2nd Update: Allison’s CD is also streaming at AOL HERE.

Update: The entire album is streaming HERE.   If you download the MP3s, PLEASE buy the entire album.

Well. Sorta.

Allison Iraheta’s debut album, Just Like You is streaming live on My Space, but only the odd numbered songs are posted at the moment.   I’ll assume the even numbers will go up fairly soon.

I’ll update the post when the entire album goes live.

But in the meantime, enjoy half the album. Heh.

  • Allison IrahetaJust Like You Live Streaming – HERE.

Pre-order the album:

  • Allison Iraheta ‘“ Just Like You ‘“ iTunes Amazon

  • PRMari

Hopefull they’ll post the other half soon, people are missing out on the greatness of Holiday and Trouble is, not to mention the incredibly fun and insanely catchy Robot love.

  • alli lurker

I hope we get to hear the whole thing soon!

So far, Allison’s co-write ‘You Don’t Know Me’ is my favorite. I just love her voice and the lyrics on that song. I could see that being an Idol exit song and I would love to see her sing it on the show.

I wish the acoustic version of Just Like You was on the album. Its just so, so good. I love the guitars, Dave’s harmony and her smoker voice on the acoustic version.

I still love FIBOU. I think Lyndsey Parker was right… its a good representation of who Allison is. Its got great energy and its got that “in your face” quality that Allison seems to like.

The entire album is up at YouTube, so if you want to listen to it, you can always hear it there.

I, for one, love every single track on this album (yes, even FIBOU). Just Like You and No One Else are my favourites.

  • boredinschool

It’s not streaming for those in Canada :(

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Lamberthita lamberthita

My favorite ones are “Trouble is”,”D is for dangerous”,”scars”,of course “Holiday”,”You don’t know me”,”No one else”.
everytime I listen “Robot Love” makes me smile
“Don’t waste the pretty”,”Still breathing” are becoming my fav slowly

  • Old Rocker Dude

Not sure if giving a link to another blog will get me banned but the whole album is on http://idolbloglive.com/idolblog/?p=4932 Absolutely amazing. Not a bad song in the bunch. This is one Great CD.

  • PRMari

Trouble is is fantastic, a beautiful song performed with so much feeling and Holiday just kicks some serious ass.

  • Lu

I like what I’m hearing so far!

  • wickedelphie10

I love this album sooo freaking much! amazing! people-if you like it please buy it! we want Allison to be successful and be able to make many more albums!

  • chessguy99

Wow, why wasn’t Beat Me Up the first single? I know Chris Brown made it taboo to talk about bad gf/bf relationships. But, the song just screams Top 40 hit. Maybe after she gets established on the radio, and we get a full year away from the CB/Rhianna incident, they will release it.

I really like Trouble Is and D is For Dangerous, can’t wait to hear Holiday live. Have to give big props to her AR, not a bum song in the lot. Considering previous Idol releases, like Diana Degarmo’s as noted in a previous blog item, I think she got one of the better first albums. Not quite Daughtry or David Cook, but packed with quality songs.

  • GEORGI

Amazing. I seldom like an entire album, but this definitely exceeds expectation. Love it! I feel like her writers/co-writers really “got” her.

  • justantonio

What a great album…start to finish…..it has to be one of if not the best album released by an idol.

Kris Allen may have won American Idol, Adam Lambert may be getting the most attention, but Allison Iraheta has the best songs and album.

Kris and Adams albums combined don’t even come close to being as good as this album.

  • NFG_fan

Absolutely Love this album (especially track 3 onwards)– cant wait to get it in my sticky little hand on tuesday :0)

  • williNalli

I have LISTENED TO THE WHOLE ALBUM…I can’t stop crying…Now you know why I bought 3 copies (one iTunes, 2 physical copies for my friend and me).

This album will be my MUSICAL BIBLE for years to come…UNTIL HER NEXT ALBUM !!!

  • anijsch

Amazing. I seldom like an entire album, but this definitely exceeds expectation.

I don’t liked her single very much, but in context of the album I even like it.
And I normally don’t go for music of artist people don’t know as Christmas presents, but she is so good I think I will take the risk this year.

  • Valentin432

Loved the album, Allison’s voice is great and recognizable on most of the tracks.
But the first two song seem to be from a completely different album. FIBOU is still ok but WTF is Robot Love? The lyrics seem to pander directly to 5-10 years old.

I understand why Hollyday wasn’t selected as the single if Dillana is using it but Beat me Up should be it, it’s a fun and catchy track.

  • brittneybabyy

I still really dislike “Friday I’ll Be Over U,” and I don’t care much for “Robot Love” but I do really like “Just like You,” “Don’t Waste The Pretty,” “Scars,” “D is for Dangerous,” “Trouble Is,” and “You Don’t Know Me.” I’m pretty indifferent to the rest of the album so far; I’ll have to listen a couple more times before I form my solid opinion on every song. But overall, I think this is a great album for Allison’s debut ‘” it’s not one of my favorite albums ever, though ‘” and I hope she does well in her sales/career! I will be buying this when it comes out. (:

  • brittneybabyy

But the first two song seem to be from a completely different album.

My thoughts EXACTLY. They just don’t seem to fit with the rest of the album to me.

  • cmc25

Love love all tracks, I am buying her CD. This could be my favorite among the newly released albums from AI alumni.

  • PRMari

WTF is Robot Love? The lyrics seem to pander directly to 5-10 years old.

I don’t see how a song whose first three lines include something along the lines of “waking up to sounds of text messages in my ear (which clearly indicates she’s waking up in the same bed as said boyfriend) and “I beg you baby connect with me instead” is directed to kids, not to mention the whole bridge with “how can I save you now? Love’s not mechanical, sometimes I wanna feel”. It’s a song about how technology sometimes is in the way of human relationships, in this case a somewhat serious romantic relationship.

Sure the song on the surface sounds poppy (and it is) but the lyrics are actually quite smart IMO and the beat is totally infectious.

  • Kanz

Sorry Adam and Kris fans, this is hands down the best debut album by an Idol so far. The songs are well written and really allow Allison to showcase her vocal prowess. She can reach those notes but at the same time, she sings with so much passion and emotion, it’s infectious. These songs were made for her, and she elevates them to a level few artists are ever able to. She is no disney pop princess, welcome Queen of Rock, Allison Iraheta.

  • Charlotte

I really like Allison, & I think the album is great, but no matter how hard I try to hear the supposed superiority of this album to those of the other Idols, I just can’t. This is my least favorite of the three albums released this season. It’s good, but the songs don’t stick with me (even after listening multiple times…). I also think the songs sound more similar to each other. I’ll probably buy a few, but definitely not the entire album like I did for the others. It’s odd, because I thought I would really like Allison’s album, but (for me for her for me…) it seems to be missing something, or sort of empty… I can’t pinpoint exactly what it is though. It just doesn’t click. Anyhow, my favorites are “Just Like You” & “Trouble Is.” I wish her the best!

  • http://www.noahsarkworkshop.com/tammyluebrecht_s9189 tammyinohio

Just my opinion but if you disregard FIBOU and Robot Love, this album is absolute perfection!! I just can’t deal with the first two songs…totally skipping right over them. Anyways, I cannot wait to get this album…WTG Allison!!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com/ mgk

I’m not quite as in love with the album as others are, but her voice sounds awesome. Its just that some of the songs sound too alike, IMO. Scars is still my favorite.

  • miss-silverwing

This is SO strange, but “Don’t Waste the Pretty” and other songs are really reminding me of Michelle Branch above any other artists. DWtP especially feels to me like it could come straight off of one of Michelle’s albums.

There are also moments on this album that really remind me of Kelly’s first album, “Thankful.” I wonder how Kelly would sound on “Scars?” I bet she’d be incredible. Allison is amazing, though.

It’s weird to me because both of these are the last comparisons I would’ve expected to draw, but it really fits more than any other artists I can think of.

  • butte009

My husband asked over my shoulder who I was listening to and when I told him this was the girl who got fourth on AI he said “She’s better than the other AI turkey you’ve played recently”. Granted, we’ve only heard a few songs from each cd but I’m much more likely to give Allison’s cd a shot- which is actually surprising to me. YMMV.

