UPDATE: Jermain’s twitter account has been deleted

UPDATE: Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Jermaine Jones, was in fact, disqualified. “Jones departure will pan out in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night’s broadcast.”

UPDATEJermaine Jones just tweeted, “Awww I will no longer b on the show” Maybe he’s kidding?

UPDATE: Jermaine deleted his tweet. Good thing I saved it!

Bringing Jermaine back to the show was a terrible idea. He didn’t have a chance in hell to win.

UPDATE from TMZ:  Apparently, the producers began looking into Jermaine’s background more closely when they discovered that he lied about his dad .

Jermaine Jones will be kicked off “American Idol” Wednesday night, after producers learned he concealed the fact that he was arrested twice last years and has outstanding warrants … TMZ has learned.

As we first reported, producers discovered Tuesday that Jermaine had lied about his criminal history and that triggered the decision to confront him on camera Tuesday afternoon.

We’re told one of the incidents involved violence, which was particularly troublesome to producers.  He also lied to cops by giving them fake names both times he was arrested.

“A.I.” sources tell us … Jermaine will appear on the show tomorrow night before he is sent packing.

Over the last few days, we’ve been reporting that Jermaine told producers his father abandoned him 10 years ago, but his dad called TMZ and called B.S. on his son, saying they see each other regularly.

Jermaine began tweeting that he never told producers about his dad abandoning him.  We’re told the producers — who knew Jermaine had made the statement — became generally suspicious and began looking more closely at his background, and that’s what led to the revelation of his criminal history.

OMFG. Are they serious? This was totally leaked on purpose to drum up buzz for this big “confrontation”. Why am I smelling a contrived reality show plot? The producers do thorough background checks on all of the contestants before they hit the air. Wouldn’t something on Jermaine have turned up in the meantime?

ETA: And the producers uncovered this info in a few hours today, despite Jermaine giving cops a fake name? The Idol producers are now suddenly super sleuths!

If Jermaine has outstanding warrants he could be headed for jail. That’s probably why he lied to producers.  A criminal past won’t keep a contestant off the show, but a criminal situation that is unresolved will.

Why confront them on camera? Just kick them off and let them go.

  • windmills

It’s sad to hear all the way around but can I just say this part:

We’re told the contestant was confronted with the information on camera today and the footage will air on Wednesday’s show.

is something I truly hope didn’t and doesn’t happen because it feels exploitative of a bad situation. If possible I’d like this handled in the lowest drama way possible.

  • Anonymous

Omggggggggggggggg who?! I think it’s a boy. Oh no no no… omg.

  • Anonymous

That whole “confronted on camera” thing sounds so skeezy and exploitive. Jeez, Idol. Just kick the person off.

  • Elliegrll

I agree.  That’s what they did to Corey Clark.  This reads like a press release, and confirms that someone at AI has been feeding TMZ stories, in an effort to drum up buzz.  I remember when the buzz that AI tried to get wasn’t of a negative nature, or about slamming the contestants.  This contestant might have done something wrong, but AI is also wrong for dealing with TMZ, and taking the focus off of the remaining top 11.  It will be so funny if TMZ is the only outlet that pays this any attention.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

This is definitely leaked on purpose and I agree it’s hard to believe that whatever the heck it is wouldn’t have come up in the thorough background checks that are done on these kids.  There’s no way IMO the producers are just finding out about whatever the heck it is. The last thing I want to see is one of these kids confronted on camera.  Ick.

Anyone play detective yet and see who hasn’t tweeted much today? That could be a good indication.

  • Garrett Clayman

i hope its a boy, i dont want to loose a girl this early on. im going to assume its shannon magrane, or maybe hollie cavanaugh. Could it be eben?
No in all seriousness I wouldnt be surprised if its Elise, great voice, terrible attitutude

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Well, it’s probably and boy and one that is over 18.  I’m guessing it’s Jermaine since they seem to be primed to throw him under the bus this week.

  • Anonymous

Geeeezz! Now what? Seems like Season 11 is all about drama! People fainting, crying, lying, rushed to the ER, and now concealed multiple crimes!! Do they really need ratings that bad? lol!!

  • Anonymous

They definitely leaked stuff to the press about Frenchie being disqualified, Corey being disqualified, and Mario quitting. To act like this is something new is nothing but revisionist history.

  • Anonymous

I honestly can’t think of anyone on the show right now that would have done this. They all seem so genuinely nice. :(

    + I agree, this is obviously a ratings ploy…

  • TwigLA

They’re going to show them confronting the contestant on camera? They’ve gone to a new all time low if that’s true. Is Ryan giving them a reality show after they get kicked off?

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

It’s been done before.  Season 1 there was that one dude who lied about his age and conceiled it.  Then there was that dude in Season 2 who had an active criminal case and lied about it.  Corey…????

Bye Jermaine.  I won’t miss him.

  • Anonymous

I understand Idols position and the contestant should be kicked off for concealing his crimes, but I do have a problem with them doing this on camera. No need  to humiliate the guy on camera, when it could easily be done with them simply making an announcement about this guy’s disqualification and not making it into a awkward moment for the watching audience. I have no desire to watch this.

  • Garrett Clayman

does that mean jeremy will be eliminated for a third time?

  • steph6449

    uh oh.

Gosh, how annoyed must David Leathers, Cowboy and what’s his face must be now…

Dealing with it this way could backfire on them bigtime.

My guess is Jermaine since they’ve been after him today already.

  • Stavros

If it was by any way Jessica Sanchez, Idol would plummet big time.  She’s pulling in a lot of viewers this season from all over the world.

  • Anonymous

There is a HUGE difference between leaking information to the press and humiliating someone on camera.

  • Anonymous

When I actually see that happen then maybe I will listen to your complaint. Until then it isn’t worth my time.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

So the real question is whether TPTB brought him back, knowing about his record, with the intent to kick him back off later on.   I’m not excusing whatever Jermaine’s crimes may be, but I still don’t want to watch it.

  • Anonymous

I can’t believe they are going to air the confrontation with this individual. They are desperate for ratings I guess. I find it amazing that practically all of the contestants are able to walk away from this show with their integrity intact. American Idol should learn from them.

  • Karen C

If this is true does that mean that another contestant won’t be eliminated this week?

  • Anonymous

The plot now thickens as to why they brought back Jermaine over David or Johnny.

So does this mean nobody else will get eliminated this week?

Airing it may not be AI’s idea.  Sure they confronted them on camera, but someone who would conceal crimes to get on this show JUST MIGHT want to “say goodbye”.  *eyeroll*

You kind of have to be a fame whore to go on any reality show – so it’s not unreasonable to imagine the contestant wants to apologize – or something – on air.

Should they let him/her?  Is there a precedent? I seem to remember them letting the contestant make a statement in the past..

Footage to be aired on Wed? Unnecessary..Too much exposure for Jermaine since the wildcard.
Oh please…can we just focus on the contestants singing for their spot in top11?

uuh, sooo the Gentle Giant may not be very uuuh gentle?

I don’t really know what to say right now.

  • Chris

Totally a ratings grab. I don’t know why they would wait until tomorrow.  It would make more sense, to just replace him with either Jeremy (that would be cruel, but at least they would have an even set) or bring back one of the other potential wild cards like Jen.

What a mess.  They should have just left him at home the first time and this would be over.

