    Bought it!

Now it says on itunes: released October 20, 2009.
I really don’t understand the handling of this release

  • Tony

    What’s with these non-Tuesday releases?

Maybe they’re trying to buffer the 2nd week sales drop. :)

  • wolfsbane813

    i can’t get enough of this song…

since i’ve had the song since monday and its had 70 repeats so far…. i’m a little obsessed and idgaf. :/ lol

if you look at kris’ release date, it says october 5 so at least they’re consistent. i really don’t understand all this, but it’s funny!

but hooray allison! i hope it becomes a hit.

  • PRMari

It’s so bizarre, why does it say October 20th and they’re already selling it? I feel like maybe it was supposed to be there for preview only but not to actually buy. Maybe someone screwed up; some here say songs only go up on Tuesdays and this went up on a Wednesday night. Weird to say the least. Oh well, I bought it. I don’t think they were expecting a very high debut for the song to begin with considering it was just released a few days ago and hasn’t gotten a radio add date yet. What counts in the end is how much the song sells, whether quickly or in the course of months.

  • CamelliaSin

Seems like different strategy employed by Jive now compared to what happened with Archie’s and Jordin’s first singles. They both had some build up on radio before they were available on iTunes. I think they don’t care about initial sail numbers, but it might be a good idea to have the single available for purchase for those who hear it and love it, should hopefully prevent at least some illegal downloading.
But I agree with the non-Tuesday release, it’s confusing. Hopefully there is some promo next week.

  • Rub

I recommend the iTunes download. The outro sounds vintage Allison and can see her doing a little freestyle live.
The sound is crisper and sharper better than the low quality Aol clip.

  • monte

The release date is somewhat strange. I do wish Allison success but I will not be buying the single – too tweeny for me – but I’m sure lots of tweens will like it and buy it. She should get radio play for this song since it sounds like what is popular right now. I will really be surprised if Adam doesn’t get a Tuesday release date – but I think RCA will do it right.

  • Kirsten

It does seem a little odd this year. Are they trying something new? IDK. Has anybody heard this song on the radio, yet?

Mediabase isn’t reporting anything, yet (but I don’t think they’ve updated this morning). Here is the QuickCut Link.

  • soccerboi

I bought the single and like it. I think it is a bit too tweeny for her i prefer her with a rock edge but whatever…happy for her. Still anxiously awaiting Adam’s release….

  • Studio57

I don’t get the complaints about promo. Both Allison and Kris have had MTV and EW in their corner with major write ups. They came off the biggest show in the US. Twitter world knows it’s out there- something the David’s didn’t even have last year.

In today’s top 10 on Itunes, five of them are brand new or up and coming artists. They all got there by word of mouth, but in some cases it took TIME. Just be patient.

#2 One Less Lonely Girl- Justin Bieber ( Avail Itunes 10/6)
#4 Whatcha Say- Jason DeRulo ( Available 6/9)
    #5 Fireflies- Owl City ( available 7/21)
#6 Replay- Iyaz ( Avail. sometime last month)
    #8 Down- Jay Sean ( available 6/30)

This is Justin’s second song, I believe and he is kind of different in that he is a little hearthrob. The teens are going nuts over him. And not just the little ones- the girls at my daughter’s college thing he’s dreamy too, lol.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

I’ll certainly be buying it when I get home tonight, gotta support our girl! :)

  • dante

Bought it – even though it is tweeny – it will fit nicely in my exercise playlist – and since I love her vocals, I see myself listening to this song alot!!!! Her voice is so distinctive! You go girl!!!

  • Mary102

I don’t think they were expecting a very high debut for the song to begin with considering it was just released a few days ago and hasn’t gotten a radio add date yet.

Well, that answers my next question, which was going to be when is it’s add date. I hope it does well too, and that we get some more press about it.

  • oceana

Bought it, thanks mj for the heads up. It’s too tweeny for me too and too produced, but I love Allison’s energy and attitude, not to mention voice. Great things ahead. I bet this will get radio play and be a hit song. It’ll be fun to watch.

  • Squirrely

    random observation -
What surprises me is with her hair color you would think certain colored clothing would clash but it never does.

