Allison Iraheta opened the Glam Nation tour in Wilkes-Barre, PA Friday night with a bang. Check out her set list: Holiday, Still Breathing, Scars, Don’t Waste the Pretty, a cover of Heartbreaker and Friday I’ll be Over U.

Fellow show opener, Orianthi, joined Allison on stage for some shredding during the red-headed rocker’s new single, “Don’t Waste the Pretty.”

    Thank you, Alliholics, for videos!

I just read elsewhere that RCA blocked media from attending this concert. How incredibly bizarre!

  • nehope

Thanks for posting the Allison videos!!!

  • koshka

Thanks for finding the vid. I searched this morning and couldn’t find it.

  • koshka

TwigLA – Maybe they blocked the media because of the VH-1 deal.?. I’m assuming they have first dibs on reporting. Thats my guess.

  • Studio57

    Holiday should be a single.

  • dhunken

Allison was great. I think Adam picked the perfect opener for him. Allison is amazing and has the right vibe and has talent to spare. The Don’t Waste the Pretty she did with Orianthi was fantastic. I think she finally has a single that will get her significant radio play. (which she deserves) This song is a great Pop/Rock song. I think it could be a top 20 hit at least. Come on Radio play it!!!!!!! Great job Alli though I love the endearing name of “Adam’s Little Sister” you showed and proved last night you are so much more. You are an amazing rocker with a voice few have and a personality brighter then the flaming red hair on your head. You’re Allison Iraheta Rock Artist extraordinaire. :-)

No, a WB reporter who paid the inflated prices to get a ticket said they were told by RCA that media would not be allowed (they usually get press passes) due to this being Adam’s first concert on the tour and they wanted to work out the kinks first.

  • mmb

My understanndjng of why no press is bc show was put together relatively quickly and it’s adams first solo show so they wanted a few dates to workout any kinks and get comfortable bf the media reviews etc. Kinda like when a new broadway show is in previews. Can’t wait to see alli ori and Adam in a few weeks. From the videos alli And Adam both did great last night

OK this makes sense too.. Both are reasonable excuses. Why do you think it is bizarre? Doesn’t seem like a big deal either way, unless I’m missing something (which is likely, I don’t read everything).

BTW – I LOVE holiday too. Alli better make it on the charts or I’ll be pissed.

Does anyone know if these are the same band members that she’s had since the beginning?

  • PRMari

No, she has a new bassist, Liz Hill and a new keyboard player, Gerry Mattei. They’re great.

FIBOU is now up too on the Alliholics site.

  • mr

    Fantastically done, Allison!

Her voice really is a rare gem!

Oh- and love the whole “girl power” vibe from that collab. with Orianthi!!

  • Judee

Maybe they blocked the media because of the VH-1 deal.?.

nah. The blocking of media for the first couple of shows are common standard for shows with good enough ticket sales. Lots of acts do it, Gaga included. It has nothing to do with VH1. It protects the artist from being exploited by the media, when there’s buzz around him. finally one good decision from RCA.

Allison was fantastic and they’re fierce together with Orianthi. i read on twitter that the crowd was more dead for Ori than Alli.

  • ppwars

Kudos Allieholics and to whomever filmed for making these vids available. Ori and Alli as a permanent performing team make my brain….

  • iluvai

Oh- and love the whole “girl power” vibe from that collab. with Orianthi!!

    I love that too!

  • revcat

Yeah it’s about time for some girl power!

  • jordison

Thank you so much to madamimadam and Alliholics for providing this video. It was a real treat.

I thought Allison presented herself really well for this opening performance. Selfishly, and perhaps spoiled by the 12 song set in Long Beach, I wish she’d been able to do a couple more songs. I especially missed Killing Me Softly and Trouble Is. Perhaps she’ll vary her set list from night to night? She did Papa Was a Rolling Stone in Bali, so maybe that will show up on one of the non-Orianthi tour stops.

It appeared to me that Alli was in touring voice saving mode, as she seemed to be holding back on some of her high notes. Wise move, and I don’t think it detracted from the performance at all.

Was it me, or did Alli only sing half of Scars? It just seemed to end abruptly.

I’m not sure if I like the guitar in Still Breathing, as it seemed to inhibit Allison’s mobility. I really liked the passion she showed when she delivered the song in Long Beach.

I loved the DWTP with Orianthi, and hope there is much more collaboration to come. I’m sure it will get even better the more they work together. I think they could be a dynamic duo.

