That was the bomb! She killed it. Can’t believe she’s just starting, she’s so confortable on stage and has such a fantastic presence.

  • abbysee

I still hate this song with a passion, but she is awesome!

  • PRMari

Wow! What a difference between this and the record! This is so rocking! Her voice is much too rock for that song as recorded. I love her band. Too bad the sound and video are out of sync, it’s distracting but hot damn! That was hot!

  • Rub

    Thanx MJ.
The sound and vid is out-of-sync as usual. Most likely, its the compression software or the processing power of the computer. It can also be YouTube’s compression algorithm.

Priscilla is on fire. have mercy!

  • dhunken

I actually like this song better Live then on the album (and I don’t think it is that bad of a song on the album) Yeah Allison. I am happy with this album. She keeps her youthful persona yet puts out a mature album. Bravo Allison

  • adamisthemanfan

yeah she hit a few bum notes in the beginning but she still rocked…
    thanks MJ :)

  • LoveDaRocker

Very good. It sounded a bit flat at parts compared with the record, but it stands on its own very well and the band was tight.
She has come a long way in terms of letting her personality show. She was really funny and witty with the presenter.

  • gulfluv

I saw her on my TV this morning and thought she killed it! I really like her band, too. Yay, go Lava Girl!

  • LoveDaRocker

And, T-Rex arm was fully functional. Love it.

  • JohnM

    ROCK AND ROLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

Great performance, and the band looks and sounds fantastic, especially Valerie F-ing Franco and Priscilla (but then I’m partial to bass players).

Yeah, she was very funny beforehand too.

As I said in her previous thread, I wonder how many people will notice the flat notes, which I presume were because she couldn’t hear herself well. To my ears, those notes were way off, but I know a lot of people don’t notice that stuff nearly as much.

But overall, super kick-ass! And how about knocking the mic stand down??

    Thanx MJ.

I’m going to re-compress it. I did it in kind of a hurry this morning.

  • Miss Chaos

Watched Allison this morning. She was very good. I’m glad GMA decided to let her on their show, and she didnt grab any crotches, or kiss the pretty gituar player, you know she wanted too, just for giggles to support her friend Adam. I liked her singing the song here better than the video I watched. I dont notice the bum notes, I’m not that good, Happy for her.

  • PRMari

I notice but it wasn’t a huge deal. She probably couldn’t hear herself like you said and it was the begining of the song, she may have been nervous too.

She was very good. I’m glad GMA decided to let her on their show, and she didnt grab any crotches, or kiss the pretty gituar player, you know she wanted too

LOL! I did notice she grabbed her guitarist’s arm at one point.

  • mmk28

Really powerful performance!! I wish they have kept these raw, raspy “oh yeah” instead of the poppy ones in the studio version, which is the only problem I have with the song, but whatever here she sings it live with her unique voice and movements (I love T-Rex arm) and a great band, so go Allison!!

  • mitchellvii

She does that little wavy thing with her hand just like Mariah. Love her but always hated that.

  • saga

A few bum notes is indication of passion! Perfect is boring.

  • JohnM

mmk28: I wish they have kept these raw, raspy ‘oh yeah’ instead of the poppy ones in the studio version

Exactly! As soon as I heard her do that at the beginning of the song, I thought, “THIS is our girl!”

    And yeah, go T-Rex arm!

  • maturin

She was SO adorable with the anchor dude. The song is really fun–shades of Martha and the Muffins–and she’s so much fun live.

  • JohnM

Wow! M+M! Now there’s a cool Canadian 80s reference. Loved them.

  • girlygirl

The deluxe version of Allison’s album is at #10 on iTunes!!

mj :I’m going to re-compress it. I did it in kind of a hurry this morning.

Thats cool mj, you dont have to do it.
When I encode video, I normally avoid multitasking at the same time to let the processor work fully compressing the vid, especially on a PC. With a mac, OSX directs all processing resources to the encoding process as top priority, consequently, you get a top notch seamless result, in my experience.

mj, the hardest working idol blogger!

  • daenarys

This song just doesn’t grab me. But love her personality. She’s got something quirky, offbeat and mischevious going on, and very very genuine.

    I like her song.

  • PRMari

Allison tweeted a link to this thread! Go girl!

She’s an mj fangirl! Thanks for putting this up so quickly mj :)

  • Rub

BTW mj, this is the only joint I hang for Allison. I know there are quite a few of ‘em. I don’t have the time nor the patience for the non-sense of those other forums. Clearly, the most respected AI forum/blog on the net.
Allison and Adam have both mentioned this site from time to time.

  • JohnM

Aw Rub, come on over to Allison’s site! I’ve been doing my best to keep it alive…

  • adamisthemanfan

Allison posted a link on her twitter for this site :)

  • NFG_fan

What a great Rocking performance— really enjoyed it.
and congrats to the band as well, great professional job (for their first outing).

Worth buying Just Like You on the basis of that alone.

  • champ

i feel like a proud parent. well, more like older sister i guess. i’m going to buy the album later today! can’t wait!