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

I bought it. The girl needs to sell her music, and I’m buying. Next to Adam, she’s the other singer out of S8 that I adore. I really want her to succeed. I actually expected even more pop than rock out of this first single than we got, so I’m good. The Kinks style riff in there is a good sign for future tunes.

  • BeckyMD

Is Jive going to arrange some radio interviews (like Kris’ Z100 and Ryan show) and media interviews (where is Jim and Slezak’s interviews??) for Allison?

  • Squirrely

Is Jive going to arrange some radio interviews (like Kris’ Z100 and Ryan show) and media interviews (where is Jim and Slezak’s interviews??) for Allison?

Too busy interviewing Kris 500 times a piece. I love Kris but how many times do Michael and Jim plan to interview him in such a short space of time. Get some Allison love going.

  • Mary102

Too busy interviewing Kris 500 times a piece. I love Kris but how many times do Michael and Jim plan to interview him in such a short space of time. Get some Allison love going.

LOL! Yeah, I agree – kinda getting into Kris interview overload mode with Jim and Slezak – though I’m glad they’re giving him a lot of attention (better than the alternative).

And Slezak especially should be stepping up his game, since he LOVES Allison so much.

  • oceana

I want to see Allison on some tv shows singing this song, and in some magazines and newspapers, yeah, get with it, team Allison. :)

  • Mary102

Is Jive going to arrange some radio interviews (like Kris’ Z100 and Ryan show) and media interviews (where is Jim and Slezak’s interviews??) for Allison?

I don’t think we’ve heard anything yet. I’m guessing it may be more like with Kris, where they wait till closer to the album launch to really have a more complete product to market, and then have her do the rounds then. So we may have to wait till November. Right now she’s probably busy finishing the album up.

I’m not used to having 3 idols at the same time debuting new music, though. Most years it has just been 2 who were signed immediately to the top labels – though I guess S5 had Daughtry, but I didn’t follow the fall releases as closely then.

  • PRMari

What surprises me is with her hair color you would think certain colored clothing would clash but it never does.

IKR? Is like magical hair or something.

I think Slezak will interview Allison at some point but him being in New York and her being in LA working doesn’t make things easy for him.

  • jpfan

Jive is weird this year with both Kris and Allison. I gues they don’t expect a big week for her in sales so they just dropped it on iTunes with no promo, nothing. Kris was handled pretty much the same way.

Allison’s song hasn’t even been sent to radio yet. And it would be better if she premiered it with Ryan or Z100 but I guess Jive doesn’t care about that either. I think she’ll do okay in the end. Very different from past years though. Archie’s single was an event. I think Jordin had more promo but I didn’t really follow her very closely.

  • serenade

Bought it. It’s very catchy and fun. The lyrics seem kind of tongue-in-cheek, young and spunky. Kinda like I think Allison might be based on her tweets.

Whereas, Crush is young but the lyrics seem more earnest and angsty. I can really see a lot of people in turmoil over their feelings for someone relating to that song on a serious level regardless of age.

But both are catchy and both can be dismissed as just a tween song.

On the other hand, I’m completely lost on Jive’s strategy for this. I mean, this is a Max Martin song. I thought that was an indication they were taking Allison seriously. I hope that’s still the case.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/voronas-ontario-american-idol-tour-recap.htm vorona

Bought it. Amazon. Still had my free credit from buying Adam and Kris. Or their albums. Or something. Need coffee.

  • spencer

I bought it this morning and listened to it on my way to work.. honestly, I was hoping her first single was more geared to songs like Cry Baby — I actually had to turn down the volume a bit it felt like she was screaming at me. Anyway, I’m sure it will do well–wish her luck.

  • jpfan

    #85 on iTunes pop

  • mmb

Even tho it is super tweeny I bought it…it reminds me of the music i listened to during my Valley Girl phase in the earlyish 80s…and i figured it would be a good additiona to my workout mix…

  • BeckyMD

Jive is weird this year with both Kris and Allison. I gues they don’t expect a big week for her in sales so they just dropped it on iTunes with no promo, nothing. Kris was handled pretty much the same way.

Kris’ llwd was debut on the largest top 40 radio station, he had several radio interviews here and there including Ryan’s, Jim and Slezak had interview(s) with him and his collaborators, he will have GMA gig and some gig with Fray.

