American Idol 11 Top 6 – The Power List

I want to preface this list by saying that I believe, at this point, anything could happen. If Phil Phillips was eliminated tonight, I’d be surprised, but I would not be OMG SHOCKED GOBSMACKED HOLEEE CRAP.

So here’s my American Idol Top 6 Power List. Probably totally wrong. I’ll post my thinking alongside my choices, and then we’ll see.

1. Phil Phillips – He’s an ARTIST. He got a decent amount of positive pimping last night, and he performed fairly well. With Colton knocked off last week, he may be getting some of his votes.
2. Skylar Laine – She also had a good night and is peaking at just the right time. I think she’ll be the last girl standing.
3. Joshua Ledet – I think he’s got a fanbase. I can’t imagine he’s splitting votes with anyone. He had 2 fairly solid performances last night, with his 2nd song, coming later in the broadcast, as his stand out.
4. Holly Cavanagh – She closed the show with a crowd favorite and sang it really, really well. Her Queen cover was decent too. Judges have been pretty complimentary. She was adorable in the contestant packages.
5. Jessica Sanchez – She performed first, with a tune that wasn’t quit right for her. The second song was decent, but there were better performances. Although, her daddy backstory could have earned her some votes. I don’t think she’ll make the top 3 at this point.
5. Elise Testone – I thought Elise was the best out of the bunch last night, but she was in the bottom 3 last week, and her second song (although I thought it rocked) may have been too weird for audience. I hope I’m wrong, but I predict she’ll be going home tonight.

I agree with your list 100 percent.   Not your assessments of each artist but definitely the power order.

I had no idea who to put my points on tonight, so I split it 3 ways, which won’t win the game at this point….lol….oh well,

I’m going out on a limb and saying Josh will be going home…another shocker

If life was fair, Phillip would be going home tonight. But he probably won’t even be in the B3. I think Elise is done, unfortunately.

    I think it’s Joshua tonight.

I think that little bounce Hollie did after realizing the judges loved her will save her tonight, hahaha.

*Sigh* Elise should not be going home tonight.

I’m preparing myself for Jessica to go home so I won’t be as shocked

    How it is:

    1) P2
    2) Hollie
    3) Skylar
    4) Jessica
    5) Joshua
    6) Elise

    How it should be:

    1) Joshua
    2) Elise
    3) Jessica
    4) Skylar
    5) Hollie
    6) P2

Oddly enough reality is almost the complete opposite of the way it should be. Shocker.

I agree with your list for the most part MJ, but I think it could be Jessica or Elise.
Jessica’s performances were forgettable to me last night and sometimes that can be worse than performing poorly.

  • Anonymous

Elise, Skylar, Joshua, and Hollie were tops for me. I don’t want to see either going home.

  • Reflections On Life

I agree with MJs power list, maybe switch Hollie & Joshua around, but maybe not.

My wish list is the exact opposite, again with Hollie & Joshua switched around.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I agree with your list MJ.  Not necessarily all the reasoning, but that’s currently about how I’d rank their standings in the competition.  Though this season more than any other I can remember, I really wouldn’t be surprised to see someone from the top of your list, besides P2, in trouble tonight.  All I can say is I’d imagine the hardcore fans of all the Idols were out in full force after the last two weeks and it will mostly come down to who picked up the more random interest votes.

I am preparing myself for the likelihood that either Elise or Jessica will go tonight, though if it were up to me I’d lose Phil.  Heck, I like Hollie, but I would cut her loose before either Elise or Jessica.

Though I do think in part Hollie and Skylar were likely helped by those packaged segments last night as they probably came off as the biggest personalities. Or not really biggest personalities necessarily, but the type I can see voters on this show relating to and voting for.

  • Anonymous

I think, in three weeks time, Hollie moves to Top 3. Her Idol journey is the most interesting growth arc in years, her naturalness and candor a breath of fresh air. Most of the top 6 are giving the same type of performance as 8 weeks ago – she is the one putting the pieces together, which makes it interesting to watch.

  • tommy

I agree, Elise’s time is up.  Although I find her interesting, and far more of an artist than the constantly hyped Phil Phillips, her performances have been uneven and her fan base is probably pretty fickle.

Phillips should go home, but his goofy personality will keep him around, not his tortured vocals.  If he does end up in the finale, he will pale by comparison to whomever he’s up against.  But he may win it all, wouldn’t be surprising.  If he sells 1000 records after it’s all said and done, I’d be shocked.

For me, a Jessica/Joshua finale would be the most entertaining.  Or Skylar.  Those should be the final 3.

  • Anonymous

Hollie is tops for me. Joshua screeches and if it were my decision, he would be going home.  Elise and Phillip’s music/artistry do nothing for me…if one wishes to call them artists.  Jessica has a fine instrument but appears like a deer caught in a head light.  Skylar….reminds me of Reba in a way and I am no Reba fan.  With that said, I would prefer Hollie and Skylar top 2.  Who do I think will be winner?  Phillip.  Teens.

  • http://twitter.com/buffyloverlori buffyloverlori

Am really not sure whose going home. My favorites are Joshua,Jessica, and From last night I loved Elisa, all today I had a feeling it was going to be Josh am so hoping am wrong because he doesn’t deserve to go home before a few other people do. I really liked everyone last night. From last night my favorites though were in the following order, first time it was Skyler, Elisa, Joshua, Hollie, Jessica, and Phillip, the second time was Joshua, Jessica, Hollie, Skyler, Elisa, and Phillip tying for last. So based on that I should be placing my votes on Phillip but I feel his safe. So who should go home phillip, who will go home if i go with my gut it will either be Joshua, or Jessica. hope am wrong I really want Joshua to make it to his home town visit but if not that at least top 4.

  • Anonymous

I agree with MJ’s list, but as someone else said not necessarily the reasoning behind it.  I would think that Philip’s fans would be even more motivated after what happened to Colton last week.  If he does avoid being in the bottom this week, then I have to believe that he will get to the finale.  He’s not exactly lighting up the stage, but I don’t think he has to do that.

I think Skylar being the only country singer in the competition, is a huge advantage for her.  No competition for votes from that large fanbase.  She is giving them what they want to hear.  It doesn’t matter what I think of her voice, she is a strong performer who knows how to deliver on the stage.  I think MJ may be right about Skylar being the last girl standing and that would disappoint me.

The only issue for Joshua is any possible backlash because of the judges pimping him in such a ridiculous fashion. Two standing ovations?  Please!  We know that last year Jacob Lusk made it to top five and he wasn’t anywhere near as good as Joshua.

I think that Hollie did enough to make it through another week.  My sense is that it will be Elise, however as MJ said it would not be shocking to see Philip in the bottom or have another shocking boot.

