Allison Iraheta mugs for the camera with Good Charlotte’s Benji Madden after finishing a recording session with Daughtry producer, Howard Benson earlier today.

Of course, there were tweets:

@Allison4Realzzz: Met @benjaminmadden today after a session with Howard Benson!! Ohhhh shnaaapppsss!! http://twitpic.com/kn4mk

@benjaminmadden: http://twitpic.com/kn2tt – Always nice when real American Idols stop by the studio!! Me and at Allison4realzzz @joelmadden & @nicolerichie wish they were here!

Yesterday she was hard at work with Greg Wells (Katy Perry, OneRepublic, Kelly Clarkson) who twittered: @greg_wells: @allison4realzzz KILLS IT on the mic…wow!

Listen to Allison’s spunky new single, “Friday I’ll Be Over U” HERE. Her debut album comes out on December 1. Can’t wait to hear Rocker Girl’s record…

Kinda ironic considering this guy bashed Kelly Clarkson some years ago because she didn’t “pay her dues” and get into the music industry “the real way.”

Maybe he’s done some growing up since then.

Oof that first pic is so dark! Who took it? Scott MacIntyre?? [sorry...] HI MJ! KISSES!!!!!!!!!

  • PRMari

She looks like she can’t believe she’s there, so cute. Howard Benson, that’s exciting news. I remember he praised her during the season and said he could make a great rock album with her. Here’s hoping!

  • smokeyvera

jambajim, like Jim C on MJ’s – who are you? Are you the real jambajim? Halfie and hwc is this you?

  • SparklesATL

I wish she would stop making those stupid faces in pictures. She’s such a pretty girl but I don’t think she’s comfortable with that.

    look at her eyes…so tired…..:(

  • adamisthemanfan

LOL yeah she makes that face a lot but hey she’s 17…shes trying to act her age and she’s working her butt off on finishing her album…
looking forward to a colab from these two

I wish she would stop making those stupid faces in pictures. She’s such a pretty girl but I don’t think she’s comfortable with that.

I think that might be part of it. It’s also that she is 17 and I think still can’t believe this is all happening to her.
Glad she’s working with some great people. The CD is gonna KILL.

  • PRMari

I wish she would stop making those stupid faces in pictures.

I wish people would stop wishing she stops making those faces :)

Yes, she is a pretty girl but she’s also a 17 year old goofball and it’s not like these are professional studio pictures anyway. She’s just trying to have fun while at work, no biggie.

As long as she keeps making great music she can make whatever faces she wants IMO.

  • Rub

It seems a lot of the rock guys dig her(including Joel Madden, Nicole Richie)
This production might be where she separates herself from this years idol pack. A little more distortion on those guitars and possibly a little more soul to her voice with some punch. Even, maybe, a sustained chromatic scale vocal delivery would be nice.

    I love “Friday I’ll be over U”
If some of the folks here don’t like it, then is gonna do real well. Jordin’s “Battlefiled” is a testament to the fact.

    JohnM, your thoughts?

Her studio pictures are great and her fun not working pictures are pure joy.If peeps don’t like her faces well its ok at least its not about what she’s wearing.

Yeah, I like that she’s a goofball, but than I like goofiness in general, so there you go.

I like her single and I like her…outside of her Tweets that is. Her Tweets are insanely obnoxious to me. I’m all for her pulling funny faces until the end of time if that meant she would step the hell back from the metaphorical caffine while Tweeting. Fair trade? I think so.

Eh, I don’t mind them. Not as bad as Adam’s pout face.

BTW, I just bought “Friday I’ll Be Over U” at Amazon- an MP3 download.
It’s clearer and sharper with a bitrate of 240 kbps (VBR)
And, it now resides on my iphone after a quick sync.

I have decided that the first thing to go after you turn into an adult is an off the wall sense of humor and being able to see the joy in the ridiculous….also the ability to understand sarcasm and snark seems to dissapear, too.

Ali, you are a breath of fresh air in an uptight world. Keep it up little one…you only get to be 17 once (I’ve been counting backwards for years and years and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do the Benji Button thingy).

  • beckysspam

How cool about Howard Benson! I can’t wait to hear what they come up with! I’m especially excited since he said he thought he could make a good rock album with Allison!

And I love that Allison doesn’t feel the need to put on a generic “pretty” smile in every picture. She makes goofy faces and is hilarious, imo. Her personality shines through on so many pictures.

