Reed Grimm is pretty good. Not sure bout the other one.

I like Reed because I like quirky contestants with real talent and I love jazz. Although, he does seem to be doing a  bit of a copy on Casey Abrams right down to the same shorts! LOL! Of course, he has a few years on Casey–and I think professional experience behind him. He will be my fave contestant if he doesn’t completely rip off what Casey did on the show. That would make me think twice about him.

I think I saw on a previous post here that he is a drummer.  My grandfather was a musician in the big band era and he told me that drummers are generally the craziest of all musicians. So, Reed ought to be fun to watch.

I don’t like the first guy (Phillip). I like Reed’s voice. But his movements remind me of Taylor Hicks.

I’m lovin’ Reed Grimm!! His audition is utterly refreshing–not the normal fare of overused audition tunes and his creativity is highly entertaining.

From what I’ve heard so far, I’m liking him the best.

Not sure how I feel about Phillip; it sounds like there’s a great voice in there, but I’m not sure he’s accessing it as well as he could.  As for Reed… contestants like him are why I’ll take AI over XF/The Voice/AGT/etc any day.  If I Only Had a Brain?  The Family Matters theme song?  Yes, please.  More of that.  It’s so ridiculous that it ends up working really well.

Just searching around on youtube & Reed comes from a very musical family–like the Reinharts. Here he is with his two sisters and brother. They are funny too–very cool

Hmmm…I hope they have better then this lol.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

IDK if he learnt all these natural moves 3 months after seeing Casey on AI. They were already there. But probably Casey influenced him. Jazz (and rock) singers rarely try for AI. 99% of them think this is a cheesy silly show and it’s not about music – and they’re right. But, nevertheless, it’s a huge plataform.
Maybe seeing a jazz singer doing well in the competition inspired him to try out.

Reed has tried out for Idol 4 times before but only made it as far as producer’s round. This year, his sister won a golden ticket at American Idol Experience and gave it to him so he could finally sing in front of real judges ;)

  • larc

I can’t see either of them lasting long unless they are far better than these auditions.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

Well, I can see he’s not a perfect singer, but he’s not terrible. I’m pretty sure that there are a lot of good people that are cut in producers rounds.

Thanks for the video, i like this guy and this other video http://youtu.be/IyLOXwvGVhM

Well, um, the first guy is like a hybrid of Lee and Taylor. Kinda awful. And Reed, while better, is a Casey + Taylor hybrid. Reed seems a little Weird Al Yankovic too. I don’t know guys LOL He looks like Mr.Personality. I mean he’s good but IDK. I think he’ll be a little too ~weird/quirky for middle America. But then again he’s a guy so it’s  more accepting for guys to be different than girls on these shows.

Not a good first impression for me anyways..
Phillip seems like that kind of intoverted thing that everyone seems to love these last few years (Aiden Grimshaw etc..) I see them hailing him as some soul singer which I disagree with
Reed has a good voice, but I can’t take these “jazzy” singers seriously.. Was the same with Casey, although they are/were good, it comes off as real contrived and trained to me.. He aint no Louis Armstrong/Sarah Vaughan haha..
Rant over anyways, looking forward to season 11! ;)

  • chessguy99

I hope Reed is the last guy standing, we could actually have an all girl top 3 if he is.

They’re both okay. Liked Reed more than Phillip, but not really impressed with either. Thanks to the person who mentioned what Reed was singing. I had no clue.

  • Anonymous

I am impressed in the first video that they prominently SHOW Taylor as a past winner and not behind one of the columns….will wonders never cease…

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Ugh…that Phillips dude was all over the place.  Sloppy.  He actually made Top 40?

  • GS61

Both guys seem a little quirky to me. I like the voice of the first guy Phillip slightly better. (Who names their kid Phillip Phillips?).
    Anyway, neither one WOWED me.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Phillip Phillips has an annoying name. That is all.

  • Anonymous

I prefer Phillip’s voice, but dude needs to work on his performance/delivery.

Reed seems like he’ll be fun to watch.  I get a Jason Mraz vibe from him.

  • Hazehel

No fairy tale ending on Idol for either of them I’m afraid.   At least Reed is more watchable than that TV show of his name, now that was grim.

  • Anonymous

oh god the guys are going to piss me off this year I just know it..

  • Anonymous

LOL, all I can say from seeing Reed Grimm video is that my Idol’s picture is not hidden behind a potted plant.

  • Christopher Auyeung

Phillip Phillips needs to stop yelling at me.

Getting a AI Experience Golden ticket doesn’t get you to the judges, you get to go first at the cattle calls. There were maybe two at the San Diego auditions, and I don’t think either made it past R1.

  • http://twitter.com/fjucz Tom

Oh, ok. I thought that with golden ticket you can actually skip the first cattle calls/producers rounds and get straight to the celebrity judges. Still, there’s a picture of Reed’s sister winning golden ticket over at Idoldoforums.

Gee, how MANY times has Superstition been performed on Idol.

Taylor Hicks’ standup got a primo spot in Savanna, eh?  Very nice!

I like that first guy who has that great gritty voice like Taylor!  Good blues sound. Funny there’s always someone in every season that reminds people of Taylor Hicks! Hard to forget, I guess ;)

I think what I said didn’t come out quite like I meant it. I don’t think Reed learned anything about music from Casey. Casey auditioned when he was 19. Reed is I think 26 or so–and has obviously been doing music for quite awhile. I guess–I don’t want to see him just try to be the same idol guy in a way–if that makes sense. Casey was my fave contestant ever–so maybe it has something to do with that.

I have checked out youtubes and he seems to be very talented and versatile. Definitely not your typical AI person–which is big plus for me. I saw something his band did to advertise their cd and it’s freakin hilarious!
I do wonder though how the majority of idol viewers will take him. After all, Casey’s beard was controversial LOL! ( I never did get that)

I will be very surprised if Reed is not in the top 24–I will be surprised if he’s not it the top 12. I think Tyler probably loves this guy. He already said something comparing him to Casey. Tyler loved Casey. Tyler appreciates musicians.

Yes, I AM impressed!!  And majorly stoked to get the season rollin’!!

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick kesia monteith

That first guy WISHES to be Taylor Hicks

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick kesia monteith

Where the hell is Scott Dangerfield? Can we have a profile on him now? It occurred to me that all I care about so far is Jessica Sanchez (and even she is hit and miss for me) Deandre Brackensick, and Scott. And that Phillips dude is just another Lee Dewyze sound alike. Bring on my Dangerfield this instant, I want some REAL white boy soul.

Oh yea…. definitely not in the same galaxy, talent wise. Few are, tho ;)

  • Anonymous

Phillip Phillips will make it pretty far on his name alone lol

  • Anonymous

ouch. i only lasted 15 seconds on phillip’s audition. reed fared better, but he really isn’t marketable according to idol’s standards.

  • Chrissie H

None of these guys could catch my attention and interest. They can sing o.k., but their voices and genre is not my taste. No, they can´t tempt me to watch AI

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Oh dear, I feel guilty for not thinking about Casey or even Lee.  It was Taylor Hicks that came to mind with their movements.  However, Taylor can sing…sing very well!  Reed may get through to TOP 24.  I need to see more.

  • mchcat

I sure hope these “spoiler” folks are better during the show – right now it looks like the deck is being stacked with horrible boys and not so horrible girls in the hopes for a girl winner

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

I’m not really impressed by either of these guys.  I would have to say that vocally speaking, Reed is the better of the two but I don’t really see either of these guys as being very marketable. imo

  • Anonymous

That was genius by Reed Grimm.  He seems like a musician/entertainer with a bright soul that loves to perform.  Very excited to see more.
