johnny should NOT be brought back, should be someone who actually wasn’t cut until this weeks episodes

  • Anonymous

Why just males?  For a show that sorely needs a female winner they sure do stack the deck the other way.

  • Mirandy

Well, in a way, it kind of gives the girls an advantage.  They will get a little more time and attention because there will be one less performance to squeeze in.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=195101108 Stefan Wind

Is it just me, but those photos make Reed and P2 looks AMAZING! Sorry, couldn’t resist. Totally rooting for Hollie C. and Erika next week though.

  • Kesia Monteith

Tell me about it. It is so misleading.

  • stargazed

I hated the focus on making the contestants cry last night and then focusing the cameras on them.  That, to me, was not entertaining and at one point, I left the room.  I’d rather watch silly auditions than to watch grown men cry.  It was such a waste of time, especially last night.  That was not fun.

Their huge surprise was just a meh to me as I don’t think one more guy will make a difference.  There is so much talent on stage already so why do they feel the need to add more?

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree.  I also think that the judges purposely torture the contestants to ramp up their emotions and get them so overwrought that they can’t help but break down.  This is the “sadistic” part of Idol that I really hate.

  • Hazehel

I know I have complained about this before (when the spoilers appeared), but no black girls?  Really!

  • Anonymous

Don’t remember seeing anything of Chase, but love that picture of him. And Baylie is beautiful, very marketable.

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

Do you think we will see 4 girls brought back the second night? And is it Tuesday/Wednesday next week or Wednesday/Thursday?

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

OK, so it’s early here in Philly. All I had to do was look around on the front page to see it’s Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday next week. As it is every season. How quickly I can forget, LOL. *grabs second cup of coffee to wake up*

I’ve barely paid any attention to AI this year – so far. I’ve never been a big fan of the auditions and Hollywood. Heejun has been the only when that’s penetrated my disinterest and it’s his humor that caught me not his singing. I haven’t even heard him sing yet. So this is the first time I’ve really focused in on the faces and names.

To me many of the men are very distinctive – they aren’t all pretty and homogenous. I’d say that Johnny Keyser and DeAndre jumped out at me.

All the girls are the same to me other than Jessica Sanchez. There’s some attitude there and the combination of asian/hispanic (I’m assuming that’s the combo) makes for a very interesting face.

If AI really does want a girl to win this year then why have they given us multiple Hallies, Hollys, Haleys and Ballies? Why do I scroll through this crowd of girls and all I get is long blond tresses and perfect smiles that tell me nothing about them? Okay… there some long dark tresses too – still with perfect smiles. They better have amazing, extraordinary voices to cut thru my current disinterest.

Superficial, I know. But part of making a star is a “look” that catches peeps. So I’m rather happy I haven’t listened to the singing. It gives me a different take. Now I’ll move on to see if any of these folks have a voice that interests me as much as their face.

  • revcat

Stupid twist, but if I could choose it would be David. Jermaine is too Old Man River, Johnny too full of himself, and Cowboy has zero charisma. However, if he is chosen, David absolutely must branch out and prove he is not trying to be a Michael Jackson clone.

  • TheOther

Watch Phillip Phillips get the heartthrob votes.

  • revcat

No J HUD style divas this year? Damn, what’s up with that. Oh maybe Jessica Sanchez? I like her.

  • koshka

Its what my husband and I call ethnically ambiguous. :) You see these faces a LOT in commercials. LOL Next time you watch tv, take notice of the commercials. My adoptive daughter is ethnically ambiguous with one of those faces that is not necessarily striking, but unusual, interesting.

  • Tess

Kids, today, aren’t stupid…in fact I’m pretty sure that peeps who are really interested in music and a performing career start thinking about about their personal package pretty damn early on.  They know, as do many of us, that image is just as important as the voice and so they work on that.  Besides, as far as smiles and such, I don’t know a young teen that hasn’t gone the braces route or who isn’t into contacts by the time they are into high school if their parents can afford it and whitening toothpastes and fluoride has been around for some time. And, for the girls, long hair is very, very in and most of the blondes look pretty natural to me.

Its a little sad that ethnicity is a little weak this year…but I am pretty sure that the judges were never concerned about making sure they had a racial mix…I’ll trust that it was about skills and performances and not because they consciously discarded all the blacks (and I don’t remember seeing many Hispanics or Asians in the top 300).

Since I knew by way of spoilers who the top 24 were months ago I never allowed myself to get attached to anyone outside of their number, anywhos.  I think these kids, for the most part, are pretty contemporary, have good voices, and most importantly don’t seem to be pieces of wood nailed down to the floor.  I’m in for the long haul…in fact I think I will go out and buy lots of popcorn and a big bottle of tequila, and a super-size of atomic fireballs as I get ready for a fun and interesting 3 months…both in front of my TV and online.