  • Anonymous

    Totally agree with you.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I think Hollie could make it a few more weeks, but I’m not convinced that she’s having this amazing growth arc so much as she just finally figured out that she has her best chance of connecting to a song when it’s a song she knew and performed pre-Idol.  With the exception of Queen, 3 out of the last 4 songs she has performed are things she was already comfortable performing.  There’s nothing wrong with that and I think it’s a smart choice on her part, but at the same time I’m not sure I’d call that a tremendous growth.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

So my heart says Jessica is going home, my brain says Elise and my instinct says the best bet for a shocker is Skylar. Which means, I’m going to be bummed tonight no matter how you slice it since I wanted all 3 to make Top 5.

    Boo.

  • http://twitter.com/cheeseE1 EH

Unless we get a tweet about a shocker this afternoon, I’ll assume that Phillip is safe. I thought he was pretty weak last night, but I will admit that I love watching him and don’t mind listening to his 4 notes. I hope he finishes 3rd or 4th.

I guess Joshua would be a shocker after 543846780 standing ovations, and he hasn’t been in the Bottom 3 for awhile.  I don’t think any other results would surprise me.

The person I would probably miss the least would be Skylar, but I think Elise will be going home.

  • Anonymous

Don’t necessarily disagree with adjective “tremendous” growth.  But, I do see Hollie progressing and I am hoping she is beginning to hit her stride.  And, there is nothing wrong with performing music with which one is familiar and comfortable.  That actually seems smart to me.  I don’t expect her to be in top 2 but would love it if she were.  I don’t see any elimination as being a “shocker” at this point.  Hype to me using that phrase.  There is not one in the group that stands out high above another IMO.  I believe Hollie has the purest voice and her vehicle is gorgeous.  Jessica seems to be in rehearsed mode instead of passion mode.  I see passion pretty much lacking in all of them frankly.  I have encouraged my sister to vote for Hollie and she knows nothing of this year’s group.  Just looking at the pictures of the 7, she said “the guy in the plaid shirt” looks like the one teens would pick.  I agree and won’t be surprised if he wins.

  • Anonymous

I’m almost completely agreeing with this. My brain says no way Elise stays but my instinct says Skylar is gone. I really do think Jessica is safe though. (which means she’s gone. heh)

I really wish P2 would gtfo of town because he’s the worst one left by a good long mile. But he’s an artist and artists aren’t allowed anywhere less than 2nd place. Plus he’s a cute white guy so I mean…. winner. Such a conundrum, right Randy?

  • Anonymous

To me Elise is not consistently good and even her best songs are only partially impressive.  She might have a run that stands out as unique now and again(she lets us know with her hand) but I just don’t care for the majority of what she does.  I think it is her time to go.

  • Anonymous

Such a weird year.  The top 13 were so strong, for me (for you) this year that I have yet to really have a strong favorite.  Each week I’m pretty pleased with everyone.

That said, for some reason Joshua resonates with me when he sings.  His personality is zippo the rest of the time, but I’m thinking he’s scared to death because in the back stage scenes he’s fun.  I would be sad to see him leave (and finally got off my ass and voted for him last night).

And Skylar – I don’t really care for the types of country songs she goes for, but I do love her voice.  So I voted for her, too.

The rest are all very talented, too, but no one has made me pick up the phone and text a little.  Wish Jessica had more personality to go with her voice – I could get behind that.

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

I think Joshua or maybe Skylar will go home tonight. I’ll bet Skylar is in bottom 3 this week. Bottom 3..Joshua, Skylar, Elise.

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

Also meant to say that even if it were a shocker..I don’t think they would say it at this point. I think they would allow element of surprise this week.

  • Anonymous

It would not surprise me if Skylar is gone as of tonight.  I thought she was better a few weeks ago and actually she had begin to grow on me.  But, she lost me as it is the same over and again with her music.  And the pitch problems convert to screeching for my ears.  She hasn’t mixed things up enough and it seems all sounds about the same to me.

  • Anonymous

Skylar is now competing with Hollie for country votes since Hollie sung the Climb. Also Hollie sang JTTW top 8 and Skylar ended up b3 so Skylar just may be in the b3 tonight. She sang just like Colton in the 2nd slot and Colton was sent home.  So I hope she goes home because her twang and nasally voice are very irritating!

  • Anonymous

A lot of peole think Jessica is going… what a shame … funny thing about Hollie fans .. she was so awfu,l but survived, that her fairly good to good performances have her fans thinking her growth is incredible … She has been good, not great the past few weeks ..I think its only because she was really dissapointing in her first 3-4 weeks … Philip has been bad 3 out of his last 4 performances and looks like he is checked out … Based on the past two weeks he should be going … I also think Elise’s time has passed … she is just a little to long in the tooth for this competition and I think she knows it … I also dont think she translates well visually … WLL was a great visual performance for her, but besides that she just looks a little out of place on stage … I wont even get into the “who the hell is mentoring Jessica!”  rant … she just looks lost, and with that voice that should not be happening … that will be the real shame will be when she  gets booted, because she is a better singer then any of them. With any type of stage presence she could be doing a Scotty or Carrie this year …

  • Anonymous

I believe shocker is “hype” and only is a shocker to the judges, if one whom they have pimped is eliminated.  I will not be “shocked” as it appears to me the 6 are close enough and no true stand out and any one could go.

  • Anonymous

I started out as an Elise/EVP fan ( and I still am) but P2 has won me over. That DMB song was the least poppy thing I have ever heard on Idol and he sounded nothing like Dave Mathews. I absolutely loved it.

Also I don’t know if Skylar is getting the country vote. All of her fans I see on here and writing the recaps are not country fans and they don’t like her country songs. They like her twang applied to pop/rock.  Twangy rock ain’t cry in yo beer country, y’all.

  • Jen Boisvert

I completely disagree with MJ’s list(SORRY!!). I would have to take Phillip and throw him to the bottom. I don’t get the love for this guy at all. First off, I’m a huge male singer/songwriter fan(Joseph Arthur, Jeff Buckley, Josh Rouse etc) and I loved Cook and actually liked Allen a bit.

I absolutely despise Dave Matthews Band, I mean despise. So to watch this guy that does a thirdrate immitation of him throughout the whole competition, then get lauded for doing the same thing OVER and over again, makes me roll my eyes at how downhill the show is going. Don’t get me wrong, Idol has become an addiction, you can’t help but watch despite saying you never will again. You just sometimes do watch through your fingers, or with one down your throat.