  • Valentin432

This is all a little too cynical for me.
Yes, they ask questions to the contestants but I don’t think they do thorough backup checks like you suggest MJ.
Contestants getting kicked off reality shows happen all the times for various reasons more or less suspicious because once your face is broadcasted to millions, stuff that you did previously tend to come out.

I do wonder what exactly they will do this week if there’s one contestant eliminated before the show begins.

  • escape

I doubt they will bring anybody back, since they the first person from the Top 13 has already been eliminated.  There probably just won’t be an elimination this week.

If it is Jermaine (which I suspect it is), yes the judges did bring him back initially but it was America that put him in the Top 10.

  • Anonymous

I have a feeling they will still eliminate someone, and then when they use the save they will only eliminate one person the following week.

  • Elliegrll

They definitely leaked stuff to the press about Frenchie being disqualified, Corey being disqualified, and Mario quitting. To act like this is something new is nothing but revisionist history.

Nope, it’s an opinion, just like your view is also an opinion, and nothing more.  We all also have our on perceptions of events, and how they unfolded.  From my memory, they didn’t spend a lot of time talking to the press about any of the people you mentioned.  Those people were gone, and none of their eliminations happened on camera.  They didn’t even clarify the situation about Frenchie, when she started going around saying that she was cut because she did porn, and left out the part about it being for a site that advertised itself as featuring girls under the age of 18.

I don’t remember AI grandstanding about Mario, Corey or Frenchie, and it didn’t seem like they had a hotline to TMZ either.  With Mario, they didn’t even go into the lawsuit, or his eventual signing.  Nobody knows what happened in that case.

  • Anonymous

But if he really used a false name then it might not have shown up. Also, with the stuff going on about his dad, maybe it made the producers dig a bit deeper and that was when it was discovered, or maybe even his dad ratted him out.

  • Latin2

I was thinking it was Hollie, and she was here as an Illegal Alien…now he ruined it.

  • Anonymous

When Corey Clark was DQ’d for a similar reason back in S2, nobody was eliminated that week.

  • Anonymous

Sorry you are remembering wrong, they leaked info before they said anything on the show about Corey, Mario, etc, and they also made Corey apologize on camera during results night.

  • Latin2

I bet that is what might happen…so everyone gets a free pass…well everyone except Jermaine.

  • Chris

Bringing back Jeremy seems mean.  Its like playing with a mouse you’re going to kill.

He can’t win so I think they should just leave him home.

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

While I’m sure it’s possible for things to slip through the cracks during background checks, I can’t imagine they don’t do some sort of background checks for at least the top 24.  Even if just for legal reasons.  Nowadays?  I feel like they have to.

  • Anonymous

To show footage of this, they obviously going for the ratings. On the other hand, it could also be that they want to discourage a similar situation in the future. Guess it’s a mixture.
    Jermaine, ..what a dumb ass

  • Latin2

He would just have to go home neXt week.

  • Anonymous

But if he really used a false name then it might not have shown up.

Quite possibly…but there is NO way Nigel didn’t leak this news. No way.

  • Anonymous

Is this why they brought him back …to create a scandal?   That’s kinda harsh, but if he knowingly concealed his past then he provided the ammunition.

So it will be a non-elimination round leading to a non-climatic results show?  Maybe they can have multiple guests?

  • http://www.facebook.com/amothershed Amanda Mothershed

They’ll probably not kick anyone of due to the situation at hand

  • Kylee

TMZ blows things way up, so I doubt the whole “camera” thing is actually happening.

  • Chris

“or maybe even his dad ratted him out.”
Actually, that’s a pretty good guess.  How else would they know about arrests where he didn’t use his real name except someone ratted him out.  They just said his dad was talking so I think we found our “source.

He’s father of the year material.

  • http://www.facebook.com/amothershed Amanda Mothershed

I’m pretty sure they will mention of it, but if they had any sense in their right minds that they would try their best to not humiliate him or the family on national television

  • Elliegrll

Should they let him/her?  Is there a precedent? I seem to remember them letting the contestant make a statement in the past.

The only ones who I remember getting face time after they were cut were the twins.  I can’t remember their names, but they were even brought back for the finale.

  • Anonymous

I don’t doubt that Nigel leaked this info, it seems to me like it happened within the last hour judging by Jermaine’s twitter, I just don’t buy right now any conspiracies that the show has known about this and it was planned all along.

  • Latin2

That just might be possible that the dad ratted him out.

  • Anonymous

Or…do you think they will bring someone back to replace him?  Maybe someone will get a chance to get back in now. One of the other wildcards, as someone else suggested maybe?

  • Latin2

Idol doesn’t want Jermaine to ruin this ratings surprise…it is gold, but too late the giant is out of the bag.

  • Elliegrll

Yes, they ask questions to the contestants but I don’t think they do thorough backup checks like you suggest MJ.

They do.  It’s why there’s usually a break between the end of Hollywood week, and when they announce the top 24.  I remember Kris telling a story about AI calling him, and telling him that there was a warrant out for his arrest because of an unpaid traffic ticket.   There is too much money at stake, so they aren’t going to let someone on the show who could mess that up.  I think after Corey Clark they became more thorough in their checks, but I guess someone could go unnoticed, if they gave police a fake name.

  • Latin2

I want to know what crimes he committed.

  • Anonymous

Maybe I’m a fool, but could reason for the leak to protect Idol, rather than to create drama?

I can’t remember the past disqualifications.

Corey was made to apologize on the results in basically the same situation. These are the only two times someone has been kicked off from the top 12.

I was really hoping that Idol would be above stooping to these lengths to get ratings (because honestly with the talent Idol is the best show), but I guess not.  Anywho, if you go by the rule of 3, next year will be Idol’s last anyways.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Wui-Zhuan-Lim/777616348 Wui Zhuan Lim

i still think elimination will go on this week.
Either they are going to bring the FINALE earlier…or they are going to add one episode to show the JOURNEY of AI11 contestants before the finale, just to fit the proposed schedule.

  • Latin2

Maybe someone was trying to steal his golden goose and he acted out.

  • http://twitter.com/jenifel Jenifel Baliday

Not really for the viewing public, they’ll still be surprised by this. The Idol web bubble only goes for 10% of the viewing public so…SURPRISE!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5IK3PM77MUXPFHZVNMHM3GIIMM Christina

their talking about it on the news on TV.

  • dishwalla

If there is no elimination this week, which I don’t think there will be.  What that means is that certain Idols are now a lock for the tour.  Only 1 more needs to go before the Top 10 tour.  So if there is a shock boot next week, depending on who it is, the judges can use the save like Casey last year at this point.  And they ended up with the Top 11 tour.  But it all depends on who the person is.  If it is not one of their favorites, they will be gone.

  • Anonymous

There really is no national clearinghouse for criminal background checks.  You do have to search every state individually (in most cases, each county in every state).  A typical background check will check all of the counties you’ve been known to live in (and that is typically based on your credit report).  So, if you’ve committed crimes in an area where you somewhat lived under the radar, it is possible to miss some things.

Also, we’ve all heard those stories about people being arrested because someone committed a crime using their name and how impossible it can be to clear it up.  Once the fake name got in those databases, it would be damn hard to get it out.

So, while I don’t know how likely it is that his previous crimes were missed, it is absolutely possible.

