Gangreen29 brings us yet another new rumored Top 40 contestant, courtesy of JoesPlaceBlog.

If you don’t want to be spoiled…read no further! Today’s hopeful is another TV competition show graduate…

Karen Rodriguez – Karen was a contestant on the 5th season of Objetivo Fama, a Puerto Rican talent contest that aired on Univision.

Karen is a early idol throwback with her Celine Dion power ballads. Her performances on Objetivo Fama demonstrate however that Karen knows how to work a stage. This was a talent sorely lacking in season 9, and something that Nigel has specifically mentioned is a goal this season.

Now she would be a huge asset to the show. Hopefully Karen makes it on the stage, I think she has real potential!

  • Silent Screams

I don’t think she has the range to take on these big songs. Listen to the glory note at the end of “All By Myself” (second song). It’s not nearly as high or as good as the note in Celine’s version.

I hope Karen ends up being closer to a Syesha Mercado than a Kristen McNamara when it comes to contestants who have prior experience on reality music shows.

Also, this has nothing to do with Karen, but just so everyone knows we have seen 17 of the top 40 sing on the show. 6 girls and 11 guys. 7 girls and 3 guys have had their audition shows shown but were not featured, although there is always the Best of The Rest episode. There are 5 girls and 8 guys left in the top 40 who haven’t had their city shown yet.

gangreen29, are they doing a best of the rest episode? Any thoughts on who they might feature in one?

They haven’t confirmed they are doing one, but they have three cities left and 4 audition episodes, and the talent for those cities wasn’t so spectacular that they would split one of them up for two episodes I don’t think. I would say Ta-Tynisa Wilson from Milwaukee is a good bet to be on it. They showed every Milwaukee top 40 person but her, and she has been featured a lot in promos although not singing. I would guess Colton Dixon from Nashville because he auditioned with his sister, who also made it all the way to the top 60. I was surprised the producers would pass on that story so I bet they will be shown. I’m not sure on others though.

Yay – our only hope for “Ty” to win this year:) (Unless, Ty means the reign of Steven TYler…)

    Colton Dixon from Nashville

Hmmm, that would be an interesting story.

By the way, thanks for the previews! I’ve been reading all of your commentary. Have you recognized anyone from when you auditioned?

I think I remember Jackie Wilson being a couple lines ahead of me. From what I heard she was very good. There was A LOT of talent of course, and lots that weren’t even making it past the first cut which I think it probably par for the course for all the audition cities.

Wow, a pro!!! So how did the winner sound?

  • Fullmoon

Wow, I’m loving Karen. She’s ready. The problem is that she may be too good for Idol and you know what that means…backlash!!

Really, you think she’s that contestant? I thought she was excessively boring and rather mediocre, in truth.

  • chessguy99

Not feeling this one. She’s more of a S3-6 type. Also, my understanding is she was eliminated somewhere around Top 5-7 on that show, but I guess she could have markedly improved in three years. A contestant with a Latin flavor to them would be a welcome sight on the show. But, I prefer Julie Zorilla, who has a more contemporary Latin pop style.

Yes, I do. If Idol is looking for a pop star than she has the package already. She’s Latina, pretty with a good voice and stage presence. She would appeal to the Pop and R&B/Urban audience. Trust me. I see Jenifer Lopez 15yrs ago in her.

My parents are gonna freak out. They’re massive die hard fans of Objetivo Fama! LOL

I completely agree! She can hit some of the high notes but she lacks something. Too much hand and body movement at the wrong time. For me, from a scale of 1 to 10, she was a 4.5.

  • TwigLA

I like her voice and she’s a gorgeous girl with good stage presence. The show needs some Latinas/Latinos as well as Asian representation.

I’d be interested to hear some songs from her in English.

With that said, I’m not a Celine Dion fan and can only take that type of singing in small doses. Save me from the ‘glory notes’ … they get on my nerves after a while.

ETA – I didn’t realize that Gangreen auditioned. Did I miss a post telling of that experience?
