 Hollywood.
America and American Idol are basically saying Lazaro is the male with the most talent. Trust me, you will never seen any of those boys audition ever again.

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

It has got to be said, we have three young ladies in the AI12 that can ousting Carrie, and if Phil2 had performed Casey’s song as his coronation song we’d find him in the same outhouse as Lee DeWyze

  • Wfish88

WOW @ Lazaro……. Who’s voting for him seriously? Janelle did not deserved to be in bottom 2. She was only person who acually worked the stage last night. Regardless, Jannell will get her fans to vote next week. I’m just baffled that LAZARO IS THE LAST GUY STANDING. Idol producers have some MAJOR bussing to do in upcoming weeks.

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

They’d have to use the save on either of them. They are both getting stronger, and more entertaining with each show. It would become a snooze fest without either (plus, who would help Laz with his lyrics?)

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

Aw hell, that will just make the Cougars for Lazaro all the more motivated…. Every good boy has made a mistake or two.

  • http://twitter.com/hawkscool8 John S

So…why are people acting like Lazaro has already won?

  • ohreli

Yup, Lazaro could win the whole thing, folks.

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

  • Wfish88

XF was bariably watchable. Judges & Hosts (Kim mostly) were a mess. The contestants (exepts 5H) were all pretty bland.

  • TheOther

Phillip is not a country singer.

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

This fiasco has nothing to do with diversity. It is pure manipulation and greed. They could have pulled in a Black Male with Guitar, and a White Male with guitar, both stronger than any male competing this year. However, the stats don’t lie (Phil aside), the girl winners and participants rack up more revenue for Fremantle Media and 19 Entertainment than the guys.

He’s the last “man” standing, so his odds are pretty good.

  • Maya100

I don’t understand why people are surprised Lazaro is getting the votes – he’s the chosen “cute white guy.” ;) Who else are the tweens and other ladies who make up the bulk of the voting public going to vote for? The type that usually receives the votes was kept out and the replacements aren’t really that talented or engaging. Plus Lazaro has a “sweet” backstory. I’m not surprised at all.

  • Maya100

Good point – but I’m not really clear what voters you’re talking about.

  • jpfan2

At least P2 wouldn’t have worn the silly low cut T shirt Casey wore. Hey Casey you’re a good looking guy. You don’t have to sell your bod so much. A regular shirt or T shirt would work just as well.

  • EB

True! I don’t know what talented guy would want to audition for this show now after the shenanigans this season that lead to this outcome of one mediocre guy standing. Unless he had a sob story to give him a chance, maybe.

  • Listening

one question did they reveal the top 3 last week? I don’t think they did. And if that’s the case they did it for the sole reason to show Lazaro is up there. They’re announcing to the public hey you better keep voting for the girls or Lazaro is gonna sneak up in there and eliminate one of them/take their spot.

  • springboard2

I think that Lazarro still top 3 shows that the voting is dominated by die-hard fans, perhaps even more than in previous seasons because top 7 is when contestants-who-overstay-their-welcome are usually falling.

May be the new internet voting exacerbates the problem, or perhaps not enough casual viewers are engaged enough to vote.

  • Niall

My belief at the beginning of the season was that Lazaro could upend the “girls year” just because he’s cute and puppy-like. Then he started performing badly and I was pretty sure he’d be out around 6 or 7. After the reveal that he’s still in the top 3, even on a night where he wasn’t reduced to tears, I’m almost back to my original thought that he’s destined for the final 3 and might even make it into the finale. What a disaster for the franchise during a season that doesn’t need any more disappointment.

  • Niall

All the contestants experience snark. Lazaro’s problem is he refuses to accept even constructive criticism without tears and excuses. Frankly, he’s like a man child and has brought the added criticism on himself.

  • Incipit

“- he’s the chosen “cute white guy.” ;)

Okay, Maya100…but if he is the Chosen Cute White Guy, is he the Archuetta archtype with a stutter instead of one paralyzed vocal cord, who overwhelmingly chooses ballads to sing, or the Jason Castro meme, the guy who had a lighter voice, and was having trouble memorizing lyrics, just escaping doing two songs a week. Lazaro seems to be a little of both. They both finished high in their season – second and fourth, and both had/have a rather varied fan base…the difference seems to be, even with their drawbacks, both of them could sing in their own genre very well. I don’t know who would be similar to Lazaro for that. He’s missing the “Imagine” or the “Hallelujah” performance. It can get confusing, this “Chosen” thing.IMO.

  • Niall

If Laz wins, they should pull a Melanie Amaro with him and focus instead on Kree and Candice. If there’s such a thing as jury nullification, why not AI voter nullification.

  • mtlfan2

Lazaro in the top3… that definitly the highlight of the night but not in a good way! He did better than last week for sure but top 3 sheeshhh.
And about the idea that he could win it all.. come on people bawhahaha

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1638805698 Jason Scott

  • HopeForMusic

Interestingly, Casey is at #98 Canadian i-tunes, without the reduced price. So he resonated here as well, which makes me very happy.

  • Anny_nanny

It’s terribly little, and it’s at super-vote. I suspect they had lost the vote so much, that VFTW began to noticeably influence the overall results again. +”protest vote”.

  • hayes

Lazaro is outvoting Candice. There is so many wrongs with that. I am now convinced he’s a lock in the Top 5. That being said, the save will be used next week — either on Janelle or Amber — and it’s okay because either one of them deserves it.

On another note, does “unanimous” mean Randy and Keith only?? Lol. There is no way Mariah or Nicki was ever a part of that “deliberation”. Watch, they will use the save next week but we won’t see Mariah or Nicki voting.