No doubt someone from the show leaked this info.  For any TV show, there will be an entire department of people for whom their only job is to create buzz for the show.  I would guess that a leak of this magnitude definitely had the okay of the highest executives at the show and Fox.  Otherwise, we’d hear about someone getting fired pretty soon :).

I’m a little taken aback that they’re going to actually air this.  First, AI is kind of a family show and it will make for a lot of uncomfortable conversations in many living rooms LOL.  Also, I cringe when I feel second hand embarrassment for someone on TV.  So, I don’t think I’ll personally enjoy it at all.

That said, what kind of dumb-ass with a criminal record goes on the biggest show on TV without disclosing it?  How could you possibly hope to get away with that?  So, while I think this will make me uncomfortable, I won’t be having much sympathy for the criminal (whoever that may be).

This is like Camilla Lackberg’s latest book The Gallows Bird where the producer on a reality show creates situations that hopefully will produce higher ratings – but then a contestant on the show is killed but the producer is even more gleeful at the sensation and thus the higher audience that will tune into the show.
Well this puts a damper on my enthusiasm for Jermaine. Well if he is hiding from the law going on AI isn’t exactly keeping a low profile. Maybe the judges can give him a redemption get out of jail card so he can stay on AI.

This is just a freaking distraction that idol doesn’t need imho, what good does this do?  I say if it’s true about gang activity, why keep him around at all.  Send his ass packing, and let Seacrest in his best investigative reporter voice narrate what happened behind the scenes.  That will probably be better tv than having this guy be a lamb to the slaughter.  If it’s something like they are reporting isn’t it dangerous to have him around?  This shit stinks all around.

This was all planned from the beginning and i bet Jermaine Jones knew this was going to happen, and was probably paid to go alone with it. Hence the reason the boys were the only ones given a chance for the first wildcard and that’s why he was picked over talented people like David Leathers Jr to come back for this stunt. This was a plot to gain ratings

The producers could pretend to be eliminating someone, and then announce a reprieve at the last minute.  Really, they could make the decision based on if the eliminated person is someone they want to see go or not. If they decide to eliminate, then they could do a “get of jail free” card later.

  • Anonymous

it doesn’t seem fair to bring another contestant in at this point. I think the best would be to bring back Jeremy if he wants to or use a save in the coming up weeks

  • Miss Chaos

Well color me shocked but not surprised.  I thought there was something skevy about the Gentle Giant, all that bawling when he was elimenated was really weird.  Then they bring him back, then this, I cant believe it.
I am sure Ryan will address what they will do about the voting, its kind not fair they dont vote someone off, but hey a free pass, thats ok with me, Jermaine would have been gone anyhow.  This is all so strange.
But bring on the drama, the more the better, I do want to know what he did tho, if it makes it worth being kicked off.  We will see tomorrow, and a lot to talk about it till then.

  • http://twitter.com/hobodeluxe Jim Shields

yeah MJ I have to agree with you. I thought something was odd when they brought him back and made the number uneven.  Especially considering the level of his talent.

  • http://twitter.com/hobodeluxe Jim Shields

yeah MJ I have to agree with you. I thought something was odd when they brought him back and made the number uneven.  Especially considering the level of his talent.

  • Latin2

So did they hand him over the police since Jermaine has warrants out for his arrest?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/JSP727NMTNZTGZOULUGOH6G3CI Beth Fischer

I for one thought Jermaine just felt odd being on IDOL. Never quite fit in and didnt seem sociable with other contestants… so if it i had to pick a contestant to loose it would be him (or Phillip cuz i dont want a guy to win).   Hope this doesnt screw up results… and yea, dont bring back Jeramy either.

  • Anonymous

After they use the save there is a double elimination. They could eliminate someone on Thursday and when they use the save only eliminate one person. Of course that would require them to use the save at some point.

  • sf3456

Wow.  This is worse than when they tried to get rid of Jacob last season.  And they did whatever they could on that one.

But filming the confrontation and then showing it — that’s really messed up.  That’s something they don’t have to do.  If it truly is Jermaine, they really want to embarrass him even though they’re the ones who brought him back.

Are we sure it’s not Phillip Phillips?  Or even Heejun?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5IK3PM77MUXPFHZVNMHM3GIIMM Christina

exactly. my mom just said the same thing.why only boys and not girls?

  • Latin2

Jermaine was one of the bottom 3 guys last week.

So this week the contestants have to step it up because Jermaine might’ve been the one to go even without being kicked off.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

Since Jermaine was my pick to leave the show this week — in the normal way — now my “bullseye” is on Shannon.

  • http://twitter.com/cheeseE1 EH

Idol’s promise of “dramatic” anything is usually not very dramatic.  If I were a fan of the “reality” side of Idol, I wouldn’t get too excited.

I think Jermaine’s departure will make it more likely that a girl will leave this week, probably Shannon, esp. if she messes up just that one note again like last week.

  • shell29

Wow, what a mess.  If Jermaine not only lied about his criminal record but actually has outstanding warrants and didn’t disclose that to the producers then that’s just plain dumb of him.  They were bound to find out about it sooner or later.  I didn’t initially agree with those who thought it was a waste to bring him back but now I have to.  What a waste of a spot in the Top 13.

I hope they don’t bring anyone back.  Just do a double elimination next week or something…I don’t know.

  • Anonymous

There’s a new update from TMZ I just updated the post. Like some of you speculated, When Idol producers learned Jermaine had lied about his Dad, they became suspicious and began digging deeper.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

mj, what gangreen meant, I think, is that when the judges use the judges save , the following week 2 contestants are eliminated. So if on a week after the judges save week, they only eliminated one contestant, that would make the count come out right for Finale week. Right? I am not good at Math at night!

  • Anonymous

So, the producers began “digging deeper” today, and despite Jermaine giving cops a fake name, they managed to uncover this stuff in a few hours?

  • http://twitter.com/AwesomeWillis Willis White

I’m on the side that this was planned from the get-go. Who knows if Jermaine was in on the plan or not, but this totally reads like a press release and a promo for Wednesday’s show.  Many already know they try and script Idol. Sometimes it goes according to script, and sometimes (Haley’s rise, Pia’s fall) it doesn’t. It really is all just a show. Anyone ever looked into the partnership of AI and TMZ, money wise? Are they tied together somehow?

They won’t replace Jermaine. Too late for that. The cordial thing to do would be to quickly explain that Jermaine was disqualified for not releasing prior personal information and move on. I’m pretty sure they won’t take that route.

  • Latin2

If the crime that did Jermaine did was assault I would hate to be on the receiving end of that

  • Anonymous

I really dislike the idea of airing the confrontation and hope they don’t.  I agree anyone who concealed a crime should be sent home but handle the situation with tact and class.  As someone who stopped watching the show last year, this does not increase my interest in watching at all.  The only thing that could get me to tune back in, is if there is a lot of talk about a contestant being interesting as well as a great singer.  Last week I heard people talk about Jessica being great so I watched a few videos here.  That’s the type of thing to get me interested, not embarrassing a contestant for people’s entertainment even if he or she committed a crime.

  • Anonymous

There was a somewhat similar situation on the UK X-Factor this year.  One contestant was eliminated for using illegal drugs during the season — and it was quite a media spectacle, with various judges being told about it during talk show interviews and such.

What X-Factor did was to allow viewers to vote to bring back a contestant that was ousted in what is essentially the semi-final round.  The viewers voted one week and the returning girl sang the following week, along with all the other contestants.  She finished pretty high, too — either third or second, I think.