  • justantonio

she’s got the best debut album out of all the idols. ..just fantastic.

  • Mtlfan

I really like her voice! Great job here!!

  • revcat

Wow! If she had been that good on Idol she would have won! (I knew she had the skills but now her charisma shines through!)

  • nina.t

She sounds so good live. Awesome! And her answers, oh Allison – straight to the point. Charming and clever.:-)

  • JohnM

    She was that good!

Okay, yeah, she is letting herself be more herself now, that’s true…

  • PRMari

Aw Rub, come on over to Allison’s site! I’ve been doing my best to keep it alive’ ¦

Alright, I’ll head over one of these days. Which Allison site?

Im looking at the digital booklet off iTunes, and man, she looks sweet – real cool.
Why she didn’t rock that look on GMA, why? She looks incredible with straight hair, as well as when she pulls her hair back too.

    Maybe Ellen FTW

  • DennyS

Lol. Allison reeks awesomeness :D :D. Nice job

  • TwigLA

Glad to know it’s the compression on the video. I thought they were singing/playing along to a dub. It was very distracting.

With that said, she looked and sounded great as did the band. I really like that she has a female drummer and guitarist included. She was very funny with the host. Could he possibly have a more boring voice? lol

    Good job, Allison.

  • JosieX

I love the confidence that she brings to it, and she looked and sounded great. Very happy for Allison today!

  • tinydance

I am loving her whole performances and cd. She has a winner there.

  • AdoK

Great performance! So genuine and emotional. I love especially the last part of the song.

  • LoveDaRocker

Wow! If she had been that good on Idol she would have won! (I knew she had the skills but now her charisma shines through!)

She was that good (and better many times) on the show.

  • fusion8

    Great job, Allison!

i just wish that she have recieved more media exposure.

  • golcook

Great performance! she really nailed it. I love the record too, it’s a little too teen oriented for my taste but still got many stand out songs. I hope she gets the success she deserves.

  • Rub

I love especially the last part of the song.

Me too man. Mee too. Thats the best part with the last note – the way she holds it.
She’s gonna be on MTV with Alexa Chung this Thursday. Hopefully she’ll perform though doubtful.

  • JohnM

Rub: Alright, I’ll head over one of these days. Which Allison site?

THE Allison site, her official site, http://AllisonIraheta.com

There are probably fewer than half a dozen of us who keep the Community section going, including PRMari and me. It’s definitely not overwhelming like some other sites!

  • alli lurker

Allison tweeted a link to this thread! Go girl!

Good to know… Do you think she actually reads our nonsensical ramblings? If so, Allison, if you’re listening, please come to Red Rocks this summer – I want to see you live!!! Late July, early August would be good. Yay!!

I watched GMA on TV and saw two seconds of Holiday and two seconds of Don’t Waste The Pretty in addition to FIBOU. I wonder if we’ll get to see those performances?

Very cute interview, lots of smoker voice in the performance (for those of us who like that sort of thing) and certainly not enough screen time. Why not two songs? I thought they would have at least had her ‘sing out’ the show.

    Anyway, GREAT job!

  • 1wildegirl

I really like that she has a female drummer and guitarist included.

Right on! I never got why people claimed she had no personality, etc on Idol. I found her almost as adorkable as Kelly was during hers.

  • wordnerdarchie

It’s good to see Allison’s album at #9 on I-Tunes downloads right now. Way to go, girl!

  • allisonfanahtic

She truly ROCKED this performance…her band was on point!! Very cohesive sounding, super profesh!! Her vocals were rockeriffic!! I loved it! I’m so glad to hear she’ll be on Alexa Chung!! YAY, they seem to be adding more promo here and there!! that’s fantastic cause this album and Alli deserve it! So far, I love every song on the album, but my current faves are Pieces and Trouble is! Rock on, Alli!!

  • tinawina

There were a couple of bum notes I guess, but it rocked! Allison is awesome. That was fun to watch.

  • jordison

Today is a milestone day for me.

    1. I turn 65 this month, so as of 12/1 I am now on medicare. Save lots of money on my medical insurance.

    2. I get to go out and purchase multiple copies of Just Like You. (Already have downloaded the itunes deluxe version)

    I feel young again.

  • Rub

BTW, its Wednesday on MTV with Alexa Chung. Tape it, digitize it, do what you gotta do.
I doubt she’ll perform, but you never know.

  • MollyAnnMay

    Moved from the other thread:

That was fantastic! And yeah, I was having way too much fun grinning from ear to ear, singing along and dancing in my chair (thank god for having a private office) to notice anything but a remarkable voice and energy that lights up the sky. Woo!

Wow! If she had been that good on Idol she would have won!

    Err’ ¦she WAS.

You said it, PRMari. She had me from “Alone.” I haven’t stopped being amazed by this girl since day one. Oh yeah!

  • SarahP

wow i almost forgot how brilliantly and mindblowingly talented allison was!

i havent seen any of her other shows but this performance was great! her vocals were super as usual, her and the band’s presence was good and wow, i love her enthusiasm which shows on stage, and of course her hair.

i’ve not seen any of her other gigs so far. has she done any other album promo gigs?