  • Anny_nanny

If next week Lazaro eliminate and they are forced to use save, it will be epic. Nigel and Ken deserve this winner, it’s not the fault of the public.

  • http://twitter.com/the_jr57 Jr

Next week everybody here should give the girls 10 votes to make sure Lazaro does not advance.

Off topic: Is anybody watching Chicago Fire? I just started watching and it’s another good nighttime drama/soap opera. So many good dramas on the networks this season!

  • EB

I couldn’t understand him either. Carrie too at times, almost like she was getting drowned out by the band like the contestants do, ha.

  • Da 1 N Only

Don’t worry, Lazaro has reached his vote maximum (which means he is unlikely to receive significantly more votes from week to week). The ladies on the other hand will receive a bump each week after a contestant is eliminated. For example I expect Candice & Amber to get a boost with Burnell eliminated. He may last another week but he will not crack the Top 3, lock it.

  • dd999

Oh! For Pete’s Sake!!! Lazaro is safe and is one of the top three! Oh! Yeah! a real shocker, he’s getting closer to first every week! Its so frustrating, its getting comical. Lol! Its admirable that he’s taken on this challenge, but at some point, voters have to be considerate of the much better singers, who can remember their words at least.

  • hcpoirot

I am not so sure that Lazaro can win.

If all of us remember , last week he is in bottom 3. (top 8) Meaning he rank number 5. THis week rank no 3 because all his fans really voting like crazy.

It mean that rank 3 – 6 are very close and depend on the voting.

Number 1 and 2 had to be Angie and Kree who are also in top 3 in the beginning of top 10. Look like they had more voting then others. (like in X Factor season 2, the top 2 never change till the finale)

The only reason the producer did this revealing top 3 is try to make his fans forget to vote for him next week.

  • hcpoirot

Why people is surprise Lazaro at number 3?

He is one of only 2 male standing. (Now he is the sole male standing) He had good back story and good looking.
He can sing better than Jedwards or many of X Factor UK jokers.

He will not win but maybe reach top 3 defeating other 3 girls.

At least Idol may get some rating bump.

  • g122y

Good Looking??? r u sure?? ahaha ewww

  • Wfish88

I don’t think people consider him cute… He has a pound of sweat on stage when he sings a 2 minute song. Mabye cute as in “awww he’s trying his best w/ a studder, lets vote for him”….. And people are surprised because he forgets his words, is off key, picks horrendous song choices, and looks uncomfortable on stage.

  • Happyhexer

I’m watching a silly USTREAM of Joshua Ledet & Hollie Cavanaugh. At least it’s cheering me up to hear those two sing.

  • lovetheusa1776

    I admit it.

  • iluvai

I called Kree, Lazaro and Janelle top 3. So I got 2/3 right. I’m surprised Janelle was in the bottom 2. She did great, is adorable, and this is AI after all. :-)

  • curly_yenta

I sent all 50 votes to Lazaro this week. I hope he wins. Idol deserves nothing less! Go Laz, go!!

  • Happyhexer

I noticed that every time he saw the camera nearby, he’d break out in a big, fake smile. But then, Angie does that too.

  • Happyhexer

Wasn’t he in the bottom three the week that they did criticize him? (Even though still safe.) Or did I imagine that?

  • Happyhexer

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but yes, I would’ve preferred Zoanette over Lazaro. Or Shubha. Or Breanna. Etc.

  • Happyhexer

No, I don’t see how keeping Burnell in the game & sacrificing a girl would help at all with the Lazaro problem. I only hope that Burnell’s fans will throw their votes to one of the girls. Maybe to Amber (since he seems to have a crush on her) or his bud Candice.

  • springboard2

Yes, I agree. Lazarro winning would the entertainment of the season.

  • Happyhexer

Ah, speaking of black guys with guitars, I love “Big Mike” Michael Lynche’s CD of smooth throwback R&B. And he’s a singer-songwriter to boot!

  • Happyhexer

Not sure it will work. He still stayed when he cried.

You can see whatever you choose to see, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Pia never strutted around on stage like Amber did during “What About Love” and “I’m Every Woman.” She literally stood in one place and waved her hand up and down for two minutes. She also wore some of the worst outfits to hit the Idol stage. That Gwen Stefani dress she sported in her final performance was flat out hideous. It looked like a giant inflatable moo-moo.

  • jms

Tempted to do the same next week. This season deserves it. I fear they’d be pulling the same crap again next season just to get a girl winner.

That’s actually not fair to him. He is obviously unstable and has been bullied all his life. The press for him will only get worse the longer he lasts, I feel sorry for him. I think he really wants off the show.

  • Happyhexer

Either that or they’re all deafer than I am. I can barely hear Lazaro when he sings in his lower register. I know we have bandzilla up there on the Idol stage, but I don’t have trouble hearing any other contestant . . .

  • jms

Oh, I remember seeing Pia’s MOO MOO outfit. That was pretty terrible lol.

Still don’t see, hear, or feel Amber just like I didn’t with Pia. Since we’re both unwavering, best to just move on?

  • Maya100

Lazaro is one-of-a-kind for a record-breaking season of low ratings. ;)

  • Happyhexer

I noticed but thought I was imagining things.

  • Happyhexer

No, that would have been Devin, who plays several instruments.

  • Happyhexer

Oh, as soon as the camera zoomed in, I saw him paste a smile on his face.

  • Happyhexer

Didn’t do Devin any good. He’s Hispanic too.

  • Happyhexer

Um, because this week he’s in the top 3 “in no particular order.” For all we know, he was #1 this week.

  • springboard2

Yes, it wouldn’t be good for him, but it’s a shame because the situation would be pop-corn worthy, and may push TPTB to renew themselves totally.