  • http://twitter.com/BobbiNJ Bobbi

I can’t remember him at all either! Glad I’m not alone. lol

  • Anonymous

I actually think by having THREE female country singers and ZERO male country singers, they are trying to stack the deck in the girls’ favor. Don’t forget, all a 13th guy here means is that they’ll cut 7 guys instead of 6 and the top 12 will still be half and half.

  • Tess

    Chase is country, isn’t he?

  • http://twitter.com/CanadianLady2 CanadianLady

Chase is 100% country, but according to him more Lady Antebellum or Rascal Flatts than Scotty McCreery. From West Virginia. And if you ask me, he should have the heart-throb vote. :)

Not that I’d be voting for him – I’m still in Heejun’s corner. Although I thought Jermaine had an amazing tone in his voice in the song he did with Rickie Law (aka Cowboy) and would be happy to see him included.

  • Anonymous

Johnny has the best voice. I was SO angry when he was sent home. I think he’s the only one that has a chance at actually winning the whole thing out of the second chance contestants. He needs to come back

  • Anonymous

So we have a Haley, a Hallie, and a Hollie- plus for good measure a Baylie as well.

All blond girls- their first task is going to be doing something to differentiate themselves from the others.

There are three other blond girls on top of that- Shannon, Erika, and Elise.

If I was one of these blond girls I would be seriously thinking about how I would look as a redhead!

  • hcpoirot

YAWN. the 4 boys for a spot in top 13 boys clearly is (measley) attempt by Nigel and co to change the Idol and regain the ratings.

Clearly when they shoot the revealing top 24 semifinalist episode, this another spot for a boy is not in the agenda.

    Predictable.

  • Tess

Ooooh…I adore red heads.  Best comment of the day!

  • Tess

Interesting that so many people ridicule Nigel and company’s manipulations…but those manipulations are still front and center when it comes to hype and media interest.  Marketing is all about catching someone’s interest…I bet a lot of people watched the entire hour last night just to see what the twist was…that’s good TV.  Reality shows are NEVER about the subtle…most people need to be hit in the face.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I just watched most of the the Las Vegas YouTube clips rounds trying to catch a few of the T24 fodder and there were a lot of girls of color in Vegas. But I have to say I see why most of them got cut. I don’t like it, but I get it. I think that’s just the way the chips fell this year.

That said, Ariel is still awesome and I would have kept her and ditched one of the Hollies/Haleys. Not because of her race, but because she was good and had some presence.

I have no idea who is going to get through on the girls side. I agree with y’all it will all be about standing out, so that puts Jessica and Skylar at an advantage I think, because they have lots of stage presence and no one sounds exactly like them. Jen had a lot of screen time so she has an edge too. Erika’s voice is distinctive but we know she doesn’t always pick the right songs. After that it is a real tossup.

For the boys, Heejun, P2 and Reed are locks, I think Deandre and Joshua have strong shots if they perform well. The wildcard pick will have an advantage. Adam and/or Colton will get through just to annoy me. LOL

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WC5Q6ULBZZD3YT6AIN4NTU4S74 Whiteshirt

Every time I think about this particular top 24, all I can think of is Poor Hollie Cavenaugh — no one even knows she exists this year.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t know considering his lack of airtime ;)

  • Kesia Monteith

I feel the same way about the black females. Aside from Candice and Arielle (or Ariel?) getting screwed over, all the minority females shown were average at best, and had no real star power. I thought the girl who fainted during the first Hollywood rounds deserved to go further.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

I still hate the idea of this wilcard business for the guys especially when you consider it’s not being done for the females.  I do realize it was unfair to David Leathers with their being only one spot left but I do agree with the comment above that he’s going to have to prove he isn’t just another MJ wannabe.  After I watched last night’s episode, I can understand, just based on watching Eben and David’s SYFYL segments why David was cut.  He may have gotten a bad edit but I was kind of turned off by his apparent ego just before they aired his audition and then during the HW rounds.

I hate the fact we’ve got to see Richie Law again.  If I could have brought any of those four back, it probably would have been Johnny K.  I honestly can’t see Richie or Jermaine of those 4 making it far in the competition.

I hate to admit it too but that photo of Reed doesn’t look half bad.

I haven’t watched a single night of AI this year, so don’t have a clue about  any of these Top 24 + 4. Lots of pretty blonde girls. Will probably start watching next week to see if anyone grabs my attention like James did last year.