  • NFG_fan

Love the ‘I’m 17 now my friend’ and the T-Rex arms thing LMAO :0)

Such a good rock performance, enjoyed it a lot.

  • jordison

Good job Allison this morning in spite of the noted slight pitch problem. As I am retired and my wife is disabled, we have the “opportunity” to regularly watch GMA. Rarely do performers give their best performances on GMA, because of the venue. I think she came off quite well, and my wife didn’t even react to pitch issues. She’s trained in opera, and constantly yells “flat” or “sharp” at singers on TV. Her only concern was for Alli protecting her voice and not “pulling a Jordin Sparks.”

Looking forward to Ellen. High energy setting. Ellen liked Alli a lot on her Idol exit visit, and Ellen can be quite supportive when she likes someone. Hopefully she’ll get the studio audience all wired to rock out. Maybe Ellen will even give her some extra time, or even an extra song? (Hope, hope)

  • JohnM

SarahP: i’ve not seen any of her other gigs so far. has she done any other album promo gigs?

Just some acoustic performances at a few radio stations a few weeks ago. Below are the two songs from the performance that has the best sound:

    Just Like You

    Don’t Waste The Pretty

  • JohnM

jordison: Her only concern was for Alli protecting her voice and not ‘pulling a Jordin Sparks.’

Sorry, what does pulling a Jordin Sparks mean?

  • jordison

“You said it, PRMari. She had me from ‘Alone.’ ”

She had me at the word “telephone.”

  • jordison

“Sorry, what does pulling a Jordin Sparks mean?”

I’m not sure of the exact medical diagnosis, but Jordin severely injured her vocal cords and had to drop out of the Alicia Keyes tour for about a month. Had to have complete vocal rest. Evidently, it could have been quite serious.

  • breakdown

    Congrats Allison! Awesome!

  • Rub

jordison, that part(telephone) was cool – she made it her own.

I just finish listening to Papa was a rollin stone. lol
When the album(Just Like You) finished playing, itunes went to the next song – Papa was a rollin stone performance video. haha awesome, brings back memories..

  • jordison

I had heard some time ago that if you’re buying multiple copies of an album it’s better for the artist if you make separate purchases, as opposed to putting all the copies on a single transaction.

Does anyone know if this is true?

  • Rub

also a video of her GMA performance this morning, but it starts off with clips of her performing HOLIDAY and DON”T WASTE THE PRETTY as well!

    thanks to alliholics for uploading!

  • Rub

    Thank you to the Alliholics.
I wonder if anybody in attendance was able to capture anything on video.

  • alli lurker

Those other performances look REALLY GOOD!! Doesn’t GMA put those on their site? Gotta see them…

Robin Roberts has a Conan moment after Holiday… “We’re up, We’re up now! Good Morning!!”

    Too funny!!

  • LoveDaRocker

    jordison
She had me at the word ‘telephone.’

I don’t know if it was you or Rub who sometime ago said the same thing. Looking back, my favorite part is her little smirk before going into the chorus (like saying “check this out”), and then rocking out the chorus.

  • LoveDaRocker

Do we know if those clips were from full performances? I get the feeling that, at least for Holiday, they just did a bit of the song to segway into the hosts.

  • alli lurker

    LoveDaRocker
I don’t know if it was you or Rub who sometime ago said the same thing.

That was me, damn it! I must be the “page in a book that you read too fast”, in the words of famous rocker chick. I’ll forgive you because Rub and I tend to think alike sometimes. Me and jordison, too, apparently!

And yeah, the smirk was great… just before she cut loose with the mic.

  • dhunken

Besides this great performance I would like to point out that I think Allison’s Thank You on her album is the best of the three that has come out so far and probably one of the best I have ever read.

  • bjames

yikes, that interview at the beginning was AWKWARD. she did a good job though, and the band sounds awesome.

i wish they could lower the song a key or two for her though. some of those notes made me hurt.

Noticed the same thing last night. Very sweet, sincere, and appreciative. Allison sure doesn’t give any indication of getting a big head over all of this. Also shows a bit of a religious side to her that hadn’t come out before.

She’s a sweetheart at her core.

BTW, am I the only one who lost the reply functionality, such as making quotes?

  • JohnM

bjames: yikes, that interview at the beginning was AWKWARD

HAHAHAHA! Deja vu, anyone? That wasn’t awkward, that was Allison! And hilarious!

  • alli lurker

BTW jordison, if you liked ‘telephone’ she does it again when she says “drama GO away” in this acoustic version of Just Like You. It gets me every time…

    http://bit.ly/4kxKbP

  • LoveDaRocker

I found the interview as awkward as any live/not scripted interview will always be. I though that her timing was good, her answers fun, and, if anything, it was the presenter who seemed a bit flustered.

  • jordison

    “PRMari- What? Awkward?”

