Gangreen29 brings us a new rumored Top 40 contestant, courtesy of JoesPlaceBlog.

Today’s hopeful is a 26 year old southern white guy who sings and plays piano! Uh oh…

***

Tim Halperin – Tim could be a threat if the producers are hoping to avoid the 5th white male winner in the last 6 seasons. He plays the piano, he is cute in a harmless, not threatening way, and he has a nice voice. Could this be our season 10 winner?

Video after the JUMP…

I’m still waiting from someone from s10 to blow me away. Between the first 2 audition episodes and all these spoilers, all I see is a bunch of moderately talented, moderately pleasant contestants — not one of whom strikes me as a future star. I know it’s early in the game, but I’m really not impressed with the level of talent to this point. hopefully as S10 moves along, at least a couple of people will step up and make some sort of lasting impression on me.

  • Valentin432

But right now, he’s pretty comparable to a certain Tim who was on last season

Yes, that was my first impression too, then I saw that some people got really excited about him (a la Ben H. from last year) and I started to wonder if we’re not already doomed.

I think it is a bad idea to write someone off from pre show youtube videos, but I know I do it too. For example, when I posted Brett’s video’s people thought he was awful, but they were more impressed with him seeing him on the show. I remember seeing Allison’s preidol stuff, and even her first audition where she cracks on the notes and thinking she was awful.

Thanks…that’s sort of a cute, deliberately cheesy DIY video. too bad he sounds flat throughout the entire song.

ETA – I’m not writing anyone off. I’m just saying that no one has made any impression on me yet. In most seasons, someone has jumped up and grabbed my attention from the very first time I saw them — and that hasn’t happened yet. maybe it’ll happen in these next few audition shows. or maybe someone will be a slow burner and grow on me as the show progresses. or maybe s10 will be a total bust for me. Way too early to say for sure. But I can’t say I’m overly optimistic based solely on what I’ve seen so far. JMHO…YMMV

ITA! In past seasons I usually pay attention during the top12, skip the audition episodes and totally ignore the preIdol vids and spoilers. What I’m mostly getting from these vids are a sense of personality, confidence, stage presence and sense of humor. Usually the vids don’t do the vocalist justice. I do like to see they type of contestants they are putting through.

BTW – Gangreen29 do you know if anything came of the You Tube auditions? I haven’t heard anything about these since they announced the deadline.

ETA: Thanks for your answer Gangreen

All I know about the Myspace auditions is that those who made it past the producers were thrown in with the Los Angeles auditions. Some did make it to Hollywood. It isn’t known if any of the top 40 were myspace auditions, but I do know that there aren’t a lot of LA people in the top 40.

By the way, the most top 40 people and the supposed best audition sites were Milwaukee and Nashville.

It seems like I remember, back before Taylor won, that the show peeps wondered if they ever get a white guy winner. I guess they didn’t need to worry. But then, white guys are not exactly a repressed, under represented minority in most areas of American life.

Maybe if idol could find a way to interest the white guy music fans. We’d still mostly get white guy winners, but maybe some with some edge and bite to their music.

He seems more like a “Tim Urban in 5 years” than a Kris or Lee, don’t know why.

  • jumpstart

No … just NO. Next, please?!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Meh pianist. Cute, meh voice, Tim Urban 2.0. If he makes it to the voting round, he will last a long time. So far, nobody has really impressed me this year.

If you’re talking about the gay ones, show’s probably doing OK already. Talking about the straight ones… not likely, given the way the show’s worked for a long time. It’s just not going to turn around that dramatically and pander to that audience. (Don’t even know how to get that audience turned into a singing show per se)

    I like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja17vdJ4hUw&feature=related

I like some of the others I’ve seen this season but I think Tim is a pop singer first and foremost. Isn’t that what the PTB are looking for?

    Found another video

I kind of like him, this song really reminds me more of Billy Joel. Definately a singer songwriter type.

It’s interesting though, that this video aired on a local Fox affiliate, and it was last October, so that would have been after auditions for last year.

If the rumor is true that Tim is in the top 40, then I am SUPER excited! I’ve been friends with Tim on facebook for about six months now, and I am subscribed to his YouTube channel. I’ve talked with him through Twitter a couple times, and he comes across as a really nice, genuine guy. He’s good friends with the guys of Green River Ordinance who toured with Kris Allen over the summer. As for personality, he definitely has a sense of humor. He at one time posted a video on YouTube of his “Wendy’s Hamburger Song,” which he actually performed inside a Wendy’s restaurant. My sister and I laugh about that one a lot.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja17vdJ4hUw –> live performance of his song called “The Last Song”

His age is listed incorrectly, though. It says 23 on his YouTube channel http://youtube.com/tshalps

I don’t usually post comments on here unless I’m really passionate about something, so I guess you know how I feel about Tim Halperin! ;)

Since the list on JP came out, this is the guy I’ve been waiting for! I really like him. Usually I’m more into the rocker type, but I do like him. I looked up his videos on Youtube and I was pretty impressed. I hope we get to see him this week. So much for not watching Idol this year. I have a few favorites all ready.

    he’s kinda cute :)

  • Ratna12

PLEASE don’t lump this guy in with Kris — Kris is way way WAY better (at least going off these videos).

Absolutely agree, Kris is mesmerizing whatever instruments he plays or none at all.
But, I’m afraid that the TPTB and media will always lump singer songwriter type, white guys with the last 2 idol winners. “Unfortunately” with Kris, he plays both the piano and guitar, so Kris got everybody covered.

It’s only been 2 idol auditions, so it’s still a long way to go.
I’m interested in Milwaukee auditions since I’ve heard soooo much good things about it.
So, if tomorrow is not that impressive to me, then it will be a long idol show for me.

  • revolution

I hate to say it, but this guy has a huge fanbase already…120,000 views on one of his videos.

    Here is another…autotuned pop…look out…

There is no way he’ll win idol. If he does, the show is dead, and TPTB won’t let it happen. Nigel has his faults, but Ken Warwick made huge mistakes in his handling of the last two seasons, and hopefully, talent won’t be sparse or unsupported this year.

  • Dakota01

    nvm

  • karenc

The thing is I hope that someone isn’t eliminated because they’ve had too many of the same type if they are truly one of the best in the competition. It’s more than just a contestant being on the show, they have to be well liked by a portion of fans in order to be a winner.

  • phil25

I like Kris…and I also like this guy. I like this style of music, so what? Is that bad? I’m sorry that my taste doesn’t match the current pop charts.

  • Diana

Reminds me of Ben Folds. Definitely my style, but not necessarily what Idol wants.

He could be successful without the show…