  • snood199

FIBOU still irritates me; same with Robot Love.
    Just Like You was okay.
Love “Don’t Waste the Pretty,” even if the acoustic was better. Same for Scars!
Pieces and D is for Dangerous are okay-to-good.
Holiday is AWESOME and reminds me how much I loved Dilana on Rock Star Supernova.
Still Breathing sucked even before it froze my browser. Sounds like Daughtry’s “Over You” with a girl singing.
Trouble Is and No One Else were kind of boring.
Beat Me Up was repetitive but at least lively.
You Don’t Know Me was ok.
Sooo…faves Don’t Waste the Pretty, Scars, and Holiday. But kudos to Allison for having a few songs fall outside of the 3:00-4:59 length window almost all Idol songs get trapped in, even if I thought they kind of misfired.

  • Old Rocker Dude

I played the songs for my wife (who thinks I’m a little Allison obsessed). I said, “Not bad, eh?” (ya I’m Canadian). Her reply – “Not bad? They’re fantastic!” I love my wife!!! and Allison too.

  • allisonfanahtic

I love EVERY song in this album …Trouble Is made me tear up big time and Holiday blew me away!! I hope Trouble Is is her second single!! Woo, what a great album!!!

  • Jae

Wow this is really gooD. FIBOY is really the weakest song on the album. I will by buying it! Glad I can support my girl Allison. I still love Holiday bit I also liked Robot Love, Scars, Pieces…in other words, I like more then half. I hope this little girl has a fantastic career.

  • CathyMK

Such a great album. I’m so happy that they let her voice shine through, instead of processing the life out of it.

  • TwigLA

I really like Scars and Don’t Waste The Pretty. The rest of the album, I’m on the fence about. I really don’t like ‘Beat Me Up’ for a lot of reasons. That’s one song I wish were not on her album.

Overall, though, it is a good first effort and I hope she sells well. There is a lot on it that I think will appeal to the teen market. I also think she’ll do these well in concert.

  • miss-silverwing

The album, although it’s better than Kris’ (sorry! I like Adam’s best), I predict will not sell well. =( FIBOU has not charted at all, to my knowledge, and I think that it will dissuade a lot of fans after hearing it. I love Allison, and it made me uneasy about her album. If I didn’t follow Idol info and was going off of the sound of her single alone, I don’t think I’d buy the album.

But I’m hoping! It’s possibly that she’ll sell as well as Kris, though I doubt she’ll outsell him. Idols have surprised me before, though. =)

  • PRMari

Well, you know, albums don’t just sell on the first week. I know she’s not going to outsell either Adam or Kris on the first week and I don’t think they expect her too either. If Jive is patient, considering she’s not either the winner nor the runner up, and gives her time and promotion, I think the album sells itself, not to mention her live performances are always so good.

FIBOU hasn’t charted that high (#72) but it also hasn’t had any national promotion, at all. It all starts now for her.

  • cochem

I know she’s not going to outsell either Adam or Kris on the first week and I don’t think they expect her too either.

Rolling Stone Nov 26 issue page 28 had a little piece on Adam, Allison, & Kris..

Chance for success…Iraheta’s label expects to sell about 75,000 copies the first week. “Allison can sing her butt off.” says a Jive exec. “But she doesn’t have the visability of Adam or Kris.”

The Bottom Line….The single is hot but might be too edgy for Idol fans.

  • LoveDaRocker

Thud (me dead). (5 mins later) I am back.
This is FANTASTIC album! And, for an Idol alum’s debut, this is nothing short of a CLASSIC! It exceeds all my expectations.
If you liked Allison in the show, it’s hard to believe you don’t love this Album.
The most common complaints I have seen are that FIBOU and Robot Love are out of place with the rest of the album, and that FIBOU should not have been the first single.
As for the former, those two songs widen the variety of music in the album and make it more fun, so, I have no problems with two songs like that in the album.
As for the latter, I am sort-of with you. There are so many awesome songs in the album that picking FIBOU might have been a bit of a misfire.
My one complaint: I wish there would have been at least one more song like Holiday in place of one of the power ballads, just to balance things out a bit. Although, I don’t know which power ballad I would have taken out. When it comes to power ballads, it is Allison’s world and everyone else plays in it.

  • mmb

I love FIBOU. And the album is solid. But I,unfortunately, do not think its gonna be a big success However,I do believe that in a few years, when allison is in her early 20s and has some life experiences under her belt, she will have her “Jagged Little Pill” album (ala. Alanis M – another teen reality show contestant) and explode.

  • will

FIBOY is really the weakest song on the album.

Am I detecting a pattern here? FYE is by far the weakest on Adam’s album, IMHO, and while LLWD isn’t necessarily “weak,” I think it’s the weakest showcase for Kris’ talents on his album. So three for three.

My husband asked over my shoulder who I was listening to and when I told him this was the girl who got fourth on AI he said ‘She’s better than the other AI turkey you’ve played recently’ .

And which “turkey” was he referring to?

After reading the mostly positive comments, I think I’ll forego the stream and wait for the real thing. Why spoil my track record?

  • Sherena

The Bottom Line’ ¦.The single is hot but might be too edgy for Idol fans.

Wait are you talking about FIBOU? FIBOU is pretty standard mainstream. Now if she released Beat Me Up, THAT might be too ~edgy for Idol fans…

  • Sherena

Am I detecting a pattern here? FYE was by far the weakest on Adam’s album, IMHO,

    Weaker than Aftermath?

  • will

    Weaker than Aftermath?

    I like that song!

  • Rub

miss-silverwing :…If I didn’t follow Idol info and was going off of the sound of her single alone, I don’t think I’d buy the album.

It is certain this album is very similar in approach as Adam’s. There’s practically a song for everyone for just about every age group. Can you imagine if we based an opinion on Adams FYE single release, or TFM for that matter? Not too favorable if I didn’t listen to the rest of the album, like Soaked for instance.

This album has Robot you can dance to, Holiday to rock, then there’s DWTP, Scars, Trouble Is, and so on for everybody in between with her signature throaty voice. And aside what some in this board think, FIBOU has sneaked into my top 5 songs I’d love hear live. Its a good jamming song.

Sales really aren’t that important to me at this juncture – only because she has little to no visibility outside the bubble. Finishing 4th after a strong finale finalists in Adam and Kris(unlike a pair of weak Taylor & Katharine, Daughtry was fortunate) with all the visibility in the ratings in the last 10 mins., and no idol machine to ride, Allison’s direction given all the data, has to be routed as a new artist. Interesting to note, the least favored FIBOU, without any airplay/promotion, sold 10k copies out of the hole. There’s your baseline to start from. For us Alli fans, the dreaded patience, will have to be part of our lives, as Alli goes through the twist and turns of the tried and true method of getting an artist out to people, and there’s good material to do it with. And, in the process we get to see her perform live opening for somebody, release other singles, and finally, drop a rock album. What else can a guy want?

  • Sherena

    Weaker than Aftermath?

    I like that song!

Ahaha I like it too. But I love FYE :P I was using Aftermath as an example b/c I thought it would likely be among your least favorites, just b/c it seems to be among most ppl’s least favorites. But good for you for being different! (not trying to sound condescending at all either lol)

  • spring2009

I won’t listen I so disagree with children in the entertainment industry. I certainly do not wish her ill but the maturity that is needed is not there.

  • Sherena

I won’t listen I so disagree with children in the entertainment industry. I certainly do not wish her I’ll but the maturity that is needed is not there.

She’s 17. Hardly a child. Will she really be that different next year when she’s officially an adult? Besides, she seems to be handling the pressure better than a lot of adults in the industry (although that could be partially b/c she doesn’t have a whole lot of pressure on her yet).

  • Rub

spring2009:I won’t listen I so disagree with children in the entertainment industry. I certainly do not wish her ill but the maturity that is needed is not there.

Thats something my parents would say to me when I would jam to my music.
A lot of the songs I jam to are very immature, like AFI and GnR. FTW
Christina and even Paramore’s Hayley started in their teens – look how huge they are now.

  • PRMari

I won’t listen I so disagree with children in the entertainment industry. I certainly do not wish her ill but the maturity that is needed is not there.