As for Orianthi, I think part of the problem with audience reaction is that many of the folks never heard her music before. There were lots of comments to that effect during the streaming. Some folks were loving it, while others felt their lives were going to end if Adam didn’t come out immediately. Allison had the advantage that most Adam fans are already familiar with her music, and they knew there was still another act to follow, so they hadn’t yet gotten quite as hysterical.

I hope that someone, somewhere, recorded Orianthi’s set, as from what I could tell from the horrible streaming, it was outrageously good.

Anyway, Allison got a real nice reception by the crowd. Wish her set was a little longer, but off to a good start.

  • Marie Ruffin

She’s a great talent but she needs better material….and was I missing something? Was there a lot of walkingl up and down the aisle.

  • Karen

With all the whining in the Adam thread about no streaming, etc., for Ali, I thought there would be a lot more action here. I guess some people find it more fun to throw negativity into an Adam thread than to find some place to be happy. So here’s some glitter for Ali … way to go gurl! 8-)

    .

Yes, there was walking up and down the aisle. What’s the point? Alli was the opening act, people were still coming in, getting situated, and, typically, there are a lot of people who are only at an event to see a headliner. As for better material, Heartbreaker isn’t a strong enough cover? Holiday doesn’t rock enough? The DWTP duet with Orianthi was weak? OK, I’m not a big fan of FIBOU, but I thought she did it really well last night. Scars seemed to be lacking something. And, I love Still Breathing, but I’m not sure about the experiment with the guitar, unless she really starts doing some serious guitar work in the number.

    PRMari, where are you?

What negativity are you talking about, other than the comments about difficulty getting tickets? I read through many of the comments last night, and didn’t see any from Allison’s or Orianthi’s fans. And if there were some negativity, so what – they were outnumbered 500 to 1 by Adam fans. If any fans should feel frustrated right now, it would be IMO Orianthi’s fans.

Also, comparing volume of comments on a Saturday morning/afternoon to the opening night of a concert tour with live streaming is of little significance.

  • jordison

I noticed the Wilkes-Barre reporter referred to Allison as AI fourth place finisher Allison Iraheta. I wish the media would please stop doing this. Do they refer to Adam as second place finisher every time they mention his name? Jennifer Hudson – seventh place finisher?; Daughtry, etc.

    Season 8 Idol is over.

  • jordison

In response to Karen, I’m trying to do my part to get the comment count up for this thread. :)

I would love to see Allison reciprocate by doing a song or two in Orianthi’s set. I think Ori has several songs that would work nicely with a duet.

BTW, this snippet of According to You (my least favorite Ori song) is the only video I’ve found so far for Ori last night:

I think so too. Somebody at the show last night said she was hoarse, more than usual. Maybe she was ill, or just saving her voice for the rest of the tour? Last year she almost lost her voice during the first weeks of the tour playing about 10 minutes a night – 3 songs of about 3 minutes each, for like 53 nights. On the current tour she’ll be averaging 5 songs, 20 minutes(4 min a song) and more dates than last year. I think I read Adam is doing 80 some odd shows, which doesn’t necessarily translate the same for Alli, but close. Thats a great deal of hard work, and in taking a quick look at AO, a lot of the dates are back to back nights. I think thats why Adam is incorporating an acoustic set to ease the vocals, because he almost lost it as well last year with only 20 Mins a night for like only 53 dates in comparison to 80 plus shows this time around. Having said that, I didn’t see Alli having a good time last night, or so it seemed from the available videos.

    She was AWESOME

  • MollyAnnMay

Hoarse or not, she doesn’t sound like anybody else I’ve ever heard and I *love* that. And I love the duet with Orianthi. It’s not soup yet, but as they find their way with it over the course of the tour, I have a feeling it could be something amazing and memorable.

I would love to see Allison reciprocate by doing a song or two in Orianthi’s set. I think Ori has several songs that would work nicely with a duet.

I do too! I bought Orianthi’s album after she appeared on AI — not a huge fan of the single, but there are some really fun songs on there, despite her getting some of the same overprocessed production Allison got.

On a personal note, as a long time rock music fan, it is so, so, *so* cool to see two women rocking guitar and voice on a big stage. They’re rare as hen’s teeth, but some of my favorite rockers are women and now I have two more. Yay!

  • Rub

It’s not soup yet, but as they find their way with it over the course of the tour, I have a feeling it could be something amazing and memorable.

Absolutely, and its tricky now since its changed from what she’s been doing before.
I would also like to echo the appreciation of the two women rocking on stage. That pic above is EPIC. Thats a dream come true for Alli, and me.