  • Happyhexer

I saw that. Guess it’s one of the dozen or so songs that Lazaro does know.

  • blackberryharvest

Candice, Angie, and Kree all have a better chance than Lazaro at winning. They have never been in the bottom 3, and he has.

  • LeahKittyS

Ohh…the psychic in me is awakening…I’m getting strange feelings…there will be outrage in the near future…there will be hurt…but through it, there is hope…and in the end, a magic rainbow!
    Here is what I see:
Who was the one person everyone disliked going into the finals? Curtis. And who was the first one eliminated? Curtis.
Who joined Curtis at the bottom of the totem pole that week? Paul, Devin, and Burnell. And who is now gone? Paul, Devin, and Burnell.
Who came next on the totem pole? Amber and Janelle. Who are the only women ever to be in the Bottom 3? Amber and Janelle. And who will be next to go? Amber and Janelle.
Who was the highest ranked man the first week? Lazaro. Who is now the last nam standing? Lazaro. And who will ultimately end in fourth place? Lazaro.
Who were the Top 3 the first week? Angie, Candice, and Kree. Who are the only ones never to be in the Bottom 3? Angie, Candice, and Kree. And who will turn out to be this year’s Top 3? Angie, Candice, and Kree!

  • Happyhexer

Maybe it would help if disaffected viewers started voting again. I do think apathy is helping Lazaro.

  • teekee

What was it that Casey gave to the contestants?

  • Happyhexer

And lose their teeth in a corn field.

  • blackberryharvest

It’s not as if it’s never happened before. There have been many
contestants who have worn out their welcome, so to speak. Not terrible
people. Just singers who are WAY out of their league. There was John
Stevens who outlasted Jennifer Hudson in Season 3. Sanjaya who went much
farther than fans believed he deserved in Season 6 and the affable Tim
Urban in Season 9 who appeared to be getting by week to week on a slide
    and a smile.

Yep. Don’t forget Jasmine Trias! :) Remember how she was in the top 2 while Fantasia and Latoya were in the bottom? And it wasn’t a Jasmine/Diana finale…Or when Scott Soval was in the top 3 and Vonzell was in the bottom 3. Vonzell ended up finishing 3rd and he ended up finishing 5th.

  • Happyhexer

There are women who want to mother him. Even Naima tweeted something like that. I just don’t get it . . .

  • LeahKittyS

Personally, I don’t think of Lazaro as this year’s Sanjaya. I think of him as this year’s Danny Gokey. Sad story, okay but not great voice, turned in a lot of middling (and a couple clunker) performances, came off as obnoxious and entitled to the viewers, and was cut shortly before the finale (which is what I think will happen to Laz).

  • Happyhexer

No comparison. Danny can SING, even if one doesn’t like him or his singing style/voice. IMHO, of course.

  • teekee

Do they Have to use the save at all? Can’t they just not use it? Just wondering…

  • abbysee

I agree. I didn’t, love Danny, but he had serious potential. Lazaro truly makes Sanjaya look like Stevie Wonder. He doesn’t sing well.

  • blackberryharvest

Saying who is better between Sanjaya and Lazaro is like saying whether getting your teeth knocked out one by one or walking a mile barefoot on broken glass is better LOL.

  • blackberryharvest

In a way I think Lazaro is more like Scott MacIntyre.

  • LeahKittyS

That makes sense, too. But was Scott this polarizing? I remember Danny was particularly polarizing, as Lazaro is now.

  • Mateja Praznik

4 guys eliminated in a row. How refreshing.

Now, it’s about time to take care of the Lazaro problem.

  • Reflects On Life

Isn’t it a part of the reality-competition-show playbook to introduce a trumped-up controversy right around week 7? Not only AI, but also Voice, Survivor, Bachelor, Project Runway, etc? If they hadn’t revealed Laz to be top 3, then merely revealing that he was not bottom 2 wouldn’t have been nearly as controversial, so this was clearly “trumped up”.

  • g122y

I hope lazaro will be out next week. Top 5 All Girls!

  • Hazehel

People here being surprised by Lazaro in the Top 3 is as funny as him being in the Top 3 itself. I never thought he would be eliminated when most here appear to think he would be. He most likely inherited a large chunk of the votes for Devin, and that’s the way it goes, folks.

  • Madilo

I said in the biginning that Lazaro is winning this thing God i hope i’m so wrong
OMG Lazaro in the top 3, America don’t do this to us please, the guy is not ready or good period
Ithink the judges needs to praise him and the production needs to sabotage him when he performs haha silly butit’s necessary at this point

  • Madilo

    you will never know hahaha

  • Face

low cut? it looked like a pretty regular t-shirt to me

  • Madilo

    i think so

  • H.A.

It doesn’t matter how awful he is America is determined to get their “cute” white guy winner. Guitar or not be damned.

  • Face

my immediate thoughts on Lazaro going from B3 to top 3 in a week…
i’m assuming (maybe wrongly) that Lazaro picked up the Devin voters… which is all sorts of ironic… given the shenanigans of last weeks boys trio etc…
either that or… there really is not a great deal of difference in actual votes cast between 3rd and 6th place…

  • Face

so since the first week of voting all that’s really changed is Lazaro has moved up a little bit and Candice has moved down… Janelle & Amber still appear to be at the bottom of the girl pack… not really that shocking when you think about it…

especially as anyone who is voting for a contestant just because they have a pen!s (or a sock in Lazaro’s case)… now only have the 1 guy to pick from…

  • Madilo

maybe there are some who want to screw Idol by voting for him or even the Voice’s fans hahahaha

  • Karen C

I think that might be why they announced the top 3, so people will start voting again.