Well, maybe bjames is referring to the explanation of the meaning behind FIBOU. I think it was pretty obvious that when Allison said “you” she wasn’t talking about Chris Cuomo personally, or being disrespectful to him. I thought it was cute and the studio audience reacted well, as did Chris C. Also, when she said “thank you Chris” she was referring to Daughtry, and not to Chris C. Someone could have conceivably considered that to be slightly sarcastic if they thought it was meant for Chris C, which it obviously was not.

Anyway, IMO, we should not over analyze this. She was really cute in the interview.

  • LoveDaRocker

    alli lurker
BTW jordison, if you liked ‘telephone’ she does it again when she says ‘drama GO away’ in this acoustic version of Just Like You. It gets me every time’ ¦

THIS! Something about her phrasing there has been bouncing on my head for a while, and that is it.

  • jordison

I admit to possibly plagiarizing on the “telephone” remark, but I remember it relating to a whole phrase, while with me it was just the sound of that one word.

I’m usually good at imitating sounds, but I still can’t do it – tayleeefown?

  • LoveDaRocker

I think it was pretty obvious that when Allison said ‘you’ she wasn’t talking about Chris Cuomo personally, or being disrespectful to him.

I disagree, I believe she was referring to him, not in a disrespectful way, of course. It was all in good fun.

  • snlw

Love her performance! But as on AI, she really needs to work on her wardrobe department as her outfits always look so wrong to me and esp. for her age…

  • Truthiness

Well I like the song anyway, but live it really sounds great and Allison did an AWESOME job. I thought she was cute and funny in the interview as well.

So win-win. I think this kind of performance will want to make people check her out, so good job there as well.

  • cmc25

Great job from a 17-year old new rocker.

Itunes charts indicate longevity of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Susan Boyle.

Lambert is dropping, Allison moving up.

  • alli lurker

jordison – I don’t think anyone was accusing you of plagiarizing. I think LoveDaRocker was just remembering that he heard it before, and I just get frustrated sometimes when people attribute my posts to others. I’m thrilled that you like that line, too!

And I think its something to do with the ‘o’ in phone – similar to the ‘o’ in go on JLY. Maybe not… I just call it smoker voice.

Alli lurker – just having fun right now – the plagiarism comment was not serious. Anyway, concerning the smoker voice, it amazes me, after wasting my time searching and reading so many reviews by generally a bunch of numb nuts, that some reviewers say that Allison lacks a unique personality or style. Yes, it’s true, she is a member of the human race and her voice does fall under the category of a human voice, but that’s about it. She is not Pink, she is not Kelly Clarkson.

She is unique, and those of us who major in alliology know it. The next generation needs sombody like this.

  • jordison

    iTunes as of the moment:

Album is #8 in music, and #5 in pop.

I know it’s probably just a spike, but it’s fun to watch.

  • LoveDaRocker

    jordison
some reviewers say that Allison lacks a unique personality or style … She is not Pink, she is not Kelly Clarkson.

I agree. Its funny that one of the reviews (maybe the one that you are referring to) said somethink like: if Kelly Clarkson and Pink had a baby (as weird as that sounds) it will be Allison. If you have to join people to find an equal, then she is neither, right?
From what I read, reviews are generally good, except the LA Times. What’s their deal?

  • JohnM

I believe she was referring to [Chris Cuomo]

Oh, she was definitely giving a shout-out to Chris Daughtry.

I had the very same thought process about her having me at Alone and particularly at “telephone”. And I don’t know about you guys, but as far as I’m concerned, the whole thing that made that one word so special was entirely in the delivery of the first syllable, “tel”. Nothing to do with pronunciation, just the combination of the amazing tone and the pitch inflection.

What a bunch of geeks we are, picking apart one word in a performance 10 months ago! :-D ETA: Ha! I guess that’s what makes us “alliology majors”.

  • Rub

snlw: she really needs to work on her wardrobe department as her outfits always look so wrong to me and esp. for her age’ ¦

I don’t completely disagree with you, but she’s leaps and bounds better in the wardrobe department from her days on idol, a few months back. Yes she could’ve done a little better here. Have you seen the liner notes on her CD, or the iTunes digital booklet? Beautiful girl!!

For performances she doesn’t have to go all out, though I wouldn’t mind something simple like this, preferably with straight hair.

  • alli lurker

She is unique, and those of us who major in alliology know it. The next generation needs sombody like this.

Alliology – Ha! I love it. I was just thinking how nuts it was to be analyzing the words ‘telephone’ and ‘go’. Hello whack job!

I agree with your comments about the reviewers. I can’t believe they are qualified for those jobs. It’s interesting, too, how they’re all so different. Allison is very unique, especially to her generation, and I think she’ll eventually be a voice for her generation.

I will say however that the first time I heard the clips, there were several songs that I immediately thought “Pink”. I guess you can’t idolize someone and not be somewhat influenced by them. I tend to like the songs where she does NOT sound like Pink (with the exception of You Don’t Know Me where I think there’s a bit of Pink in the verse, but definitely not in the chorus).