  • http://twitter.com/blkeener Brittany Keener

Technically, we don’t even know if there is a save yet.

  • too-cool-for-school

Who is more annoying, Jermaine for lying about everything or Idol’s people already using it for their own dumb ‘DRAMA!!’ purposes and surely continuing to do so in the next two shows? I can’t decide.

  • Anonymous

Yeah exactly…the producers solved the “mystery” the cops didn’t?? And I can’t believe they don’t have extremely thorough background checks prior to appearing on the show. Funny how this happens on top 12 night and before any touring decisions are made. I totally smell a plant.

  • Anonymous

Are we sure it’s not Phillip Phillips?  Or Heejun?

Nope. Fox hasn’t confirmed, but it’s clearly Jermaine.

Big (Momma’s boy) Jermaine Jones will have his own Green Mile story lol

  • dishwalla

This seems a very likely scenario.  Despite what the judges say, there are those
who are more “dispensable” than others.  And there are those who are definitely TPTB’s
    favorites – for various reasons.

  • http://twitter.com/glitzyhearts_x Krista

i could maybe see him getting through this week again but there’s no way he would have won. honestly something always seemed “off” about him. how did this not come up in background checks though?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Bingo, MJ.  As one of the few Jermainiacs (what Jermaine fans are calling themselves) around, I’m calling foul.

They should have vetted out the top 44 after Vegas.  Even if Jermaine gave a fake name, a mediocre detective agency would have discovered a criminal past in between Vegas and the cut down to top 24.  And remember, Jermaine’s time was actually a little longer, since he was originally cut in the top 44.

The good thing about this…at least I don’t have to stay up until midnight tomorrow voting.

  • Anonymous

What X-Factor did was to allow viewers to vote to bring back a contestant that was ousted in what is essentially the semi-final round.

I remember this. Ugh I hope the producers don’t do that–but if they do, they DON’T bring back fodder.

  • http://twitter.com/DorkAngel Goboywonder

Anything for rating. I hate this show!  *eyeroll

  • itsalleternal

This is incredibly unfair for Jeremy and for those cut in the top 24 round – one of them would be in the finals if it weren’t for Nigel playing games. He needs to be FIRED immediately, and apologize to everyone else.

  • Anonymous

Question, is it CONFIRMED that someone is definitely going to be eliminated? I also wonder if they added Jermaine in the Semi-finalists JUST to have him “shock eliminated” later on? If it is, that would just be disrespectful for those who voted for him because all their votes were just for nothing, and especially for those who voted for the 6th highest vote getter on the boys which should have gotten the spot for the Finals. It would be interesting how would they handle the situation, but I agree that Idol don’t need this type of publicity just to get ratings, as it would just attract the detractors’ attention.

  • Elliegrll

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Jermaine Jones, was in fact, disqualified. “Jones departure will pan out in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night’s broadcast.”

Ugh, “dramatic fashion”, I think the producers have lost the plot.  They have no clue why people watch the show.  Since this is just scripted, they should have waited until Thursday’s show.  It would have been like a cliffhanger.

  • http://twitter.com/Ngarcia3 N

I believe the cops eventually found out that he gave a fake name and its public record. I dont believe that the producers figured this out on their own.

  • Listening

I thought they did back ground checks as well. It’s not the fact that he was arrested b/c wasn’t Stefano it’s the fact that  he has outstanding warrants.

How did they miss this for a top 13 pick I can see this info slipping through the cracks  when you’re looking at 100,000 people but the top 13 outstanding warrants should of been noticed. This isn’t the first time someone has been kicked off the show Frenchie was for being on an adult website. I don’t know why he even tried this w/ warrants their are sites out there devoted to finding dirt on Idols it was gonna come to light.

I just want to say that stare down Jermaine gave Ryan during the results a little foreshadowing huh.

So they made him delete his tweet b/c they want the big reveal on TV stay classy Idol. I don’t think they’ll go into detail on why he’s leaving probably just be a side note at the beginning of the show. Ryan will simply say “Jermaine is no longer with us b/c he didn’t follow the rules. Now on with the show” or he might say something like ” Jermaine is no longer with us b/c he has to deal with some legal issues. We all wish him the best.”

  • Latin2

I wonder how the other contestants are going to react?

Thanks for your support, zjzr.  :)  I felt sick most of Thursday for lack of sleep.  I have to get up at 5:30 AM.

I have a feeling Eben was the sixth highest vote getter.  Which is sad, because he’s from my neck of the woods (Cincinnati), and the FOX affiliate was all gung-ho for him.  They actually sent one of the news anchors to Hollywood for the semi-finals in hopes he made the top 13.

Oh well, I’ll get a good night sleep tomorrow.  But honestly..to paraphrase Shakesphere…There’s something rotten in the state of confusion.

  • Anonymous

It could be that when Jermaine’s father called TMZ to deny the abandonment story, he also tipped them off about his son’s legal troubles, and that’s how TPTB found out.

  • Anonymous

This whole thing is frecking nuts but very very entertaining I will be watching to see how it all plays out.

  • larc

Guess I would get accused of being overly cynical if I even suggested Idol could have found out about all this before they brought Jermaine back.  And then that they brought him back just for all the huge drama they could create.  Nah, I doubt even Nigel would stoop that low.  ;)

  • Elliegrll

She finished third.  I don’t think that people take the UK X Factor as seriously as they do AI, so there wasn’t a big outcry when Amelia Lilly returned, but people were a little uneasy at the prospect that she could win.  Even though it’s still early in the final round, I think that people would be upset if anyone other than Jeremy returned.  That would resemble the situation a few seasons back when Mario dropped out, and was replaced b Nikko Smith.

  • Anonymous

I wanted David back out of the 4 suggested guys. However, even if David was brought back, I don’t have faith that the public would have voted him into the top 13 or that the judges would have chosen him as a wildcard.

I think the judges & the producers are hoping he comes back next year which would help him get farther in the competition. This is turning out to be a talented female’s season IMO so I’m not sure if David would get very far against the talented females (Jessica & Hollie) & the popular guys (Phillip, Colton, Heejun).

  • Jenny Carvell

Does this mean they will bring jeremy back so they can stay on track with the show elimination process or will they just bump the finale up a week or will they just not have an elimination this thursday?

  • TwigLA

They definitely do background checks. They found a warrant for Kris Allen for an unpaid traffic ticket. That turned out to be a clerical error, but it came up in the check.

I find it improbable that this stuff didn’t come up for Jermaine.

  • shell29

I won’t make excuses for Jermaine-if he lied, he’s dead wrong for doing so.  But something about this whole situation and how it played out (from the producers’ side) stinks.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

Haha, bring back Jeremy so he can be the first candidate eliminated three times. Consecutives!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

I don’t think anyone is going to be eliminated this week.  Eliminate someone and you’ll have your Touring Ten.  In recent years, they also made a big deal about the Touring Ten.

Although I have a feeling we’re going to have a Touring 11 this year.  And if so, this will be a strong tour.  Not a weak link among the 11 remaining contestants.

  • Anonymous

The LAST thing the producers should do is bring anyone back. That would be a farce. Just go forward with the finalists who remain. Ehat is so difficult about that? They shouldn’t have brought Jermaine (or anyone else) back in the first place. The whole thing is so contrived…

  • Kylee

    Jermaine needs to stop re-tweeting.