Phillip is honestly for me, on a shortlist of contestants over the past five yrs of watching that I find PAINFUL to watch. I cannot watch/listen to him at all. He doesn’t do anything different. Every song he creates into a DMB cover. And yet he’s considered an artist? gah

While I have my quibbles with them all this year, I think the rest of them are more interesting in their own ways(if Jessica can start to attach to her songs and let go she could be fantastic, but sometimes watching her is like watching paint dry.). I think Joshua is fantastic but sometimes needs to dial it down. His first song was meh, second was awesome. Same for Hollie. Who really has grown on me. I think out of them all Skylar has some great promise, with the right songs she could really do a Bonnie Raitt type of career.

Elise is the one I can never decide on. I like her, I really really do and I think she’s extremely creative in how she sings a song and arranges it. And I think her picks that aren’t mainstream are better then the ones that are. Her Hendrix song last night? Brilliant. Even made my husband who hates her like her for a night. But there are times I really, really question her song choices for her voice. Some just are not right for her at all. I sometimes feel the Idol wheel isn’t the right one for her to be on.

Who I would place in order for this week:

    1. Joshua
    2.Skylar
    3.Elise
    4.Hollie
    5.Jessica
    6. Phillip

Sorry for quibbling here MJ, but I really honestly feel nauseous with anyone calling Phillip an artist when he tries too hard to sound like DM’s. And frankly DM’s sound isn’t selling like it used to.

I don’t see Hollie competing with Skylar and splitting votes.  And I don’t put much into which spot they appear in order of performance.  Hollie was first last week and in bottom three.  But, she has been in bottom three when she was near the end of the order of performance.  I think it just comes down to who is liked and who is not.  Elise is a bit off the wall and overall I don’t think that goes over in the long run.  Phillip is too IMO, but, teens will go for a young cute guy who is over the top.  Elise doesn’t appear to me to be one to appeal to teens.  I believe Hollie and Jessica do.  Skylar…..don’t think teens go for country….that much.

Phillip fans are tweeting Jessica and harassing her

I was joking when I said @PPhillipsAI11 looks unattractive when he sings. Come on now. When does PP ever look unattractive? lol

So basically Phil is allowed to trash talk all the others but they can’t trash talk him.SMH.

I know what you mean. LOL. I love it though.

Usually I at least have a preferred top 2 picked out but not this year. It changes every week.

I think I want Joshua there though at least this week. And I love Skylar too, she’s been so solid. But Jessica can saaannngg. And Elise is fierce. And Hollie’s is starting to make good on her potential!

    Dammit. LOL.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

I figured you would be a little conflicted about your list this week mj with Colton leaving last week and with Jessica’s save the week before.  I wasn’t even sure at first where to rank some of these but here goes nothing.  Heh

    1. P2-No one the show this season can obviously sing Dave Matthews like P2 but the last song that he did last night was probably a bit unfamiliar to the viewers but he’s got people and he’s yet to hit the B3.  It will be interesting to see if he’s picked up additional votes from any Colton fans who may have decided to watch this week.

    2.  Joshua-Joshua’s 2nd performance was undoubtedly spectacular but the with the judges giving him the standing O last night and Steven almost declaring him the season 11 winner, I can easily see some voter backlash coming as a result and not out of the question that he could be a shock boot tonight.

    3.  Hollie-For me, I didn’t think Hollie had the great performances last night that she had last week but she still gave two strong vocal performances.  I enjoyed seeing her during those clips last night.  It was great seeing her personality shine through.  I still see her hitting B3 tonight despite that.

    4.  Skylar-I’ve noticed this and I see others have too that when Skylar performs a tune outside of her wheelhouse, she does an excellent job most of the time.  I really wished she had gone really uptempo with her 2nd song last night.  I felt the Aldean tune was too safe for her and of course at this stage of the game, that’s not the route you need to be taking.  Skylar is a smart girl and knows how to take chances.  I hope if she sticks around after tonight that she will continue to take the risks that have really made her shine since the beginning.

    5.  Jessica-She did a great job for the most part last night.  Her 2nd performance was the best of the two but she got very diluted praise for the first performance as if she was be depimped for the first time this season.  It’s as if the judges and maybe the producers are moving slowly off of the BB Chez train.  I don’t think she will be around much longer.

    6.  Elise-Elise has undoubtedly been on borrowed time for the last several weeks. I agree with you mj about Elise’s 2nd song.  It was great but it may have been a little too out there for the viewers.  With her inability to connect with viewers and the awkward results show convo between her and Ryan about her dog last week, some may have seen that as a desperate attempt to plead for votes.  I’ve really enjoyed watching her this season but I’m afraid her time has run out.

Since I no longer have a horse in the race, I’m ibkt keeping up with Idol so I can make informed choices in the funofficepools.  These are my somewhat objective predictions (which I wrote before mj posted hers, but now they just look like a cut-and-paste of everything she said!):

    1.  Skylar – She’s rising, slowly and steadily.  Just based on anecdotal evidence, Skylar seems to be winning people over.  She’s peaking at the right time, and my guess is she will be the last girl standing.

    2.  Phillip –  He’s all kinds of adorable, and he’ll probably sell more records than Lee DeWyze.  However, his style is so far from commercial mainstream music that I think he will have a hard time selling more than Kris Allen.  I love Phillip, but him winning in such a strong season would be a travesty for the show.

    3.  Joshua – After watching his performances last night, I decided that Joshua is the BEST vocalist Idol has seen in a while.  He’s the male Melinda Doolittle who has even better stage presence and performance abilities.  He’s flawless.  Too bad the judges are basically ruining his chances with their over the top praise.  Can someone tally up the # of standing ovations given to male contestants vs. female ones?  The answer should be disturbing.

    4. Jessica – Based on talent and marketability, she would be perfect winner for Idol…but she won’t win.  She may even consider herself lucky to make Top 3.

    5.  Hollie - For Hollie, she was excellent last night.  However, if you don’t grade on a Hollie curve…in terms of putting emotions, vocals, and performance together, Hollie is at the back of the pack.  The judges aren’t bussing her IMO; she just isn’t up to par with the others.

    6.  Elise – Solid night for Elise.  There was a mature air about her when she was singing (she seemed to really understand and breathe the music).  Unfortunately, that maturity ceased when she was being critiqued for her second song.  Her attitude will cost her, and she will leave too early for her vocal/musical talent.

Here’s my power list with +’s and -‘s indicating momentum going forward.
    1.  Skylar +
    2.  Phillip –
    3.  Josh +
    4.  Jessica –
    5.  Hollie +
    6.  Elise =

  • Tess

I give the AI voters a lot more credit than most people tend to, I think.  So far this season that haven’t really hiccupped at all.  People were eliminated when the times was right and it it wasn’t for the save things would be progressing swimmingly in my opinion.  I do think, though, that no consideration has been given to the fact that in Season 10 many voters were squarely behind another country female and I think that Skylar may pay the price for that these last few weeks.  If people really liked the result from last year they may not want another country lass to win and knock off their favorite from last year in the real world.