  • Karen C

I don’t think his fans are the same ones that vote for WGWG. They are looking for originality and musicianship, which Lazaro hasn’t shown. I think those fans are voting for the girls this year, if they are voting for their music.

  • Karen C

I at first thought that maybe less fans are voting, but Lazaro is getting sympathy and VFTW votes, and that’s why he was #3. I still think the votes must be lower than normal, but I wonder if at this point, the remaining girls are splitting the vote, since there are 2 country and 2 R&B singers left. One might get more votes when the other gets voted off.

  • Nadine_Bitch

I think she’s really a great singer but I it seems the massive touring takes a toll on her voice. She doesn’t sing good as she used to be. She should have some rest and be a mommy, maybe.

  • KelseyW

Late post is late, but I’m posting it anyway…

I’m happy that Amber is still there! Guess I have to vote even harder next week though. I’m glad all of the judges love her, but I could’ve done without them mentioning who their Top 3′s were. A Top 3 that doesn’t include Candice is seriously messed up too. No offense to the other Idols. And then Amber wasn’t even in America’s Top 3! When they announced who did make it she looked like she was thinking “Man really? Way to make me think I made the Top 3 guys. Not cool…”

So now we’ve arrived at the infamous Top 6 stage of the competition. I wonder if Amber will break the curse that has been cast upon my Idol faves. The “curse” in which the end result involves them finishing in either 3rd, 4th, or 6th place. Yes. Again it’s happened to me twice for each placement. :P Granted…I unfortunately didn’t officially start voting until AI9,(Attempts were made in AI7 and in AI8. Long story short…I suck. Some words of advice for those who’ve yet to vote…If you don’t have AT&T skip the text votes. They aren’t lying when they say text voting is for AT&T customers only. If you don’t believe them try it. You will get zero confirmation that your vote was cast. Oh and don’t be paranoid about land line phone voting. It’s an automated call. Which means you will not be conversing with another living person. Yep. I’m embarrassed to admit that I’m guilty of those terrible thoughts. lol Idol’s official site explains everything pretty clearly too. Sigh…)but still…Votes or no votes that pattern still repeated itself, and I don’t know whether I should be amused or creeped out by it.

Sorry I’m rambling again. Just wanted to add that I enjoyed Casey’s, and Carrie’s performances and I’m sad to see Burnell go. Oh, and I miss the Ford music videos. Cheesy as they usually were. :(

  • KelseyW

I watched it too. :) They were adorbz, and I’m glad I finally got to hear the two of them sing together. Even for just a little bit. They sounded fantastic.

  • Face

I find it incredibly hard to believe that the majority of people who voted for the likes of P2 or Scotty or Kris or David Cook are voting for Lazaro…
apart from being a male, he is the complete antithesis of a WGWG… in terms of song choice & interpretation, musical style & ability, how he dresses and acts… let alone love of music and performing… I could go on (and on)…
I would say Lazaro is getting votes for a combination of factors and from a combination of ‘voting groups’… i’d be surprised if there was much overlap with the majority of WGWG voters of last few seasons…

  • Face

agree… but lets not forget that as Lazaro is now the only boy in town… if anyone was or is voting purely based on gender… he’ll be getting all those votes now!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=34307244 Shana Collier

Sorry, if someone already mentioned this. However, has anyone noticed its been season 3, 6, 9, and now 12 (which have all been considered some of the weakest seasons) that have had the contestant that against all logic keeps avoiding elimination? Definite pattern there.

  • Face

I wonder if from a TPTB perspective its not really a problem still having Lazaro around at this stage… at least he’s helping create some sort of sadly lacking buzz about the show… in fact I think they will want a girl to be lowest next week (regardless of having the save left or not)… that way they can really have the judges go to town in the media with this whole Lazaro is still here thing…

and we know from past quotes TPTB are all about making ‘compelling television’… not really concerned about post show commercial impact (that’s Jimmy’s problem to deal with)…

if he’s not gone in the next 2 weeks then it’s a real problem… by top 4 they need it to be the ‘best 4 singers’… otherwise the credibility of the show really starts to come into question… see S3…

  • http://realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/president/ CyberForce

Agreed. Has AI ever had a completely female top 5 before? In my recollection, no. Just based on gender votes, sympathy votes and Vote For The Worst votes, there’s no reason to think he couldn’t easily make it to the Top 3, anyway.

  • Face

wasn’t unanimous = TPTB don’t want to save a boy

  • Karen C

If he does win, or even stay in the top 3, I’m going to begin to believe that some voting is based on gender.

  • FE Swann

So the shark has been jumped and the skiier is wailing in the water on the other side. Bye, bye Idol it was nice knowing you!

I’ve felt that the Idol powers have been swimming in rough waters without a life vest but now I know that the viewers are throwing them anchors instead of preservers. Really, really Lazaro in the final 6 and coming in top 3 what are the fans thinking, though a pretty good argument can be made that the fans are no longer about Idol but about sticking it to the show and making it squirm. And deservedly so. You can only play on stupid, assinine, back stories for so long until another one comes back to haunt the hell out of you.

I’ve been laughing at a lot of things Idol for a very long time, but now I know that I’m in the majority and not the minority. I’ll also be happy to see this show go, something I’m surprised to be admitting. And, for the very first time I’ll agree with Jennifer Hudson on something. It should have closed its doors before it became a parody of itself.

  • Karen C

I’m going to begin to believe this if he does win. I would like to think the wgwgs won because of their music, and I still think this is true for some portion of the audience. But if the only guy wins just because he’s the only guy left, and he significantly worse musically than the women that are left, it does show this.

