American Idol 11 – Johnny Keyser Videos (Was He Robbed?)

Check out these new videos from Johnny Keyser, the soulful American Idol 11 hearthrob who was dumped from the show  suddenly after his performance in Las Vegas.  If you recall, he was one of 4 male contestants vying for a spot as a “second chance idol” to make the Top 24 a Top 25. The spot was given instead to–as we were soon to learn–the troubled Jermaine Jones.

In the first video, Johnny meets with producer Bryan Lenox and reps from Yamaha Artists division, held in Lenox’s studio in Franklin, TN on March 16. It was Johnny’s first time in a recording studio. Demarco Johnson accompanied him on piano in a set list of songs including: “A Change is Gonna Come,” “You And I,”‘ “Use Me,”  “Ordinary People,” and a full version of “Sitting on the Dock of the Bay.”

In the second clip Johnny sings Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” with singer, Amber Caparas

So what do you think? Was Johnny robbed? He’s certainly talented enough to have made the Top 24.  If Nigel Lythgoe had been serious about adding a truly talented contestant as a wildcard to the Top 24, it would have been Johnny (or David Leathers, Jr.) rather than the mediocre Jermaine Jones.

It makes me wonder what exactly was going on behind the scenes here. Why didn’t Johnny make the Top 24? A threat to chosen ones like Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, perhaps? Hm.  Or maybe there were disagreements going down behind the scenes we’ll never be privy to. Hm.
