Today’s featured American Idol Top 40 hopeful is a familiar face if you’ve been paying attention so far. She’s one of the young ones and you can watch her do her thing at various ages after the jump. after so many years on “the circuit” she appears to have that well-practiced I-can-behave-like-an-adult vibe down pat.

Gangreen29 featured Thia Megia early on with some other 15 year olds. Thia was also prominently featured in a Filipino promo for American Idol. With Nigel & company pimping so many teenagers, Thia seems to be one of their favorites.

    She’s got a lot going for her: nice smile, nice looking, she’s “ethnic” (think Demi Lovato), she’s a growing talent, and best of all, she’s got connection with some of the biggies in the business.

    She does follow in the footsteps of the big-voiced “divas” from the 80′s. She reminds me of Charice 2.0, but I don’t think that she’s as good. No wonder David Foster is interested in her. It will be interesting to see how far she gets.

    She is a good vocalist but performance wise she’s too pageanty for Idol.
    Needs to break out of her shell and try different things than big ballads with a bunch of high notes.
    Could be a surprise early boot.

    I just caught up with the Milwaukee auditions last night, so she’s fresh in my mind. Yeah, I was not very impressed with her in the audition, I have to say. The tone of her voice was not very interesting or particularly appealing, but she had “energy” (which seems to be much of what the youngster bring to the show). But I definitely saw way better older people who should get picked above her, so hopefully she’ll be cut at top 20.