I also feel that voters like contestants who aren’t “perfect” at this stage and that will definitely hurt Jessica.  And as for Elise, I just think that she has come this far only because someone else has flubbed up each week….as the flubbing seemed to be way less yesterday I do think Elise is going home.

Right now….I think it will be Hollie and P2 in the finals.  I think people see lots of Carrie in Hollie and they know how that story turned out.

  • http://twitter.com/Jakeysnakey19 Jake Williams

very true. They didn’t mention the Colton shocker until the show started.

  • Anonymous
Skylar is now competing with Hollie for country votes since Hollie sung
the Climb. Also Hollie sang JTTW top 8 and Skylar ended up b3 so Skylar
just may be in the b3 tonight.

This is a very good point. And when she hit the bottom 3 she sang Miranda Lambert who is essentially a female version of Jason Aldean. Both spunky, grittier, country acts. I think in terms of last night, as far as the teen girls are concerned, Hollie will steal votes from both of them. And since Jessica will still feel the effects of the save for at least this weak, Skylar will suffer.

  • http://twitter.com/Amy617 Amy Hyun

I have a feeling another boy is going home tonight!

  • Anonymous

How has Hollie grown at all? What she did last night was a good YouTube cover. Oh wait, that’s what Hollie was doing before the competition. That’s the same thing. And whenever those YouTube kids get record deals, you never hear of them again (Greyson, who?). Fans are STRIVING for a Haley Reinhart-like growth story this year because it was so fascinating last year. Hollie doesn’t seem like she’s grown to me at all. She’s a sweet girl and I’m glad she gets to tour with her friends. Maybe she’ll learn to incorporate more flavor into her voice. But for right now, she can’t sustain the trained R&B techniques of Jessica or Skylar’s fearlessness.

  • Anonymous

Interesting you say that “people see lots of Carrie in Hollie”.  That is how I am seeing it.  Carrie was a bit stiff (and still is to some degree IMO) but she was a breath of fresh air.  For me, so is Hollie.  It would be fine with me for Hollie and P2 to be final 2.

  • Anonymous

Hope it is Joshua! He gets on my nerves!

Weird season. Anyone can win. Anyone can go home. No one is routinely wow’ing me with either their performances or their impossible-to-ignore stories.

I kinda like Hollie, Elise, and Philip, but not always. Skylar and Joshua are ok for me, but not always. I don’t usually like Jessica, but sometimes I do.

Enjoying the season but I don’t care who wins or who goes home. ETA: As long as it’s whoever I chose for the pool.

I am worried about Joshua. He cannot control the actions of the judges but all the standing ovations may hurt him with fans. I hope not but I fear a shock boot of Joshua tonight. I am glad his second snog was popular and if he stays, it will be for that reason and his fans voting a lot.

    My list goes like this
    1. Joshua
    2. Elise
    3. Jessica
    4.Hollie
    5. Skylar
    6. Philip

But I know the final order will probably be reversed. I think Philip will win but I read articles where his fans and Phil do not want to win but just to get second or third place. This way Philip is free to do his own music on an album and not be as restricted as the winner.  If Philip goes out before the finale in 3rd place, i think Skylar will win.  Hollie could be  a big surprise and finish 3rd.  But I fear the next two exits will be Joshua and Elise followed by Jessica.

I think anyone could go tonight except Philip and Skylar who seem to have a legion of devoted of fans who will powe vote for them. Skylar was only in the bottom three once and Philip has never been in bottom 3. Even if he lands there tonight…that would be a shock but I bet he is declared safe right away.

Phillip is my favorite, but I don’t want him to win… 3rd would be great. Not so much pressure. I think Hollie and Joshua will make a good top 2.

  • http://twitter.com/Jakeysnakey19 Jake Williams

no way is Phillip going home. I will sell my right foot if he does.

  • http://twitter.com/glitzyhearts_x Krista

I kind of want Joshua to go home but I don’t think he will. Skylar was my overall favorite last night so I want her to stay but I’m really starting to love Hollie. She had decent performances last night and she was SUPER adorable in the video packages. I hope she stays although it wouldn’t shock me if she went home. I do think a girl will be eliminated. Which one, I don’t know. This season is super hard to predict now.

I agree with what you said about Philip, I do not get him either.
I do not think this show is his style. And he cannot hold a candle to Kris Allen, David Cook, who were WGWG singer/songwriters. Kris and David have much better voices, and Crystal Bowersox was a singer/ artist/songwriter who had an Indie style and she was much, much better than Philip.

I do not get the Philip love other than he is more of a Dave Matthews style singer but I see him as a knock off imitator of Dave Matthews. Of course, I see Skylar as imitating Miranda Lambert.  But she has been able to do songs other than country very well so I have to give her props.

I also like Hollie but I do not get how she has managed to stay this long as she is not as strong of a singer , to me, as Jessica and Elise are. I hope Elise and Joshua are safe tonight .

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

Remember when Casey Abrams tried that type of weird song and got voted off? Maybe what happens to Phillip tonight.

  • Anonymous

    My preferences:

    Joshua
    Elise
    Skylar
    Jessica
    Hollie or Phillip

At this stage I’d love to see a Joshua/Elise/Skylar final three…

    Probably outcome:
    Skylar
Phillip – though I hope not; it’s pretty much his time to go. Him or Hollie anyway.
    Joshua
    Jessica
    Elise
    Hollie

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

I don’t think she has been inconsistent really. She’s had one or two songs that weren’t the best song choices, but to me she has the most versatility there.

  • Anonymous

And the judges , particularly Steven, are really pimping Skylar now and they all praise her so much. She and Joshua both could suffer from the gushing and pimping.

  • Anonymous

Wow pretty amazing that Richard Marx who wrote DWMF for Luthor tweeted Jessica this:

    Richard Marx
    ?
    @richardmarx

Hey @JSanchezAI11 Just watched you sing “Dance With My Father” online. Killer job! You did Luther and me proud. Good luck!

I bet they’ll mention it on Idol tonight!

  • Anonymous

Also, some of the articles I have read about Philip, the authors of these articles seem to think Philip has checked out and he would be relieved to be booted soon with his health problems and the hectic schedule. The package last night seemed to indicate his health issues are flaring again and he is very tired and wants to rest more.  But then again, these authors could be wrong who write these music pieces. But I do get the feeling P2 would not be upset at all to be booted soon as he will probably get signed and then can do his own music that he has written and have more freedom. The winner has a lot of demands put on them and a lot more stress.

  • http://twitter.com/mcdeallover Sunny Mc

Dial idol has Elise, Skylar and Jessica in the bottom 23 (raw data).  Last week it had Colton, it could be another shocker tonight. In my gut I’m worried for Joshua,  I hope his fans didn’t let the standing o’s lull them into not voting.

    ew i put phillip last.