I don’t get this at all. She’s 5 months shy of being a legal adult. What maturity isn’t there? Maturity for what? She seems to be doing quite well with all of this so far and remains grounded and as a singer she is quite mature.

  • Rub

Beat Me Up has a nice catchy beat, and it would make a nice spanish rock.
Also Im all over “Pieces” and “You Don’t Know Me,” nice songs all around.
I love the different elements going on in No One Else, especially the reverb on the guitar parts, and the vocal dynamics with feeling. Again all these trax will multiply in awesomeness on stage live. GMA in three days baby!

JohnM your thoughts, where you at?

  • Reflections On Life

So far, Allison’s co-write ‘You Don’t Know Me‘ is my favorite. I just love her voice and the lyrics on that song. I could see that being an Idol exit song and I would love to see her sing it on the show.

    ITA!

As for the album – strong work, Allison!

  • LoveDaRocker

After a second listen, I am very impressed with this Album. However, I can’t really say I love “Beat Me Up”. It makes me feel uncomfortable. I can’t see the “its not physical” argument. I like the beat and her handling of the melody, I just wish there would be other lyrics. I can’t even hum to the chorus.

  • Rub

LoveDaRocker, just feel the sound – its rocking. Maybe after a third listen ha?
You guys put too much stock on lyrics dude. Only in this joint, but hey, we all roll differently.
I can’t wait to hear the Daughtry tune.

  • brittneybabyy

I agree about FYE. It’s my least favorite song on his album, but I still like it. Which is why Adam’s is my favorite album release of these 3 Idols – I like EVERY single song on it.

And I agree that we are 3/3 on the fact that for Adam, Kris and Allison the songs that were released as their first singles are some of the weakest, if not the weakest, from their albums. I actually like FYE & LLWD, extremely dislike FIBOU, and I think LLWD was the best choice of the three.

    Weaker than Aftermath?

I actually loveeee Aftermath. I know it’s not produced as well as the other songs, but the lyrics, the passion in his voice. I don’t know. I love it.

  • alli lurker

Hey Rub, I’m not JohnM but I agree with most of your comments. You Don’t Know Me is still my favorite after hearing everything. I also like Pieces and No One Else like you do. FIBOU will be fantastic live – we can already see that in the music video.

Its frustrating to me that on a bunch of songs there’s one or two quirky things added in production that make them weird for me. Like in Trouble Is, the na-na-na’s – those really don’t need to be there. And in the second half of Don’t Waste The Pretty it sounds like Allison is singing backup to some anonymous choral group. I like Still Breathing, but not the music at the very beginning. And in D is for Dangerous there’s a high pitched whistle noise during the verses that bothers me – otherwise, I love that song.

I said in a different post that I would love a live concert recording or an acoustic record from Allison. Maybe that would get rid of some of the quirks for me!

  • LoveDaRocker

Another one I forgot to mention… in the Scars chorus when she says “I’ve got flaws..” that sounds like it was spliced in there somehow. It just doesn’t seem to flow smoothly. I love the verses on Scars, though.

  • Rub

You hit the nail on head about Allison singing backup – well put. I must confess, Im not enjoying all the overproduced knob twisting of these producers on Alli’s vocals. And I agree, a live version is in order, because after being spoiled with the acoustic raw-DWTP, its hard to swallow the album version, but I still do anyways.

It makes me feel uncomfortable. I can’t see the ‘its not physical’ argument.

I actually get the vibe that it’s a messed up relationship, not necessarily physically abusive but co-dependant and maybe some rough stuff.

  • alli lurker

I still like Beat Me Up… its just a fun song. It could have a few more lyrics, there’s not much to it.

I said earlier that You Don’t Know Me could be an Idol exit song. Still Breathing could do the job, too.

  • Rub

Hey alli lurker, Im listening to BMU for like the 8th time, and for being titled Beat Me UP, its fun aint it? When Britney’s HMOMT was all over radio I never paid any attention to that part. Only when an MTV reporter asked her about it, is when I took noticed.

Oh, a good exit song could be : FIBOU. why not? lol

  • alli lurker

Beat Me Up is all about the energy – just like Allison!

Hey Rub, you’re right, FIBOU could be an exit song!! Haha!

  • weareallinnocent

Allison is my second favorite of the season, and I’m looking forward to hearing all of this. I’m listening now.

So far, while I like the sound of it and adore her vocals, too many of the first few songs referred to getting texts or texting, which make me feel like the music is geared for folks WAY younger than me. :-) Seriously though, there is a bit of a disconnect for her aged, raspy vocals singing youthful lyrics. But that won’t be the deciding factor for me, just an observation and certainly NOT a criticism (of anyone other than me) because it’s exactly what she needs to do!

I am enjoy this album so far, for the most part. I’m not going to do a comparison to others because it’s not about that for me at this point. She’s good, no doubt about it. I suspect I’ll buy it to support her, as I liked her that much during the season. We’ll see.

  • alli lurker

Allison is my FIRST favorite of the season!!! Whoo hoo!!!

  • JohnM

JohnM your thoughts, where you at?

I’m here now. Sheesh, my wife made me do freakin’ CHORES today, on Allison Streaming Day!! Can you believe it?? :-) I’ve missed you guys all day.

I posted some thoughts last week after hearing the album at Torrid. Now that I’ve heard it at home, in an actually good listening environment (despite the fact that it’s still only a stream), some additional things have struck me, of course, although generally my reactions are about the same.

I don’t like the title track any more than I did. I hate to say this, given that I love what Max Martin did with Carolina Liar, but there’s too much Max Martin on this one. The ending is really bad, sort of taking the FIBOU ending and making it worse. Obviously the acoustic performances she’s done kick the crap out of this version. But I still like this. It’s a good song underneath it all, and of course Allison can make a great song out of just about anything ever written.

I knew from the clip that Don’t Waste The Pretty was going to be a favorite, and that has only intensified. Hearing it on the headphones, I hear more interesting bits that I couldn’t hear at Torrid. More stuff going on in the bass, but more than anything else, the harmonic arrangement of this one is fan-freaking-tastic. Big kudos to Howard Benson or whoever arranged this. Major winner.

I like Pieces better than I did. The chorus is somewhat overdone, but it’s still good and I’m acclimating to it, and the verses are great. Excellent drums. And it has an interesting bridge and a fantastic ending.

I knew from the first listen to the clip of D Is For Dangerous that it was going to be a favorite. Damn good. And have you caught her riffing during the fade? Really nice.

Holiday is so damn rockin! I actually like it a lot more now that I’ve heard it on a good system.

I’m going to need someone to wave some smelling salts at me every time I finish listening to Trouble Is, because I fall over dead every time. OMFG. I knew from the Aimee Proal demo that this is a really really well-written song, and then of course you add The Great Red Hope’s full-bodied voice to it and holy shit.

Still Breathing is Still Way Overdone in the chorus, but I still love the verses, and the bridge is cool (and therefore too short!). This one veers closest to the generic Daughtry-type stuff that puts me to sleep, but it’s still way better than that, thanks in no small part to Allison’s delivery.

Still kinda working on No One Else. Liking it a bit more than I did. It just strikes me as one big cliche, but it does have some classic pop harmonic structure in the chorus that I just can’t resist.

Beat Me Up, yeah, it’s fun to bop to for sure, and it’s really well-produced, but frankly I won’t be surprised if I get bored with it, because it’s just not very interestingly written.

I’m just so thrilled that her co-write, You Don’t Know Me, is so great. It’s one of the very best on the album — really rockin’, but with softer parts and without being overproduced. A true winner.

So again, I’m so happy that they let her voice shine through. There are lots of really glorious moments — plenty of the real Allison to love. And with the exception of FIBOU, Robot Love, and Beat Me Up as I’ve mentioned before, the whole thing hangs together amazingly well, especially considering the usual mish-mash of producers involved. A really good, strong album overall. I just never dared dream it would be this good. Light-years ahead of Adam’s, and at least as good as Kris’. And even though Kris’ is really good, of course Just Like You has to be better in the end, because it has THE VOICE! ;-)

    Love it!!

Anybody else smelling some Grammy nominations?

    Seriously

  • Sherena

Anybody else smelling some Grammy nominations?

