Allison Iraheta took over Radio Disney on Thursday (Jan 7). Check out this three part interview, courtesy of the groovy peeps at Allieholics!

Allison talks about her short attention span, singing to random people when she was 5 or 6, and the fact she’s not a morning person.   Plus,   don’t bother her when she’s eating!   You’ve been warned.

Part 1

Part 2 (An awesome acoustic performance of “Friday I’ll Be Over You” and Just Like You”)

Part 3 (acoustic performance of   “Don’t Waste the Pretty” starts at about the 2:22 mark)

lawwwww I saw that boy and I was like… Adam looks weird.

  • iluvai

Weird Adam look alike, no thanks!

  • JohnM

Hilarious that Radio Disney has an edited version of FIBOU — the line “Don’t know what I was on” is too racy for them, so it’s remixed so that she repeats “Who are you when I’m gone” instead. Ahh, Disney — sucking the life out of the universe for the better part of a century!

Nice to get an acoustic FIBOU, partial though it is. And this Don’t Waste The Pretty was excellent.

For those who missed it elsewhere, I posted my mp3 of the FIBOU / Just Like You medley here if you want to download it:

I screwed up and didn’t get DWTP.

  • JohnM

Gee, nice to see people giving Adam credit for copying David Immerman’s look…

  • alli lurker

I just love Allison acoustic, especially Just Like You. I listened to that one twice and got a little misty both times. Very nice. Thanks Allison.

  • MollyAnnMay

Sure, Simon, this girl’s got no personality whatsoever. *eyeroll*

That was really enjoyable – thanks for posting, MJ.

And thanks JohnM for the mp3.

I love acoustic FIBOU. And those opening lines in “Just Like You” made me catch my breath. I will never, ever get over the beautiful tone in Allison’s voice. It gets me every time I hear her, especially live. What a gift. And I love the way she modulates her delivery to fit the acoustic sound, but never the passion she puts into the performance. Yay Allison!

  • alison8701

That guy was like, crackin up at Allison. That’s good though.

  • PRMari

Gee, nice to see people giving Adam credit for copying David Immerman’s look…

Oh yeah, Dave Immerman is such a copycat…except for the guitar since you know, Adam can’t play. Seems we can’t escape he who shall not be named.

Fantastic acoustic FIBOU, now I wish she’d do the entire thing. Her voice sounds great in all songs and that Just like you was great as well, great emotional delivery. I think that Don’t waste the pretty is her best acoustic rendition so far, she really got into it and did some changes in the phrasing that really worked well.

The DJs were really liking her, she just seems like such an energetic little thing.

    Always love acoustic Allison. :)

Weird Adam look alike, no thanks

Dude, I’m pretty sure that neither Adam nor Dave Immerman invented dyed black hair and neck scarves, lol. By those standards, they’re both copying some random guy from decades ago whenever black hair dye was invented. :)

  • oceana

LOL Adam doesn’t have a patent on that look and I don’t think he looks anything like Adam anyway.

  • YankeeFan08

He’s definitely copying Adam’s hair but the rest of him looks nothing like Adam.

  • JohnM

    YankeeFan08: He’s definitely copying Adam’s hair

No, he’s not. As I recall, he’s had that look since before anyone knew who that guy from AI8 is. And anyway, as isisdagmar said, they’re both copying previous looks.

We now return you to your regular thread…

  • isisdagmar

And anyway, as isisdagmar said, they’re both copying previous looks.

And I don’t mean that I consider them copycats–it’s just that fluffy, black-dyed hair isn’t exactly something that just burst onto the scene, so saying that one black-dyed guy is copying another black-dyed guy just doesn’t make sense, logically. It’s a style that’s been around for a while, and they both wear it well. :)

We now return you to your regular thread

    lol, yeah. :)

I still have issues with the lyrics and the message of the song, but I so, so want an acoustic version or a live, full-band version of Beat Me Up. It takes Allison’s voice into the depths of her register and I absolutely love that.