    I agree 100 percent with you!!!,,,,,,JustsayinJG

That is possible. I fear it will be Joshua or Jessica.

  • Anonymous

That would be fantastic. And something tells me he may be relieved with his health problems as Kidney stone attacks are horrible. My dad said kidney stone pain was worse than having cancer. He had kdney stone flare ups off and on for 30 years. They cause extreme pain, fatigue, and nausea.

  • Anonymous

Interesting article, thanks for this link Rob.

The article seemed to indicate Philip does not want to win Idol so he probably will.

  • Anonymous

Joshua is my favorite. And every season, My favorite does not win.
And in cases like Jennifer Hudson, they leave too soon.

  • Anonymous

I can see why you think she is versatile.  I can also understand people who think she has a great voice–I catch glimpses of it within songs.  But I don’t think it often all comes together for her. Whether it’s her look, her song choice, her trying to do too much with a song—I’m not  sure what is wrong but something usually seems off to me.  Others have suggested it is the lack of a musical identity but I actually have no idea what it is.

  • Anonymous

I would like to see Phillip go, but even him I still like. Heck, I liked Colton, I liked Erika, I liked Jermaine and Jeremy and Hallie and Jen and Reed. This has been an enjoyable season for me. For diversity reasons I would not like to see Phillip win, but anyone else winning is fine in my book.

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

I’m thinking that too. Not much talk this week about Joshua. His line was open from the beginning too. No busy signal at all.

  • Anonymous

My husband is a casual fan who watches now and again, he thinks Elise or Jessica will be going home. I am a regular fan who has watched for years and I fear it will be Joshua due to the judges overpimping and that will be sad. If he leaves, then I am all in for Elise at this point.

  • RockiDreams

Still have not purchased anything from this season – came close to buying some of Phil’s stuff but no cigar yet.  The rest –  meh.  I like Hollie but hate the songs she sings.  Those two might be the final two with Joshua coming up third.  I think three girls are up tonight with Elise going home or possibly Skylar.  Jessica is right there with them.

“Sorry for quibbling here MJ, but I really honestly feel nauseous with
anyone calling Phillip an artist when he tries too hard to sound like
DM’s. And frankly DM’s sound isn’t selling like it used to.”

I think MJ’s making a “who I think the voters will vote for” list, not a “who I personally love” list, though, right? That being the case, I don’t think you’re quibbling with her all that much.

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

My List..I know it’s wrong, it always is, but I will try.
1..Elise (My favorite, so of course I put her here.
    2..Hollie
    3..Jessica
    4..Phillip
    5..Joshua
6..Skylar (either skylar or joshua will go home imo)

  • larc

no way is Phillip going home. I will sell my right foot if he does.

He probably won’t… unfortunately (not that I want you to be a uniped).  I thought P2 was an artist earlier.  But now I’m starting to see it all as nothing more than a shtick that’s getting older by the minute.  True art may be a lot of things, but boring is never one of them.  P2’s performances are both boring and indulgent, IMO.

“Remember when Casey Abrams tried that type of weird song and got voted off? Maybe what happens to Phillip tonight.”

I don’t think Casey ever had a huge following of women/girls who thought he was extremely hot or a gorgeous nonthreatening boy, though, did he? I don’t really recall him getting much of a sexy-devil vote. PhilPhil, on the other hand, seems to make a lot of women/girls swoon. (including JLo, Stevie Nicks and Julianne Hough, apparently — good grief)  (Don’t get that at *all,* myself, but that kind of thing is totally a matter of quirks of taste, I guess…)

  • Anonymous

all the people saying jessica shouldnt be going home, she doesn’t deserve to go home, she should win because of how great her voice is, etc…. did you actually vote for her? i did my part and voted about 125 times. i hope she doesn’t get the boot. as even as the night was last night, it could be anybody. im keeping my fingers crossed for p2, but that’s hoping for too much. i honestly don’t know who is going home.

  • Anonymous

I am wondering If Simon would call a few of Philip’s performances self indulgent. I get the feeling he just might, especially Phil’s second song last night. Something tells me Simon would not be a P2 fan and Simon does not like country but he may have appreciated Skylar’s performances and energy.

  • Anonymous

my power list (maybe a little biased)
    1. skylar- some of the strongest performances last night. country vote. dark horse status. peaking at the right time.
    2. joshua- some of the strongest performances last night. gospel/urban vote. judgeds love him, and i feel like the public might too.
    3. hollie-redeemed herself last week and built some steam with great performances and didn’t disappoint this week. pimp spot. age appropriate songs.
    4. jessica-losing steam. performed first. great performances, but maybe lost between other great performances. emotional, age appropriate song may save her though.
    5. elise-killed it with the queen song, which might have saved her. contestant song could put her in danger. obscure song choice. no melody. might put off voters. “i don’t agree with that.”
    6. phillip-novelty, one note queen song. no melody to second song. noncritical judging could keep his fanbase complacent. might not go home, but should (and deservedly so) end up in the b3.

I had never heard a Dave Matthews song until watching him on Jimmy Fallon the other night and did not get the comparison to Phillip… oh except for that wgwg meme…. ;)

  • BonnieDee

If there’s no tweet about a shocker, then it’s definitely Elise.  I think she and the highly pimped Skylar will be in the bottom two.  For some reason, they want Skylar to win to the point that they are “enhancing” her horrible voice now.  I don’t get it.  If an Autotuned singer wins America Idol, then this show has jumped the shark.

This is the best group of vocal talent in maybe any season ever. I think in this season, the voting is performance based more than fanbase-dependent. Based on that, I believe P2 will be going home tonight.

I’m not crazy about anyone this season, but my favorite is Jessica. That said, I don’t even care about who gets voted off. No matter who wins, they will all be forgotten by the general public 5 seconds after the finale.

I read that there are billboards down in the SD area urging people to vote for Jessica. It sounds like she has a very organized fanbase. I know at least one SD radio station has been tweeting urging people to vote for her, as well.

I think that at this point, there really is no “shock” elimination. In my opinion, no one stands out above the others to such an extent that his or her elimination would be a big surprise.

I honestly can’t come up with a list this week. At this point, whoever goes is just really strong. So my list is based on who I like and not on how I think it will go down tonight.

