Wow…I actually found Micah to be the best…and he was summarily dismissed.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHIRO4P2ZPNQFGMK5KR57VH3E4 Nanc

Thinking I found my favorite 2 guys tonight….Charlie and Nick….

  • jcabby

Love Charlie Askew. Kid is awesome and the most memorable. Definitely has my support and I hope he makes it to the voting rounds.

Sadly, my two other favorites, Micah and Nate, are gone. :(

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Charlie!  Please stay as weird as you wanna be.  If he makes the voting rounds, I hope the producers clear some unique, quirky songs for him.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake W.

I loved Charlie and Devin. Those two should make the voting rounds guy wise.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

    Such a damn joke. :(

Nick was beyond good…looking forward to hearing more out of him.

  • cheese1

I liked Charlie and Devin a lot, and I kind of like Burnell – lovely tone, but he needs some more polish/better control. He has a lack of cheesiness that is refreshing.

I like Nick’s voice, but he looks like a bald, baby Ellen DeGeneres and it freaks me out. He needs to stop tweezing his brows and grow some facial hair or something /shallow.  I also want Jimmy Smith to make the top 10 so that someone can fix his hair.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=195101108 Stefan Wind

I’m into Charlie, Paul, and Cortez. Not LOVING any of them, but I enjoy them. OMG can’t wait to see more of Jda next week lol.

  • Latin2

I loved Nick, Charlie, Devin. I really liked Curtis Finch singing, but hate his personality.

Nick reminds me a guy out of drag.

If you watch Rupaul’s Drag Race you will see the guys when they are not in drag, that is what he reminds me of.

I wonder if he is a drag queen in secret?

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

I wouldn’t be surprised one bit if Nick dresses in drag.

  • Latin2

I thought Micah was great, and better than some of the other guys.

But I did worry that the strain of this season would hurt Micah’s voice even more only a few months after his operation.

  • durbesque

The judges were well behaved tonight.  I can’t quite believe that they have decision-making power.  If I’m right and they were just carrying out Nigel’s instructions, they did it respectfully.

I liked Charlie. The only one with the X-Factor. lol

The top 5 vote getters in the poll sound right to me. I like it.

If the Top 10 was half
guys half girls, I would have absolutely no problem with the Top 5 in
the poll moving on. Nick/Charlie/Paul/Devin/Lazaro for the Top 5 guys
would be great and somewhat diverse.

The only guy I see potentially being frau/tween bait of that Top 5 is Paul, who seems a bit effeminate for a frau/tween bait contestant. And, of those 5, Charlie is the only one I know who could be a WGWG. But then there are more guys there who might also deserve a spot in the Top 10, like Jimmy.

Tonight’s episode was so much better. Looking forward to those 5 guys and a lot more. The only problem with tonight’s episode was Micah being cut.

They did edit the girls to seem a lot stronger than the guys during the auditions, but tonight’s episode seemed to show that the guys have potential still.

I just want a deserving winner (not necessarily a female), and if the Top 5 in the poll were the Top 5 guys I would not mind it being one of them. A troll female winner would be kinda awesome though, like if Zoanette got the VFTW support and eventually won.

I’m waiting for someone saying “Oh no! Somethings never change! A guy is winning the poll again!”

  • fantoo1

Anybody else have a feeling Devin could be a darkhorse? I really like his voice.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

My earlier post in the other thread on Devin:

That kid Devin plays the guitar. just saying ;)

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Looking at how the poling is right now – I think we have our 5 guys to go on the tour!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Is Paul Jolley gay? If so, a gay male country singer would be something different.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

I somehow doubt it. Nick apparently has a girlfriend (looking at his Twitter).

Is it weird to check out these people on Twitter/Facebook? Not that I’m finding anything surprising or interesting. Probably the most interesting things I found were that Gurpreet is potentially a Belieber, Charlie is probably bi, I’m a bit over a month older than Paul, and Devin was born in 1994 which makes me feel old.

  • blackberryharvest

Ha, I do the same thing :P Devin is only a senior in High School which surprised me.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

And I’d like it as it is.

