Check out the bonus track from the Japanese version of Allison Iraheta’s debut album, Just Like You. via alliholics.com.  Allison and Kris Allen’s albums were released in Japan today.

It’s called “One More Reason” and I love it! It’s got a catchy, irresistible girl-group vibe. Check it out below:

    Im digging the song!

  • JohnM

As I said in the headlines thread, it sounds like another Kevin Rudolf song and more Top 40 than anything else on her album.

  • Pam

    Nice. I like.

  • sunny2

I really like this song, so much better that Friday I’ll Be Over You. I can’t figure out why that was the first single.

  • windmills

Why didn’t they put this on Allison’s album instead of Robot Love or especially Beat Me Up?? I know Beat Me Up is insanely catchy but I didn’t buy the album because of the disturbing implications of Beat Me Up even though I knew Allison meant it as emotional not physical and it wasn’t meant to be about abuse.

This would’ve made a better lead single than FIBOU too. It’s much more infectious pop. I still don’t like the electro stuff but this is good bubblegummy fun.

  • sbalk017

Love it, I want it on my Ipod now… I agree that it would have made a better lead single than FIBOU but I can see how it didn’t make her album… it’s kinda bubblegum-pop… not that there is anything wrong with that!

  • Kate8

It’s too bad that they didn’t put this song on her album. It is one of the better songs IMO.

  • Junior

Wow, i’m sooo not feelin’ this. And it’s got that pro-tools, electronic-voice thing I just hate.

  • rayni

Yeah, what Junior said. Why do they want to do that to Allison’s beautiful voice? Are they trying to make her sound ‘current’ or something? I hate that sound.

  • zuper

ITA Junion/rayni. I wish they would just let her rock out and quit trying to smooth out her voice in an attempt to fit her him the teen group.

  • tinawina

The song is cute and catchy, but I can see why it wasn’t on the album. It doesn’t seem to fit with the rest of the songs chosen to me.

  • LoveDaRocker

It’s good, but not for JLY. I think it would have shifted the balance even more towards pop, and I don’t think that’s where she wants to be.

    awesome!!!

  • JohnM

sbalk017: it’s kinda bubblegum-pop… not that there is anything wrong with that!

Oh yes there is! :-D I’m very glad this song wasn’t a single, because it does have too much of the mindless-Top-40-electro-beat feel to it, and I don’t want people to put Allison in that box. I think it’s a pretty good song underneath — it’s got some good harmony, and it’s fun and definitely catchy, and I can imagine the band doing a good job with it live, substituting some good electric guitar for the synth to turn it into more of a rock-style song. But anything that reminds me of current rhythmic Top 40 fare is mighty tough to get past.

Frankly, when I was worrying last summer that Jive would screw up her album by making it too poppy, this is kind of what I was afraid of. It’s weird, because I sort of like this, but not for Allison. After a few listens, I don’t hear in this song what makes her so special.

I like the song, and I like Allison, but I’m not sure I like them together. Allison just doesn’t have a girl group/bubblegum type of voice to me. I prefer her on meatier, more rockish songs. I’m glad there’s no chance of this being a single. It’s fun, but not where I see her core audience being.

  • Judee

OMG! I Looove this! So catchy and fun!

  • matkojapan

I can see why this was added to the Japanese bonus track. It has a very J-pop feel to it. I like it, but not for Allison as well.

Any idea if her or Kris will be coming to Japan to do some promo?

  • ppwars

I bet Japan will like her: big round eyes, flashy/audacious appearance & personality, J-pop sound bonus track( as mentioned above).

  • Rub

This song is great candidate for a remix.

I like it, it would make a decent b-side for the US. With the right video, one that would feature Allison – similar to Orianthi’s According To You – in a more natural environment with intermittent live performance shots, would work beautifully. For Japan at least. It adds variety to her repertoire. Her album isn’t very together by any stretch, with three to four tracks throwing it off. When I think of a well sequenced album with an introduction and an ending(without going into anything unknown), the Floyd records come to mind for instance. With the same direction in mood and message, with a psychedelic rock feel underneath bluesy riffs, between those parameters, Floyd has championed story telling rock records. Other bands like NiNs, AFI, Velvet etc., have had success as well with excellent sequenced albums. Allis album is a nice little introductory jaunt, and we’ll see better put together records as she matures, Im sure of that.