Skylar- she may as well go pro now.
Joshua- just love almost all his performances.
Hollie- I’ve been cheering her on from the beginning. I just love her persona. I want to her to do a Kelly Clarkson transformation.
Phillip- I liked his Dave Matt song a lot.
Jessica- can’t deny her ginormous talent
Elise- I thought what she did with that second song was interesting.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7RWO6ZVTR2Y33QIIUAETVGTZXQ Ken

Khris Allen is the worst winner to me.  He was & still boring, so boring I
fall asleep everytime he’s on.  David Cook is better than Kris, I really liked
Adam Lambert.  Although he’s gay, he still look nice & can really sing well.
I think he only lost to Kris because for a simple reason that he’s gay.  But
he must be laughing all the way to the bank because his songs are still
selling.  I don’t even know if Khris made any money after his win for his
music.  Most of them fade away like Clay Aiken….Daughtry didn’t win but
still selling videos.  I knew Jennifer Hudson had it to win.  I predicted she
is a better singer in the whole group & I was right.

  • Anonymous

I have no idea who is going home.   This is the most evenly matched competition in idol history, imho.  There will be no surprise boots because I could make a case for each of them winning, even if a couple of them are not my cup of tea.

    My power list

Phillip he’s a dude, he has a guitar, he’s charismatic, he’s got the heartthrob status all to himself, he’s performing with health issues, and he gets the artistry edit I think he’s a lock for final two

Here’s where it get’s sketching for me as I think from 2-6 could easily be interchanged.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7RWO6ZVTR2Y33QIIUAETVGTZXQ Ken

I don’t know if it’s her that’s leaving after all the judges saved her.  She
also just got a message from  Richard Marx which is telling that Jessica
has the voice.  Remember Jennifer Hudson loved it when she sang Whitney’s
song & Billy Joel did send her a message as well.  One thing I hope in time
she will be less shy pn the stage.

  • chili1000

As a fan of Hollie I’ll point out that in addition to a couple of clunkers, according to Whatnottosing surveys Hollie has more 5-star performances than any other contestant this season.  She has NOT performed poorly overall this season and she is definitely hitting her stride at the right time.  More than any other contestant remaining, I see her as the one who had the most to learn and she is working hard to apply what Jimmy and the judges are telling her about how to sell a performance.  Even though I don’t expect her to win, I would not be surprised if she did, and I would be even less surprised if she was the last girl standing.  If she is she will have earned that right.

  • Anonymous

I’m already sad because I know I’m gonna lose one of my favorites tonight :(

  • Anonymous

Based on last night’s performances, my list is:

    1. Elise
    2. Joshua
    3. Skylar
    4. Hollie
    5. Jessica
    6. Phillip

If the ability to make such diverse songs as “Movin’ Out,” “In the Midnight Hour,” “Still Rainin’,” “Superstition,” and “Fat Bottom Girls” all sound exactly the same is an art form, Phillip definitely qualifies as an artist. Otherwise, he’s just a guy who can only sing one tempo.

  • Anonymous

I am thinking Elise will probably go home tonight.  But I have thought that every results night for the last few.  If she goes I will miss her: she did an amazing job last night and it was joyous to watch her relax and blossom into her music.  You did good gurl!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_7RWO6ZVTR2Y33QIIUAETVGTZXQ Ken

I can’t stand Skylar.  She reminds me of a beatle bug.  Shapeless &
bounces around…..& her eyes are too closed together.  She isn’t attractive
at all.  She doesn’t think she’s fat, but she is!   I think the little blonde
is the most attractive in looks.  None of guys stands out…. Steven Tyler
sometimes looks high but I wouldn’t know if he is or isn’t.  I do like him
the best.  Randy when Simon was still in AI didn’t say much & now you
can’t even shut him up.  Jennifer is okay, just sitting there looking sexy
    & pretty.

One of the reasons I voted several times for Jessica, is because I didn’t want her to be eliminated with her Dad at the show for the first time (he was serving in the military).

That would be heart breaking if that were to happen with him there.

BonnieDee: If an Autotuned singer wins America Idol, then this show has jumped the shark.

I don’t have a horse in the race this year, but have to say that there is no way Skylar’s voice was autotuned. Steven said they usually sing dry, which means a dry mic with no effects like reverb. Skylar had some reverb on her mic last night, but that was it. It’s not uncommon, and not cheating, and others on Idol have used it before (I believe Jessica had some reverb on her mic for IWALY if I remember correctly – too lazy to go find and rewatch). IMO it’s no harm no foul.

  • http://twitter.com/DanArizmPerez Mauricio Arizmendi

And, to the credibillity of the show,I hope P2 is voted off soon, cuz if he wins, he wont sell like Scotty last year, and I think what Idol needs now is a winner who can sell, not going back to a DeWyze winner, the only one I can see selling (at least a coronation song/first album) is Skylar

  • Anonymous

okay that’s what i was trying to say!! i kept trying to reply but i kept getting a system error. there was definitely some reverb, but that’s it. i didn’t hear any auto-tuning or anything. adding reverb isn’t cheating to me and i think adds a layer to the performance when it is used right (like last night for skylar’s song, and when jessica used it for IWALY).

I don’t see how some think Josh will win. He is the least commercial artist they have right now. His market is the gospel crowd. And it is the crowd I think he wants to aim for as well. A lot like Mandisa. Winning would the worst thing for him.

  • idolstruck

yes I’ve been a fan of Phillip since the start but after hearing Phillip’s studio version of The Stone w/c is so amazing, I’m totally sold that he truly deserves to be No. 1 in the power ranking and he deserves to win.

Even though Josh’s Dad is a preacher, I have never heard him say he wants to put out gospel albums.  I think he would cut a fabulous R&B album and with the right songs, this guy will be huge.  Yes, he can sing gospel; but he has more than proved he can sing any damn genre they throw at him.

  • lilyred

Ummmmm… I do believe Steven was speaking in the abstract, not concrete/literal  meaning of the word “enhanced”.  His meaning to me, as well as a vast number of others who were watching last night, was that her PERFORMANCE enhanced her vocals, as it does week in and week out.  I agree with him.  She is a natural on that stage and it comes through, love her or hate her.  She has a performance quality that the others just don’t possess and believe me, I love several of the others.

  • http://twitter.com/Jakeysnakey19 Jake Williams

He used to sing in church with choirs. I’m sure he asked for some of them.

Wow. Just wow. Feel free to not like Skylar all you want, but reducing it to shit about her appearance is just gross to me.

If Skylar is fat, then so are a lot of COMPLETELY HEALTHY women. Skylar isn’t tiny like Jessica and Hollie, but she isn’t fat.

Well, now that you’ve put it that way, I can see that doing what he’s done definitely does take a pretty rare and unusual talent. lol

As tinawina mentioned, I am really really curious to hear his original stuff. That has to be what his career depends on. I’m assuming that Jimmy and others on the show have heard it, so maybe they see a lot of promise? I’m skeptical, though, since I don’t see him having much of an original style in is covers, and usually you do, with strong singer-songwriter types, seems to me.

I know right. I thought we were finally moving past the bullying phase in today’s society. Sad that people still think like him.