I keep saying this but I think Heartbreaker features not only Allison’s vocals, but David’s licks. I don’t know if anyone else feels it, but the last 30 seconds of Heartbreaker was raw as heck, love it. Allison orbits around her axeman and head-bangs to his shredding. Nasty stuff, I wish it was longer.

  • PRMari

If you’re refering to me, I’ve been here since this post was started and I’m sorry if you didn’t like it that I mentioned how hard it was for hardcore Allison fans to get tickets. I think I was the only one “whining” over there with my 3 posts amidst the 400 posts for Adam.

I do think she was on voice saving mode and I’m very happy about that. She knows she has to protect her “money maker” as she joked in a recent interview. It’s a sign of her maturing as a performer. The Orianthi/Allison collaboration is so cool to watch. I’d love for these two to get together more often and produce some really cool new rock. I miss rock on the radio stations these days.

  • Tess

I really, really wish I could understand Allison. I know that rock mumbling has and continues to be the norm but I really like someone who enunciates when they sing since I am a lyric fiend. Hope this will improve because I love her voice and stage presence…I just want to be able to understand the song without having to memorize it before she sings. Oh well, I’m not her intended audience so if peeps like the rock mumble, so be it.

    http://www.alliholics.com/2010/06/04/allison-iraheta-starts-the-glamnation-tour/
I think part of the problem for your perception was that she was trying to pack 6 songs into 20 minutes. She seemed to be rushing in order to keep to her schedule, and she was limiting her usual chatter.

Also, I think being an opening act is a little tricky. You don’t want to be boring, but you don’t want to come out like gangbusters, giving the audience the impression you think the concert is all about you, when you know most of them are there primarily (or totally) to see the headliner. I think if you watch Allison at Rock My World, the Long Beach date, the Asian tour, radio dates, TV appearances, etc., she ramps up or tones down her frenetic energy level depending upon the audience and venue. All in all, I think she did great.

  • ppwars

Excerpt from review in times leader: Season 8 fourth-place finisher Allison Iraheta started the evening off with a six-song, 20-minute set highlighted by “Don’t Waste The Pretty,” joined by guitarist Orianthi, a faithful and fabulous cover of Pat Benatar’s “Heartbreaker” and an attitude-filled “Friday I’ll Be Over U.”

Orianthi then did a 40-minute set of her own, capped by an amazing version of “Let’s Go Crazy,” in which the Australian-born guitarist gave Prince (not a bad guitarist in his own right) a run for his money. Her voice is fine, but her guitar playing is spectacular

  • PRMari

I think with certain genres, e.g. opera and musical theatre, enunciation is essential. However, it’s really never been that way with blues and rock. Some of the legends of the blues have been very difficult to understand, lyrically, but yet the message comes through loud and clear through the music.

    For example:

I agree with Rub that Dave’s guitar work on Heartbreaker is excellent. I only wish that it would go on a little longer. I also wish that Ori’s finish on DWTP went on a little longer. Still, I’m happy.

  • PRMari

I like that Dave is finally losening up on stage and he and Allison are interacting a lot more on stage.

Thanks MJ and Alliholics for the videos! It is good to have a separate thread of Allison/Orianthi from Adam’s main act for this Glamnation Tour, so that our smaller Allison community can also participate in these threads and not be lost in a sea of Adam fans. And thanks Adam for fighting for Allie to be his opening act – or as Slezak would say, thanks Adam for opening for Allison ;)

I told myself I wouldn’t look at the videos so that I wouldn’t ruin my live experience next month… but here I am! Haha.

I liked how she opened the show singing offstage like that. I thought she looked like she was having a blast during the whole show… dancing around and stuff. The crowd seemed like they really enjoyed it, too.

It was very cool to see her with Orianthi. I won’t see that at my show, but all will be forgiven in exchange for a little “Piece of My Heart” action… (pretty please?) And maybe some Trouble Is, BMU or really shock me with D or YDKM. I’m definitely not going to watch any videos from non-Orianthi shows so I won’t know until I get there what’s she’s going to do… so excited, yay!

Wow, that FIBOU was the best ever! I’m happy to see she’s still throwing the mic stand despite the Long Beach incident. Its my favorite part of the song (and yes, always the wailing, too).

  • Maryla

Thanks PRM. Only thing is – the venue is very slow to update their official site. It took them a long time after official announcement to update their website for the original 7/28 concert, and it also took them a long time to post the added 7/27 concert after it was announced. I’d call them, but I’m not sure I’d get reliable info from anyone other than the person doing the booking.