And HI JIM!!! You’re awesome! :D

    So are you, MJ! :D

  • ppwars

The faces? It’s a thing with many of the ung uns these days in addition to other factors mentioned.

Alli’s new single is available on Amazon for download NOW !!!

Along with the good news of her session today came this early morning tweet from her A&R.

    1. Heard a great new Allison song this morning and My 13 yr old son is shaving now…and that was all before 8am!

It appears things are moving along nicely for Alli.

  • becausehelives

yeah it’s the same silly face in all her pictures. I wonder if she will stop all this over goofyness when she hits 18 in April. I certainly hope she changes her twitter style by then too.

  • becausehelives

Eh, I don’t mind them. Not as bad as Adam’s pout face.

    actually it’s worse .

  • ppwars

I used to get worried that my son was not acting out enough; that he wasn’t rebelling enough according to the texts. Then he always proved that I had worried for naught. Alli should be allowed to get thru this stage of her life as normally as possible, which includes a lot of goofiness, sleep overs, chocolate cake, and doggie dress-up, & stuff.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I love Lava Girl’s spirit. Can’t wait to hear more new music.

I’m confused about the single. Amazon not iTunes? I thought it was a couple of weeks before it was going to be released? Wonder if this is a mistake? No matter, I bought it. Heh.

Her voice is unmistakingly her own, IMO.

  • Truthiness

Glad that Allison is working with some more rock types. I fully expect that she’s have some more rock songs on her album, as opposed to her more pop-y single. And that we’ll get to hear the lower register and more rock voice so many of us love.

  • ppwars

I SPENT MY $ AT AMAZON today. LOLz. It’s there, quality = 256Kbs. NICE!

The clip played at 128Kbs. The downloaded version has a sample rate of 256Kbs – twice the RESOLUTION of the clip. Just as in a photo, there is more information in the higher resolution recording. Make sense?

  • Rub

ppwars, I know what you mean. Thanx anyway.
Except, my downloaded Amazon version is at 240kbpsVBR (Variable Bit Rate) which is actually better for certain sections of the track.

You know what else? The Itunes version is at 256kbps and 3:15 duration vs 3:16 Amazon.
Needless to say, I bought both.

She’s just a goofy, comical, humor-loving child. She’s not a “lady” or a princess. She’s down to earth and funloving. She is what she is, at this time in her life.

    Rub, you’re killin’ me! :-D

    JohnM, your thoughts?

Thanks for asking. I’m addicted to the song. Can’t get it out of my head, and fortunately in this case that doesn’t annoy me — we’ve all had plenty of experiences where that is annoying.

My first reaction, listening to the crappy-quality clip on a crappy-quality phone speaker, was “generic Kelly clone”. But with the higher-quality Popeater stream on Monday, and then with the Amazon mp3 Wednesday, I increasingly heard more of Allison’s signature sound. There’s not as much of her unique quality as there should be, but there’s quite a bit, more than in almost any of her AI studio tracks. And given that I was afraid Jive would over-produce her sound into oblivion, I’m happy with it.

I don’t know if you saw my post in the headlines thread with this review from about.com:
    http://top40.about.com/od/singles/gr/allisonirahetafriday.htm
I especially connected with this part, which really captures how I feel about the chorus:

She could do loud and bratty with the best of them, but there was always an underlying sweetness and vulnerability to her singing as well. Here the chorus could certainly be sung in an angry, accusatory fashion. However, instead Iraheta’s vocals have an almost sweet and wistful quality. It makes “Friday I’ll Be Over U” sound more like an expansive song instead of simply a diatribe.

The song itself isn’t anything amazing, of course — just a pretty good pop song. But the chorus is rockin’. And I think the song works on multiple levels — you can just bop to it if you’re into bopping with the radio, or you can listen carefully and hear a good bit of her beautiful tone and impassioned delivery. Given the low expectations I made sure to bring into this, I’m very pleasantly surprised.

Me too PJ! And of course, I bought Lava Girl’s new tune for the little Spens. She’ll be so excited when I tell her tomorrow. Playing with mommy’s ipod plus Lava Girl will equal at least an hour of happiness.

Is there a magical switch that goes off when people turn 18? Are we no longer allowed to be goofy when we hit legal adult age? I missed that memo…oops. She will still be a young teen girl when she hits 18 anyway.