  • Jen Boisvert

Ken, many of your comments have been very degrading. Talking about how you don’t like someone’s personality or way they sing is one thing, commenting about how Skylar looks like a beetle and is fat is another. That was rather pathetic and childish.

And your comments before that about Adam being gay as a reason he didn’t win really drew my ire. That was the most ridiculous and homophobic thing to say. I’m hoping MJ pulls that one if she already hasn’t. You brought up how he looks and who he loves as a reason not to get voted for.

Please reconsider posting on this board if you’re not going to think before you write.

I don’t know. I have a feeling that somewhere in the Idol stable of incredibly generic songwriters and awkward-lyric specialists, somebody’s hard at work on a mid-tempo coronation single with a three-note range.

  • Anonymous

    chili,

Great comments! I am so glad that you mentioned WNTS.  They do show her having more five star performances. It was the dissing and inaccurate criticism from the judges which has created the appearance that somehow she was lagging  behind in this competition.

I do think that she has been getting better and better.  I am really proud of how she has hung in there. Not once did she show any attitude even when the judges were so wrong in their harsh and baseless criticism.  She just took it all and then came back and showed them what she’s got. I don’t expect her to win, but every week she makes it through makes me very happy!

  • Chris

Actually, country music for females is a very crowded front. I can see Skylar having some success, but not at a Scotty or Carrie, etc
.. level. Even Miranda Lambert’s latest album didn’t get to Platinum yet. As long as the big 2 are in place, Taylor Swift who is writing a new album & Carrie, everyone else is just alright. Plus, teenage boys almost always outsell teengirls.

Idol has not had a true pop star in a while. I think that’s the untapped market.

Thanks! Wish I could make out the lyrics better; I kept losing them in the grimace The song kind of doesn’t go anywhere, for me, but I know there are people who like songs of that sort. I kind of imagine that every song he’s written has pretty much that exact same vibe, though… don’t know whether that’ll be a good thing or a bad thing for him.

I agree with Chris regarding Skylar.  Country music is filled with so many female singers already. Do they need another one that sounds the same?  Her strength is being a great performer. The voice is nothing special for me.  The judges have been going way overboard with their praise.  She has some technical issues, but because she is so good on that stage I am not sure that it matters.

I also agree that she would not have the success of someone like Scotty or Carrie.  I loved the last sentence. So true! There hasn’t been a pop star in a while and I do think there is a market for it.  Adele has shown us that people do want to hear a great voice, technically skilled and also able to reach out and touch us.  There is a yearning for real vocals, not that autotuned, synthesized crap.

where has that phillip been? i actually liked that…. but what he’s been doing on the show is just… let’s just say if i were the california governor, i would declare a state of emergency for the hollywood and surrounding areas. it’s been a disaster, at least to me.

  • Chris

Yeah, Jessica’s fan base mobilized so her luck may not hold up to the F1, but they not going down easily. I am sure like P2 she gets a record deal either way.

I am impressed with the civility on this blog!  It seems most appreciate that all 6 are talented even though they may not be their cup of tea.  And what is better, opinions are expressed in a civil way.  YAY.  I recall many moons ago when there were fan wars!

  • http://twitter.com/Sowsyalite Sowsyalite

I have no problem with Hollie. I just think her fans are overreacting to what seems as judges not giving her the right comments.

She has had the pimp spot twice now so that alone should give us a hint they want her to move forward in the competition. When she was off, like the Flashdance song – she more than deserved to get the boot the time.

The weird contemporary weeks give her some room to excel at what she does best – ballads. As much as she deserves to move forward based on her performance last night – I still don’t see her deserving to win AI though.

  • Anonymous

I think what is important/ counts is how Hollie responded to the judges comments.  At times I thought they were right and at times I disagreed.  But, Hollie took it all in stride and “kept on keeping on”.  YAY. For her.  I don’t put much stock in the so called “pimp” spot and it would be interesting to see stats on how that has worked out for contestants.  I believe people vote for who they like regardless of their order of appearance.  Some are influenced by judges comments I imagine, and some are turned off if judges seem too biased.  Perception is everything, and how one sees and hears, is how one will vote.

I was late to the AI game and when I first tuned in I saw heaps of praise from the judges for Jessica and the opposite for Hollie.  As I was late to the party, I had developed no bias.  My instant reaction was I totally disagreed with the judges and found Hollie’s voice to sound pure. and i saw potential. .  Jessica appeared robotic to me and I don’t see improvement there.  I think since she was “saved” by the judges, her performances have declined.  She surely has potential too.

I was surprised when I first tuned in at the raves from judges for Joshua and didn’t quite get it, as he was screechy to me.  And every time with the choir singers was a turn off.

Skylar sounded more like Reba to me when I first tuned in and I don’t like Reba’s voice so naturally, I didn’t care for Skylar’s brand even though she puts a lot of energy into her music.  I thought recently at one point she was growing on me, but last night told me “no, she isn’t.”

PP seemed “ordinary” to me on first watch.  I see how he would appeal to teens though.

Elise…not my cup of tea up on first watch. She seemed to be all over the place vocally and appeared to be surly which was not inviting as a performer for me.  A bit over the top in my book.

I was not sad that Colton went home last week.  His music was mostly boring for me.

So. There was not one that totally stood out.  Hollie got my attention more than the others from the start and that has not changed.

B3 will be Elise, Skylar and Hollie. Hollie won’t be the bottom though. Sure Elise will end up going. She is inconsistent and doesn’r really have a large enough fan base IMO.

We will soon know.  Is Idol on at 8 this evening?

  • Anonymous

I loved Josh last night.  He’s my fav after P2 and Elise.  Problem is I just don’t see him fitting into any current music format, maybe Christian.  He just seems so throwback in his style & look. That’s why I’m surprised they are pimping him so much.  But I hope he stays.  As some have said not his fault what the judges do.

I think Elise will go because her 2nd song is too off the wall.  I don’t think Elise or Phil have watched Idol much.  They don’t seem to know how to play the Idol game like the younger kids.  But Im okay with that.  I think both P2 and Elise can do the singer/songwriter thang and have a good fanbase, maybe not as mainstream as some would like. I can’t complain cause I haven’t voted this year and wont til they change the voting system.  But I have bought Itunes for Phil, Elise and Colton.  So I’ll continue to support them with my dollars.

Well, I don’t think he has a lot of experience, does he? Experience helps the people who are singing in an established style to do covers, but I think it really really really helps somebody trying to remake the covers in an individual/indie-ish style. Trying to do *that* every week, on live national tv, with songs coming from every possible genre and style, has to be a huge challenge for somebody who doesn’t have a big backlog of such experience to draw on, I think. Plus, he’s felt bad, so with drained energy from pain, it’s going to be even harder.