  • PRMari

Hopefully she WILL be there, a lot of people are actually hoping to see her there and it’s California, homestate. It makes a lot of sense.

  • jordison

It would be a crying shame if she’s not there. You’re right, it’s her home territory, the Pacific Amphitheatre is a MAJOR venue in Southern California, seating 8500, and it would be an excellent opportunity for some west coast media exposure. The sound system and sight lines are supposed to be excellent since renovation in 2003. We have seats in the back, but they say the viewing is still excellent; and, anyway, there are large screens for closeups. 7/28 sold out quickly, but there are still some seats available for 7/27. It should be a great venue, and it deserves the whole show.

OK alli lurker, I’ll try to explain. But, I don’t have the patience to go back through 10,000 (give or take a few) drooling postings to find the right references. So, bottom line is that Adam is barefoot on stage. People are obsessing over his feet, worrying about whether or not he’s going to step on something, keeping them clean, etc.

I’m also getting the feeling that these concerts are going to resemble Rocky Horror Picture Show – so be prepared when you go. Make sure you wear a big red and purple wig when you go to identify yourself as an Allison fan. And if Allison should decide to change her hair color, complain like hell about how much you spent on the wig.

    Have another drink on me.

jordison - I’ve been meaning to tell you… I went back to Jazzfest in New Orleans this year… the first weekend in May (remember when we talked about it back in the winter?) … saw PEARL JAM (awesome) and wanted to see ARETHA but she canceled (like she she did last year). Saw tons of other people, though. Great fun… hope to go back every other year… maybe Allison will play there someday.

  • jordison

alli lurker, forgot to explain the other joke. On the other thread it was mentioned that some publicity announced that Alexis Grace was appearing in Toledo with Adam. I went to WB Friday night and I thought Allison was fabulous!! She was so hot. She looked and sounded great. I though her set sounded fine, others complained it was a bit too loud. Ori was much louder than Alli, and it may have been too loud.

I was bummed she only did six songs which included an Idol Style version of Scars (about 90 seconds), then Orianthi came out and joined her on DWTP. I already have Alli’s album, love it, but I think I’ll have to grab the single with Orianthi because I love Allison. I loved Holiday.

There were a lot of people getting to their seats while she was playing. I thought of saying something to an usher, but it is a rock concert ya’ know.

Thanks for the feedback madness. Why bother to do a 90 second cut version of Scars? Without the emotional buildup, doing the song is pointless. I can’t imagine the scheduling is so tight she wouldn’t be allowed another minute or two to finish the song.

Here’s a theory: perhaps it was a first night glitch, Orianthi came out too early by mistake, and Alli had to cut it to keep Ori from just standing there. If we could have some feedback from the second night this might prove the theory right or wrong.

  • jordison

There are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC HQ videos of WB Holiday and Heartbreaker (complete, not partial) now up on alliholics. Wow! This needs a new thread.

Rub, if you’re still checking this thread, so much for your theory that Alli wasn’t having a good time in Wilkes Barre. You will go crazy over Heartbreaker.

Anyone who still thinks this girl isn’t a big time performer…well I don’t have an answer for that.

My only complaint, no closeups of Allison’s toes. :) (Joke – requires reading of the Adam threads)

Here’s a theory: perhaps it was a first night glitch, Orianthi came out too early by mistake, and Alli had to cut it to keep Ori from just standing there. If we could have some feedback from the second night this might prove the theory right or wrong.

Based on the second night videos, it looks like she is intentionally doing a shortened Scars. I agree with you jordison, why bother? The amped up vocal on the second half is the best part of the song. (It’s like doing a shortened Trouble Is.) I think she’s either trying to save her voice or keep the energy up in the room (or both).

  • PRMari

Both of those and she’s also trying to stay on schedule. She’s barely saying anything between songs, her set is way too short.

PRM – Do you know when the first Alli only concert is? I might have to stop paying attention when that happens. I really do want to be surprised on July 17.

  • PRMari

Tomorrow actually. Orianthi is in Germany and tomorrow in Toledo, it’s just Allison and Adam. I’m very curious to see what else she does on her set. She said she gets 35 mins when Orianthi isn’t there.

  • jordison

If Allison gets 35 minutes, does that mean that Adam gets more time, or the whole show is just shorter?

What happens if Allison goes 36 minutes?

OTOH, the act directly before Adam is in grave danger of being devoured by hungry Adamaniacs, so maybe she should keep it to 35 anyway.