My opinion on Orianthi is that she’s taking the Michael Jackson association all the way to the bank. Her guitar playing is very generic – nothing I havent seen from a female – with a dime-a-dozen vocals, pretty face with an anthem similar to Alli’s. And, just want to put this out there, Jennifer Batten(MJs 80s-90s guitarist) has the killer finger tap with plenty of chops & licks to give Orianthi some, that she normally used to make the yearly top list guitarist of all time. Granted, Orianthi is still a young woman with some time left to get better. But normally by that age, you either have or you dont – in terms of ability to be the kind of guitarist that are written for the books.

Its a good thing Allison doesn’t play guitar full time. I like my bands with a dedicated axeman for lead and another for rhythm, to give the frontman room and time to throw it down.
Anyway, I like this song better than Orianthi’s According to You.

I was thinking this has the kind of poppy sound that might be very popular in Japan.

I find the song very catchy and could do well commercially, but agree that it doesn’t fit with the JLY album, and is not the direction (bubblegum pop) that Allison wants to go career wise.

Wow – what a Rub Rant!

I agree about the vocals, but the guitar playing? – you do have high standards! And all this time I’ve been fantasizing about an Orianthi – Allison tour. You just shot the air out of my balloon!

Its a good thing Allison doesn’t play guitar full time.

I don’t think we have to worry about that anytime soon.

Anyway, I like this song better than Orianthi’s According to You.

Funny, I think of According to You as being to Orianthi’s album as FIBOU is to Allison’s.
BTW, for those who’ve said their worst nightmare would be a Miley – Allison tour, I’ll top you one. How about a Justin Bieber – Allison tour? Yikes!!!

  • Mtlfan

Good generic pop song in my opinon.
Like much this sound with Allison voice

  • Rub

Hey jordison, I wouldn’t mind an Orianthi-Allison collaboration, but as her lead guitarist. That’d be awesome. I like Dave – I think he’s very underrated.
I never endorced an All/Miley tour, simply a friendship only if Allison established it. I think Miley was reaching out to Alli. Bieber, no.

I think there’d be room for one more guitarist. :)
Seriously, I was thinking of separate acts on a tour, with the possibility of just a little crossover, or jamming, thrown in.
And I would really pay money for that.

  • chicksineggz

The song isn’t bad. But I don’t like the fact that it’s so overproduced. For some artists I don’t mind this, but Allison’s got a great voice that just doesn’t come across properly in her album.

  • JohnM

I agree with a lot of you, the song doesnt fit her Album!! BUT WHY IS IT STUCK IN MY HEAD??? LOL… I love the song!

Well this song is a bonus track for the Japanese market, and, in the opinion of matkojapan, this style may be very popular in Japan.

As for the album in general being overproduced, I think that Allison’s voice comes across really well in a number of the songs – especially Trouble Is. It’s funny, many people have said they liked Scars because it’s so stark and simple. But now that it’s being released as a single, many others have commented it’s going to have trouble because it’s “boring”, under-produced, etc. So, who knows?

Anyway, I agree that this is a catchy song, but one that really doesn’t do anything to highlight the special qualities of Allison’s voice.

  • allisonfanahtic

I would’ve taken this track over Robot Love on the album any day! I want it in my ipod nowwww!!..

  • chessguy99

Pure teen girl power pop. They love stuff like that over in Asian markets.

  • briguyx

Great catchy song. If anything, Allison’s voice is too deep for it. It would be better served by a sweeter voice…

  • adamisthemanfan

well I actually think this is more radio friendly than FIBOU, which is much too “teen-bop punk” imo..I could totally imagine hearing this song on the radio, even though it is a pop song, it still has more musical integrity than the Friday song (because its what you get when they try to turn a pop song into a rock song, although for some reason I think in Spanish it doesn’t sound as bad)
this song should have been on the album…oh well I am no marketing genius..I just got with my instincts which tell me this song is better.

  • Paulie

I’m really digging this track. It has a dance-y, head-boppy feel to it that I love (same way why I flove “Beat Me Up” with its chest-pumping beat. LOL).

It does sound too bubblegum than the rest of Allison’s songs in the album (and I could totally imagine a synchronized choreo for a video of this :P ) but I agree with the comments that this fits perfectly in the current JP/Asian pop music scene.