Not unless she manages a lot more sales than it seems like she’s going to get now, lol. Otherwise she’s not on the Grammy radar.

  • matkojapan

    Sherena

Since when have sales ever mattered for the Grammies?

Half of the nominated artists I’ve never even heard of year after year!

I can definitley see a female rock performance nomination as long as they release a second or third single

  • JohnM

Got that right, Sherena. The Grammys are very heavily sales-influenced, and I’m afraid it’s going to be a long, hard road for her to sell enough to keep going. :-(

  • Sherena

The nominated non-high sellers tend to be industry favorites or critical darlings, from my understanding. They also don’t tend to be nominated in Pop–which is the category that Allison would fall under.

  • matkojapan

Maybe the AMA’s are sales influenced but I disagree about the Grammys.

And on a side note, does Jive really excpect her to sell that many in her first week? Kris only did 80K!!

I’d be happy if Ally did 25k!!

  • Sherena

And on a side note, does Jive really excpect her to sell that many in her first week? Kris only did 80K!!

If they were expecting it, I don’t think they’re expecting it any more after Kris’ debut. I’d be happy if she sold 50k or so, and 25k wouldn’t be bad either. The key here is getting a hit single so that her album can stick it out there and not have a steep decline after the first few weeks, b/c she can’t afford that.

  • JohnM

I’d be very happy with 25K given her lack of exposure. I’ve been wondering if she’s going to struggle even to hit five figures.

  • PRMari

And on a side note, does Jive really excpect her to sell that many in her first week? Kris only did 80K!!

I’m pretty sure after Kris’ sales they re-evaluated those predictions.

I don’t really care if she wins a Grammy or not as long as I like the music and she’s happy and selling enough to eventually get her to a second album. For me, it’s not about the show with her, it’s about the music.

Pass the smelling salts along with some hankies and a bucket.

  • matkojapan

Just curious. Anyone know if the calculated sales figures are North American only or world wide?

  • Sherena

Just curious. Anyone know if the calculated sales figures are North American only or world wide?

The figures being discussed are just for the United States. Kris’ 80k is just from the U.S., and the predicted numbers for Allison are too. It’s all the same anyway, since the Idols aren’t exposed enough worldwide to sell all that much outside of here.

  • JohnM

Catching up on some previous comments — not that anyone will necessarily see this anyway, but what the heck…

snood199: But kudos to Allison for having a few songs fall outside of the 3:00-4:59 length window almost all Idol songs get trapped in, even if I thought they kind of misfired.

    Umm, uhhhh, huh? Whaa??

I guess that qualifies as damning with faint praise, eh? :-D

alli lurker: I like Still Breathing, but not the music at the very beginning.

Don’t know why you have a problem with it if you like the chorus, because it’s just an initial statement of the chorus without a vocal.

And in D is for Dangerous there’s a high pitched whistle noise during the verses that bothers me

Don’t know what you’re talking about here either. I guess either your system is doing some weird interference thing or my old ears don’t hear that high anymore!

  • alli lurker

    JohnM
I don’t like the title track any more than I did.

If I had not heard the acoustic version of this song (which I absolutely love and I know you like, too) I would totally agree with you. Its got some of those quirks I mentioned before. The piano at the beginning makes it sound like she’s auditioning for glee and the synthesizer in the middle is just cheesy.

  • jtoms

holiday is easily the best song on the album. love it.

  • alli lurker

    JohnM

Reminds me of the beginning a studio recording from Idol. Most of them are pretty bad – IMO.

or my old ears don’t hear that high anymore!

    Must be!

I agree about the piano intro on JLY. Just seems lacking a little something.

And in the second half of Don’t Waste The Pretty it sounds like Allison is singing backup to some anonymous choral group.

Also agree on this – wish she was doing that rapid fire DWTP like in the acoustic. Especially, I love the way Allison resolves DWTP in the acoustic radio station sessions – so delicate and soulful. However, in the production version it just abruptly ends.

However, all things considered I still absolutely love this album. And, Trouble Is still gives me chills each time I hear it.

  • tinydance

Instead of buying the FAUX rocker’s (Adam Lambert) CD. People should buy the REAL rocker’s CD. People who like rock are wasting their money on his CD, when Allison’s is the real deal.

Allison was definitely the real rocker from this season, and her music proves it.

  • Rub

We can all agree Allison kicks anybodys ass live, and I mean anybody!
Those 2 acoustic songs are the best ever!

As we hear more of these songs live, she’s gonna decimate her own studio album versions. She’s that good and the producers are gonna kick themselves for turning those knobs and sliders a little to high in some of the trax. Look out FIBOU and the pounding glorious Holiday.

  • JohnM

I guess I’m just out of sync with you guys — really no clue what your problem is with the DWTP choral stuff — that’s one of the highlights of the album, because of the harmonic complexity.

    Especially confused by this…

wish she was doing that rapid fire DWTP like in the acoustic.

… because she is doing it, in the overdubbed backing harmonies. Are you just saying you wish she was doing it in the lead vocal track?

  • alli lurker

Yes Rub, we can all agree that she kicks anybody’s ass live. I never complain about her singing, its just some of the production that bothers me.

  • Rub

Thats exactly what it is JohnM, its not in the forefront track. Im sure the live version will have Alli at the forefront, unless the sound guy lowers the levels on her mic and raises the backup(band) vocals. Of course she’ll raise the soulfulness a notch or two.

  • JohnM

I actually prefer this arrangement, with her riffing over the background rapid-fire DWTPs.

And contrary to what you said, I expect that’s how it’ll be done live, with the band doing the same backing line and her riffing over it.

  • glamertitis

Allison a real rocker??? More like mistress of the Karaoke party! Maybe when she grows up, she will get some real rock cred. For now, she is a wannabe pop star. Listen closely… that is not rock, but pop imitation of the other tweenie singers. Even Miley has more “rock cred”. Real rock CD – Indeed! Made me cringe just listening to the amateurism in the singing. She’ll be lucky to sell 25k. Just saying

  • ppwars

…and I prefer JohnM’s version, I think. BUT, JohnM! “D ‘ danger” DOES have a weird little pipe, whistle, or whatever running through the song. I have had ear probs for WEEKS, so, initially, I thought the whole thing was my ears! ANYWAY, I like the effect – goes with the song and its quirkiness.

  • PRMari

  • becausehelives

the album seems to have more slow songs which make her sound older instead of younger faster songs. i mean after fibou the next 5/6 tracks are slow then 2/3 more fast ones, then more slow ones round it up. i think she has so much energy and cld really rock out but she’s gonna be singing acoustic 4 most of these.
i hope the younger crowd likes it cos she needs more fans from that demo.

my fav is scars.. very raw and touching.

  • ppwars

A remarkable album. I find a lot of merit in each song, and many could, and may, be hits. Can’t wait ot get the cd and play it on my stereo system; that’ll be killer.

  • JohnM

glamertitis: So, did I over estimate the 25k? Is that why my post is funny?

Actually, that was the only part of your post that wasn’t funny (the most hilarious part being the Miley bit). Perhaps you missed one of my earlier posts in which I said I’ve been wondering if she’ll have trouble breaking 10K next week, so I think 25K would be quite a good opening week given her almost total lack of exposure.

ETA: But, as PRMari and Rub have touched on, we Allison fans know that patience is a necessity, and first-week sales have very little to do with how things play out in the long run.

  • matkojapan

    JohnM

I think Gingavitis meant 25k TOTAL lol

  • mzbet

How exciting for the Alli fans! She’s got a really good album out and I know her fans can’t wait until it’s available to have in their hands. I hope she sells loads of them!

  • JohnM

matkojapan, yeah, I kinda thought that too, but I decided to be charitable. :-) I know, a weird trait…

mzbet, thanks for your nice words. You’re quite right that we can’t wait to have it in our hands!

  • tinawina

I waited all day to sit down and listen to this. I wanted to give it my full attention.

First of all, I am relieved to hear her VOICE! In all it’s smoky glory, its there. Yesss!

Second, FIBOU sticks out like a sore thumb. I like FIBOU, but even so it’s not a bad thing.

“You Don’t Know Me” just has to be about Simon. Heh. Or at least the Idol producers.