  • jordison

At least most of us alliologists realize that we’re crazy, or at least geeks. Or, crazy geeks. I may possibly be a senile crazy geek. And yes, one of us, don’t remember who, made that “crazy” remark a few days ago.

  • jordison

What gets me about the press reviews, in spite of most of them being generally positive, is the total lack of agreement as to which are the good songs and which are not. No One Else is either the best song on the album, or the worst. One turkey in Boston only likes FIBOU and Robot Love. Others say they don’t belong on the album. One reviewer actually called Trouble Is nothing more than a filler song. Excuse me!

And, one reviewer criticized the album for being mostly pop and country.

Anyway, living in the LA area, I’m kinda upset that Adam got a review by Ann Powers, while Allison got hardly more than a sidebar review by ? But then again, Ann Powers tends to be pretty snarky most of the time.

I think I’ll just stick to Slezak’s reviews.

  • alli lurker

Ok jordison you have me crying from laughter now… and you’re not senile if you remember my “crazy” remark! Too funny!!

And don’t call me AL. That’s my dad’s name… it creeps me out.

Anyway, sorry about the AL. Is Lurky OK?

Um no… lurker would be fine, with the lower case l.

I gotta go buy somebody’s cd now.

Eep! I loved it! Allison is so awesome. She is still my favorite from that season of Idol. *nod*

  • Rub

I like Valerie’s drum set. Its cool to see Alli’s logo on the TAMA bass drum. Good quality simple drum kit – she only bolted up what she was gonna use. Unlike these other drummers who bolt-up multiple symbals, toms and dual bass drums just to pretend to look good, when in reality they never get to use half the equipment because the music/material doesn’t exist in the band/singer’s repertoire. You know who I’m talking about – same goes for the guitar amps. OTT anyone?

Its also cool David is not using the usual Marshall Heads. The speaker cabinet has to be costume made or possibly painted by him in that color. I don’t know much about David, maybe that is his signature gear color. Its cool. The distortion sounds rougher too – grungier than the record.

The bass, well, Priscilla can play on whatever she wants – she still be looking good. I do see an amp, two speaker cabinets an effects pedal she taps on of some sort, and what seems like a boa wrapping her gear, sweet.
    Is that right JohnM?

  • Bowie1

I really like Allison’s voice….the rocker in her. I think the song ‘Friday I’ll Be Over U’ is too ‘teen pop’ for me but I enjoyed the acoustic version of ‘Don’t Waste The Pretty’.

I really haven’t listen to alot of the album but I’m hoping there is more ‘rocker vibe’ than ‘teen pop’ but, if the first single is an indication, it’s probably more pop and you can’t hear her ‘great’ rocker vocals as well. I hope I’m wrong. I really think she’s talented and is going to be ‘big’ some day!

I love her ‘free spirited’ personality. I know Adam has nothing but praise for Allsion when ever he talks about her. It would be great if they could do something together again some day. It would be a great show.

  • Rub

    Bowie1: ..I hope I’m wrong.

    You are!
    go buy the album

eta – Alli is at #8 on Itunes

  • sylvanaire

Ha! Sorry to disagree with you, Bowie1, but as much as I enjoy their friendship, Allison doesn’t need to be doing anything with Adam right now. *rolling my eyes*

I thought this performance was great, go Alli! I think she’s had more flattering outfits, but she still looked like a fun rocker chick, and sounded great! Her voice was a lot more growly live on the song than on the cd. Roughed the song up quite a bit, imo, which can only be a good thing! *smiles*

Hey, can anyone point me to info about Alli’s band members? I see you guys talking about them, but somehow I’ve missed who they are, and any background info you folks have dug up. Knowing about the band really enhances the whole fan experience for me. TIA!

  • jordison

    Rub/JohnM/Anybody – Question:

David and Priscilla are the only 2 guitars (not counting Allison, if she plays). Is that enough? Some of the cuts on the album have multiple guitar parts. Is the keyboard supposed to fill in some of that, I wonder?

Also, on GMA the short clip of Holiday was the ending. Sounded a little strange. Any comments?

  • JohnM

Rub: Unlike these other drummers who bolt-up multiple symbals, toms and dual bass drums just to pretend to look good, when in reality they never get to use half the equipment because the music/material doesn’t exist in the band/singer’s repertoire.

And then there’s Neil Peart. ;-)

Its also cool David is not using the usual Marshall Heads. The speaker cabinet has to be costume made or possibly painted by him in that color.

Nope — they’re Orange Amps — as in the brand, not the color ;-) . I’ve been seeing more of them lately — in fact, the AI band used them for rock night last spring. They’re certainly easy to spot!

The bass, well, Priscilla can play on whatever she wants

But, of course, she’s playing Fender — what else? Not that I’m biased or anything!

I do see an amp, two speaker cabinets an effects pedal she taps on of some sort, and what seems like a boa wrapping her gear, sweet.
    Is that right JohnM?

Yup — she’s using Ashdown amps, which I’ve also been seeing more of, rather than “the Marshall of bass amps”, Ampeg.

Couldn’t tell you what brand the boa is!

