Today’s featured American Idol 10 Top 40 contestant was featured in clips Nigel Lythgoe brought with him to his recent interview on The View. Could a teen male country music singer go all the way on Idol this year?

Gangreen29 spotlights the teen twanger below.

Scott McCreery – Featured on the clip Nigel showed on The View. A judges favorite. Has a very deep, soulful voice. He is reminiscent of Josh Turner.

A teen male country singer could be exactly the type of star that idol has been looking for.

BootStar: There are always exceptions, and with Idol behind him, Scotty could be one. But we’re a LONG way from his winning the whole shebang — he hasn’t even made it to the finals yet! :-)

Couldn’t agree more! All I know is I like this guy’s voice though not as much as I like Josh Turner’s voice. Can he prove he brings something new not just to AI but to country music? I hope so! But I think he’ll have a tough path. It’s way too soon to crown him the winner or write him off as unmarketable. There’s some singing and pimping/depimping still to be done ;)

But I’m pretty happy we’re already having an impassioned argument about a s10 contestant. Bodes well for the season ;)

With a predilection for baritone and dramatic tenor male voices, and a real aversion to the lyric tenor and counter tenor sounds, I like this guy’s voice, a lot. He can learn much about how to use it to better effect. But, I. do. not. like. country. At all.

I’ll bow to the knowledge of people who do – insofar as post Idol chances for success, if he should place anywhere in the Top10 – and hope TPTB cast other people with a choice of genres that does appeal, and older than 15-18. Life experience and seasoning do make a difference, IMO. These youngsters have little to say that has any relevance to me…I’m not a potential buyer.

Unfortunately I don’t like country music but do like some of the smoother sounding cross over hits and voices. I don’t think it will be so much his age but more the type of sound he does on idol that will determine if he will be able to connect with those who do not like this type of country sound. For me this was hard to listen to although I know a lot of people here really enjoy it (nothing against him I’m sure he’s talenented just not my type of music at all). Someone mentioned Aaron and I think the main difference is Aaron had a country leaning sound where this is more hard core country.

And where is Blaine Larson now. nowhere.

Geez, why so pessemistic? He is actually about to release an album soon and he had 2 songs chart this year. Scotty WILL be successful if he wins-I’m sure most people will look past his age and buy his music if it is good. I have showed my parents and grandparents videos of him and they all said they think he will be successful and they would buy his music. In the end, his age won’t matter. People probably doubted a teen country star before Tanya Tucker, and doubted another would come around until we saw LeAnn Rimes, and then Taylor Swift. Now that Taylor is 21, we need someone, regardless of gender, to be that “token teen” in country music.

I’m afraid he sounds like a lot of other country singers. And I thought Nigel wasn’t allowing singers to use instruments this year?

I’m afraid he sounds like a lot of other country singers.

Lee sounded like a lot of other “rock” singers and he still won. Same with Kris and Cook. Jordin sounded like a lot of “R&B” singers. Carrie reminds me of Martina McBride. I think he is pretty unique in todays country world.

Scott is the best of the high number of male teens reportedly in the Top 40.

I’ve only seen a few, but there really doesn’t seem to be much competition against him so far. Jorge Gabriel is alright but not a standout, Alex Ryan is alright, and Brett Loewenstern…. Let’s just say that if he has a spotlight in any spoilers posts I’ll probably write a gigantic horrible essay.

First of all if they do allow guitars his weak guitar play would only hurt him…I think he is a one trick pony who lacks the range to win idol. I think he will sound the same every week and get old quick…

I have been watching these guys, Maybe Randy is right…Thia is the best I have heard in the spoilers. She has the wow factor.
