American Idol 11 Finale Spoilers

Finale spoilers from The Hollywood Reporter:

  • The girls will pay homage to the late Donna Summer while the boys to Robin Gibb with the songs of the Bee Gees.
  • A group performance featuring disco era greats  Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston and Gladys Knight joined by Nelly Furtado, Sheila E., Jennifer Holliday and the Season 11 girls.
  • Later in the show, the girls perform with Chaka Khan.
  • Kristin Chenoweth will duet with Jessica Sanchez on the Donna Summer-Barbra Streisand tune “Enough is Enough.”
  • John Fogerty will duet with Phillip Phillips
  • Reba McEntire will sing with Skylar Laine
  • Joshua Ledet and Fantasia will join forces.
  • Jordin Sparks and Hollie Cavanagh will sing a Broadway showtune
  • Jessica Sanchez and Jennifer Holliday will reprise “And I Am Telling You.”
  • The boys will sing with Neil Diamond on a group number
  • Wisin and Yendel will perform with Jennifer Lopez,

As previously announced, Rihanna is also set to perform, while Joe Perry of Aerosmith has revealed that the band will debut its new single at the finale.

    The last Ford commercial normally has the Top 2 singing a duet featuring a montage of the season’s past Ford commercials, which is strange considering Phillip has only appeared in like 2 or 3 of them. I do think he’ll show up for this last one though. I mean, it’s the least he could do, they’re giving him a car!

    The last Ford commercial is usually the one I like best. Kris and Adam’s “I Will Remember You” and Scotty and Lauren’s “Whenever You Remember” come to mind.

    Elise had a good attitude for the hell they were putting her through. I gained more respect through the show for Elise than I first had for her. She kept it real.

    YES. I still can’t get over J.Lo basically saying people wanted to know that she was a person because she was starting to cry about her dog, or whatever the hell that critique was. (Obviously, I use the word “critique” very loosely.) She got some harsh (undeserved, in my opinion) feedback, and I don’t think letting disappointment show on your face counts as attitude.

    Ok…Phillip has only 1 (one) solo with a star??? Am I reading this right? While Jessica has 2 or 3? What’s up with this?

    It is because he is to sick to film the commercials.

    Yes, the producers want the “old” performers because they are cheaper, more available, and will satisfy the “old”viewers (which is the reason they have tended to have an “older era” or song themes paired with a more contemporary themes.)I But people who complain about older singers for me are a lot like the people who refuse to even listen to genres outside their own.

    I just want one of my favorite TV shows to appear at least somewhat relevant to the current music industry — the one they are sending their alums into to have a career in.  But this is old-time variety hour crap going on here and its super dated.  It seems to me the only people they’re attracting with this kind of finale are the people who have been stuck playing their old CDs for 20+ or 30+ years now and have no interest in hearing or buying current music (except perhaps their treasure trove of exclusively Idol music).   

    Honestly, it feels like Nigel quit looking for new music decades ago and is stuck thinking that this is the music people want to hear.  

    And yes, I’m over 40 and I heard these songs the first time, and if I want to hear them again, I’ll gladly go on their reunion/legacy tours.  Or go down the street and listen to the neighborhood cover band.  Otherwise, I have no interest in seeing these people on my TV.

    Coz he’s sick, that’s what! He was sitting down in a duet with a girl, for Christ’s sake! Girl should be sitting but coz he’s “sick”, he can get lazy and let them do all the work.