I think  it will be Jermaine who comes back. There isn’t one baritone/bass in the top 12 guys.  I think it should be David, and I really hope that he is the one picked.  If it’s Richie, then I don’t get what’s going on at all–he’s like Scotty but way less talented or attractive.  As for Johnny, it could be him because it was weird that he got cut.

    Other thoughts:

    Skylar looks like Tracy Ullman

Chase looks like Brendan Frasier (and I’m surprised he made it through; he’s not that great a singer.  Super good looking though.)

I think Reed Grimm is a genius.  Seriously, I think he’s someone who is a little out there because he’s a genius.

I don’t get why Creighton Fraker made it through.  He’s dramatic, looks like Constantine Maroulis, and doesn’t seem that talented.

Adam–please don’t let him cry on camera ever again.

Looking forward to Jen and Reed.  Hoping that the blond girls can distinguish themselves on Wednesday–there’s a bunch of ‘em.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Yup. Ariel and Candice were the standouts, and while I understand why they may have slipped through the cracks, this was the absolute wrong year to do this. Twitter was full of angry people last night. We’ll see next week, but this could really bite them in the ass if people don’t calm down.

  • Anonymous

Actually, Jessica Sanchez is quite talented.  And realistically, even the winner will not be a “star.”  I think AI wants to stack the deck with people who will be employed beyond their first album.  Jessica and Eban are attractive for singing and acting, and I can’t believe that AI hasn’t tapped into the powerhouse that is Disney and Nick shows for kids.  Singers from those shows pack the arenas.

  • Anonymous

He was in the Savannah Audition with Aaron Marcellus. He was with Colton Dixon and Skylar Laine in Vegas.

  • Anonymous

Jessica is of Filipino background so that does bring in both Asian and Hispanic roots. You’re right!

  • Anonymous

Yep, you have Jessica Sanchez to fit that bill.

  • Anonymous

Same here. I tried not to get myself attached to those outside the list. A few names did stick though:

    Johnny Keyser
    Lauren Grey
    Candice Glover
    Schyler Dixon
    Ariel Sprague

  • Anonymous

That he is. We also have another potential country singer in awful cowboy, but who’d want him after that edit.

  • Anonymous

They are very different when it comes to style of singing. After the initial what’s their name again, it’s easy to associate who’s who.

  • Anonymous

Dish schedule shows Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday  Two hours each night.

  • Anonymous

Not exactly no one. People who have been avid fans of season 10 will remember her. And then you had that short bit of hollywood + vegas group + vegas sfyl clip. If she pulls a Kris Allen/Allison Iraheta, she’ll definitely pull through.

  • Peerapong Jaroensuk

I think this wildcard is gonna be Johnny Keyser because the pics of top 24 and the other three wildcards seem to be from the same set that they shot the day they performed (told by their clothes), which mean they took the pics of top 42 beforehand and Johnny’s pic was shot separately. So they called Johnny to flew from Florida and took just a single shot for a wildcards gallery?? I don’t think so.

  • Peerapong Jaroensuk

just excited to see what the underrated people (Hollie, Haley, Hallie, Aaron, Chase, Jeremy, Chelsea, Brielle) would do to save themselves after they realise that they have almost no screentime or a really impressive moment to gain fanbases, and Brielle with a bad edit about her mom. If they do well, they’re a dark horse. But if not, they’re forgotten forever.

  • Anonymous

What I thought was odd that they didn’t mention that she’d made it to the Top 40 last year before being cut.  Odd, given that they made a big deal of mentioning a few others that were cut before, came back and made it to Top 24.  They may have mentioned it during the initial auditions, but I didn’t see it this week.

  • Anonymous

I agree.  It was odd that they didn’t mention she’d made it to the Top 40 last year before being cut.  If you aren’t an avid AI fan, you’d think she is a total newcomer.

  • Anonymous

I agree.  It’s odd that they didn’t mention she made it to the Top 40 last year before being cut.  Especially since they made a big deal out of other contestants’ similar experiences (DeAndre, Colton, etc.).

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1403015987 Sharon Ulrich Davis

    I’m beginning to think Nigel
is pulling a “Simon Cowell , XFactor, bring back a front contender you
shouldn’t have sent home” type thing here. Clearly Johnny Keyser was a
favorite and his elimination made no sense, just like Melanie’s on XF
didn’t. Shame on Nigel if that’s what he’s doing!!!!

  • tomr

VFTW should just go ahead and select Heejun.  He certainly fits the bill.  Unless they bring his buddy back…then they could be selected together.