Not only is it pretty stupid considering he deleted the initial tweet yet he is re-tweeting people basically saying he has been DQ’d but also… he has re-tweeted someone who implied that Colton also made mistakes in his past etc…

    That’s not cool, Jermaine.

  • Kirsten

Craggle (aka Corey Clark) got through their background checks in Season 2 and he had a court day the same day he was to film a performance shows. So, it’s not that great of a check.

Or perhaps it was a sealed Juvi record and dear old Dad spilled the beans?

Being arrested won’t get you booted off the show (Bo and Taylor had drug charges, Bucky got charged with some flim-flam of pretending to be his brother to help his brother not be arrested (his brother was driving when his license was suspended), Stefano had a DUI charger…there are probably a lot more (time for an Idol crime gallery on EW, MJ?).

I agree that we don’t need to see him confronted. I can watch some crappy cable show if I want to see that kind of stuff. But, I do wonder what they will do. I hope they don’t do what they did last time somebody got the boot and just tally up the votes for two weeks. They revealed who was the bottom 2 the first week, so their voters were very motivated and neither hit the seal the next week. Not fair.

They should just say that this year the save doesn’t result in a double elimination. I’d like that.

  • Anonymous

Well he took a space.  So why not bring back one of the wildcards, like Reed?  It will be boring if they perform when we already know who is going home.

  • Anonymous

So if this were any other contestant this year I would be super shocked. But no, it’s Jermaine. I’m just laughing at him.

  • shell29

Although I have a feeling we’re going to have a Touring 11 this year. And if so, this will be a strong tour. Not a weak link among the 11 remaining contestants.

Wasn’t it a Top 11 tour last year?  I don’t remember.  I like the idea of doing that this season.  Maybe have a double elimination next week but have Ryan announce that all 11 will tour.  I like that idea better than bringing someone back.

  • Kirsten

Matt Giraud was eliminated three times.

George Huff too! One could even argue it was four times, but it wasn’t consecutive.

George was eliminated in Hollywood, but somebody got arrested so he was re-instated for the semis. He was eliminated in the semis, but brought back for the WC. He didn’t win the fan vote, but he was Simon’s group pick. He was the original Huff victim and finished the season in 5th (just like Matt).

It’s not like he was gonna survive this wk anyways *rolls eyes*

If someone is using an alias and gets arrested and is served a bench warrant under the alias how would that show up when someone is doing a back-ground check on their legitimate name.  In order for AI or any investigator to find the criminal history under an alias they would have to have information connecting said contestant to that alias.  Considering what has gone in the last few days with the disinformation generated by Jermaine concerning his Father, I am sure AI has contacted people familiar with Jermaine and his history and one of them probably gave AI information concerning the alias Jermaine used…and then the criminal history was found where before AI probably wasn’t doing interviews with Jermaine’s associates just back-checking public records under his name. (Whee…long thought)

Personally I don’t think there is this big conspiracy going on.  I think Jermaine was initially brought back because Nigel and AI probably received a lot of emails and correspondence and phone calls when Jermaine was eliminated and AI did think it would be dramatic to bring him back….its a reality show, after all.  But all of these recent developments have occurred in a short time frame and now AI is having to deal with them.

I could care less if AI confronts him on camera or just lets him walk.  I’m not a drama freak so it doesn’t impact me one way or another…but a lot of people in viewing land eat this stuff up and they’ll love watching it play out on camera.  Many people are closet voyeurs and love watching this kind of OTT stuff.

I could be wrong but I heard the Craggle sitch resulted in Idol tightening up their vetting process.

I think they did too. I think that’s why we haven’t had another one of these for a while. But, no procedure is infallible. And he could have been a minor in which case, it would not have been revealed by a background check (though, I doubt they would be able to publicize it if he did have a sealed Juvi record no matter how they found out).

Don’t they fingerprint you when you get arrested? Wouldn’t they arrest you for violence? Wouldn’t the fingerprints sort out your aliases? Or have I watched too many episodes of CSI?

Maybe he used an alias to apply to Idol. Maybe he’s really a 35 year old dude from France with a really good forger for a friend (and no sense not to appear on TV with his fake ID).

I know I am in the minority but this makes me terribly sad. They exploited his meltdown when he was eliminated in Hollywood and used it to create this “feel good” moment when it was obvious that he was so not Idol material. His behavior on last weeks results night only highlighted his stunning lack of self awareness and his lack of connection to any of the other contestants. And yet I was rooting for him to make the tour because it would make such a difference for him financially and I really liked his voice. I saw on his Facebook page that he was quoting the AA serenity prayer last week so I wonder if alcoholism or drug abuse played a part in his criminal past. Sad, sad, sad.

I agree G/J ermaine didn’t have a chance to win.  But he was talented. Such a sad story.

JMHO,This story doesn’t add up, Idol would have to do background checks because every season has contestants that are minors.   Also, no matter what name he gave the police his fingerprints would be on file in a national database, you are fingerprinted when you get your driver’s license/state id card, open a bank account and when you are arrested you are fingerprinted and they run that through the database and the cops would find out his real name.   I’m not believing this story that they just found out, it doesn’t make sense.

  • Incipit

Yes, shell29, the situation from the Producer’s side makes them look either incompetent or conniving, and I’m not sure it’s possible to be too cynical about Idol, larc. FOX has yet to confirm? Likely working on the Spin, to get the most viewers aand Buzz out of this.  Going on Idol is like appearing on America’s Most Wanted – secrets don’t survive – but background checks are supposedly tight. Or not. It smells like fish from Denmark. (nod to Willy S)

    ” They
definitely do background checks. They found a warrant for Kris Allen
for an unpaid traffic ticket. That turned out to be a clerical error,
but it came up in the check.

I find it improbable that this stuff didn’t come up for Jermaine.”

TwigLA, Heh. The only way any of this ‘oversight’ makes sense is if Ken Warwick is in charge of background checks. IMO. Of Course.

  • http://twitter.com/alywelch Alexandra Welch

More so than all the other contestants people thought they were bringing back instead?  Most people did not think it would be him, or that it even should be.  It was pretty much met with a resounding “huh?  why?”  Had people thought his return was justified in the first place, they’d have less cause for suspicion now.

People would also be more willing to give them a pass if they handled it discreetly.  It may give them a brief ratings bump but it will hurt the show in the long run, and I’m thinking that’s for the best.

If nothing else, having their previous publicity stunt backfire is karmic payback for wasting our time with such obvious fodder.

They should have left well enough alone.

Seriously? I’ve never heard of having to be finger printed in the US to obtain a driver’s license. Does that really happen? It seems contrary to the 4th amendment. Maybe they can finger print you, but how they use that information must be restricted? Where I live, the courts wouldn’t allow the police to use driver license photos in facial recognition programs to find out who rioters were. Seems like the same sort of thing to me.

Well, they had to give Ken something to do…

I imagine they had him responsible for catering earlier in the season, but after all that barfing during Hollywood, he was removed from that job.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

They don’t fingerprint people for drivers licenses.

The small town newspaper close to me has the Jermaine story on the internet as the top story.

Getting fingerprinted for a driver’s license and state id card is the law in my state.  It’s a huge invasion of privacy, but the state officials who passed the law were trying to kiss up to a former governor who was very popular at the time.  People can refuse to be fingerprinted, but if they do they have to fill out some paper work stating why they don’t want to do it.