  • fuzzywuzzy

    MJ wrote:

HOLY COW. America’s Top 3 is revealed, and LAZARO IS IN IT. This is getting serious, people. He doesn’t seem surprised at all. Candice looks pissed! Yep. She belongs in that Top 3 for sure.

Of course Candice is pissed and rightfully so! Seriously, for me, this season of Idol has been the worst in history because of how far Lazaro has gone and the joke that he’s made of the competition (especially his utter failure on his duet/trio performances). He’s far too cocky considering his abilities and is playing the victim card very well. This is way worse than Sanjaya making it to the finals, and is damaging Idol by showing that a joke contestant like Lazaro can be the top 3 over vocalists/performers whom he doesn’t deserve to share the stage with.

  • mmb

Lazaro isn’t going to win. Could he make top5, 4, 3? Yes. But whether or not you agree or disagree with the ultimate winner, America has NEVER voted for a not ready for prime time winner. And there is no question that Lazaro is just not ready. Every single winner has been a good singer and/or entertainer. Maybe not the best in the competition overall, but all of the winners have been solid. Lazaro isn’t solid. At the end of the day he won’t win …and if he does he will be the first of such type of a winner. But I expect him to go out no later than top 3, and more likely somwhere 4-6.

  • Rami H

People keep blaming the producers / judges for putting him through, but what about the people who are actively voting for him, it boggles my mind that people are still voting him in after all his subpar performances. He actually sounded decent on his top 24 song but it’s been downhill ever since.

  • Rami H

Yes, and people kept saying the show has jumped the shark (especially season 9) and then it rebounded brilliantly I think in s10 and s11, which was only last year , so I am not willing to write off the show just yet.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

Okay, let’s start a positive thread. What’s RIGHT about AI? I’ll start –
    1) Ryan Seacrest. He can work that stage.
    2) The guest stars
    3) The set decorations
    Now you –

  • nncw

Oh just watched Burnell sing for the save and I have tears in my eyes – that was so sad with Mariah, Candice and Amber crying and Kree trying to support Amber. See Nigel if you don’t stage things you actually have touching moments on this show.

  • http://twitter.com/PattiHum Pat H

Not only that, but it’s an Idol fan “rule” that every 3rd season is crap. So this season fits the bill!!

  • FE Swann

The sad faces and the crying and the warm hugs happen every year on almost every elimination show. I think for the contestants the crying isn’t as much about the guy going home but the relief it isn’t them.

  • RalphResty

Looks like 1 Idol alum is pissed by the result: :)

Just heard who went home tonight on Idol. pissed.. That’s a SHAME. I can think of a couple who REALLY should have been in this persons place— Matt Giraud (@ImMattGiraud) April 5, 2013

  • Miz

Girl votes are definitely being split. It happens every season that there are similar type and worthy singers. The much maligned Season 9 had some fantastic females who were picked off one by one early. Problem was, they were all similar in style.

  • Face

S3 had an all female top 4… last man standing was George Huff who went out at 5th place… but S3 was 9 years ago, so the show, the audience (and their tastes) have changed a lot since then… so could it happen again?

  • http://twitter.com/soaked2thebone Dianne

I hated the way Candice was thrown under the bus. Mariah was the only one who included her in the top 3 which is crazy because all 4 judges have raved about her week after week. Candice looked hurt and/or mad. It was obvious to me that it was about Candice not matching their image of a pop star. For me It came off as mean and I’m starting to hate the show. Thank you Mariah, for all of her diva ways she actually is sweet and based her opinion on singing ability. Let the public be fickle, but at the judges should be more consistent.

  • Miz

You could throw in ‘rebel votes’ unrelated to gender, sympathy, VFTW. It’s been hammered into anyone within earshot that Idol wants and needs a girl winner and the manipulation and stacking the deck is obvious.

It’s easier to vote this year, even if just doing 50 block votes, that even the most casual person can spend a minute to vote for something they really don’t care about.

I’m not complaining about the ease, but it does make it easier for people who hate Idol or for FB friends to throw some votes just because a someone asked them to.

  • irockhard

Who votes for Lazaro? People with this mindset:

“So PTB you stack the deck with crappy dudes and shove boring milk toast chicks down our throats? F*ck you!”

  • standtotheright

“This season” isn’t soley constructed of producers emitting holograms. There are actual living, breathing contestants on that stage who outclass him, and actual living, breathing alumni who are still pursuing careers, and all of them would be tainted by Arbos going further.
And, as everyone said, it’s going to put the kid through the wringer for no good reason.

  • standtotheright

False premise. Either TPTB see the notably declining ratings and bad press as a reason to make massive changes to the show all on their own, which most sensible executives would, or they are entirely beyond the point of doing anything to change the show and Arbos’ win wouldn’t make a difference.

  • standtotheright

In other words, people who have never heard the phrase “cut off one’s nose to spite one’s face.”

  • Axxxel

    Right about AI ?
1)Amber, Burnell, Candice, Kree, Janelle, Angela, Devin, Paul… Black- Guy -with- guitar (David Willis ?), Zoanette, Nick…
    2) Returning Idol alumns on result night
    3) Videoclips of contestants talking about each other
    4) Camera still rolling and showing it on TV (not just on the Idol website)
    5) Keith Urban

  • justmefornow

lol. Why is it “spiting one’s face”?
I don’t give a crap who wins and I think it would be hilarious if Lazaro won. Those manipulative idiots sinking this show deserve it.

  • bridgette12

Candice has a good voice, but there are plenty of women just like her already out there, she don’t standout as anything special. But then again, the same can be said for the rest of them. They all lack star power.