Loved Trouble Is, Scars, Beat Me Up, Holiday, D is for Dangerous, Don’t Waste the Pretty, and I might be one of the few who like Robot Love. LOL. The only ones I don’t like are Still Breathing and No One Else.

Its a little too shiny sounding in spots, but its a really good record. Like really, really good.

I need to sit an absorb this again. Perhaps after I buy the actual CD and listen on some real speakers. It has to sink in. But my first impression is that this is pretty great.

I’m not too worried about her sales wise. If there is anyone who is on the right label for her situation, its Allison. I would guess she needs a pop hit more than anything else, and I really think FIBOU will be that for her, eventually.

    Have a good night peeps!

  • matkojapan

The song I keep playing over an over is Holiday. Gives me goose bumps!

It really is a shame that Dilana released it as her first single. :(
It would really have been a kick ass hit for Alli

Actually, I see her next album steering more in that kind of direction

  • JohnM

Jeez you guys, I just realized what you were talking about with the D Is For Dangerous “whistle”! I thought the initial mention of it said it was in the chorus, so I went back and listened to the chorus and didn’t hear it. Then I went back to the comment and saw that it actually said it was in the verse, so I listened to the verse, and there it was — just a little synthesizer embellishment. I thought you were talking about some strange high-pitched sound artifact rather than an actual part of the arrangement!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com/index.cgi austinmidwife

Wow. This girl’s got pipes!! Love her. I cannot wait to buy this CD.

And why the need to even bring the glittery one’s name into this thread? Jeez, people, this thread is about Allison and her amazing new CD her awesome, rocker chic voice. I’m impressed with this first effort. I love Scars and heard Don’t Waste the Pretty last week and just loved that too. From what I’m hearing of just half the album, the rest has a good chance of being just as good. Nice going, Allison!!

  • ppwars

Thank god, JohnM! I was beginning to worry about your ears as mine have given me HELL. No small thing for a music lover to lose a frequency or two.

  • matkojapan

Could you imagine Alli rockin the Idol stage with Holiday next year?!?!?

    OMG!!

  • alli lurker

No small thing for a music lover to lose a frequency or two.

Yeah, when I was in college, I would go to live shows and stand right in front of the speakers. Pretty dumb.

JohnM – I’m so glad you at least recognize what I was talking about! Thank You.

  • melirose89

i really REALLY hope Allison’s album does well, at least in the 60,000 range which would put her around Leona Lewis’ first week sales. I dont know if that’s aiming too high but i think this album is amazing. She just needs more promotional efforts. I know she’s gonna be on Good Morning America, unless they decide they wanna act stupid and not give any Idol a chance, and she’s gonna be on Ellen Thursday.

I really think the labels did absolutely terrible jobs in picking the single for Adam, Kris and Allison. There are songs which are a million times better on their albums that should have been chosen instead.

Right now im obsessing over D is for Dangerous. that song is epic!! Maybe she should sing Beat Me Up on Good Morning America. It might lead to another scandal for them which will lead to higher album sales for her haha

  • ppwars

Oh No, ‘lurker! Bad damage? Somehow I knew to protect my ears…I guess my hearing was very acute/sensitive and I HAD to take earplugs. I suggest that those of you who love music keep a pair handy for ANY size venue.

  • JohnM

After the first couple of times that I went to rock concerts and came out with dulled hearing and my ears ringing, I started bringing cotton to put in my ears for every concert. Now I (and the whole family) have musician’s earplugs to lower the volume without cutting out much of the high end. Very highly recommended.

  • alli lurker

    Oh No, ‘lurker! Bad damage?

No, I’m still in the ‘normal’ range. Low normal, but still normal! We’ll see how long that lasts!

It just sounds so good there! Maybe the alcohol makes your eardrums more flexible?!!

Nowadays I wear earplugs in the movie theater. Its so freakin’ loud!

  • JohnM

melirose89: I dont know if [60,000 is] aiming too high but i think this album is amazing.

I think it’s way too high, but it doesn’t reallly matter. As you touched on, her serious promotion is really just going to kick in next week, so her visibility will rise and hopefully her sales will too as time goes on.

I really think the labels did absolutely terrible jobs in picking the single for Adam, Kris and Allison.

Nothing new there. The labels seem to make a habit of that.

Right now im obsessing over D is for Dangerous. that song is epic!!

I love the love for that song! It jumped out at me as a favorite from the moment I heard the clip a couple of weeks ago.

Somebody mentioned a part of “Scars” that sounded very roughly patched. I hear what I think is 3 or 4 what ypu may see as patches – where vocals suddenly accelerate(“i’ve got flaws I’ve got falts…). These are metaphorical vocal scars in my mind – it makes a clear impression to my inner eye!

any thoughts on what her next single will be?

I’m leaning towards You Don’t Know Me.

It seems to be the most radio friendly and since Jive said they were gearing her towards the teen market, the lyrics seem to do just that

  • alli lurker

I’m leaning towards You Don’t Know Me.

I’d vote for that since its my favorite. It would also be a good set-up for her to sing it on Idol next season.

any thoughts on what her next single will be?

I would release Trouble Is. That song needs to be released as a single. I can see that song being around for a long time.
YDKM would also be a good choice, as well as Scars and JLY. All good songs.
Hopefully it will not be Robot Love or D is for Dangerous, just because they might be too poppy, and we had enough of that with FIBOU.
Hopefully it will not be Beat Me Up.

  • JohnM

I don’t know if this will be the next single, but I’d bet that Don’t Waste The Pretty will be a single, because it’s the other song besides FIBOU that’s mentioned on the promotional poster and CD sticker. Those mentions are usually a good clue to what the singles will be.

Trouble Is has got to be a single at some point. I see it potentially being The Big Ballad Hit.

Although You Don’t Know Me is one of the very best on the album (or maybe because it’s one of the best!), it won’t be a single, because it’s her co-write, and we can’t have debut Idol alumni releasing singles that they co-wrote. :-P RCA released two of the weakest songs from David Cook’s album, both written by hired guns rather than by him. Jive released a cover for Kris’ first single. So I definitely don’t see YDKM being released as a single.

My money is on DWTP, TI, and the title track.

  • JohnM

LoveDaRocker: Hopefully it will not be Robot Love or D is for Dangerous, just because they might be too poppy

DIFD too poppy? I don’t think of that song as poppy at all. I mean, yeah, the beat is kinda boppin, but naw. Robot Love and Beat Me Up are the two poppy songs besides FIBOU, with No One Else also having some pretty strong pop elements, though not in a “bouncy” way.

Hopefully it will not be Beat Me Up.

They test this stuff on focus groups, and I doubt it’d pass the “focus group test”.

  • matkojapan

I can’t see TI as the next single.
Maybe third. Needs to be released at some point for sure!

Good point about YDKM JohnM. LOL

But of all the songs on the album, that one sticks out the most as a possible teen favorite.

I’m not a teen by a long shot, but it just sounds something so radio friendly that you can sing along to in the car! TI won’t grab peoples attention that way until Ally at least has a hit on her hands. Then people will focus in on the singing once they know her better.

  • JohnM

matkojapan, I agree completely about TI not being the next single — The Big Ballad Hit usually seems to be the one after the initial uptempo hit.

  • williNalli

Guys…LOVE all the songs on the album…Seriously…Robot Love is going to be released as a single, whether u like it or not…But we need to PETITION FOR “D IS FOR DANGEROUS” to have its own video…That song is bewitching and enticing !!!

Actually, her label is expecting around 75,000 copies sold in the first week, which is reasonable…CALM DOWN FOLKS…Just buy as much albums as u can afford, help a little with the promotion…and the rest will take care of itself.

Btw, her songs have been playing in the theaters during this holiday, before and after movies like New Moon.

    GO ROCK GODDESS !!!

  • matkojapan

  • williNalli

Oh matkojapan, how I love your touch of reality/pessimism…It’s inspiring.

But yeah, according to Rolling Stone mag, her label is expecting UP TO 75k sold in the first week, I should have said. I am convinced she will exceed those expectations…Just watch !!!

Who’s with me on “D is for Dangerous” having its own video…I don’t care if it’s the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th single !!!

Or the common sense test. Although it could definitely get her publicity! Just not necessarily the good kind, although you could argue that all kinds are the good kind.