I’ve never been fingerprinted in my life and I had a drivers license and a bank account when I lived in the States. Unless things have changed drastically, I assume it’s the same.

Honestly, it’s not classless and cruel. The dude lied about a crime, possibly violent, in order to get on a reality television competition. Why the hell wouldn’t they confront him?! He thought he could @#$% around with the producers by lying, constantly, and creating a terrible situation for everyone involved. It’s only fair the producers get the confront the son of a @#$%. I’m all for it. Maybe some humiliation will show him that he needs to be honest in the future.

  • Anonymous

Darn. If only this had happened last week, I would have gotten 20 points in the pool. *sigh*…

Okay, I’m sorry to hear about Jermaine’s troubles, but… that’s what happens when you do bad things and then lie to cover them up?
Not going to miss him, to be honest.

As far as who should be brought back… I liked Jen Hirsch and Reed Grimm (does anyone else get a Jacob Hoggard vibe from him? No, not in style of music… but in performance… a bit?). And even though she wasn’t my favorite personality, I kind of liked Brielle.

If they were willing to go back to Hollywood, I’d love for Lauren Gray to come back… but I know that won’t happen. :(

He has outstanding warrants and tries to hide himself auditioning for the biggest show on America (second biggest, sorry)? Is he the most stupid person ever or we’re seeing another fake drama? I think we all know the answer.

the biggest show on America (second biggest, sorry)?

What’s the first biggest? It still has more viewers than the Voice.

Jermaine is clearly not operating with a full deck. It appears he went ahead with a plan without thinking it through to the end. Inevitably, it was going to come back to bite him in the butt.

How about this scenario:  When his dad went public, Jermaine realize that his Pandora’s box was opening up, so he went to the producers to ‘fess up and Nigel leaked it.

That would help shorten the investigation time.

Either way, Jermaine made a boneheaded move by hiding his past.

  • Anonymous

His entire twitter account seems to be deleted

  • Tera2

I don’t care for Jermaine or his singing and I didn’t want him brought back in the first place.  He seemed odd from the start, and he and his mom came off weird.  Now he made up lies about his dad to create sob story that idol likes.  And 2 arrests in a year isn’t good either.  I’ve hoped for him to be eliminated anyway and he should go. Also, idol producers probably knew of his record and only brought him back for to create this drama after the news is leaked.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

I’m confused. They had a Top 13 instead of a Top 12, and yet no double elimination last week. At some point, they’d need to get rid of 2 in order for it all to fit in with the schedule. Right?   Doesn’t Jermaine’s exit solve that problem? They’ll eliminate one this week as usual. There’s no need to bring anyone back. Of course, if they DO bring back someone like David or Eben, the conspiracy theorists will have their best, and yet most obvious, season ever!

  • Anonymous

During the S10 format (i.e. Sudden Death Semifinals), Top 5 girls and boys during that semis were chosen, while 3 are added by the judges as wildcards, which means it is part of the schedule. There was a double elimination after the semis during S8 because 4 wildcards were added instead of the pre-planned 3, so they need one (and another was need cause the Save was used during Top 7 week). So, with Jermaine eliminated, we have 1 week earlier in the schedule, and the remedy here is have a non-elim or in case of save only 1 would be eliminated the next week, so it would be interesting what would the option be.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us/ TFLS

God.  Is just getting on Television so important to some people that they will do literally anything?  This guy just wanted his 15 minutes – the how and why of it obviously didn’t matter.  And he got it….with a little help from AI producers.  ‘What the hell – numbers are off this season – so manipulate the hell out of participants lives to snag interest/ratings’.  And don’t tell me Jermaine wasn’t part and parcel.  Maybe not in the beginning….but if he’s letting this happen in a scripted way in front of the camera (and viewing public) – then he’s on board with how its playing out.

I really hate what Idol’s become.

  • http://twitter.com/Ngarcia3 N

I agree that Idol is trying to sink their teeth into anything they can. Like when Phillip was rushed to the hospital, I mean went to visit the doctor. Idol is working hard with tmz this season.

  • Anonymous

There’s no proof that it was idol who carried out all this. As of now it’s all wishful thinking that the producers could be so cruel. I will wait for confirmed facts instead of things people made up at the top of their heads.

  • hcpoirot

I have no doubt about it that the producer indeed know about Jermaine past. How hard could it be to check on someone, not to mention this is SEASON 11 and not season 1.

THis is porobably why they bring back Jermaine. Remember, we as viewers never vote Jermaine into top 25. The producer bring him back into top 25.

They already know it and plan to use this information if the rating fall. Nigel love to stir up controversy.

But did Idol really need this kind of negative press?

But maybe what press is better than no press at all?

  • sdmama

I think we can all agree that this was the worst save, EVER!
    Talk about the waste…

  • Anonymous

Spirit, you stated that people are finger printed when they get a driver’s license, bank account, etc. In what state does this happen? I’ve had  both for decades, and I’ve yet to be finger printed.

  • hcpoirot

1000% agree with you. The producers already know about Jermain arrest warrant. They deliberately pick him to top 25 (not to mention give him a pimp spot) just to put him in top 13. Then leaked the story to drum up the buzz.

NIgel, how low can you go? (TUrn out pretty pretty low)

  • Anonymous

That’s very interesting. I did not know that.

  • hcpoirot

And all of us booing Simon when he make a fake drama by eliminating and
put Melanie into top 16 in X Factor last year. hahahahaha

When frenchie got DQ for some of her trouble past in season 2 or 3 , I believe. That was so many years ago. I will not believe that the producer did not do any check up on Jermaine past at all in 2012.

The reason they bring him back in top 25 is because he got a crime warrant. remember that Vegas week was a done deal even when IDol 11 start playing.

They already know who is in top 24. Then the rating fall like crazy. So Nigel and co setup a plan to add Jermaine into top 25.

If you see the Vegas week, you never see the judges said they want to add one more person into top 25. ITs all only Ryan Seacrest voice that said they want to add one more singer.

Anda boy too when all of us pretty much agree the girls kick the man in the Vegas week by miles.

Why bring a boy back in top 25? Why Jermaine who clearly didnot had the best vocal? And why give him a pimp spot? Yep, you already know the answer.

  • hcpoirot

THis make me less and less want to watch Idol. They smear this competitions with all fake drama , boring judges and producer manipulation.

  • Anonymous

Well that’s one way to drum up ratings for a, heretofore, lackluster ratings season.

Oh Uncle Nigel, you never miss an opportunity or disappoint.

  • Anonymous

They never said why Jermaine came back.  I suspect they had disqualified him because of a susupicious past and then brought him back because the past was when he was a minor.  Then, after the father incident his father came forward himself and told the producers about the aliases.  Nothing else really makes sense.

  • Anonymous

They eliminate two after a save.  They didn’t eliminate two last year after top thirteen.  Only after Casey was saved did they eliminate two (naima and thia.)

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

This really stinks because in the long run, Jermaine took someone else’s spot in the TOP 25.  Unless they never really wanted a TOP 25.  Several people noted that no one was excited that Jermaine didn’t get sent home.  If we go back to him returning to the seats, no one hugged him first.  I think the contestants really liked Jeremy and were not pleased about the results.

