Listen to these new tracks from American Idol, Season 8,  Allison Iraheta for the Skaist Tyler fashion line.  The tunes include a haunting cover of Massive Attack’s “Paradise Circus”  plus, “Son Of A Preacher Man,  “Self Control”, “California and “You Don’t Own Me”.

The arrangements are spare, allowing Allison’s raspy voice to shine. Listen below.

I love Allison’s voice. I hope she finds her rightful place in the music industry soon.

She’s so good when she has good songs to sing like these. My lament is the same as always…somebody please give this girl some decent original material to record.

Ah – love that Joni Mitchell song and Mitchell herself (her album “Blue” one of the best ever).  And Allison did a really good job with the song.  She has such a distinctive voice.

I don’t think of Allison as ‘a rocker’, that is simply the box she was put in during Idol. She has evolved and changed quite a bit recently, she can do much more than just rock as seen here with these wonderful covers. Her voice is just so good.

BTW, these were produced by Matthew Hager, who along with David Immerman (on the guitar) has been working with Allison for a while. They’ve been writing and recording new original music too.

Its not really about material at this point, she is recording some solid material. She took her shot and for various reasons not all her fault it fizzled.  Unless she get’s a major label again or some major opportunity, she isn’t going to make any big comeback unfortunately but at least she will be releasing music.

Allison has such a gorgeous, rich tone to her voice. I hope when she does come out with new music at some point, it’ll take advantage of her talent.

Blue is on of my favorite albums and Allison does a really nice cover of California. Heck, all these covers are great.  I liked Allison on season 8, I just haven’t kept up with her.  And her chihuahua looks almost exactly like mine!

Allison remains one of my fav “new artists” of this last decade- find her vocals to be stunning, raw and gutsy, takes me emotionally to a sweet sweet space which so many others with a more manicured voice can never do