  • Rub

Jordison your concerns are mine as well. The record calls for two guitars, rhythm in harmony and lead, to get that thick electric sound. Holiday starts with one guitar then the 2nd guitar kicks in after what seems the 4th bar – and rocks hard that makes you want to headbang. I didn’t hear much from the short clip, but it seems to me, that you can get away with a single guitar. Eddie Van Halen did it all the time.

If somebody doesn’t post that holiday vid soon, I’m gonna be forced to drive 3 hours to Orlando and tell you all about it myself on the 18th.

  • JohnM

slyvanaire: Hey, can anyone point me to info about Alli’s band members? I see you guys talking about them, but somehow I’ve missed who they are, and any background info you folks have dug up.

David Immerman is the guitarist. He seems to be sort of a Jive Records tour musician — his previous gig was touring with Jive artist Lesley Roy.

Priscilla Fire is the bassist. She has a band called Fire At Play.

Valerie Franco (or as she adorably calls herself, Valerie F*ing Franco!) is the drummer. She’s got a lot of playing under her belt — an interesting background that you can read at the link above.

The keyboard player is a bit of a mystery. There was some guy in Allison’s music video — don’t know who. Then, it was discovered that her keyboard player was Troy Laureta. But then, this other guy showed up playing keys this morning — Allison referred to him on Twitter today as Zoux. So I don’t know what’s going on with Troy. Anybody else tracked this down yet?

  • http://www.fatladysings.us TFLS

I love the look her stylists are rocking. She’s a gorgeous girl no matter what….but I really adore the longer hair and all that textural black on black. And such a voice!

    Miley who?

  • JohnM

Rub: I didn’t hear much from the short clip, but it seems to me, that you can get away with a single guitar. Eddie Van Halen did it all the time.

Yup, as have various other bands that operate as “power trios” (sometimes plus a singer) — The Who, Cream, and Rush come to mind right away — all of them created a massive wall of sound in concert (and Rush still does) with only 3 instruments. Not a problem in my mind, and yes, the keyboard can fill in some of the “thickness”. You can make anything sound like anything. Back in the early 80s, the aforementioned Eddie Van Halen used a synthesizer with a bunch of processing to make it sound very much like a distorted guitar. On the flip side, John Mayer has used a combination of effects to make his guitar sound like an organ. What a world.

  • LoveDaRocker

If somebody doesn’t post that holiday vid soon …

As I speculated before (and no one has talked me down), I think there might not be a full version of Holiday from GMA. Judging by their energy, and that GMA was returning from commercial, I think they asked them to play the last 30 seconds of a song and they played Holiday in cue with getting back live.

  • Rub

JohnM as usual you did your research with links to the manufacturer, and in the process made me look like a novice. Lol
You’re right about the orange amps – all the new kids are using them.

  • LoveDaRocker

    Miley who?

Yet, with inferior voice, inferior material (Party in the USA?), inferior looks, and (to me at least) an annoying personality, Miley Effing Cyrus sold 150k albums last week, on an album released late August.

  • Rub

LoveDaRocker, I heard you. I hope you’re wrong coz I dont want to drive 3 hours.

  • LoveDaRocker

I hope you’re wrong coz I dont want to drive 3 hours.

I hope I am wrong, because those 15 secs where a piece of Rock heaven.

  • JohnM

As I understand it, yes, sometimes bands do just perform a short part of a song for those commercial break segueways, and sometimes they perform entire songs. Since they did the end of Holiday coming out of commercial, while DWTP was shown mid-song, I’m guessing they at least did DWTP in full, but maybe Holiday, maybe not.

  • sylvanaire

Thank you JohnM for the band info. They look like they’ll make a good band for Alli, if they are able to stay together. Here’s hoping for success for them all!

  • alli lurker

Rub – If Allison were within 3 hours from me I would go, you know you want to!

I bought my first Idol cd today. Congrats, Allison!! Then I had to drive around so I could listen to it in the car. I didn’t hear everything because I had to repeat some of my favorites. D is for Dangerous I listened to maybe 4 times. And Beat Me Up in the car is amazing – they should release that and ‘D’ in the summer. The only problem is that its hard to keep your hands on the wheel. Its like that commercial (I don’t know if it plays everywhere) where the asian guy is air drumming in his car to that Kansas (?) song “how long”. That one cracks me up.

For some reason I just kept laughing when Beat Me Up was playing. Its just so intense, like being on a roller coaster.

  • JohnM

Radio update — FIBOU got 2 adds this week — Boise ID and Daytona Beach FL, both Top 40 as usual. Not good, but she only got one last week, so better than that anyway.

Also, this is interesting — so far this week, her number of spins is the same as for the same period last week, but she has fewer spins on Top 40 and more on Hot AC. Still about 4-to-1 in favor of Top 40, but the Hot AC spins have been slowly increasing — this is a little bit of a trend that I, for one, certainly didn’t expect. Interested to see how it goes from here.

  • Rub

alli lurker…Then I had to drive around so I could listen to it in the car.