I agree, it would have been very easy to look up his criminal past and current warrant.  This is a black eye for TPTB.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/4ND6Q5VHOIYVYIIRVU2B7ECPWY DianaL

I like his voice and think he would’ve gone further in the competition.  He seemed sweet at first but on the live shows his personality seems a bit ….aggressive maybe?  Just something not right with him.  Maybe people just didn’t want to deal with someone like that.

  • Anonymous

It’s a sad commentary of our judicial system, when anybody can give a fake name to the police, have outstanding warrants, then appear on national television. I guess you have to have your face on an America’s Most Wanted poster or get lost in the shuffle. Not to mention the audacity or stupidity of said criminal to parade themselves on the most popular show on television. I weep for the future.

  • Kylee

I’m not buying this “Idol knew this the whole time and are just leaking it for ratings” thing until there is real proof.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us/ TFLS

Well – it’s obviously true he’s being booted from the show.  And its true he has some kind of criminal record.  And he lied.  So – either he hoped he could pull a fast one and Idol producers wouldn’t catch on (kinda dumb, as every other person with a hinky background’s been exposed) – or the producers knew what was up (before or after the fact) and figured to use it if uncovered.  The only reasons that make sense to me are 1. Jermaine just wanted to get on TV (no matter how) and/or 2. The producers needed a ratings boost.  That saying of ‘any publicity being good’ unfortunately rings true.  People look at train wrecks.  People will tune in to see this guy exposed.

  • Anonymous

WOW…even Simon wouldn’t stoop this low to create some buzz for a show.  If the Idol crew had any class, they will issue a polite statement at the beginning of the show stating that for legal reasons, Jermanie has been disqualified and therefor will not be able to compete anymore, wish him luck, and move the f**k on.  There’s no need to make an ordeal out of the situation because no one will benefit from it.  Jermanie and his family will be humiliated on national tv, Idol will look cruel and class-less for having done that, and it will make everyone watching very uncomfortable

  • Anonymous

I have a problem with us even having to find out about this mess, much less on camera.  They are now moving very close to the XFactor  bullshit.  They could have removed him on elimination night and nobody would have said a word.  This is disgusting.

  • Anonymous

You can bet the farm that he isn’t the only contestant this season who has pulled a fast one.  TPTB want sob stories; but no lies.  They are just asking for lies by allowing all this drama.

  • Incipit

WhoDat2012 – they certainly are taking a large, illustrated page out of Cowell’s ‘Use the Tabloids for Buzz’ book. Tacky, no matter who does it, IMO.

In Season9, when Chris Golightly was DQ’ed from the Top24, he just sort of disappeared from the press photos, and was replaced by Tim Urban. Granted, since there has been one performance week with Jermaine, Idol could make a brief statement, but I could do without all this Drama Rama for buzz.

  • Kirsten

They could have removed him on elimination night and nobody would have said a word.

I guess it depends what he is supposed to have done. If it was certain types of violence, is it fair to force his roommate, fellow Idols (including several minors) and production team to interact with him? Perhaps there have already been incidents?

Maybe it isn’t manipulation and Idol did really mess up and let somebody they shouldn’t through the cracks. Of course, it’s Idol so it is probably manipulation and he probably just got in trouble for taking his Dad’s car for a drive without his permission and his violence consists of tripping and falling against somebody with a Princess complex.

  • http://twitter.com/BobbiNJ Bobbi

Why can’t this be handled the way Corey Clark was? I sincerely hope they don’t confront him on the show. That is not why I watch AI. I want to see singing…..not a segment from Cops.

  • Anonymous

Nigel and Idol and Co. are showing their desperation and willingness to famewhore w/the best of them if they exploit this situation on the show for ratings. And it’s all about their sinking rating, and using anything they can to boost them. Just an example, but Bo Bice had a couple arrests for COCAINE possession that he did disclose, but nary a peep of that started to leak out about him while in his run up to the finale w/Carrie until he secured a spot in the finale… he and his family were spared this hoohah and drama on screen, so why not just remove this guy from the show without resorting to these gutterball tabloid TV tactics…. TPTB have never had much class before, so why should we expect it now? I hope it backfires on them, and hastens their slow roll down the toilet, where they’re heading anyway.

  • GS61

My local Fox affiliate out of Philly, is reporting that according to the New Jersey State Police and the local police in Pine Hill, that Jermaine has no oustanding warrants and arrests on him. So unless these warrants are under an alias of his, something doesn’t add up with this story. Hmm?

  • shell29

This is porobably why they bring back Jermaine. Remember, we as viewers never vote Jermaine into top 25. The producer bring him back into top 25.

The viewers don’t vote anyone into the Top 24/25. The “judges” and producers choose the Top 24/25.

I share your cynicism about the situation though.  I want to see how this story plays out.  I’m not sure I believe that they purposely brought Jermaine back knowing that they’d eventually kick him off the show for “drama” purposes but I wouldn’t put it past Nigel & Co to do something like that.  Nigel has and can be a weasel at times.  No, I’m not expecting Idol to take the high road in this situation (although it would be nice if they did).

  • Anonymous

I’m not really sure why not taking Jermaine to task is the more moral high road that some of you think it is?

If someone lies about their past and cheats their way on to the show, I think they should me made to explain themselves. They had Corey do it, so to try and spin it as some new thing is just not true. And to those acting like it is not possible that the producers didn’t know, would you kindly explain how it is so easy to find out the warrants for Jermaine if he was using an alias? Are you all taking the producers to task because they can’t read minds?

  • Anonymous

Jermaine does not deserve any more airtime.  Focus on the kids that are still there.  Let them do their thing and make a statement at the end of the show that Jermaine won’t be back.  Lay off the theatrics.  It’s not going to win them any fans.  It will probably cause them to loose some.

  • Elliegrll

It makes you wonder how AI found out about the aliases.  Someone close to Jermaine, maybe his father, must have told them.

  • Anonymous

Idol is going cheesy again.  And it was maturing so well.

  • Tess

I am laughing out loud at all the moral indignation leveled at American Idol from a populace that hangs on every word from gossip rags about Lindsay Lohan, Mel Gibson, and any other celebrity that has found themselves in trouble with the law…these stories sell legitimate magazines and are the cause for numerous hits on web sites.  People love to see celebrities fail…and there are lots of people who will eat this latest story from AI like it was strawberries and cream.

I, for one, don’t think this was a “planned” incident from AI, but then I don’t waste my time trying to decide if conspiracies exist.  And however it is finally resolved and handled it will be history and out of most people’s minds 5 minutes after the announcement is made.  And I don’t think that AI is going to sucker in millions of people to watch tonight just because they may be dealing with this…the kind of people who “look” for sensationalism would rather we watching the Kardashians or Jersey Shores or any of the other hundred real “reality” shows being shown on cable.  This is just a blip on the radar.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_P46N6P5XPK22JVXDJJEENXGLVE marie

Where are the victims for these so call crimes. They did not recognize him, I’m sure someone would have recognize him and alert the authorities before this AI airing this drama.

  • jersey

That assumes that the victim watches American Idol and knows he’s even on the show and that the victim doesn’t have their own legal problems.

I think the most likely scenario is that this info slipped through the cracks and someone, possibly the father, gave idol the info yesterday and things spiraled from there.

As far has how they handle it on the show, I think Ryan should just say he’s gone and drop it. Given the success of exploitive shows, however, I think AI will try and milk the drama for all it’s worth.