So, could I ask (and I hope it’s obvious enough that I love Allison that this is clearly a genuine question and not concern-trolling)–how is Allison doing? I know that her single hasn’t taken off, but I don’t know enough about radio to know if that means it’s dead and they should move on, or if they’re still building it. I remember LLWD being declared dead and now it’s doing really well, so is this part of the process, or is it time to go to a second single? And Allison isn’t selling a ton, but I don’t know if that’s because she’s not nearly as famous as the guys and therefore has a longer way to go to establish herself, or if it’s actually a problem.

Jive seems invested in Allison and I wouldn’t be surprised if they would have long-term plans for her, but I don’t know much about this kind of thing and I was just wondering. :)

Some of us need to go out more often. The shows contestants aren’t cutting edge by any standards, unless it’s our only view to the outside world, in which case Adam would be the pioneer in emo. That style of course is almost antiquated – getting old- and there are newer ones idol viewers haven’t seen yet.

Allison’s voice is almost in tiptop form after the grueling tour and studio recordings that heavily stressed her vocals. Rest is the best cure. Just like You the song transitioning from Friday is beautiful. Wonder if Dave arranged it? He should be the director.

  • oceana

thank you for the dose of reality and common sense

  • allisonfanahtic

<<—–ALLISON thread geeeeeez haha…anyways, so the performances were amazing as usual and I laughed SO much listening to the interview. She's super funny and has great comedic timing haha! Anyways, I hope she goes on tour soon 'cause I would love to see/hear each and every song live and then as an acoustic…

  • MaryS-NJ

Allison… I <3 you. She cracks me up and makes me smile. Acoustic versions of her songs are fabulous.

And I for one am very, very happy that Allison was featured on Radio Disney. Singles that get played on Radio Disney tend to sell well, even if they are musical dreck (which Allisons songs are not). I don't know if it's a cause and effect but I think it's great exposure to the younger demographic.

  • JohnM

isisdagmar: So, could I ask (and I hope it’s obvious enough that I love Allison that this is clearly a genuine question and not concern-trolling)–how is Allison doing? Don’t worry about asking — I know you’re “legit”. :-) Regarding the single, my feeling is that there’s no way for us to know whether it’s dead or not at this point. On one hand, it’s certainly been out more than long enough to have taken off, and it hasn’t. On the other hand, plenty of singles take this long, and longer, before they take off, so it’s still possible that this one could too. My favorite current example is Owl City’s platinum single Fireflies, which was ruling the charts around November or so — it was released in July.

Her single has been sitting around #70 or so on the Top 40 chart for a long time, pretty much stagnating. No stations have added it in the last month (which included the holiday freeze, of course). But Jive’s publicist tweeted a few weeks ago that the lack of December adds was normal and “all looks good for January” or something like that. So who knows — maybe Jive knows that some influential stations are planning to add it this month — maybe the publicist was talking about Radio Disney adding it, which they appear to be doing now. Anyway, without the inside info that Jive has, I don’t think we can make any pronouncements about it either way.

As for her album sales, I strongly believe that her lower numbers are the result of her lower level of fame than the guys have. Frankly, her first-week sales of 32K were higher — significantly — than I expected, and I was pleasantly surprised by her numbers through Christmas, given that she has negligible radio presence.

I think you hit the nail on the head in talking about Jive investing in her for the long term. When they signed her, they said that they knew early on in the season that they wanted her, and they didn’t care how far she got on the show. That means that they weren’t counting on her bringing a big AI fanbase with her — they were expecting to have to build her as an unknown new artist. So, I don’t think there’s any reason to worry at this point. Course, for all I know, maybe Jive is freaked out! :-D

  • allisonfanahtic

these performances were exquisite and her interview was hilarious! She is so funny! Hopefully, she’ll be going on tour eventually..I would love to see her perform a live acoustic set!