I’m excited for Howard Benson’s collaboration and I’m hoping for some rock in the album.

  • http://www.GuanacosOnline.org/roquesite roquemocan

I sincerely hope her awesome single sells well (will try to buy it tomorrow myself), so she can buy a new sweater – I always see her with that stripped grey sweater!

    LOL. I know, right?

Anyway, I think it’s so cool that she’s obviously getting a kick out of working with all these peeps. So happy for her. Even if Allison, Adam and Kris don’t have a big careers, what a rush they all must be having now. I hope they’re all taking some time to savor the experience.

  • Squirrely

yeah it’s the same silly face in all her pictures. I wonder if she will stop all this over goofyness when she hits 18 in April. I certainly hope she changes her twitter style by then too.

I’ve never thought twice about Allison’s antics. In the past, I found them endearing since she is only 17. As I think about this, it might do her well to retain some professionalism, maturity in some of her public facing twitters, photos and press. She is straddling the teen/young adult audience. Before you know it she’ll be too old for the tweens and will have to market herself to the next age bracket. I’m not saying she should wash away her personality by any means. I love her… but perhaps needs to think a little bit of the bigger picture. This might not be exactly the right time, she just needs to burn through and get that album completed. Putting aside some of the giggly-ness would be good for upcoming appearances for her album. Just one opinion.

  • koshka

BTW – I love that she hasn’t changed her hair. Love the blue in it.

  • beehiway

Yep. She’s a kid. Talks like a kid, walks like a kid, makes faces like a kid, tweets like a kid. Thank God.

I love her tomboyishness. She seems to have a strong sense of who she is and that will be an asset through the long haul. Don’t want her to crumble under any peep pressure want her to mature at her own pace and hopefully be making good rock n roll music well into adulthood. I certainly hope she doesn’t listen to any of us regarding how she should dress, talk, tweet, smile etc. ETA: I apologize if I stepped on any toes. I’m probably feeling protective – I get nervous about some of these young artists coming up now mainly because of a couple of young artists that I enjoyed in their early years (Brittney and Lindsey for example) whose careers fell apart after a few years. They could have benefited from some good advice.

Kinda ironic considering this guy bashed Kelly Clarkson some years ago because she didn’t ‘pay her dues’ and get into the music industry ‘the real way.’

I am with You in that if You have talent, it doesn’t matter how You get discovered. But I also think she HAS paid her dues, what with her singing at “La Curacao” store and all those community events, etc.

  • LoveDaRocker

I wish she would stop making those stupid faces in pictures. She’s such a pretty girl but I don’t think she’s comfortable with that.

I appreciate that she is not using sex appeal to gain fans (not yet at least). If you look at her “quinceanera” run, and other pre-idol activities, you could argue that there was more focus on her beauty then than during her idol run. I don’t think she is oblivious to it. I think is a conscious attempt to make it in the business through talent.

Kinda ironic considering this guy bashed Kelly Clarkson some years ago because she didn’t ‘pay her dues’ and get into the music industry ‘the real way.’

Disclaimer: I don’t know wha Kelly did before her Idol run, so this is not a diss to Kelly.
A point about “due-paying”: Allison wasn’t sitting at home last summer and decided “oh, I want to sing, drive me to the idol audition”. She has been singing since she was 10, has done local shows with a band, and she won the “quinceanera” thing. She even made a TV commercial (a public service ad for abused children).
The point is, she has paid more dues than most 17 year olds in the business. Probably more than all other AI8 top ten except Adam.

  • becausehelives

Yep. She’s a kid. Talks like a kid, walks like a kid, makes faces like a kid, tweets like a kid. Thank God.

she can be a kid but there’ s a diff b/w a 12 yr old and a 17 yr old. If her fans like her this way then cool , I wonder why she was expected to come out with a janis joplin like song. she’s either a kid and shld sing tweeny blopper songs or she’s matured for her age and shld sing more adult songs. not both.

  • Squirrely

Kinda ironic considering this guy bashed Kelly Clarkson some years ago because she didn’t ‘pay her dues’ and get into the music industry ‘the real way.’

I thought it was Hillary Duff/Kelly Clarkson thing that led to the dissing. He was dating Hillary at the time – so sad I know this because I can not stand Hillary Duff. He made reference to Kelly’s weight and what not.

  • beehiway

she’s either a kid and shld sing tweeny blopper songs or she’s matured for her age and shld sing more adult songs. not both.