  • Elliegrll

AI is grandstanding, if they show any footage of them confronting Jermaine. That would be a move tat has nothing to do with Jermaine, and everythbing to do with ratings.

Maybe people have read things like this, and that’s why it’s hard to believe that AI missed this

    from Shirley Halperin:

Lastly, what are the chances that Idol’s producers, team of background checkers and lawyers would miss two arrests, possibly as-yet-unresolved? As we’ve heard about the process from insiders and former contestants, it’s not only an incredibly long procedure, but one that has been described certainly as thorough and often as “invasive.” All potential contestants are warned that if they do not divulge everything, they will be disqualified.

Maybe they were lax this year, or it could be that they never intended for Jermaine to make the top 24.  But it just seems odd that the guy that they didn’t vet is the same one who was suddenly and inexplicably invited back at the last minute.  Maybe that is just bad luck.

  • Anonymous

I agree in a way. Idol has had people disqualified in the past.  But I think the reason it always makes news is because Idol represents wholesome middle America. So they play it up because supposedly that audience is agasp as Mel G. Lindsey Lohan, etc.  The only way this surprised me is that they didn’t take the time to vet out their top 12 or so.  I mean come on! This has happened almost every season.

I’m beginning to think that Jermaine did a decent job of covering his tracks. I fully expected to wake up this morning and see the laundry list of crimes he is accused of committing. There are a lot of articles on the subject (from TMZ to MSNBC), but no details about what he was supposed to have done. If it were easy to find out, surely the muck-rackers out there would have the scoop by now. Perhaps he was successful in the use of his alias and somebody (probably dear old dad), ratted him out.

Boycott tonight’s show! I’m from Canada and I don’t understand how this can make Fox news – since when does a news program follow the antics of a reality show. I never read tabloids, I hate the direction that news media has taken over the years, and this reminds me of how sad reality tv shows are. Where are the days of Ed Sullivan where you could tune in and watch entertainment and judge for yourself whether you were entertained or not.

I thought AI did thorough backgroud checks on these kids too mj but remember the Brittnam twins?  They had a rap sheet too.  ;)  Still, you would think this would have come out before now.

ETA: Very wise of you mj to save that tweet. :)

I’m honestly more annoyed at Idol for last week’s tired Whitney/Stevie theme than I am about this whole thing.  I’ll just do what I always do with tabloid type stuff – ignore it.

They will probably do the “dramatic confrontation” at the top of the show. Viewers who just care about singing can just tune in at 8:10 or so. I don’t think they’re going to be showing images of Jermaine in handcuffs on the big screen while Hee Jun sings his Michael Bolton song or whatever. People will forget about him by Thursday.

are. They are all over the place, Yahoo pages, MSN you name it. I just find the
whole situation odd.  If the crimes have
been reported I’m sure the victim would want him prosecuted and, therefore, is
not hiding behind their own legal issues.  I’m not defending Jermaine, if he committed a

America still voted him in. It’s sad he took the place of someone who will never have another chance since by idol rules that the top 24 cannot try out again– a rule that should be changed

  • Tess

If you have 24 and knock it down to 13 and then let the other 11 try out again the next year….well taking that to its illogical conclusion you could very well have the same kids in the top 24 year after year.  A 15 year old would have some dozen chances to make it into the top 10.  And America does, sometimes, have long memories so once someone is on their TV screens and gets all the TV time from Hollywood, Vegas, and the semis…well the next year if they show up again in the voting rounds they have a distinct advantage.  The line needs to be drawn somewhere.

More of Nigel’s manipulations for ratings?.  I can not think of one reason that Jermaine would show up for Wednesday’s show to have all that drama happen to him.

I didn’t read it that Jermaine would show up to be confronted but rather they already confronted him, video camera in tow and will air that confrontation tonight most likely before the first contestant sings.

Not sure why people take issue with Shirley, she’s basically calling BS on the idea that Idol wouldn’t have found this information long before now.  We’ve heard repeatedly from former contestants what a long and arduous process it is to even get in front of the judges and now we’re to believe that since LAST SUMMER they didn’t do extensive background checks on these contestants?  A simple Accurint search would reveal any aliases being used by the contestants (the program we use at my law firm to do background checks on people) as well as any other information such as licenses, gun permits, etc.

To me this is Idols way of trying to grab some attention and ratings because they feel threatened by what they perceive as competition from The Voice and that’s just sad, grim and pathetic.

To me this is Idols way of trying to grab some attention and ratings because they feel threatened by what they perceive as competition from The Voice and that’s just sad, grim and pathetic.

    it is a ratings ploy.

I’m sure by now this has been said before (just as I’m sure there are people who will disagree), but . . .

. . . waking up to hear on the news that Jermaine was confronted on camera and booted AND that the confrontation would air tonight has left me with a bad taste in my mouth (and no, not just because I just woke up).

Yes, Jermaine may have lied and covered up . . . but that doesn’t make airing it any less exploitative.

Jermaine is going to face the music.  He was always going to face the music.  You can’t outright your past that fast.  But airing the confrontation is only going to hurt the friends, family, & fans of Jermaine (yes, believe it or not, he does have some fans), while p*ssing off the fans of those whose spot he took.  Idol is supposed to investigate contestants, so it’s on AI, and AI looks like an idiot.

I am going to reserve judgment on idols handling of this until they handle it.  So far we have TMZ, Shirley Halperin and an odd tweet from Jermaine.  It’s fun to read all of the excoriations of idol, Jermaine, Nigel, etc, but until something concrete actually happens what do we know?  Jermaine committed a crime or two, sometime in 2011, he hid it, got caught.  For all we know the crime could have taken place between between auditions and the end of last year.  It’s easy to conceal using an alias, so anything else is speculation….carry on.

Nigel doesn’t know what class and tact are.  He just knows  ratings.  I believe that he would sell his mother in order to get the ratings up and that is exactly what is ruining this show.  If he believes that he has a fantastic show this year, why does he think he has to overshadow his competitors with this garbage.  I just shake my head.  Thank goodness for The Voice.

I agree. Too much pearl clutching over nothing yet. I want to see what actually happens before I bother being outraged LOL.

I’m not falling for Nigel’s overblown, hyperbolic drama.  How often has he leaked something (from Crystal’s meltdown, mulitiple hosipitalizations) and have it result in a bunch of nothing.

I’m not saying Jermaine is not disqualified or has outstanding warrants, but this “confrontation” will probably end up much-ado-about-nothing.

Not by all ; ) Some Lee fans have stopped watching the show this year because of what Nigel did to him at last year’s finale. Yep, they remember both Lee and the snub very well.

too late they already are as trashy.  Nigel would do anything for ratings.

I’m not even a big fan of Lee’s but he didn’t deserve Nigel’s snub of him.  They are treating him as badly as they treat Taylor.  Lee and Taylor were fantastic to the producer of Idol when they were bringing in ratings but once they didn’t sell then Idol felt they could treat them with contempt

i feel a little bad for him, though, no one should have to pay for their past with their future, there are other shows he could try for, i thought agt would be perfect for him

the sad thing about all of this is that he’s gonna look back on this realise that he pissed away a great opportunity, i’d give my wisdom tooth to have that opportunity

he he he.  I confess, I’m a sucker for the drama.  Especially since it is someone I didn’t care for anyway.  Good TV tonight hopefully.

I feel bad for his mom, I hope that Idol won’t embarrassed him too much on camera.