I want to be surprised on July 17, but I suppose I could be either way. She switched out Robot Love for Still Breathing on the second show. Maybe she plans to change it up along the way.

I think (and hope) the Adam fans will be respectful of Alli.

There are a lot of concerts this year… five nights before Allison, I could see Kris Allen open for Barenaked Ladies at Red Rocks (my fave venue) and the next night Kelly Clarkson is here with Lilith Fair. Four days after Allison, I could see Pat Benatar (she’s 57) with REO Speedwagon (haha) also at Red Rocks. It might be fun to see her after Allison to compare the two. I don’t think their voices are all that similar. Didn’t Pat B have opera training? I think Allison is more like Janis.

  • PRMari

Pat’s voice is probably higher than Allison’s. They both rock, in different ways. Allison is more raw.

I think the overall concert is just shorter jordison. Allison for 35 mins, then a long break to get all of Adam’s stuff on stage and then he goes for an hour. His fans have been very good to Allison so far, hopefully that translates to those of them who haven’t done so yet, buying her album.

Hey jordison, she did have fun at WB from the latest vids, no doubt. I like her set opening with Holiday, and I think Holiday, DWTP & FIBOU will remain constant through out the tour, but alternating the other two songs. Im hoping she drops FIBOU soon enough and add new ones like Pieces, DWBW & TI, though it seems Jive has a strong hold on Alis selections. I also want/would love for her to cover something a little more current, but still somehow throw-in Heartbreaker for respect and authority – I love the riff through out the track, and of course, the homerun solo by Immerman. Jordison, ya gotta admit, she had more fun at Jersey.

Alli lurker, how was Pearl Jam? Im glad you saw them. I think Ali can cover anything Eddie Vedder and sound as if she wrote it. Couple songs – Yellow Ledbetter and Daughter for Allison = win.

  • jordison

I’m guessing that the additional songs for the longer set will all be ones she’s done lately: Killing Me Softly, No One Else, the Joplin medley – Beat Me Up really winded her in Long Beach and I’m wondering if she wants to take that one again with a longer set. She also did Papa Was a Rolling Stone in Bali, so, maybe? It seems like Trouble Is has been held in reserve – hopefully for a strategic drop in the future. Of course, since I said that she’ll probably sing it tomorrow (today for you east coast people).

Have you guys really looked at the Starland FIBOU video on the Alliholics site? (Last one before the Kfest vid) Its FANTASTIC!!! She gives such a great performance, so much energy – LOVE it!! Its funny how she gets the audience to sing all of the ohohoh’s. This might be my favorite song of the set. I definitely think she had more fun the second night. Probably less nerves and the venue may have played a part. She looks really close to the audience in NJ.

I’ve bitched about Holiday in the past but she clearly loves singing it and it really is a great opener. I think its suits her better now than when she was younger.

Rub – Pearl Jam was great. I’m probably not as huge a fan as you, but I like them a lot and they played all my favorites… Better Man, Daughter, Nothing Man, Alive. I had been wanting to go back to this event for years, and when I saw they were making their first appearance there I knew it was time. (That plus Aretha, who I would have loved to see. I didn’t even know she canceled until they announced Earth, Wind, and Fire in her place. I was like WTF??)

Like I said, she’s turning into quite a performer. I’ve noticed that Allison works her audiences differently, depending on the venue. Compare her audience interaction at Long Beach to the Asian tour. Even Wilkes Barre to Starland. It shows a lot of maturity.

I agree that there’s a lot of pressure on an opening night, and Starland seemed to be a much more relaxed, informal setting. So, Allison was really able to let loose and have fun.

BTW, the thing about Alli is you never are quite sure what she’s going to do on the stage (I made a Lucille Ball reference after the Long Beach videos). She might trip over a mic stand, or in the case of this FIBOU it looked like she was in danger of falling off the tiny stage. At one point she did a little backwards skip and it looked like she momentarily lost her balance, and could have landed on her butt. Just another thing that endears her to me.

I love Allison, her music, her voice. She is so talented young artist.

  • Maryla

Does any body knows if Allison is coming with Adam to Rays Gama in Tampa, FL on 9/18/10. I reeally would like to go to see them both.

  • PRMari

So far, she’s not doing any dates past July 20th but that could change.

  • Maryla

    Thanks for the inf. PRMari.
Just wondering, because if she is coming, I could like to start looking for seats in advance.

  • Maryla

    PRMari, thank for the information.
We were just wondering, because if she is coming, me and my friends would like to start looking for the seats to go see her and Adam.