Me too, I did that. I love listening to music in the car. Beat Me Up is a blast, aint it?
JohnM, You didn’t expect to be this slow, or that it still added and spinning?

  • Rub

Hey the GMA spanish version of Friday ain’t as pitchy. Actually real cool.

  • PRMari

Never mind, Rub beat me to it. I just wish the audio was better but like in the album, I prefer the Spanish version.

  • LoveDaRocker

    Que que?
I am in the middle of my commute and my computer at home does not work. Will have to wait till tomorrow for VTOY.

  • JohnM

Rub: JohnM, You didn’t expect to be this slow, or that it still added and spinning?

No, neither, really. I didn’t expect Hot AC to pick up the song unless it got big on Top 40 first. Granted, the Hot AC spin numbers are still tiny and no HAC station has added it, but still, it’s getting more HAC spins, and I really didn’t expect any.

  • JohnM

Just came back from a grocery shopping trip, with a side stop at Best Buy and Target. My wife wanted to know what took me so long.

Bought a couple copies at Best Buy, and played it LOUD in the car. Wow, what a difference! Gave me a new appreciation for Pieces. Haven’t played music that loud in years, and probably suffered (more) hearing damage. But, it was worth it. This album is meant to be played loud, on a good sound system. I’ve decided I love all the songs, as each one has something to offer. Don’t Waste the Pretty is awesome.

Bought a couple more copies at Target. Plenty of copies still left to be purchased folks.

  • oceana

Loved it, she’s a ball of energy. It was a bit rough in places, but they haven’t performed it much if at all publicly.

I’m encouraged that she’s #8 on itunes tonight. That must be a good sign right? Her sales can’t be too crappy if she’s #8 right now. I know it’s pre-sales, but there must be quite a few of them. At least I hope it’s a good sign.

She seemed a little bit nervous, it was a big gig for her and an important day. I wonder if we can see the other songs she did on the ABC website, will have to go look.

    Go Allison!

  • oceana

    Great job, Allison!
i just wish that she have recieved more media exposure.

It’s only just begun. Give it time, have faith, and keep hope alive :)

Right on! I never got why people claimed she had no personality, etc on Idol. I found her almost as adorkable as Kelly was during hers.

She reminds me of Kelly in some ways. Kelly was also young (19 when her season started) and in those early years she was kind of goofy and inarticulate during interviews. And they are both powerful singers. I wonder if Kelly has reached out to Allison at all. I also wonder sometimes if Alli and Miley are still in communicado. That would be cool.

So cool that David Cook retweeted about Alli’s cd release today. Did y’all see that? He has 77,708 followers who all saw that today. Thank you David Cook! He also tweeted today about Syesha. Sweet.

Yes, loud is key. It really makes a difference. Now I get to be the annoying person at the stoplight with the thumping bass. Maybe I’ll get my windows darkened.

I paid $9.98 at Target, how much is it at Best Buy?

BTW – Slezak is tweeting that he’s got something coming up at midnight with Allison.

    $9.99 at Best Buy – it’s a penny more.

I went to both stores because I was curious as to how it was displayed. Turns out about the same at both – on a new releases rack.

The cashier at Best Buy noticed the album and said “oh, Allison Iraheta – cool, she was on American Idol, huh?” I then told him it was a hot album and he should get it. I’m sure a 65 year old man telling a teenager to try this album would make him hurry to pick one up, right?

oceana: I also wonder sometimes if Alli and Miley are still in communicado. That would be cool.

Well, during a twitter bash a while back, someone asked her if she’s a fan of Miley, and she answered, “I respect her for what she does.” So I’m thinking not! And personally, I’m really happy with that, because I cannot stand that girl (you know which one I’m talking about!).

So cool that David Cook retweeted about Alli’s cd release today.

Very glad to hear that. That’s great support. And I’ve been wishing for a Cook/Iraheta tour since last spring.

I wonder who Allison might open for/tour with? As far as Idols, Kelly, DC, or Daughtry might be good, or maybe Archie. Non-Idols, Pink?

I’ve seen people post already that Jive probably won’t let Allison make a second cd, that her song didn’t get radio play so it’s basically all over. It surprises me that people would judge so prematurely. I wouldn’t do that with Kris, Adam, or Allison, their career has just basically started this month with their first cds out. I’m sure Jive would give Allison more than a week before they pulled the rug out from under her, lol. Of course there will be more singles and lots of time given her. With her talent, and it’s such a good cd, I’m really not worried about her future. I’m slightly worried about first week sales, but not her overall career. And I’m getting more optimistic about her sales seeing her #8 on itunes.

  • iluvai

I’ve seen people post already that Jive probably won’t let Allison make a second cd, that her song didn’t get radio play so it’s basically all over.

That seems kind of ridiculous. But I don’t have any idea how this all works.

She is a little firecracker!! Awesome voice. I can see her doing better than Kris and Adam combined (in the future). And I am a die hard Adam fan.

  • Rub

I actually would prefer if Allison signed with Geffen records – where the real rockers are. Interscope would rule too. At 17/18 any of those labels would scoop her up in a heart beat.

