Alright. Here’s that Jett Hermano you’ve heard so much about. I think she’s a good youtube singer, but she has a small voice compared to a lot of the singers we’ve heard already (and also from previous seasons). Although, she could be a decent hip-hop artist, as Wake Up Call proves. So… that’s why she’s popular. Because she’s proven she can be radio friendly. She plays guitar and piano, though I wonder if we’ll ever see that on the show.

She currently has over 1.8 million views on youtube, as well as over 9 thousand subscribers. So that’s something.

Wake Up Call (Original)

Emotions

If I Aint Got You

We Found Love (she plays guitar)

Who You Are (she plays piano)

Love this one. Main one I am rooting for right now.

With a couple of exceptions (Kree and Angie), I’m not digging the girls
this year. Of course, this may change when the live shows start,
although last year I was really excited when I saw Jessica, Erika and
Elise previews. As for now: I’m underwhelmed.

But Jett is current, so it will be interesting to see what kind of songs she will choose on the show.

    On
a shallow note: Her facial expressions/tongue annoyed so much on her
cover of “We found love” that I had to scroll down to make thru it, lol.

I like her, definitely something different for the show.

  • renzy24

I hope AI will have more modern songs in there lists.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I like her, but I don’t think that the Idol viewing/voting demographic will support her.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Sad but true.  Female, minority, likes R&B/Hip Hop, current…Unless she get MAD pimping from the producers, she’ll be lucky to make Top 5.  Maybe she should bust out the guitar to hypnotize the Idol voting masses.

All that said, I quite like her.  And I have a feeling should be one of Nicki Minaj’s favorites.

Jett is very talented. She has a current sound. I would think she would go far this year. Great name too.

  • chessguy99

Jett has potential in that she fits what Jimmy Iovine looks to be doing, using Idol to find artists that fit into what is current or what is lacking in the industry. Scotty was a perfect fit into the country scene which had very few teen male artists. Phillip was his Mumford & Son knock-off that made radio success very quickly. Jett fits into urban crossover, an area ripe for expansion especially with females that can sing. While he does have Jessica, who fits the same genre, Jett is old enough to take on some of the more adult material.

Jett has the same problem all the other females covered, excepting Kree, have in they lack a compelling sob story to boost their getting early traction from regular Idol voters. She does have a fanbase going into Idol, being well known and fairly popular in the Pacific Northwest youth ministries for her service as a praise leader in her late teens/ early twenties.

I like her hip hop song best but i do like her other stuff as well. I to had a reaction to her facial expressions so she might have to work on that.

I like her a lot. I think she has a much stronger voice than you are giving her credit for.

    Please, Candice PREVIEW!!!!!!!!!!

I wish Idols were unable to get mileage out of backstories, especially those of the sob variety.  The cart gets put before the horse at times with stories eclipsing true talent — or occasionally the shortage of it.  A few have even gone far on real or fabricated personal problems when they might have been sent packing based on talent alone.  Jett should be judged on how she performs, not on whether she can come up with greater irrelevant melodrama than somebody else.

I actually think she has a really good voice! I love her “Who You Are” cover! I just hope she doesn’t get stuck in ballad-mode!

Wake Up Call is pretty hot! I don’t think you necessarily have to have a booming voice to be a good singer. She almost reminds me of the singers Ashanti and Aaliyah. Sweet smooth vocals. If she turned up the heat a little bit more she would be FIRE!

She’s THE BEST, guys! Let’s support her! We have our favorite now! Go go go!

She actually has a really good voice and “Wake up call” is good but they’ll probably going to get rid of her urban edge like they did what Jessica.

Oh god I hope not, imagining her doing the usual Whitney and Mariah stuff is already making me bored, and it hasn’t happened yet.  I like her voice and it’d be nice to see someone from Seattle go far in this, but I fear between her sound and her ethnicity it’s going to be all Jessica comparisons all the time.  Fingers crossed for her.

She doesn’t have the best voice I’ve heard, but for what I’ve seen and heard so far, she got that ‘it’ thing that someone like Iovine and Interscope can work with… if they find a way to meld her image in a commercial way but keep some of that hip hop youthful edge… gonna keep my eye on this one…

I like her a lot. She has a pretty soprano voice, sounds like it would be great recorded. She is right in line with the crossover type of R&B artist that could be relate-able for the AI audience, plus she seems to have some personality.

My concern is, Jessica presented much the same way in videos pre-Idol (though this girl come across more vulnerable) and she got all the modern sucked out of her. So what’s going to happen to Jett? But at least she has the kind of voice that could sing a rock or pop song just fine. And she plays an instrument. So those things could work in her favor. :)

I think Jett is more experienced than Jessica.  I think playing an instrument also means that she can work out her own arrangements that better express her.  I would hope, though, that this is encouraged.

Great point. If she can re-arrange songs and co-opt some of that audience preference for “artists”, she might have something. But TPTB would have to be willing to sell her that way. Fingers crossed. She has a likeable vibe, so maybe she can do the impossible. Hopes she makes the voting rounds.

I like her!!  She has a current sound and a bigger voice is not a better voice.
Oh how I wish the AI voters would embrace that.

  • WestiesRule

Current…. she’s current! She has potential. It’s not about the best voice. At least she doesn’t make my ears bleed.

  • MellyPer1692

Ummm, the idol voters have embraced that. Who in the last five years of winners has a big voice?

I wasn’t impressed with her voice, but it took money to film that first music video.  Did she have a record contract before Idol?  Obviously, somebody is putting up the money. Is she another Philipino?
