That’s always been one of the fascinating things about the tour: which contestants will be a revelation live? The two that have impressed me most in past Idol concerts with how much better they were in concert than on the show were Lisa Tucker and Anthony Federov, and now Matt joins that group.

As for Lil, while she’s smart enough to do songs people know, I don’t think she adds much to them. Just compare her to some of the R&B ladies of other Idol years like Syesha and Vonzell, let alone Fantasia and J. Hud, and she’s pales in comparison…

Amaryllis – many thanks for your very good re-cap. Lots of nice detail.

I too would like to hear Allison with a change of tempo. Perhaps it’s because she’s so young that they’ve kept her rocking all through the set. Maybe the powers that be consider that slow, emotional love songs aren’t quite the thing for a 17-year old who probably hasn’t experienced much of it first-hand yet.
Still, there are surely a few slower songs which would be appropriate for her.

Thanks for the recap. I’ve seen a lot of people say that they are more impressed with Kris live than they were on the show. It seems like he’s been able to rock out more during the concert, which is something he really likes, and he has really utilized his lower register to full effect, much more than he did on the show. I’m not sure if it’s because of the small amount of vocal coaching he received (I don’t think he previously had any vocal training at all) or just because he’s doing different stuff than he got to do on the show. I do remember Masterclass Lady saying in her blog during the show that she thought Kris (who she thought was wonderful) could get way more out of his voice with just a little coaching. There is definitely a great, natural gift there.

I reallly wish I could go to one of these shows. But, until I one day get to go to a Kris Allen concert, I do appreciate all the recaps I’ve gotten here. So, thanks to you, and to everyone else, for taking the time to share your experience, and to MJ for hosting a place for all of us to fantard out.

Thank you so much for your beautiful recap. It is really spot on.I can see you enjoyed yourselfand I can’t wait for Memphis.However, I think if Kris got the applause at the begining of each of his songs, it was good, and the crowd geniunely loved it. But here is the thing, his set are the kind of songs that you would like to sit down and enjoy instead of standing or dancing.Kris’ strength being excellent interpretation of songsis also a factor, you listen to lyrics and not the rhythm and I think it really works for him. He can definately play arenas,just like people like him have done.Thank you once again for the nice recap. I can’t wait to see Kradam!

Thanks for the review, Amaryllis! I also find Starlight stunning and love your photos, particularly the one during that song.

Another odd vocal sound here like his voice went all raspy ‘â€œ I was really concerned ‘â€œ but it was only momentary.

That’s scary. I hope everything is okay. I’m sure he knows how to take care of himself but the tour schedule is so demanding. From all the reviews, It seems they all sang their hearts out in L.A. and all of them really could use some vocal rest after San Diego.

Concerning Allison, it is a shame that she doesn’t have an additional song to show her versatility – she totally can do mellower songs as she did in the TV Show, songs like: I can’t make you love me, Someone to watch over me. Maybe if she had landed in 3rd or 2th place… oh well.