    Jive is for kids

  • alli lurker

    Jive is for kids

Yeah, I’m not crazy about this whole Top 40/Tween track they’re on. I want to hear her on my radio station – adult alternative rock. They’ve never played an idol, though.

Just out of curiosity I looked at the Walmart web site and they say they are out of stock of Allison’s cd. I wonder if that is as impressive as it sounds – as in sold out. I never shop there, so I don’t know.

  • alli lurker

Rub – So should we throw in the towel on FIBOU and hope for a different song on Ellen? I still think FIBOU is a good song, but I’m getting tired of defending it. Sometimes it feels like there’s a tidal wave against it.

  • alison8701

  • JohnM

oceana: I’ve seen people post already that Jive probably won’t let Allison make a second cd, that her song didn’t get radio play so it’s basically all over.

Yeah, what a joke! My Wife The David Cook Fan loves to make snide remarks (to me, not on mj’s!) about how “X’s career is over” — Cook’s career was over because Light On “only” sold whatever it was, 100K or something its first week, Kris’ career is over because LLWD didn’t skyrocket to the top of the charts, etc. etc. etc. It’s all silly.

When her contract was announced, the Jive execs said they wanted to sign her early on and didn’t care where she finished on the show. That means they were willing to bring her in as a new unknown artist — if she had gotten the boot at, say, top 9 or so, she would have had an extremely tiny fanbase — and that means they’re willing to invest in her and let her try to build a following.

alli lurker: Yeah, I’m not crazy about this whole Top 40/Tween track they’re on.

Well, although they’re certainly pushing the “girl power” / teen (I don’t know about tween) angle in the marketing, I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up being more successful on Hot AC with subsequent songs — it feels a lot more like a HAC album to me, overall, than a Top 40 album. Am I nuts? If I’m right, I hope they show enough flexibility to work the angle that makes her more successful, whether that turns out to be teen, adult, girl, boy, whatever.

So should we throw in the towel on FIBOU and hope for a different song on Ellen?

No. We don’t know what the radio situation is. Jive has the relationships with the stations, and we don’t know what their feeling is about FIBOU’s chances on radio. If they feel there’s still a chance it’ll pick up steam, presumably they’ll stick with it. If they don’t, presumably they’ll ditch it. I’m not saying they’ll necessarily make the right decision — I’m just saying there’s behind-the-scenes information that we don’t have, and thus we have no way of figuring out what the right decision is.

I’m getting tired of defending it. Sometimes it feels like there’s a tidal wave against it.

See above about X’s career being over! :-) Gotta try to let that stuff roll off your back, and see what actually happens where it counts.

Just out of curiosity I looked at the Walmart web site and they say they are out of stock of Allison’s cd. I wonder if that is as impressive as it sounds ‘“ as in sold out.

Well, I think it says that her demand is more impressive than Walmart thought it would be — so either there’s impressively high demand, or they expected extremely low demand. That’s my take on it, anyway. Let’s hope it’s the former! Amazon and Target both show it in stock.

  • alli lurker

  • smartalek

I still say Allison is going to be marketed well. The girl is commercial without the controversy that Adam brings to the table. Just saying. She is the most likely to pull in a following from outside the AI bubble as it appears to me. Finishing 4th may be advantageous b/c it’s a lot of distance from the show in a way. She might actually be better off if she could distance herself from Kris who can in no way distance himself from the show as he is the winner. As part of my theory, perhaps the real reson behind Adam AMA performance was Adam’s attempt to part from the show to hopefully gather a following outside the AI bubble.

  • alli lurker

Finishing 4th may be advantageous b/c it’s a lot of distance from the show in a way.

Good point. Or maybe it was all just staged that way so they could market her as ‘the outsider’. Who knows what goes on in the idol machine…

  • JohnM

What did you think of our latest DWTP?

Egg-cellent. I agree that it’s the best one yet — I think her voice was in better shape. Kinda felt like maybe it was more subdued than some of the others, though.

  • alli lurker

Really? I thought it felt very emotional. Could be because the camera was more focused in on her face. And yeah, her voice sounded better, which surprised me because on GMA I thought it was worse.

Good night! Don’t let any disparaging remarks slip through the cracks!

tiger92: Does anyone know any details of the JBB in Memphis? What other acts will be there? How much are the tickets and where is the concert?

It’s at Sam’s Town Casino down in Tunica, Mississippi. Go to the Q107.5 website at:
    http://www.q1075.com
and click on Buy Tickets Now. I just checked, and they do still have tickets. They’re something like $12.75 plus the usual five million dollars in Ticketmaster fees.

The Ticketmaster page warns you that it’s only for adults 21 and older. However, I seriously doubt that that’s true, especially given that it’s a Top 40 kind of show. They probably just say 21+ for all the casino shows because it’s a gambling venue. We’ve gone to two casinos for concerts, and our kids just had to be accompanied by us parents. Still, worth checking on, if you have a young’un you want to bring along.

The other acts that are performing are listed on the page linked above.