  • irockhard

LOL I hate to break it to you but it’s absolutely true that not everyone votes for the right reasons, otherwise VFTW wouldn’t exist. And as for me personally I can’t vote for anyone as I’m outside the US. Reason for me to never have to care about who wins.

  • Axxxel

I love Candice’s voice but I cannot see young girls and elder ladies voting for her into the top 3… She is not as cute as Lazaro or relatable as Kree.

  • justmefornow

lol. This reminds me of all the uproar last year about P2; his voice is terrible, he kills the melody of every song he sings, Jessica and Joshua can “wipe the floor with him” (lol), blah, blah, blah….
That guy is laughing now all the way to the bank.

That being said, I don’t think Lazaro will win, but I kind of hope he pulls it out just to stick it to Nigel and all the other idiots manipulating this season down the ratings toilet.

….As an added plus I would love to see Jimmy have to market him, LMFAO!

  • Axxxel

too raw… but then again, so was Carrie Underwood in her run…

  • standtotheright

VFTW is a bunch of silly trolls. That trolls exist on the internet is not a surprise. But keeping him in the competition is not going to change the deck-stacking or casting, so it’s pointless.

  • standtotheright

Because the people voting because they don’t like the casting are just inviting more producer manipulation thereof next season.
And because anyone voting who is a fan of another alumni is doing that alumnus/a no favors by lumping him in with them.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Well, but here’s the question: do prior Idol alumni “deserve” to be tarred with the brush of “having been on that stupid show that was won by that stuttering guy who couldn’t even sing”?

Obviously, opinions on this will differ, but I’d hoped that Idols for whom I voted would be associated with “that show that’s kinda cheesy but produces some amazing musicians.”

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

I agree this totally reminds me of past seasons. Scotty was a one-trick pony and Casey was terrible and Jacob was awful, and Heejun was a joke and Phillip couldn’t sing and on and on and on. Sorry, those were my favourite contestants in the past two years (along with Hollie, Hailey, and Naima).

This year, my top three are Candice (by a mile), Janelle, and Amber, but of the guys, Lazaro is the one I can see having the best chance at a solid career if he can get some good management.

And I don’t see cocky or playing the victim card – just a young man who’s had to struggle all his life getting an unexpected chance to follow his dream and trying to survive in the crazy world of reality singing shows.

  • Axxxel

Does Lee Dewyze ring a bell ?

  • justmefornow

The producers are going to do exactly what they want next season no matter what, so it makes no difference anyway.

And being a fan of an alumn, who btw didn’t win, is in no way lumping him in with another winner, good or bad.
In fact it may help if a poor winner is chosen so the show has the perception of not picking the most talented again, thus re-enforcing the “you were robbed too” mentality some people have.

    Win, win.

  • irockhard

Unless they plan to cast no guys at all next season Lazaro winning will prove there’s nothing they can do to get a girl to win.

I don’t agree with your second bit. The world judges the alumni on what they’ve done post show not on the show itself.

  • FE Swann

quote” And because anyone voting who is a fan of other alumni is doing that alumnus/a no favors by lumping them in with him. “quote

If the alumni of Idol haven’t moved beyond the show into the real world they deserve to be lumped into the crap the show has become. Idol has never been the ultimate measure and those Idols who choose to wear it as their moniker aren’t doing themselves any favor. The real world (outside of a few million Idol fans) aren’t supporting the alumni just because they were on a two-bit for profit television show. If the fans feel they need to prove how hokey the show has become by saddling it with the worst winner ever they have every right to do so. More power to them I say!

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Well, if that were so, surely Idol alumni wouldn’t get questions in interviews, years later, about Idol (their own experiences and the current season).

Clarkson, Underwood, Daughtry, and maybe Fantasia have track records that make Idol less relevant. For the rest, Idol is a major part of their career path.

  • zjzr

As much as I am glad that P^2 had a very good career right now, the point that a contestant that has a slightly similar style as him (indie-ish, rocky style) if not really similar is better vocally (objective) and slightly stylistically (subjective) got 6th place, where IMO Jessica, Skylar and Joshua could’ve been a better ending than them, and the feeling that you know the ending from the start doesn’t really flow good to me.

First, I won’t say that I would compare P^2 to Justin Beiber, but we know how popular he is and his album sales but there would be an outrage if he got to the finish line versus someone that is a miles better singer than him (in fairness, JB is a decent singer, but I don’t think he is Idol material). Also, I am not sure if a Lazaro win could help Lazaro in the long run, cause he could be easily pressured in the music industry, I think you need steeler nerves for this business.

  • tucker davis

I get your point, but please don’t compare P2 & Lazaro. P2 wasn’t the best vocalist last year, but he was creative and knew what he wanted to do with his music. He was entertaining, personable, a good musician, and many thought he had the ‘it’ factor that is lacking with much of this group. I really hope Lazaro doesn’t win just to spite Fox because as much as we talk about what’s wrong with Idol…I don’t want it to end. Think of all the people we’ve met through Idol & I want to continue meeting these young singers.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Well, if the producers are going to do what they want anyway, then wasting my voting time on trying to “show them” would be silly.

If alumni weren’t lumped together in popular media, there wouldn’t be the WGWG meme that has so many knickers in a twist, so I think it’s pretty much a given that Idols do get “guilt by association” from the show.

  • standtotheright

If they’ve sold millions of singles and had multiple gold/platinum albums, they *sometimes* get judged on their own body of work. Everyone else still carries the AI label first and foremost.

