UPDATE: Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Jermaine Jones, was in fact, disqualified. “Jones departure will pan out in dramatic fashion on Wednesday night’s broadcast.”

UPDATE: Jermaine Jones just tweeted, “Awww I will no longer b on the show” Maybe he’s kidding?

Bringing Jermaine back to the show was a terrible idea. He didn’t have a chance in hell to win.

UPDATE from TMZ:  Apparently, the producers began looking into Jermaine’s background more closely when they discovered that he lied about his dad .

Jermaine Jones will be kicked off “American Idol” Wednesday night, after producers learned he concealed the fact that he was arrested twice last years and has outstanding warrants … TMZ has learned.

As we first reported, producers discovered Tuesday that Jermaine had lied about his criminal history and that triggered the decision to confront him on camera Tuesday afternoon.

We’re told one of the incidents involved violence, which was particularly troublesome to producers.  He also lied to cops by giving them fake names both times he was arrested.

“A.I.” sources tell us … Jermaine will appear on the show tomorrow night before he is sent packing.

Over the last few days, we’ve been reporting that Jermaine told producers his father abandoned him 10 years ago, but his dad called TMZ and called B.S. on his son, saying they see each other regularly.

Jermaine began tweeting that he never told producers about his dad abandoning him.  We’re told the producers — who knew Jermaine had made the statement — became generally suspicious and began looking more closely at his background, and that’s what led to the revelation of his criminal history.

OMFG. Are they serious? This was totally leaked on purpose to drum up buzz for this big “confrontation”. Why am I smelling a contrived reality show plot? The producers do thorough background checks on all of the contestants before they hit the air. Wouldn’t something on Jermaine have turned up in the meantime?

ETA: And the producers uncovered this info in a few hours today, despite Jermaine giving cops a fake name? The Idol producers are now suddenly super sleuths!

If Jermaine has outstanding warrants he could be headed for jail. That’s probably why he lied to producers.  A criminal past won’t keep a contestant off the show, but a criminal situation that is unresolved will.

    If I were a former Idol contestant there is no way I would agree to come back and perform this year.  Not after what it’s become.

    Yeah that’s awkward that he would appear on the show– my guess is that they just dhow the video but when did this show become cops? Anyways I dont believe this is a ratings ploy. America still voted him in. It’s sad he took the place of someone who will never have another chance since by idol rules that the top 24 cannot try out again– a rule that should be changed

    If you have 24 and knock it down to 13 and then let the other 11 try out again the next year….well taking that to its illogical conclusion you could very well have the same kids in the top 24 year after year.  A 15 year old would have some dozen chances to make it into the top 10.  And America does, sometimes, have long memories so once someone is on their TV screens and gets all the TV time from Hollywood, Vegas, and the semis…well the next year if they show up again in the voting rounds they have a distinct advantage.  The line needs to be drawn somewhere.

    More of Nigel’s manipulations for ratings?.  I can not think of one reason that Jermaine would show up for Wednesday’s show to have all that drama happen to him.

    I didn’t read it that Jermaine would show up to be confronted but rather they already confronted him, video camera in tow and will air that confrontation tonight most likely before the first contestant sings. 

    Not sure why people take issue with Shirley, she’s basically calling BS on the idea that Idol wouldn’t have found this information long before now.  We’ve heard repeatedly from former contestants what a long and arduous process it is to even get in front of the judges and now we’re to believe that since LAST SUMMER they didn’t do extensive background checks on these contestants?  A simple Accurint search would reveal any aliases being used by the contestants (the program we use at my law firm to do background checks on people) as well as any other information such as licenses, gun permits, etc. 

    To me this is Idols way of trying to grab some attention and ratings because they feel threatened by what they perceive as competition from The Voice and that’s just sad, grim and pathetic.

    I’m sure by now this has been said before (just as I’m sure there are people who will disagree), but . . .

    . . . waking up to hear on the news that Jermaine was confronted on camera and booted AND that the confrontation would air tonight has left me with a bad taste in my mouth (and no, not just because I just woke up).

    Yes, Jermaine may have lied and covered up . . . but that doesn’t make airing it any less exploitative.

    Jermaine is going to face the music.  He was always going to face the music.  You can’t outright your past that fast.  But airing the confrontation is only going to hurt the friends, family, & fans of Jermaine (yes, believe it or not, he does have some fans), while p*ssing off the fans of those whose spot he took.  Idol is supposed to investigate contestants, so it’s on AI, and AI looks like an idiot.

    I am going to reserve judgment on idols handling of this until they handle it.  So far we have TMZ, Shirley Halperin and an odd tweet from Jermaine.  It’s fun to read all of the excoriations of idol, Jermaine, Nigel, etc, but until something concrete actually happens what do we know?  Jermaine committed a crime or two, sometime in 2011, he hid it, got caught.  For all we know the crime could have taken place between between auditions and the end of last year.  It’s easy to conceal using an alias, so anything else is speculation….carry on.

    Nigel doesn’t know what class and tact are.  He just knows  ratings.  I believe that he would sell his mother in order to get the ratings up and that is exactly what is ruining this show.  If he believes that he has a fantastic show this year, why does he think he has to overshadow his competitors with this garbage.  I just shake my head.  Thank goodness for The Voice.

    I’m not falling for Nigel’s overblown, hyperbolic drama.  How often has he leaked something (from Crystal’s meltdown, mulitiple hosipitalizations) and have it result in a bunch of nothing.

    I’m not saying Jermaine is not disqualified or has outstanding warrants, but this “confrontation” will probably end up much-ado-about-nothing.

    Not by all ; ) Some Lee fans have stopped watching the show this year because of what Nigel did to him at last year’s finale. Yep, they remember both Lee and the snub very well.

    I’m not even a big fan of Lee’s but he didn’t deserve Nigel’s snub of him.  They are treating him as badly as they treat Taylor.  Lee and Taylor were fantastic to the producer of Idol when they were bringing in ratings but once they didn’t sell then Idol felt they could treat them with contempt

    the sad thing about all of this is that he’s gonna look back on this realise that he pissed away a great opportunity, i’d give my wisdom tooth to have that opportunity