ETA: Do we know who wrote/produced this? Just curious. :)

Also, I wish Kris’s JP version of the album has this same awesome bonus track. Instead it has… NoBo. :(

  • JohnM

Paulie: Do we know who wrote/produced this?

I haven’t seen any credits for it, but I’d bet money that it’s Kevin Rudolf — and I haven’t bet money on anything since 1972!

  • PRMari

I thought it was common knowledge that it was a Kevin Rudolf song. It sure sounds like him. I like the song, I like the lyrics, specially the “one more reason why I hate you” line but it’s a little too poppy for Allison’s album, so I see why it didn’t make the cut. This does not allow her to showcase her voice, even less than FIBOU and it certainly isn’t anything special nor does it stand out. Say what you want about Beat me up but that song is the shizzz and it does something with Allison’s voice and delivery that this song does not capture. It’s a nice, cute, average pop song that I probably wouldn’t listen to if it wasn’t performed by Allison.

  • matkojapan

“Also, I wish Kris’s JP version of the album has this same awesome bonus track. Instead it has… NoBo. ”

    OH NO!

Btw, anybody know why Japanese releases have bonus tracks? Is it only for here? Not that I’m complaining!! :)

  • matkojapan

    ok

I just answered my own question! :)

    If anybody else is curious…

  • Rub

No doubt this should’ve been the US single instead of FIBOU. Very catchy. Someone said its got a little “Take it or Leave it” in it, and it certainly does. I happen to be a big fan of “Take it or Leave it.”

This track though, its got the kind of electronics that’s hitting hard today. I wouldn’t mind if David Guetta played with this a bit. I prefer Guetta over Redone or Rudolf and the tracks that he produced aren’t bad at all, like “I Gotta Feeling” and “Sexy Chick”. If we’re gonna go dance, thats the man to talk to.

Hey matkojapan, you mean to tell me Kris got NoBo as a bonus track? lol
    thats messed up.

    Rub,

Paulie posted that about NoBo. I for the life of me can`t figure out the quote function on this thing! :(

    But yeah, pretty messed up!

  • JohnM

PRMari: I thought it was common knowledge that it was a Kevin Rudolf song.

Is it common knowledge? Was it mentioned in an interview or something while I was out of commission for a few weeks? I mean, I “knew” it was him as soon as I heard the song, but I haven’t seen anything official about it.

it’s a little too poppy for Allison’s album, so I see why it didn’t make the cut.

I pretty much agree with everything here. But I have a couple of twists:

I think there’s a good song underneath this, one that could be done quite well live in a rock style.

About this song vs. Beat Me Up — you’re right on the mark that BMU showcases her voice better. And it’s got really great sound production, and the guitar riff is fantastic of course. But I kind of see the two songs as opposite sides of the same coin. BMU has a better verse; One More Reason has a better chorus and overall better harmony. BMU has better sound, but I typically find my mind wandering before it’s over because there’s just not much there; I think OMR has better underlying potential to be reworked into a better style, but as it stands now, the dance-pop production is a huge drawback. In the end, they’re both fun confections, but not terribly satisfying.

  • JohnM

Rub: No doubt this should’ve been the US single instead of FIBOU.

Not. You’re certainly right that it’s got the kind of production that’s big in so many songs on Top 40. But so many songs on Top 40 are garbage. Although I like this song well enough (more than the crap on Top 40), and although I suspect it would have had a better shot at Top 40 success than FIBOU, I don’t want Allison to get pegged as another artist who does that kind of stuff.

And while I kind of understand why that person compared it to Take It Or Leave It, I disagree with the comparison. That one, though it’s a pop song, is much more rocking, and it shows off her power so much more than this one.

    Well, let’s not.

  • PRMari

Well John, tell us how you really feel ;)

I agree with most of what you said though. I like the song, it’s stuck in my head right now but that’s because I love Allison. This is just not who she is. We all know she could sing just about anything, that doesn’t mean it’ll make her happy and an entire album of songs like this one would’ve been very sad. It just doesn’t show off many of the things that make Allison so special. I do enjoy the lyrics an awful lot, being another angry “girl-power” song and I generally enjoy the sound, but it’s not the type of song for which I’d like Allison to be known.