  • irockhard

Two things happening this season will make me ROFLMAO:

    1. Lazaro wins,

    or

    2. Whichever girl wins flops harder than Lee.

  • zjzr

I am not really sure if it is the “going against” bandwagon. If it is, Haley could’ve landed on the Finale (with the supposed country split-vote), or maybe Hollie too. I just feel that Lazaro has the aww-shucks vote (just like Lauren, Scotty, maybe Phillip and Hollie): the non-threatening contestant that is not as strong as the others, which at times prevail when growth is shown.

  • standtotheright

Every top finisher is associated with the other top finishers and the winners. It doesn’t follow that a poor winner suggests that every other finalist was robbed, just that those other finalists were picked by the same crazy voting pool.
And if the producers are going to do exactly what they want, then why not just turn the show off and watch an actual comedy if the need for lulz is that srong? Like I said, trolling is for losers.

  • justmefornow

No way is Lazaro like P2 talent wise, lol.
My point was that people were all over him last year with their panties in a bunch too.
For the record, I always thought he was the most marketable of the top three and I congratulate him on all his success.

  • HopeForMusic

Even better, he is at #70 this morning. :)

  • standtotheright

The Idols don’t “choose” to wear it as their moniker. The press chooses it for them. Not even Clarkson and Underwood escape it all the time, despite everything they’ve accomplished on their own.
The ratings are proof enough that issues with the show haven’t been addressed for years. Why press the point?

  • justmefornow

I have actually turned the show off. The Rock week shows were the only ones I’ve watched now since the early rounds.

It’s sad what this season has become. Season 10 brought me back after not having watched since Season 7. Unfortunately, this season seems to be driving me away from the show again.

Well I suppose it helps that my special snowflake works in a market that’s not interested in the show. James has only been asked about Idol (contestants, alumni, current season) when he’s interviewed by HAC stations and pop media, not when he’s interviewed by rock stations or rock media, except when it comes to “punking them with metal” that is.

  • TheOther

Exactly. Phillip always took accountability for his performances and never cried with the judge’s feedback. He never forgot his lyrics. And he stepped up to the plate when a song (We’ve Got Tonight) was outside of his genre. He made smart song choices like Volcano, Still Raining, The Stone, U Got It Bad. Phillip is only 3 mos older than Lazaro.

  • irockhard

Yeah and his market doesn’t give a sh!t about this show. When the rock press interviews him about Idol they only talk about the fact that he performed metal on the show. They don’t care about the show, the other contestants or other alums. The benefits of being a fan of a niche Idol.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

That may be the case for that particular alumni… but most are much more mainstream.

If Arbos is still in the game, he’s going to come up in interviews in May surrounding a charity event run by the Idol whose music I own the most of. Said Idol is not going to say “he sucks, and it’s punishment for TPTB not casting more people like ME!” (and since he’s generally made supportive noises about contestants unlike him, there’s no reason to believe he only wanted more like him). He’s going to have to say something tactful while being associated in the popular mind with… that.

Same goes for a WGWG who’s been touring to build support for his indie career, and another who’s touring to support his debut album, and one with a newish indie-label contract and prospective new music, as well as a borderline case who’s going to release a new single this spring. Their Idol talking points should be what a great crop of front-runners there are… not explaining away how the same voters who gave them the victory can flove a singer who wasn’t ready for a high school talent show.

  • FE Swann

Lazaro unlike the others mentioned has no talent. And 3 of the 4 mentioned have had, up until now, pretty good post Idol careers, moreso than other winners and runner-ups. Lazaro is the stick it to Idol vote not, in anyway in my opinion, an aww-shucks.

  • standtotheright

Eh, one of his first page Google hits is an interview with a rock magazine that a) compared him to Adam Lambert and b) asked if he watched other singing shows. It’s still part of his narrative, whether the intended audience actually focuses on it or not.

  • iani

Maybe many people see the difference between his speaking ability and the singing he delivers as strikingly well done and vote for him. TPTB always has had someone in the selected-groups by the “judges” something to talk about, this year might be Lazaro, the other contestants are pretty “clean”, nothing extraordinary with their back-stories, Lazaro is right there with his real problem and his ability to deliver something good from his obvious stuttering -problem and people appreciated it and vote for him. The producers will get what they have “seeded” from this year’s “crop” of idols, starting with the selection of top 40.

  • FE Swann

People are pressing the point because the show they have really cared about over a dozen years has lost all of its warmth and charm and warm fuzzies. It is now generic and mean spirited, all about showing the flaws of a performer and rarely about a person’s good points (here’s lookin’ at ya, Iovine).

And, I’m not talking about being introduced as an X Idol. I’m talking about those alumni who couldn’t get booked on Mars without the crutch of Idol propping them up, and there are more than a bunch out there.

  • irockhard

Link please? I’m not seeing it at all on my first page of Google hits for his name.

  • KrisKD

I agree. It wouldn’t surprise me if she was hurt. Candace has an amazing voice and she has been giving the best performances. She has been out performing and out singing their top 3. For her not to be in their top 3 is ridiculous. I am not surprised though because the comments that the judges have made to her have not matched the over praise that they have given to some of the other contestants.

  • standtotheright

Huh. Google’s algorithm sometimes promotes results based on prior searches, so maybe our results are different? Here’s the link.

  • standtotheright

But the ones who couldn’t “get booked on Mars” aren’t the ones who will have to say polite, diplomatic things about Arbos in interviews, because they aren’t getting interviewed regularly. The moderately successful ones are.
And I fail to see how one is successfully protesting a show’s lack of “warm fuzzies” by repeatedly subjecting an unprepared competitor to harsh criticism from all corners.

They either use it or they do what they did in Idol Gives Back one season (I can’t remember which one) and just say they are not eliminating anyone. They HAVE to have a week no one goes home.