  • ppwars

williNalli, I.m 100% w/ya on D is for dangerous. I would like to see it as a single as well. I think a broad demo would eat it up.

  • NewFan

holiday is easily the best song on the album. love it.

I’m with jtoms on this one. Holiday is amazing and, yes, it could be around for a long while. I also especially loved Trouble Is. I thought that No One Else and D for Dangerous were also excellent. Don’t Waste the Pretty also sounded good to me … but not quite as much. So, of course, that will be the next single when it really should be Holiday. Love that song.

But I really enjoyed listening to the album. I took my time, replayed the songs that I liked the most, tried to overlook the too poppy (Avril) tracks and felt happy that they left some of the rough edges on Allison’s voice … for most of the album. And enough of her own personality came through for it not to sound like “Pink lite”.

Anyway, I hope that they do a good job of marketing this girl and … not just to teenagers. It’s an excellent album and I’m definitely buying. Well, I always knew that I was buying it but … well you know … my Mastercard is now really ready to burn it’s way through iTunes.

    Congratulations Allison.

  • PRMari

I love Beat me up, there I said it. That guitar in the intro and the ending (as well as her lower voice in the verses) kills me and it’s just near damn impossible to not bop your head to this one.

And D is for dangerous is NOT a poppy song at all. It’s pretty heavy on the guitar. I love that one but it’s also a bit of a…maybe too sexy song for them to release as a single, at least not until she’s 18 ;)

I also share the love for You don’t know me and totally wish it would become the next single. It’s a really well written song and it should be really relatable to teens out there but at the same time it’s just a good song for everyone.

  • Truthiness

My favourites were Holiday, Don’t Waste The Pretty and Scars, with D is for Dangerous being up there, but not as good…

  • Rub

Truthiness, check out Trouble Is and have another listen at Just Like You. I got the feeling you’ll embrace it. I’m glad to see you think D is alright. There’s hope for you Still. :p

  • JohnM

About YKDM, DWTP, and crossover country… I don’t follow country AT ALL and thus am no expert, but… This whole crossover country thing is just totally bizarre to me, because the songs I hear that I know are considered “crossover” are just pop songs with maybe a little bit of fiddle or banjo in the background — hardly country at all. I’ve started to wonder if the reason country has gotten so big is because it’s now actually country-and-pop (instead of country-and-western, for you old folks!) — i.e. is it just another outlet for garden-variety pop?

Anyway, given that apparent trend, I can see what matkojapan is saying about You Don’t Know Me — I can definitely imagine it being rearranged to sound more country, so maybe it could fly as a crossover song.

But ppwars‘ suggestion of Don’t Waste The Pretty, nope, I don’t see that at all. It’s pure rock (okay, pop-rock). Sure, it’s got lots of vocal harmony, which is a hallmark of country, but the harmonic structure is way closer to the gorgeous stuff that Pete Townshend did for The Who than to country harmonies (which is part of why I love DWTP so much, because Pete Townshend is a God).

BTW, one of the guys at Allison’s site, who likes country, said he thinks the clip of the Daughtry song (Don’t Wanna Be Wrong) sounds like a crossover hit to him.

  • Pam

Thank you mj for posting the link yesterday. :) I sat down and listened to each song and I agree with whoever said that FIBOU sticks out like a sore thumb because indeed it does. If Jive will eventually give her the promo she deserves, this album could do really well.

I preordered my copy last night from i-tunes from your link mj. Thanks for that too. :)

  • allisonfanahtic

I can’t get Robot Love out of my head..and I like it. :p

  • ppwars

JohnM, DWTP, with a little rearrangement could easily slip over in my mind. You are right, tho: much more poppy stuff (TY TAYLOR) is encroaching in country territory these days, and DWTP x-over would be poppy. “PRETTY” is a word that you will still hear in the South, as I often heard my grandparents use the term for a child’s bauble or other delight. That alone made me listen for the x-over possibilities (as her “Don’t Blame…” peerformance was one of the best country yperformances evver). I think the lyrics would work .

ETA: btw, this could be taken to x-over rock, pop-rock, pop. Hank is spinning in his grave, as are many more after the CMA’s!

  • Nico

Wow, her album is really something! Who would have thought that this 17-yeard old girl’s album will be the one (out of the 3) that’s the most closer to a real rock album… especially after FIBOU! I’m really proud of her and hope for many more albums in the future. My favorite songs: Holiday, Still Breathing, Scars, Trouble Is, You Don’t Know Me (shock! she cowritten this!). There are some songs that I don’t like, but this album as a whole is pretty good.

  • washyourhands

I think she will sell a whole lot. Do not know about 75K, but a LOT.

Two reasons 1) she is super talented and 2) AL fans will come out in force to support her and make Kris look worse

  • matkojapan

Haha! that`s funny wash your hands!

We can dare to dream can`t we?

  • AllenTX

I’d like to know what Jive’s revised expectation of her sales is. After all Kris only sold 80k with his much bigger visibility and radio support. Personally, I’d be happy with 20k.

  • smartalek

20K is paltry, I think Allison will do better than that. I think Allison will outsell Kris. That’s my bet. Maybe I’ll even buy her album to make it happen. FACT of the matter is, if Kris had not won or finished 2nd, Kris would never have been signed. TBTB never cared for him cuz he’s boring. Allison’s star was bright for her young years. And we all know that Adam and Danny were the TBTB’s first choices. And Allison was given the record deal after finishing 4th so that means 19 does believe in her and I think they will find a way to market her. Allison, I expect will sell like the runner-up to Adam cuz IMO, that’s where she was supposed to place. And due to certain choices that Adam is making, that I support but many don’t, she may ultimately be the most successful sales wise from S8, that’s my prediction.

  • smartalek

Allison’s gonna be Daughtry. That’s what I think. She’s pop-rock, that’s pretty much Kelly and Daughtry, right? Adam is the male Lady Gaga, which the mainstream public doesn’t want. And Kris is boring. And Danny’s country material is taking too long to come out. THUS BIG WINNER OF S8 will probably be Allison, that’s what I think.

“I think she will sell a whole lot. Do not know about 75K, but a LOT.

It’s comment like “AL fans will come out in force to support her and make Kris look worse” that makes people like me, a kradison fan have to think twice before I buy all 3 albums. Kris was Allison’s biggest fan from day 1 when he heard her sing and her voice. He even helped her during the AI competition and what did he gained from all that? Trash talking from Allison’s fan? It’s just sad and pathetic…

And FYI, Kris is my top favorite among the 3, but that didn’t stop me from thinking and hoping Allison will be a huge star someday because of her gorgeous voice and talents!

  • JohnM

snlw, I hope you won’t let this “AL fans hate Kris” silliness stop you from buying her album. This is one Allison mega-fan who thinks Kris’ album is really good — and he’s a cool and hilarious guy.

  • PRMari

Guys, a few comments here and there don’t mean Allison’s fans hate Adam or Kris, come on. It’s one person’s opinion and truth be told, we Allison fans have gotten a lot of not so nice comments about the girl from other fanbases, it happens but it shouldn’t diminish her talent or change how she’s percieved, just like the way people perceive for example Adam’s fans shouldn’t have anything to do with how he himself is perceived.

  • matkojapan

snlw- how is wash your hands saying that, a diss from an Allison fan?

He said that AL fans will buy Alli`s record to make Kris look bad.

    He is dissing AL fans!!

  • nina.t

Pure Joy, Adrenalin, love all the songs, Awesome !!

  • miss_marisa

Hmmm not really liking these that much. I like Robot Love, FIBOU, and Holiday but thats about it. I’m in her “target age group” but its my mom that loves these lol. Also, I love Adam’s CD and she hates it. I guess we got switched around there haha

  • oceana

Wow, I love this cd. A few songs I love-love-love. Nothing I dislike. My least favorite song right now is Pieces.

I think Allison will be huge. I’m worried about first week sales, as her promotion seems slight at this point, but I truly have no doubt that she will be a huge star. This is such a great cd, I expect good reviews overall, and it’s only a matter of time before she has a big radio hit because these songs are so powerful. I can’t wait to see how the cd does, not just the first week but the weeks after.

