The American Idol 11 will take on the songs of Billy Joel tonight, with the help of P. Diddy as guest mentor. We’ve been speculating what the Top 10 might sing. But what will they sing?  Here are some of the finalists thoughts on this week’s theme, and more.  I’ll update with more spoilers as they arrive.

Nigel Lythgoe tweets, “Wow we have a real problem with our “Wall” and this has got to be the longest dress run in the history of #AmericanIdol.”

Fox executive, The Masked Scheduler tweets, “Erica Van Pelt is gonna look a little different tonight on #AmericanIdol Should generate some interesting tweets.” – Speculation is that she colored her hair brunette/black like some folks in the Idol world have suggested.

Colton Dixon tells Zap2it: “”It’s going to be a big week for me. If I do the song right, it could be my moment while I’ve been on ‘American Idol.’ So I’m really, really excited about it.””

Colton Dixon tweets, “Hour away from starting the show!  All I’m gonna say is I wish I could keep the piano from tonight…”

Top 10 Idols talk Billy Joel to Zap2it

Phillip Phillips had heard of Billy Joel (thankfully), but he found it extremely difficult to choose a song to perform. “I’d listened to some of his songs, but I didn’t really know him. He’s an amazing musician, and it’s very strange music for me. Not in a bad way, in a good way. I finally came out with something great. He has very good progression with chords and stuff, and it was very different.” The finished product, Phillips assures us, will be his own spin on a Joel classic.

For Hollie Cavanagh, song choice was also difficult since she wasn’t too familiar with Joel’s music. “I mean, I kenw of him, but I wasn’t like ‘Oh I know this song, Ooh, I can kill that song.’ I was like ‘Ohhh, crap.’ I was back and forth on a few songs, but I think I picked a really good one so I’m so excited.”

Jessica Sanchez isn’t so sure about her song. “My song isn’t the best song, I’m just warning you right now. Billy Joel is really challenging — it’s more challenging than it was last week because I was not familiar with Billy Joel at all. Picking a song and leadning a song was difficult. I’d never heard the songs.”

Heejun Han tells EOnline: “Heejun teases that viewers should definitely expect something crazy to happen during his performance tonight…possibly something fine-worthy! “I made the tour, I made the top 10. Let’s just do crazy things every week. It’s going to be amazingly crazy,” he tells us. “They might have to pay a good couple thousand bucks for fines for me.” Heejun’s roommate Phillip Phillips adds, “He has something up his sleeve that he hasn’t told too many people about. It’s going to be interesting.”