  • irockhard

Thanks, ah I remember this interview now, except for those 2 details as they’re totally insignificant. This interview is a rare exception, other rock media like Revolver Magazine, Headbangers Ball, ect. have only asked him about performing metal on Idol and his performances with Zakk Wylde and Judas Priest.

Ok – Here’s a thought I would like to share. I think the show has kept the save in their hip pocket to counter a surprise early elimination of one of the girls. That need has now passed. I don’t think a 4girl top 5 will bother the show at all and their is a case to be made that they need at least one boy in the top 5 – even if it is Lazaro. What has been put on the back burner is that their is another singer going on tour with the top 10. They could easily fill the week needed by reintroducing her into the competition when the top 5 is announced. Other reality shows have pulled this off before. It would solve Idol’s time problem now that the save is no longer needed. Just a thought.

ITA. My thing about s9 is that it was a depressing season that didn’t make for good TV but that was never a commentary on the talent of the people that season. Just like I didn’t enjoy s3 as a TV show but always respected the talent that came out of it, and just like s12 isn’t making for great TV but has given me at least 2 or 3 contestants whose albums I cannot WAIT to buy.

Crystal and CaseyJ were my favorites s9 and I’m so happy seeing them thrive 3 years later.

  • nprins

The show will totally lose me if they pull this….adding back in the 11th place person when they haven’t earned it at this late juncture would be a total fail

  • fuzzywuzzy

By now the producers should know that there is a large faction of viewers/voters of the show who are real suckers for backstories and who believe that whomever is voted “American Idol” needs to “inspire” people. I was afraid of Lazaro being voted through to the voting rounds because of the power of these kind of viewers/voters. Bad mistake by the producers.

  • fuzzywuzzy

P2 (along with Lee Dewyze) changed Idol from a singing competition to something else. Sure, P2 has achieved some commercial success, but I still maintain that he was not someone who should have won a show that was supposed to be based on great live singing (and he publically admits to having pitch problems and not being a great singer) . Before Lee and P2, at least all of the winners could sing well live. Now that’s changed. With those winners, now the door has opened for someone who not only can’t sing well live and who is being voted for because people feel sorry for him and are treating him like a child. It’s enough of an insult that Lazaro is in the top 3 vote getters, but if he actually persists to the final 3, after already showing that he can’t sing well, and can’t learn the lyrics to more than one song, then the entire show has taken giant strides backwards.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

So… what did we learn last night?
    It is likely that:

Kree has a solid fanbase that withstands performance order or performance quality, at least for now.

Angie is probably strong as well, though the fact she had a standout performance at the pimp spot makes it hard to really tell. That alone should be good for a top 3 placement under normal circumstances methinks.

Candice’s placement is probably highly dependent on performance quality. Given the genre of singer she is that is not a surprise. But she may gather strength when/if Amber goes. I think her ceiling might be 2nd place, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she topped out at 3rd or 4th.

Amber will not win. She’s can sing but the audience doesn’t care.

Janelle is not likely to get past Kree and Angie. But if she keeps being cute and bubbly she may make it to around 4 or so. And I think if she gets pretty high, Jimmy will sign her.

Lazaro gets votes if he is even halfway decent. He likely got some of Devin’s voters as well. He might get to 3rd. I think it’s between him and Candice to get that far.

  • zjzr

Well, it could be that. But that is just what I see as the common denominator: talented or not. I mean if it is the country vote Skylar could’ve had the edge as she’s been consistent right which Lauren & Scotty are, and seeing that the country vote is still strong even is split makes me think that she should’ve at least have gotten a higher rank (she was more explosive than “cute”). Same with Janelle (she is also a performer like Skylar but I thought the country vote would really back). The non-threatening ones seemed to go far even if some thinks that they “deserve” to go out earlier, but as I said that is one factor that I see.

  • iani

the non-threatening contestant that is not as strong as the others, which at times prevail when growth is shown.

I agree with the “growth” factor, so many contestants with less vocal abilities are praised for the growth and better deliveries than the previous performances than based on quality or vocal abilities, it is what we have seen happening with Devin, Burnell even with some of Angela’s or Kree’s parts of the judges’ comments on their performances. When you would select only the “quality” it is what you would judge and maybe more meticulously picky and demanding as a judge, when you select from 100K-applicants contestants with questionable vocal abilities you should judge based on their overall deliveries, no “meticulousness” whatsoever.for something that obviously is not there, but in the competition so far as a contender and for the win based on other factors and abilities….

  • elliegrll

There are no right reasons. Just like there are no contestants who will appeal to everyone.

  • dd999

This year its tough to pick a winner. All these girls seem to have had their moments…and then there’s a force to reckon with, Lazaro! Its shocking to see him sitting as one of the top three. Ha! Ha!

  • Wfish88

It doesn’t surprise me. Candice comes off as old fashion, and her performances kinda seem the same to me. I don’t think Jimmy will sign her unless she makes the top 2

  • blackberryharvest

They will still sell more than any alumni from The Voice.

  • blackberryharvest

I doubt most of the voters have that mindset. Only the hardcore fans in the online idol bubble like here care. The casual voters aren’t going to say “They want a girl to win, so I am voting for Lazaro!”

  • blackberryharvest

So you get pleasure over someone terrible winning on a TV show? You must have a fun and productive life lol.

  • blackberryharvest

The same could be said about Judith-there are plenty of women just like her. But people are still calling her amazing.

  • blackberryharvest

Jasmine Trias made it all the way to the top 3, same with Nikki McKibbin. Its not like this is the first time a bad singer has made it this far.

  • Latin2

So true. :P The Voice is all about the judges making cds, not the contestants.

  • blackberryharvest

Lazaro was just in the bottom 3 last week. Its not like this has been going on every week.
