Just want to make something clear. I don’t know what Kevin Rudolf’s intentions were when he wrote Beat me up and my interpretation of the song doesn’t make it any more appropriate. I’m just saying what I get from the lyrics and the general vibe of the song. There are some lines in that song that are just incredibly suggestive and not exactly of physical abuse.

LoveDaRocker, the phrase “hit me up” is slang for calling someone, asking them to get together, or things along those lines — that one doesn’t have any negative meaning at all if you know the slang. Goes back at least to the 70s, as I remember it from when I was a teenager or college student. (Unfortunately, not everyone knows the slang, not just you non-native-English speakers — I had to explain it to my 13-year-old — she thought it was a violent reference too.)

As for “fix me up”, I’m not sure why you highlighted “fix”. I think “fix me up” just means “make me feel better” or something like that.

I’m not inclined to discuss this whole thing at length, at least at the moment, and don’t have time to anyway right now, but I wanted to pass along those explanations/comments.

ETA: Do you want to email mj that Rock-n-Racquets info so that she’ll post something about it?

And hopefully this will give us another thread on Sunday!

Maybe is how kids speak these days. And, English is not my first language. So there might be a semantics issue. But …

BTW, I interned one summer in a Legal Aid Office, and also worked during a semester at a DA’s Office. Worked directly with Domestic Violence cases. So maybe I am more sensitive to these types of references than most.

I swear, that’s the last time I post anything critizicing the song, unless solicited .

As I said in a previous post, I am fine with it. Its well written. It says what it says. But the references to domestic violence are intentional.

I’m going to be honest with you. I don’t get domestic violence from that song, I get emotional roller coaster and rough sex. There, I said it.