Now is she going to be on some tv shows this coming week? Please post if you know of any, thanks. I need to find her webpage.

I’m not sure what to think about Beat Me Up. It’s really strong musically and lyrically, but man, what does it say? I wish she hadn’t sang it, and I just hope girls won’t take it in the wrong way, as an endorsement of being beat up. I’m sure Alli didn’t mean it that way, but it doesn’t come across as anti-domestic violence … I was hoping it would have a more clear message of deterence.

Also, when I listen to these songs I don’t think of age. I don’t feel excluded because I’m older. I can relate to the feelings in the songs. We were all young once and still have many of the same feelings inside.

  • washyourhands

Actually, I wasn’t really hating on anyone. I do think Allison has incredible talent, as well as Adam. I think a lot of AL fans look at Allison as his little sis because of their Idol relationship, the common rocker theme, and the “slow ride” tour moment. I also see support for her from AL fans on forums. Hopefully AL fans will carry her a bit further bc she is lacking publicity.

I really don’t think it’s very accurate or reality based to speak of us (AL fans) as some sort of a conspiracy against Kris. A lot of us were Kradison fans and I bet a good chunk of Kris’ first weeks sales were from Kradam fans. IMO this is getting quite old and to me doesn’t really represent what’s going on with the different fan groups.

Check out Dilana’s latest Holiday performance at the Roxy.
At 2:50 she gives Allison props or something…

  • oceana

They might be marketing her to teenagers but I think she’ll appeal to lots of older folks too, half of the songs at least. Like Taylor Swift appeals to all ages, so will Allison. I think anyway. I hope they don’t only market her to teenagers. But people will buy the cd if they like the songs they hear.

AL fans will come out in force to support her and make Kris look worse

Oh I don’t think very many people are that vindictive. I think the number of people who would do that are few and would not impact sales in any meaningful way. It’s kind of a paranoid thought really. I don’t see it. Adam fans have better things to do with their time. And a lot of Adam’s fans like Allison too.

  • PRMari

Now is she going to be on some tv shows this coming week? Please post if you know of any, thanks. I need to find her webpage.

She will be on Good Morning America on Tuesday and on Ellen on Friday. She’ll be interviewed for MTV but we don’t know if that’ll be televised. She also did AOL Sessions, we don’t know yet when those will be released.

If you want her official site: http://www.allisoniraheta.com

I’m not her target demo at all but I have 15 and 17 year old nieces and they both seem to love quite a few songs, including FIBOU, Robot Love, Beat me up, You don’t know me, D is for dangerous and Just like you. They also like Don’t waste the pretty and Holiday. They have only listened to the songs a few times, so expect them to like the other ones when they actually get a chance to listen to more of the album.

  • oceana

John, great analysis of what the next singles might be. And I second your ideas about earplugs. They help a lot at concerts. You can still hear just fine. And you can take them out for the quieter songs.

  • oceana

    Thank you PRMari!

Here is what Dilana posted to her:

“YOU are so smart! i’m PROUD of the young woman you are! so talented, so beautiful! you have nothing but amazing things ahead of you! you have ALL my support. now go out, hold tight and ENJOY the ride!!!

what can i say other than THANX! you’re the ONLY chic i would ever want to have cover my song HOLIDAY! it was tough at 1st, to “let go” of my “baby”, but knowing that YOU will rock it out and give it the love it deserves, warms my soul! BEST of luck to you my fellow rocker chic! you have a beautiful future ahead! xDilanax “

  • AllenTX

BTW, Dilana’s new album is great. You guys should check it out.

    JohnM and PRMari,

Don’t worry. There is no reason for me to let some narrow minded fans determine what I’ll buy or perceive some talents that I already like. For me, it’s all about the music! :)

I love Beat me up, there I said it.

LOL! I love this. Any other confessions, good or bad??

I also share the love for You don’t know me and totally wish it would become the next single. It’s a really well written song and it should be really relatable to teens out there but at the same time it’s just a good song for everyone.

I agree (as you know!). I think this one could be a hit for her. Love the lyrics and the strong chorus. I think it suits her better than Holiday.

BTW, I thought the Ellen show was Dec 3, Thursday. Did it change?

  • smartalek

I’m sorry but I hate all the Kradison and Kradam bullshit. Everyone has their favorites. Kradam was an excuse to choose Kris over Adam IMO. I supported Adam to win, not Kradam or Kradison. That being said, I think Allison is immensely talented and I think she has the potential to light the charts in ways that Adam and Kris can’t. Kris is a boring performer so he did not light up the charts. Adam is much too controversial. Allison has a great voice and neither of those aforementioned drawbacks. That is probably why 19 signed her, thinking her most likely to succeed. This is not intended to completely knock at Kris; what he did worked for a show like AI, it’s just unlikely to go anywhere else. Whereas Allison has the potential to be a pop star. IMO.

  • JohnM

alli lurker, my understanding is that she’s taping Ellen on the 3rd, but it will air on the 4th. Last I checked earlier today, her street team site still refers to it airing on the 3rd — those label sites seem to be the last to get the right info up.

  • alli lurker

Thanks, JohnM. Exciting stuff… I hope everything goes well for her. Really looking forward to this week.

Pretty cool that the link to her album stream is the 2nd most popular link out of this site.

  • PRMari

We’re getting the whole band for GMA, based on their twitter updates. David, Priscilla and Valerie have all tweeted about this week and going to New York. I’m really excited to see the whole band perform live. I’m hoping they do a great job and leave a good impression. I’m also hoping she gets a chance to do more than one song. Promoting the album, she should sing something else beside Friday I’ll be Over U, since that’s not really a representation of what the whole album sounds like.

  • matkojapan

    PRMari

Did they leave any hints? I hope they don’t play the same song for both GMA and Ellen.

It would be strange if they played FIBOU on GMA don’t u think? Who wants to hear that first thing in the morning?

But since they are going full band it could be anything!

  • LoveDaRocker

FIBOU will probably be played at the GMA, given that it is the first single, and GMA usually gets two performances.
Ellen, on the other hand, only gets one performance. I hope its one of the stronger songs.

  • matkojapan

I don’t get GMA here in Japan so I am counting on MJ! I know she will come through! :)

If she gets two performances there, than I can live with FIBOU as one of them I guess

She needs to ditch Friday for Ellen. I like the song but the audience watching that are not tweens!!

  • Rub

She needs to performe Friday first and foremost. It’s a good song, cmon you guys are showing your age. Gotta support the single – no need to abandon ship. There’s also the possibility of a performance on Alexa Chung over at MTV.

  • matkojapan

it’s a good song! but it isn’t something the lesbians watching Ellen are gonna wanna listen to or buy!!

    (it’s a joke people)

  • matkojapan

but in all seriousness, considering Kris’ epic fail in his first week and Allison’s poor sales of her first single so far, isn’t it time for her management to change strategy a wee bit?

if u r gonna play GMA you shouldn’t play FIBUO, just like Adam wouldn’t have played FYE if he had the chance! right? What market are u playing to there?

    what tween watches that?

And first and foremost, Allison must pander to my whims!! lol

  • LoveDaRocker

Rub, I don’t think playing a different song at Ellen is “ditching” FIBOU. matkojapan has a point that Ellen’s audience is not the type that would be crazy about FIBOU, but would probably dig Scars, TI, JLY, or YDKM (wow, so many to chose from) (disclaimer: not because Ellen audience are “lesbians”; my comment is not acceptance of matkojapan’s “lesbian” “joke”).
Another interesting point is that Adam played two songs at the Early Show and none of them was FYE. FYE was not right for the Early Show and, although for different reasons, FIBOU may not be right for Ellen.

ETA: Adam did not play FYE at Letterman’s “Late Night” show (LOL; why not Adam? Kids should be in bed by then :-) )

  • LoveDaRocker

BTW, happy release week to all :-) . I know I have been waiting for this week since “Alone.”

  • Rub

LoveDaRocker in my view, Friday outclasses FYE & LLWD and Ellen loves to dance and features high energy music to kickoff the show. Unless Alli does Holiday(doubtful) then yeah, coz people need to request the song and PDs need to take notice and spin it. Besides, there’s a mv to be pushed. Patience patience. The second tune should be dwtp.

