AMERICAN IDOL: Drama and desperation escalate behind the scenes as the pressure mounts during the intense “Hollywood Rounds” which kick off with the guys, competing on Wednesday, Feb. 6 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) and Thursday, Feb. 7 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). The girls get their chance to win over the judges beginning Wednesday, Feb. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) ©2013 Fox Broadcasting Co. CR: Michael Becker / FOX.

So what did you think? Is this the best group of girls EVAH as we’ve been constantly reminded by anyone and everyone assocated with the show? Actually, in fairness, I think it’s too early to get all up in TPTB’s grill for their constant pimping of the girls. Hollywood is more about the drama than the singing. We won’t get fully acquainted with the contestants’ voices until the semi-finals begin next week. I’ll reserved my judgement until then.

I will say, however, that based solely on the Hollywood rounds, I don’t find the girls to be more talented than the boys. But like I said–that could change once the sangin’ finally starts.

The poll results were interesting. The #1 group, The Swaggettes, featuring Melinda Ademi, Kamaria Ousley, Candice Glover, Denise Jackson are deserving of the position and their name.  Confidence, charm and talent–swaggerific indeed!  They took 49.16% of the vote–a decisive win!

But the second place finishers have left me scratching my head. The Misfits, featuring Kez Ban, Breanna Steer, Angela Miller and Janelle Arthur had 32.94% of the vote. Also pretty damn decisive . The rest of the bunch trailed far behind. as you can see here. If we’re determining rank based on how memorable these groups were, than I could possibly see the 2nd place ranking (actually, I’d rank the 3rd place Pooh Snaps higher, just based on the entertainment factor alone). Other than  Janell Arthur’s impressive belting, that performance was full of terrible singing.

Hm. Perhaps the voting was based on fan favorites. I know Kez, Angela and Janelle have already amassed sturdy fan bases.  I’d so both groups are littered with girls who have the potential to go far–Jenell, Angela, Candice and Melinda. Looking at it from the fan fav angle, it also makes sense.

I think people need to stop judging the season based on group rounds and what we have seen. Remember, Kris Allen, Allison Iraheta, Jessica Sanchez, Kelly Clarkson, Pia Toscano, Jason Castro, etc. were all under the radar and barely shown until the live shows. Patience is the key lol.

Theres a couple boys i like (paul, devin) but really only one girl sticks out to me, and thats Angela miller. Her look is like a mix of katy perry and Miley cyrus but her voice is phenominal…ppl should check out her facebook page (or this random fansite that i found https://www.facebook.com/pages/Angela-Miller-Fans/268567993275209?ref=hl..the stuff she posts makes her seem really likeable and down to earth..shes in it to win it as randy would say haha

If I remember right, P2 was also very low-key in Hollywood Week. His group was all about Heejun & cowboy. I don’t even remember him speaking on camera. I also don’t remember Jessica, Joshua, or Hollie during HW. Maybe I just didn’t pay attention…lol.

What I see this is for the girls voted fewer people than for boys. Girls have another evening for a shot, but we do not know how many wow-performances have guys last week actually.
I keep passing the show and wait for the live performances for Top10. But I do not believe yet that even the most powerful participants will be able to save this season when The Voice will start the blind auditions in March.
I really want to make a mistake.

I didn’t see stars in this season, I saw a couple of entertainment contestants and several guys who have to wait a few years – all of it. If they hide interesting guys to nominate girls – it’s too stupid, they failed week guys. But the girls and I can’t remember and confuse them more than options “blonde&H” in the last season.
I don’t want to mandatory victory guy, but “some” girl I don’t want an example of the Vote and the X-Factor does not inspire me.

Actually, in fairness, I think it’s too early to get all up in TPTB’s
grill for their constant pimping of the girls.

I somewhat agree, but it is pretty alarming if they are severely pimping merely decent and somewhat forgettable performances as “THE BEST EVAH”. It’s still too early to be completely up in their grill about it, but it’s hard to not be somewhat annoyed.

However, I’m also reserving judgment, my Top 10 contestants can easily change, and some new ones emerged after Thursday last week…. admittedly, after ONE performance from some of them (I liked Devin after one performance). I just want Hollywood to be done right now so I can get acquainted with those voices.

Hopefully after tonight there’s a standout female. Some of the guys grabbed my attention after that second episode of Hollywood. I don’t want a boring winner just for the sake of having a girl winner.

Also, is next week really the semi-finals? I thought there was a “Las Vegas” round before the semifinals. Or is “Las Vegas” considered part of the semifinals?

PP had audition after which almost all the bloggers wrote what season it is possible to complete. Phillip sang “Wicked Game” during the second solo in HW. To this point Phillip showed that knows how to create your own covers and how to pick the songs. I’m not Jimmy, I noticed it before UGIB. Phillip went on the selection of the first cover of Usher. I was scared for him when he threw so much before the live show, I can admit it. I listened to Thriller and remembered “Andrew-is-one-song”, I was sure that he hasn’t a longer Jokers and he go home after a couple of weeks.
I remember all that he did, he spoke and sang all season, I listened to ONLY him, he is the only one my fav from auditions to the ???13. Elise and Erika I noticed only after songs of Lady Gaga. Don’t compare anyone here with Phillip. I can only hope for the emergence of a new Kris Allen, if someone were to catch a wave, dark horse can win again. I will cross my fingers for a Perfect storm. May be it will be some little girl which we do not yet revealed.

I agree. I don’t think we’ve seen the cream of the crop yet.

Believe me I knew who Phillip was from his first audition as he is a local talent from my ‘neck of the woods’. I just meant that he stayed out of the drama in HW…that’s just his style. But many of the Top 5 last year weren’t particularly noticed in Hollywood Week.

  • Anny_nanny

I agree. I spoke only of the fact that during HW I was for someone to follow on the basis of auditions, although they were all cut up until ???25. Now I have ?????? and Charlie, but in their victory I believe less than believed in the victory of Elise.

(Paraphrased): “I didn’t see any kind of star quality, and, frankly, I don’t think any of you have a chance of winning this”

-Simon Cowell, on a group performance in S9. The group in question included eventual winner Lee, runner-up Crystal, and 5th placer Aaron.

IA. HWW usually tells us nothing. when there are blown away standouts, it’s usually their peak.

Right now, Angela Miller is the girl that is standing out the most to me…probably because she seemingly is one of the few that is going against what appears to be a girl’s competition full of big diva voices and country twang.

The biggest surprise to me last night was how off I was.  The girls typically connect more with me than the guys, and in the past, the voices I liked pretty much matched up with who the judges kept.  Not this year.  I think I was less than 50% on who I thought was going through over who I thought wasn’t going through.    So far, I am not seeing the diversity with the girls – but we are talking very limited exposure.  A few are bound to standout to me at some point.

I am thinking they are going to cut down a bit on the female country girls tonight – I believe there are a few the show *REALLY* wants to focus on, and won’t let others “get in the way”, sort of speak.