As for the Paul question, I mean, Paul does have some “feminine” mannerisms, but that’s not really proof of anything. I probably have the Clay Aiken comparison in my head, though. I like his voice though, that’s more important to me.

I think I’d have a Top 10 of these people whether they’re in the Top 40 spoilers or not.

    1. Nick Boddington
    2. Charlie Askew
    3. Paul Jolley
    4. Devin Velez
    5. Lazaro Arbos
    6. Angela Miller
    7. Kez Ban
    8. Zoanette Johnson
    9. Janelle Arthur
    10. Isabel Pasqualone

I forgot that the judges are choosing the Top 20 and the voters are choosing the Top 10. I think I liked the format from S7 and S9 better. It didn’t work too badly in S10 and S11, though. I felt too many people got eliminated at once in a voting round, though. Also, that Top 10 is devoid of rock and may be a little generic.

  • sjames08

Still rooting for Burnell even though he has not had a full song pimpage. That’s good though, he has more reason to surprise everyone. His last run on Jar of Hearts was just sooo good! Although, I must say, nobody can touch Joshua’s version of that song.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

I also really like Burnell. I didn’t know who to squeeze out of my Top 5 guys to fit him in, though.

  • Karen C

I liked Nick and Charlie the best tonight.   Charlie reminds me a bit of Beck for some reason.

  • irockhard

My gaydar tells me he is, different is good.

  • Mariyas

I like Charlie and Nick and very much like Jimmy.

  • maymirabella

My favorites are Charlie,Cortez, Nick and Burnell

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Jolley = YUM! But damnit if he isn’t straight LOL! But no matter, i do love his voice. It’s powerful and he could do both rock and country.

  • genius13

He’s not polling high but I liked Cortez a lot…I’ve been wanting a good looking, STRAIGHT, black guy (who can sing) on idol for a loooong time.

I liked joshua ledet….but church singers like him and Jacob Lula and Curtis finch are not goin to win…I just want a good pop r&b guy who could actually win

  • teekee

I like Cortez too. Hope he’s not a big ballad singer. Historically, Finch would be one of my dudes, but while I love his voice I’m not connecting with him at all. Yea, I know he can’t win. Knew Joshua couldn’t too, but I never care about that Was hoping that Chris Watson could be the one, but…

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

The only guy I see potentially being frau/tween bait of that Top 5 is Paul, who seems a bit effeminate for a frau/tween bait contestant.

That didn’t stop the Claymates… Just sayin’.

That top 5 is pretty good. But someone who was heavily featured (and usually is considered a strong contestant going into semis) usually crashes and burns in semis. So I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more of these 5 top vote getters don’t make it to the top 10.

I’m not heavily invested in any of these guys yet. But I’m enjoying the talent, so far. Last night was a big improvement over Wednesday night’s episode. So yeah, bring it, girls! I want to root for one of you this season, so I can’t wait to see what you all can do!

MJ, I wonder if your lower poll numbers from Wednesday night may have been a reflection of how uninspiring that episode was. I know I didn’t dare enough about any of the groups to vote, but I did like enough performances last night to come here & vote this time. :)

  • http://www.twitter.com/sarahruth3 Sarah

I think we haven’t seen enough of Cortez or Chris for them to make a real impact so far. Stupid editing. I like both of them too. So I guess if they make top 20, they just need to come out and kill it to have a chance to make top 10. One great performance can make up for a lack of screen time.

  • overthetop1

People think Nick is gay? I don’t get that at all from him. He’s super pale, but I don’t sense gay. And this is a year when they are really highlighting a lot of gay guys. And Paul–I dont kniw if he’s gay but he’s weak and whiny. He shouldn’t talk.

  • RalphResty

    Nicky!!!!!  Hope you win!

  • justmefornow

My fav by far last night was Charlie. He’s quirky and weird in a good way, lol. Too many of the others were either diva self indulgent types or milk toast wimpy types, No Thanks.
Oh, he’s got another fan too:

    James Durbin ?@DurbinRock
Charlie Askew just gave me chills!!! Love this kid!!