I have found his studio versions to be a lot better (and those of most of the other contestants this year, too), which I’ll bet relates to nerves and things like lack of performing experience.

I hope anyone but Hollie leaves tonight, but I would feel bad if Joshua and Skylar left too.

I’m hoping it’s either B. B. Chez or P2…but I doubt it for this week.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

The website What Not To Sing has an essay on the pimp spot. They ran the stats for this. The effect is very real up until the later rounds… in fact this may be the last week it matters. It is relatively rare to get voted out from the pimp spot until you get to around top 5(?).

It is always weird because I see Hollie and Jessica in the exact opposite way (but then again I have been watching all season, so maybe that is it). Both impressed me early on but as the competition marched on, Hollie was singing a ballad every week and belting it like she didn’t understand a word of it… she was stiff and unconvincing, even if her voice was pretty and she seemed sweet. Jessica had just as many problems connecting at first but she mixed up tempos, displayed flashed of sass (Love You I Do, Hollywood week), and showed improvement by learning how to pull back sometimes, show subtlety, tame the vibrato and eventually connected more to the songs IMO. And over the course of the season I feel like I now know what kind of artist she is and what kind of record she’d make.

I do think Hollie improved last week and this week, but I feel like it took forever. LOL, When the judges were slamming her I was just as frustrated with her as they were, so I got it even if I thought they went at her a little too hard the week Jessica got the boot.

Right now I feel like the judges are exasperated with Jessica because she has yet to do what Skylar does – own the stage and put on a show – at least not since the semis week. Honestly, I think almost being kicked off scared her back into a box where she’s afraid to take any risks. YouTube Jessica has energy, I think this Jessica is frightened out of her wits.

I have noted a change in Jessica’s performances since she was “saved” as noted in an earlier post.  It appeared to me the judges thought she could do not wrong and she believed them.  Then WHAM!  Slap me in the face and the judges are having to save me.  No doubt her confidence has been shaken and I think that is partially the judges fault.  To me, Hollie on the other hand, has had virtually no confidence building moments but appears to be gaining some momentum.  They are both very young and no doubt, even for seasoned performers, nerves play a huge role.  I think nerves get to Hollie and I really believe if she can overcome that to some reasonable degree (if she remains) that she may surprise some.  If I had to choose one of the females (other than Hollie) it would be Jessica as both Elise and Skylar are surely not my cup of tea.  It would actually be fun for both Jessica and Hollie to be top 2.  Never gonna happen though.   :)

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Great point. And Lauren was really young too.

Thanks for the link… Very interesting original, a welcome relief from the formula popsong, which yell the chorus over and over.  He writes something like Bo Bice…simple lyrics with no melody.

  • Anonymous

Exactly.  A little confidence building can do wonders!  :)

  • Anonymous

I think Hollie getting the pimp spot and ending the show with a standing ovation will save her, I would be shocked if she is bottom 3.  I think instead Jessica going first may hit bottom 3 and Elise and Joshua too..if not Josh, maybe Skylar?

  • http://twitter.com/Jakeysnakey19 Jake Williams

Would definitely love a Jessica vs Hollie finale. Sadly that won’t happen.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick kesia monteith

I would appreciate a Hollie and Jessica finale, as long as they don’t “limp” there. I know everyone has they ups and downs, but I sense an uneven feeling from both of them and their performances. If they both make the top 5, they better pick it up and fight it out like the did in the beginning. I want to see a stronger Hollie and Jessica. They have proven they have it in them.

  • Anonymous

I think Josh can do far more than Gospel, He has shown that in the Idol competition. He can do soul, r and b very well too.

  • Anonymous

What will save Hollie is her performance of last night!  She nailed it.  I don’t think the so called pimp spot had a thing to do with it.  Frankly, as I watched I was not motivated to vote even though I have been supporting Hollie with my votes for the last few weeks.  Her 2nd performance motivated me to vote for 2 hours.  And it motivated me to get other friends in Texas to vote for 2 hours.  It had nothing to do with the judges or her being the last to perform.   I felt like she had really tried and was deserving of my vote.

I agree, if Philip wins, I am seeing Lee DeWzye success for him, maybe a little better than Lee but along the same track.  Kris Allen and Dave Cook are both the WGWG cut guy but I think they are both more versatile and talented with better voices and range than Phil.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Doran-Rayne/100001844671305 Doran Rayne

I hope not, Hollie is not ready for prime time and Jessica has totally lost her confidence. Maybe things will change in the next few weeks but for now it would be very weak if either of them won the competition.

  • Anonymous

It ain’t over until the fat lady sings.  I hope she doesn’t sing for either of them tonight!  It would be cool with them as top 2, but I don’t think it will happen either.

  • Tess

What I’m anxiously waiting for….the day Hollie does a performance with the same innocence and vivacity that she did in her interviews about herself and the other finalists last night.  She was so damn cute and charismatic and you (I guess “I”) just wanted her as a friend.

  • Anonymous

I couldn’t agree more with them having it.  Now, they just need to bring it.  I think that would an exciting finale.

  • Anonymous

THIS.  Spot on analogy.  I hope her confidence has been lifted a bit and that she “will let go”.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I agree, that’s why I said Improved Hollie and Improved Jessica. In their current state neither really deserves it over, say, Skylar or Josh I think. But you never know who could step up to the plate.

Sad to see Elise go.  Kinda glad to get my evenings back tho.  I wasn’t really invested tons this year.  Only voted last night.  I don’t really care who wins…I didn’t realize just how Elise was keeping me tuning in until now.

I can get some gardening done in the evenings now!

My best to Elise, I hope she puts out a CD soon, I’d be willing to bet she has caught the eye/ear of many songwriters already.  I love her voice, so I’ll be interested.

“He’s an ARTIST. He got a decent amount of positive pimping last night, and he performed fairly well.”
Okay, so “artist” = voice that’s barely average yet “makes songs his own” = makes them sound all the same.

Performed fairly well? More like FAIL. FAIL. FAIL.

A long time ago, somebody posted that DialIdol is the most accurate at 9:30 EST. DI at 9:30 accurately predicted the bottom 3. Hollie didn’t start doing well until we hit the West Coast.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I mean to reply to this hours ago but I forgot. Thank you for posting it Jake!

So hearing this it seems like Phillip could go in a Civil Wars-ish direction which could work for him, but he needs to write better songs than this IMO. He did say it was a song he wrote early on (I think) so maybe his later stuff is a lot better, I hope.

  • revcat

In my opinion Josh is the best all around performer. His talent is not limited to Gospel; also the guy can move around on the stage better than anyone there. That little run he did toward the end of his second song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard! He deserves to be in the final two, but who knows!

  • http://twitter.com/Lutrell4 Ira

No one has been as consistent as Joshua. His power ranking should be a solid #1.
