I don’t think her talent is all that raw. She could almost hold her own with anyone even now, and will quickly grow more powerful. She was good with Cindi Lauper, with little time to practice and prepare. A year from now, she would totally hold her own in that situation.

Her talent is indeed prodigious, and can’t be compared to the talent of “the older ones” from this last season. Who among them can compare in terms of singing talent? I’m sorry, but beyond Adam and possibly Kris, I don’t think there is anyone from last season who can even come close. If anything is “sad and crummy” for them it’s that they weren’t born with the kind of talent that Allison has, but that’s life. Few have that kind of luck, if luck it is.

As for marketing, she has the kind of explosive vocal talent that will probably transcend “marketing” ploys. She can probably sing just about anything, and as long as they don’t try to make her into today’s so-called r&b sound, and get her some great songs to sing, she’ll be fine.

There was one truth that I understood after watching Allison’s performances thru Motown: she would get a deal, no matter.

I felt the same way. There is no way record producers didn’t see her talent, even if american idol voters didn’t necessarily get it. I’m just glad she stayed around long enough for more and more voters to open their eyes and to give her long enough to get some of the public recognition she deserves, which will help her sell her first cd.

This isn’t like marketing someone who can barely sing. This is like marketing a rare talent, a Celine or a Janis Joplin or Patsy Cline. The usual rules don’t apply. I just hope that Jive doesn’t screw it up. Even if they do, she will survive a so-so first cd, as did Kelly, and her talent will guarantee her a second, third, and fourth.

Obviously Gold would be Huge! I was thinking at least 300, 000 thousand would have to be sold for her to be considered a success.

I think they need to market her heavily in Latin America and maybe, just MAYBE, a Spanish song on the album would go a long way to help achieve that. hmmmmm..

anyways, I like Allison but I can see her debut album just doing okay, because she is 17 so it’s kinda hard to market her? I remember Jim Parsons ( I think it was him) do a must list thing for EW and basically described why some might not connect with her. Right now she’s too young to really tackle mature content but her voice is too mature for the younger audience. I see Jive signing her up as an investment because I can totally see her blowing up when she gets a little older. I’m anxious to get her album later this year but I would have also been totally happy if they took their time with this and waited until she was 18 to release it. I know age is just a number but still..

For the performers on the show it is not so much about competition as it is about showcasing their talents. Kris showed a gift for song arrangement and an inventive take on pop music. Adam showed great range and an ability to make moments with his voice and performance skills. Allison showed a powerful, soulful voice and a personality and stage presence completely devoid of bubblegum, something utterly missing from every other artist her age. That is why they got record deals, and why they will get promo.

The record industry may seem strange and frightening but the decisions made tend to be rational. There is a reason these three got signed and, let’s say for instance, Gokey, Rounds, and MacIntyre did not.

What verisimilitude? I followed AI first time this year and saw none. The show is disgusting. My my interest was inadvertently captured by the raw performing talent that I saw in the girl. There was one truth that I understood after watching Allison’s performances thru Motown: she would get a deal, no matter. I explicitly stated so in this blog at the time. The only “vying” is for the guaranteed contract for the winner. No one in their right mind would expect 19 to pass on a contestant who had major commercial potential just because the TV viewers did not cast votes in a preferred manner. No contestant with brains enough to walk into the final 10 would think otherwise, either. It makes no sense.

Her shelf life? Who knows. I assume she is very happy. I assume she will continue as a fulfilled and successful musician whether the current arrangement pans out or not. Your bitter presumptions and comments are just that, so I have a tiny grain of salt here and wonder what kind of bitter experiences you have encountered. Please don’t tell; I’ll just wonder

I detest the show – hope it does fail.

I actually feel slightly ill when I see young kids trying to break into the entertainment business. Let’s face it ‘ ¦. it very very rarely turns out well’ ¦

Yeah, and I’m guessing since she was playing the “furniture store” gigs from the age of seven, that lurking in the shadows is a stage parent of some sort. Unless Allison receives major payola radio play from Jive, I suspect that her “musical career” has about the shelf life of a carton of cottage cheese during a brown out. Who knows, though? Perhaps, she will be this years E. Yamin and get exactly that.

For a person so young she has clearly worked very hard for her spot. She doesn’t come from a “teen pop factory” like Disney. She doesn’t have a famous parent. She just has great talent and uncommon self-possession.