  • MellyPer1692

Why a STRAIGHT black guy who can sing? I thought sexual orientation doesn’t matter on Idol? Reading posts, I guess that supposition is definitely wrong.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

I will say, I don’t care for whether the black guy is straight or not, but I would like it if the black guy has a real legitimate chance to win, by seeming he could be marketable and have wide appeal.

  • cosem

Phew!! I’ve just checked these guys (plus some of the other boys from the top40 spoilers). I dislike the AI audition rounds so I’m just getting familiar with this year’s contestants. I pretty much agree with the top5 in the poll. Charlie and Nick were my favorites. I would prefer Micah over Curtis even though I don’t buy the “jerk” edit in general on this show. Also I don’t agree that there aren’t cute guys in this group (cute as AI viewers cute, not as someone I personally find attractive…lol Lee D. anyone???)
Some questions: I noticed that some guys (and girls) are missing from the top40 previews. Is it because they weren’t shown yet? And are we sure that we won’t have a W/C round this year?

  • fuzzywuzzy

“I just looked at MJ’s preview post for him on January 5. He’s done too much performing to be all coy and nervous.”

Yeah, I sensed that Paul’s stressing out over his nerves was a bit of an act to try to gain sympathy from the judges and the viewers. I’ve thought that he was gay from his audition (from my gaydar), and also when the first thing that he did on emerging from the audition door was to hug that cute guy who was waiting outside. lol

  • tomr

Where have they been hiding Evan?  The kid is pretty darn good for being a high schooler.  Quite a few weren’t shown tho.

  • irockhard

Charlie is certainly the most interesting contestant I’ve seen so far, and yes in a good way. I get the impression that his taste n music isn’t bland and he’ll be one of those contestants that will choose new and more obscure songs to perform and that’s what this show needs.

  • pilot36

    Nick has a girlfriend.

  • Hazehel

I supposed based on their performance last night, Nick Boddington and Charlie Askew should be in the Top 10 (of the two, Charlie can have a more interesting career in music).  Lazaro Arbos almost certainly, simply for the human interest angle.   It’s going to be tough fighting for a place in the last two spots, but I guess Paul Jolley might get there.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

I think Charlie and Paul will be the ones most appealing to me if they make it to the live shows based on their somewhat more theatrical voices and Paul’s hint of country. I wouldn’t be mad if either one of them ended up a winner as much as I’m a bit bored of guys winning. Charlie is quirky and theatrical. He’s so f*cking weird. I wanna be friends with him. And Paul has a theatrical, rockish, country voice that has a lot of potential to be awesome.

Props also to Nick for an excellent performance, he’s in my Top 5 guys and he had the best overall performance. Lazaro has a bit of a negative stigma because he has a backstory, but he is genuinely also a good singer, so he made my top 5. The last spot would go to either Jimmy, Devin, or Curtis. All 3 were really good even if Curtis is a bit annoying. Jimmy’s most appealing, but Devin has a lot of potential for a young guy.

Yeah, I sensed that Paul’s stressing out over his nerves was a bit of an
act to try to gain sympathy from the judges and the viewers. I’ve
thought that he was gay from his audition (from my gaydar), and also
when the first thing that he did on emerging from the audition door was
to hug that cute guy who was waiting outside. lol

…Okay, just glad I wasn’t the only one whose gaydar pinged from Paul lol. I wouldn’t really say it was an act, even a long-time performer could get nervous. Not to mention it may have been one of the more important performances of his entire career (Hell, of the careers of ALL the guys there!) I would say he overreacted to his nerves, though. I literally cringed and hurt my manhood both physically and in my mentality when he said “I worked so hard I want this so bad”.

  • irockhard

    Charlie Askew ?@PuffTheCharlie
@DurbinRock Thank you so much! That means a whole lot coming from you. I’m honored.

  • Tanya Harvey

I’m annoyed that, just like every year, the amount of time given to the contestants was so lopsided, even among those who got through. We never saw Josh Holiday sing, although he did get a little face time. I love what he put up on YouTube. I’m sure there will be more contestants who will make the top 20 that we’ve never seen. Oh well, at least the bad auditions have been cut way back.

  • HKfan

Don’t like Curtis at all, nothing about him seems nice. Would much prefer Cortez to go further, prefer his voice, much prefer his look and his personality seems much nicer.