  • Rub

JohnM, are you sure you don’t have dwtp around somewhere? Yours is the better quality.

  • JohnM

Yeah, I’m sure. I’m also sure I’m an idiot for not getting it.

  • LoveDaRocker

She is hilarious! She seems more and more comfortable on each interview. There’s a bright future there. Pretty cool that she seems to have such a great relationship with her mom.
And, of course, her performances were great. No surprise there.

  • LindaT

I love this girl! Great singer, and a firecracker personality. I hope Jive doesn’t give up on her. She’s so talented, I really want her to be successful.

There’s no need for everyone to freak about saying he should not be named looks like the guy in the picture. This IS an idol blog, and he was the contestant with the most exposure last season.I don’t think it’s that deep, but I just want to say I really feel for alli fans because of “he who should not be named” interfering in any thread. sorry-

    back on topic…

I really hate that she’s doing radio disney.especially with her ” edgy”(for ai lol) hair I don’t think she’s marketable to 8 yr olds.I think she might do better if she was presented more like paramore or ksm.JMO
I really hope she has a long career.I live her-she’s the most “fun” By far.plus, she’s an amazing singer and hilarious.like on AI reruns I was reminded how much I live her when I heard papa was a rollin stone.and I loled when she joke about not cutting herself on mj week.she’s pretty damn awesome…just sayin’

  • jordison

Perhaps for those of us worrying that releasing FIBOU as a single and appearing on Radio Disney will forever define Allison and limit her artistic growth, we should ask: Is the clip below representative of the full body of work of these guys, both collectively and individually?

A message to the Allison faithful:

This is the third season for The Big Bang Theory. My wife and I fell in love with the show from the first episode, but were sure it would flop. No chance a show about nerd scientists lacking social skills would make it on network TV. Even though the writing and characters were brilliant the show didn’t fit any mold in the world of sitcom. At first the ratings were dismal. We would tell everybody we knew about the show, but it never seemed to get any more popular.

However, the producers and network had a lot of faith in the show and stuck with it – just because it was good and they felt in the long run it would catch on.

Well, now in the third season it has won a People’s Choice Award and is one of the top rated shows on TV.

So, let’s hope that Allison becomes the Big Bang Theory of the music industry. (Although sooner than 3 years would be nice)

For all Alliholics, Alliologists, Alliwhatevers – a must see!

    MTV Buzzworthy Blog fan interview.

This is the Allison I wish we had seen on NYE and Kimmel. Best picture of Alli ever! Great little interview.

    That’s our girl!

    Video!

    No Just Like You? :(

Wow, she really put something extra into DWTP (even though she said she just rolled out of bed prior to the interview). At the end when everybody’s clapping and wootin she looks like she’s thinking ‘whatevs, no big deal.’ lol.

  • alli lurker

I really like Friday acoustic, too… it sounds more heartfelt and less in-your-face. I like that. A lot.

  • PRMari

Why on Earth would they edit Don’t waste the pretty cutting precisely the chorus with the name of the song?

  • alli lurker

This is the Allison I wish we had seen on NYE and Kimmel.

Me too. I love the look and the ‘realness’ of it all, she really seems like someone you can relate to, very cool. I think she did this before Kimmel and NYE, when she was in NYC in early December.

They have other pictures that you may have missed when you were gone, jordison. They’re all good.

  • alli lurker

Why on Earth would they edit Don’t waste the pretty cutting precisely the chorus with the name of the song?

I was clicking around on the other vids and it looked like nothing went too much longer than 2:30, so maybe they had a time limit.

They did add some JLY to the Friday vid, though!

  • wickedelphie10

Don’t know if I commented on this yet, but Allison is amazing! Her voice is incredible! And I really love the FIBOU acoustic!

  • allisonfanahtic

she answered my question on the mtv buzzworthy thing!! So freakin’ cool! :)

Houses and cars are not cheap and not everyone can buy it. Nevertheless, loans was created to help different people in such hard situations.