    But why not?

I thought that the comparison to Janis Joplin had to do with vocal qualities and that Allison could belt out a bluesy rock ballad like Janis. I did not take that to mean that the content of the song would necessarily be “mature.” Janis Joplin began singing around the age of 19 and died at age 27. Maybe the subjects of her songs were more mature because of her inner demons, idk.

Would you say Katy Perry’s Hot n Cold or Lady Gaga’s Disco Stick are adult songs? Not sure what I would call it. Maybe just poppy fun songs? That’s okay. Allison can do fun and adult. Just MHO.

  • JohnM

becausehelives: she can be a kid but there’ s a diff b/w a 12 yr old and a 17 yr old. If her fans like her this way then cool , I wonder why she was expected to come out with a janis joplin like song.

Because she’s so damn good at it. ;-)

she’s either a kid and shld sing tweeny blopper songs or she’s matured for her age and shld sing more adult songs. not both.

Exactly the opposite. She should sing whatever the heck she wants to sing and is good at singing. So should anyone else her age. All this hand-wringing we’ve seen over her singing songs that aren’t “age-appropriate” is just completely incomprehensible. If you like what she sings, listen to it. If you don’t, don’t.

And anyway, she doesn’t act like a 12-year-old. She acts like a goofball a lot of the time. There are people of all ages who act like goofballs. I do sometimes, and I’ve got 33 years on her. As I said above, if you don’t like the way someone acts/sings/whatever, don’t pay attention to them.

  • PRMari

I don’t think she is oblivious to it.

Her tour performances tell me that she is in fact NOT oblivious to it. She definitely knows how to turn on the sex appeal during a performance; but off stage, she’s still just a goofy kid that’s having the time of her life living her dream at the moment. It’s not like these were promotional pictures or something…she can turn on the pretty and sexy for those too.

  • beehiway

Maybe I should put more smileys’ in my posts. It would probably help a bunch. 8) 8) 8) 8)

  • beehiway

I was not saying that I think Allison should be singing age-appropriate songs. I agree that she should sing whatever she wants to sing.

Even though I realize now that my point may not be not very logical.
I was attempting to point out that if anyone had the idea that Janis sang songs with adult lyrics it had do to with something other than her age because she was around Allison’s age when she started singing and the first song Janis wrote and sang was “What Good Can Drinking Do.” Yes a lot of young people have adult-type problems and IDK for sure but maybe Allison would not feel the need to write a drinking song right now? If you know what I mean. If she feels the need though more power to her.

And yes I have drunk, do drink, am drunk. j/k

Alright I am knee deep in it. Slogging out. 8)

  • PRMari

    Heh…nice save.

Allison is headed to another session with Benson today:

Top of ze Mornin’ to yaa!! Headin’ over to seà ±or Bensons’sSsSsSsSss XD!!

  • Danielle

    Can’t wait for her album!!!

And I love Allison’s goofiness. Maybe I have a different perspective on this because I’m only 16 myself, but I think it’s part of what makes her so likeable. I have a friend a little older than her who is way goofier than her, but she’s so much fun to be around because she’s just so funny. (Granted, it’s totally different because my friend is just a normal teenager and Allison’s in the public eye and has to be more professional and all, but still…)

  • JohnM

Oh heck, beehiway, I wasn’t responding to your post at all — I thought it was fine. And no smileys needed! (Resisting urge to put one in right here…)

  • PRMari

I don’t see Allison’s public behavior as unprofessional. She seems very professional and focused when she has to be and really, at this point in her young life, that’s enough for me. I think it’s good that she can still be a kid while in the middle of all this crazyness, it’s good for her mental health :)

  • JohnM

Right on the mark, PRMari. When these complaints come up about her being fun, I always think back to her Idolatry interview, which proved your statement about her being professional and focused (and thoughtful, and self-aware…) when she has to be.

  • PRMari

LOL, complaining that someone is fun sounds very strange.

I think throughout her Idol run she showed that she can be totally professional, composed and respectful, even when she’s not being treated in the best possible manner.

So outside in real life she’s a bit of a wild child…good for her, as long as she knows how to reign it in when it counts and she certainly can and has done that. It’s that personality that Simon was alluding to her not having…yeah.

  • JohnM

LOL, complaining that someone is fun sounds very strange.

    That’s what I was going for. ;-)