  • justjude

Just listened to the stream. I am so impressed with her first album. I am not worried about her early sales, as she will be among the slow but steady rise. She has some very spinable songs and, possible hits.
My Personal favs are(and I’m not sure of the order yet…Don’t Waste The
Pretty(love it), Scars(deep if not profound), Pieces, Holliday( absolutely lush),and You Don’t Know Me(one for runn’n loop in head)!!!!!
Some are good dance tracks for the clubs. Quite a few are very in sync with teen angst( I do talk to the niece) what isn’t directly voiced, has the atmosphere of the mine fields kids have to negotiate.!!!

  • alli lurker

I’m with you Rub, I have no problem with her doing Friday on both shows. She’ll ROCK it and it’ll be really fun. And a second song on GMA? Yeah – DWTP. Maybe even the acoustic version with Dave. She’ll blow everyone away.

    Can’t wait!!

  • JohnM

Whatever the single is, that’s what you play, everywhere you go. Gets old for the devoted fans, but that’s the way the game is played — you push the single. (And Adam not playing FYE on the Early Show was a special situation — it appears they’ve ditched it as a single already, not to mention that his appearance there was post-AMA damage control — having Mommy along and all.)

And FIBOU is the single, so at this point the assumption is that that’s what she’ll be playing everywhere. On the other hand, I don’t think it’s out of the question that they might switch singles already, given that FIBOU’s airplay seems to be stalled at the moment, but we don’t know what the behind-the-scenes situation is (relationships with radio stations, etc.), and thus I don’t think we have any reason to assume that they are ready to (or should) move on from FIBOU. If they think it’s still viable and just needs time, they’ll stick with it. If they don’t, they’ll move on. Given that she’s essentially a new/unknown artist, unlike Adam because of the super media hype, it’s most likely gonna take a fair bit of time — especially with the Christmas slowdown in adoption of new songs.

matkojapan: considering Kris’ epic fail in his first week

I wouldn’t call Kris’ first week an epic fail at all. I’d call it a bit of a slow start. Given the crappy state of album sales, plus the fact that his single is rising very well on radio, plus the fact that he’s been overshadowed by Adam in the attention department, I don’t think there’s any reason to worry about him at this point. Plus, his sales/airplay performance has nothing to do with Allison’s.

And another point that no one has brought up — FIBOU can be a very different song live than it is on the album. They may have worked up a far more rockin’ arrangement. I think it’s quite possible that the arrangement will give her and the band the opportunity to leave people as blown away as Conan was after Barracuda. And that would both give exposure to the single and show people that she’s a rocker rather than a teeny-bopper.

  • LoveDaRocker

FIBOU can be a very different song live than it is on the album.

    That’s an excellent point.
She blew Conan away, and I am still mad at Slezak for preferring to talk about Dan Carvey appearance on Conan that same night, instead of Allison.
Slezak is making it up with asking Kris and Adam whether they have already pre-ordered Allison’s album in their Realite interviews.

  • Rub

And another point that no one has brought up ‘” FIBOU can be a very different song live than it is on the album.

No one has brought it up? I’ve been saying it for years. If dwtp is any indication of how a live version sounds, theN look out.

  • JohnM

I mentioned that FIBOU seems to be stalled on radio — here are the numbers for last week.

On pop, her rank dropped from 73 to 77. Her spins were exactly the same as the previous week — 104. However, the particularly bad news is that her audience impressions dropped way back down, from 0.181 to 0.102. I imagine that’s because the Memphis station, which has a pretty big market and has been by far the song’s biggest supporter (because of the jingle ball she’s doing there), is dropping back significantly. She got more spins in Las Vegas, which is a bigger market than Memphis, but it obviously wasn’t enough to keep her audience impressions up.

On Hot AC, her rank went up from 162 to 128, on an increase in spins from 6 to 11. Her audience impressions went up from 0.025 to 0.047. So, positive movement, but such small numbers that it’s basically negligible.

  • alli lurker

    Rub
No one has brought it up? I’ve been saying it for years.

Agreed. And me too… I always said she’d kill that song live.

  • JohnM

Rub: No one has brought it up? I’ve been saying it for years.

    Years, huh? ;-)

Sorry. I meant that I didn’t see that specific point brought up in this thread. Maybe I’m blind…

  • LoveDaRocker

Rub: Yes, you have mentioned many times (years? LOL) that Friday would be a good live song. But I didn’t get (as I did from JohnM’s post) the idea of a more rocking arrangement.
For example, to me, Kris’ LLWD sounds exactly the same live than it does on the recording. So, it didn’t’ change my mind one way or the other. Compare that to Kelly Clarkson’s Already Gone, in which her live version is 10 times better than the recording.
If Friday is re-worked a bit to make it more rocking, and she bring’s Barracuda-at-Conan energy to it, it could make a big difference.

  • alli lurker

If Friday is re-worked a bit to make it more rocking, and she bring’s Barracuda-at-Conan energy to it, it could make a big difference.

I think we can always assume that Alli’s live performances will be better than her studio recordings. Did anybody happen to see the ‘Sunday Morning’ show yesterday? They did a piece on Tom Petty. They said he built his reputation on live performances. I think it’ll be the same way for Allison. Hell, its already that way for her… just look at her acoustic performances of Just Like You and Don’t Waste the Pretty.

Soon we’ll all be following her around like the Grateful Dead and comparing how she did different songs in different cities.

She says No One Else is her favorite song on the album, and she’s said before that she can’t wait to do that one live. Maybe she’ll choose that one for GMA? That’s a great wailing song! Heartfelt, as she calls it. It would be fun to have another live performance of a different song to add to our ‘collection’.

  • JohnM

    LoveDaRocker: Hope Z100 adds her.

My wife says they and KIIS are notorious for interviewing people but not adding them. Bleh.

alli lurker: She says No One Else is her favorite song on the album, and she’s said before that she can’t wait to do that one live. Maybe she’ll choose that one for GMA?

I suspect that she’s not the one who got to choose for that. My bet is on DWTP as both the second GMA song (she’d better get two!) and the second single, since that’s the second song mentioned in the promo materials along with FIBOU.

It would be fun to have another live performance of a different song to add to our ‘collection’.

Yes indeed, but even if it’s one we’ve already gotten, it’ll be way different because it’ll be with the full band.

Speaking of No One Else being her favorite (which she mentioned quite a while back along with Holiday), does it strike anyone else as a bit weird that it’s her favorite while DWTP was her least favorite? Now, I typically pay almost no attention to lyrics, so I’m going by just a general impression of what those two songs are about. But when she said to Lyndsey Parker that she wasn’t crazy about DWTP, she mentioned preferring angry/angsty songs — aren’t both DWTP and No One Else kind of, I don’t know, “heartwarming” sorts of “you’re so great” songs? Or is it that I’m totally out to lunch and should just go pay attention to the lyrics before I spout my mouth off??

  • alli lurker

JohnM – You may be right about DWTP (and we know it’ll be fantastic live), time will tell. I’m not a big fan of the DWTP studio recording (love the acoustic), but the younger fans (and you!) seem to like it.

I wouldn’t mind hearing another song from the album, though. I think they could save the next single for a separate promotion. I still want it to be You Don’t Know Me!

  • PRMari

aren’t both DWTP and No One Else kind of, I don’t know, ‘heartwarming’ sorts of ‘you’re so great’ songs?

Maybe she now likes No one else because something in her life has happened that she now feels happy and relates to that song :) She may not be as angry now as she was when she chose the songs, perhaps the girl is happy about something LOL!

  • alli lurker

  • alli lurker

Wow… I just listened to the whole album end to end for the first time on the AOL stream. What an amazing album!! Even Robot Love sounds good to me. I was on my feet for D is for Dangerous. Oh man, I love that song! I got up again for No One Else. I could see a whole stadium of sway bots when she sings that song live! Its so good! I stayed on my feet for Beat Me Up – and let’s just say its a good thing nobody else is here right now… it coulda been embarrassing! And I guess I never thought of You Don’t Know Me as a dance song, but guess what – it is!

So now, hearing it like this… I think I put D is for Dangerous, No One Else, and You Don’t Know Me on equal footing – with You Don’t Know Me as still my pick for the next single or at least *a* single.
