    S10 is boss.

The theme is “Detroit: The Music of Motor City.” Is that really the Motown Sound? Could there be people like Bob Seger, Madonna, Kid Rock, etc. on the list?

Is having an album/song to plug the only reason to bring alums back? I don’t think that’s being fair to tv audience’s feelings/likes just to make sure only those invited have something immediate to plug. ENTERTAINING people AGAIN is a fine reason to have others on in my book. There’s a long list of some we’ve even seen featured here lately who had something entertaining to offer viewers.

If Minaj could be persuaded to shake her ass on stage during Dixon’s performance, we might have music history made. Perhaps Idol’s ratings could be saved after all.

Heck, it was obvious that Dixon would be invited back — he’s a recent success story in his genre. He’s also buzz-generating because people react to him strongly (often negatively or in a “love to hate” way, but he doesn’t bore).

What happened to the “Where Are They Now” segments??? I know they taped at least a couple of alums…. Taylor Hicks and Adam Lambert. Would be a gnarly idea, eh? Hmm…

I don’t understand…what’s with all the fuss about no big celeb guests? I thought people always complained about how they wanted the show to refocus on bringing Idol alums back for results show…

“Top tier” isn’t 1 & 2 when there’s 10 or 11 spots, & I mentioned others would be enjoyed also. I don’t do the list thing (it gets ugly sometimes if you even unintentionally lv someone out lol) but have plenty of others I’d like to see again & I’m sure audiences would agree.

Having material to promote is the most valid reason to bring alumni back, yes. Sometimes, on theme weeks like this one, alumni who are free do tie-in performances for the exposure, and that’s all well and good. But as many of them are still recording and touring, smart managers will counsel them on the trade-off for requesting or accepting a performance slot if they are busy with other projects at present and might find a slot more beneficial later.

i know JT has done tones of promo recently… but AI was not included… when i think a few years ago (when it was pulling in 20 million viewers) he would probably have built it into his launch plans… as majority of the results show performers saw a significant sales bump… just an observation/thought…

and i don’t think you can compare JT & Bon Jovi… he’s arguably the biggest male pop star on the planet, expected to sell north of what 700k this week…

Bon Jovi are now in that aging rockers bracket, still successful at what they do… but with probably very few people under 30s interested in seeing them or buying them…

I’d rather see past Idol contestants than has-been major stars who are there just to promote an album.

Colton hasn’t performed his current song from his debut album on Idol yet. As one of the three signed contestants from last year, there is every reason to expect that Idol would have him back to perform his single and promote his album that is doing well in CCM. Why wouldn’t they?

In the upcoming weeks, expect to see other returning Idols such as Kelly and Carrie. We might also hear new singles from Scotty or Lauren, if they are selected in this timeframe. They might also have Fantasia, Jordin or JHud on, depending on their release and promo schedules.

  • DragonFly

We’ve witnessed our share of AI deciding immediately after a contestant’s loss to create an undeniable push for that person’s success. If they want a contestant show that’s long & drawn-out dramatically by America’s voting than believe in it, otherwise have a variety show, they decide who’s Great & pimp away. Dixon had an orig song on tour, a girl singing 1 of his songs already S12 & now a performance himself. Honestly, it’s not about him–just don’t like when that goes on.

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

I found him rather bland and also trite.. i’m sure I cant be the only person… but good luck to him and all that

  • http://twitter.com/facenfield David Facenfield

cant they do both… I though over last couple of years they’d reached a happy compromise… most weeks they tended to have an ex-idol and a celeb guest performer… makes it more entertaining for the general public and promotes the shows success stories

    here’s hoping…

See, the word MOTOWN isn’t in the title. I’m anxious to see what we’ll hear!

I don’t think that TPTB decide to push or not push out of thin air. I think Dixon was consistently selling well before his elimination, and everyone actually agreed with the explanation that his song choice did him in earlier than it would have otherwise. The fact that he is selling *very* well for his genre speaks to that.
As for Miller, she was singing his song to play her own game and secure her own voting (and more importantly, buying) base.
The problem is that the voting is so skewed on these shows that there isn’t a perfect correspondance between final placement and the actual number of potential album purchasers. I don’t blame the producers or the labels for signing or not signing alumni based on more information than just elimination order. I do blame the show for refusing to fix the voting system.

I’m glad they have chosen to do it this way, personally. I won’t miss the boring pre-taped Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, etc. performances that were so dull and added nothing positive to the already dreary results shows.

  • EB

It’s kind of funny… lol. What is with the chrome background? Are they locked in a walk-in freezer?

  • EB

I think poor taste and rudeness would be not letting him appear on the show for that reason after all the success he has had and a slap in the face to all of his fans that love him now and did when he was on the show.

What’s done rudely and with poor taste is your comment’s execution.