But for Allison, we really had nothing yet.

  • alli lurker

Spencer – Try listening to the song on your way home FROM work. I seem to enjoy it most in the afternoon. It may be a bit too rockin’ for the morning.

I’m not worried about promotion, I think the song will sell itself once it starts getting played on the radio.

  • spencer

^^^^ good idea- I’ll do that! Thanks!

  • Tess

Just curious…..what is a good opening week of sales for a single? And does being a top 10 hit out of the gate really mean anything other than the singer has some kind of a built-in fan base.

Jordin’s singles sell amazingly well and I don’t remember much before the fact promo and I’m from her home state. And her songs stayed in the top 100 best-sellers for months and months.

I’m beginning to feel that many of us internet junkies have had programmed our expectations to be something that reality doesn’t neccessarily follow. I can deny it all I want…but I really want my Idol favs to dash out of the gate and lead the race the whole way around. And, realistically, that doesn’t seem to be the plan or the case.

Maybe Jive likes to give out a taste of an album by releasing a single. Not to sell the single but to create some buzz for the album. Do they want people to wonder if all the songs are going to be like the first release, or will the album hold some big surprises. And maybe they are “sacrificing” the first single just to get people talking about it…and talking about any Artist is good for them in the long run. So many theories!

  • alli lurker

Personally, I’d prefer that she not do radio interviews (except maybe with Ryan), since its not her strong suit. Her interviews can be distracting, I’m sorry to say. Let’s focus on the music.

Just put her on TV and let her sing her little heart out. That’s what sold me!

  • Natasha

Agree. Kris had tons of promo. Most artists would kill for the type of promotion he got but Allison has had almost nothing. What’s going on with this? I think her song can do very well with teens but she needs promotion like anyone else.

  • frogcooke

weirdness with putting it on itunes like this but I bought it :)

  • serenade

Regardless of that fact that Jordin’s success was a slow build, she’s always had radio support for ALL her singles and had it right from the beginning. Tattoo was getting spins for a month before it became available on iTunes. IMO, Jive and her management has handled her career very well.

Crush was also given radio support and became an instant digital sales hit with a strong debut on the Hot 100.

I’m confused about the lack of news about radio support for Allison’s single and that’s been released for sale without radio or any real promo. Kris DID get some of the standard promo from Jive.

  • yinyang

Bought it. It’s very catchy and fun. The lyrics seem kind of tongue-in-cheek, young and spunky.

Very spunky and fun! I’m loving it!
And, age appropriate for a 17 year old.

I don’t get what Jive is doing, though. How do you expect to sell the single if it just suddenly drops, and no one knows about it?

I hope that this is a hit for Allison, though. I keep playing it over and over, even though I’m no where near what I assume is the target age group for the song. But, it’s a lot of fun! Oh Yeah!!

  • Mary102

I tend to agree. Allison can be a bit of a loose cannon in interviews. She’s still so young, and obviously has a very strong, energetic, youthful vibe about her, which is great and realistic (not “pageant” to quote Adam), but it can sometimes rub audiences (especially older ones) the wrong way.

Then again, the single is clearly going after a younger demo, so maybe putting her out there in all that youthful “realism” will just help to build a stronger brand. Hmm, idk. But I guess that’s where the Jive execs get all the money to make those kinds of decisions.

DITTO….The itunes is mp4 vs mp3 from Amazon, with the mp4 a less”lossy” compression algorithm. BEST IDEA? Download both and compare on your player; then, next time you can make a better informed decision (not to mention help Alli’s sales #’s).

  • Mary102

I don’t get what Jive is doing, though. How do you expect to sell the single if it just suddenly drops, and no one knows about it?

I’m glad Adam and Kris tweeted about the song too (along with Allison herself, of course) – is it just me, or is twitter like the only way we’re finding out about some of these releases? (As in, no other official PR really coming out about it).

Has anybody heard this song on the radio, yet?

I heard comments on it and the INTRO only on the Elivs Duran show (KISS) yesterday AM. Nice comments. I stayed tuned for a spin, but there was none.

  • Mary102

I can sorta see this strategy. But is it really being effective? There has been SOME buzz about LLWD – but some of the biggest buzz has not been positive (as in, the controversy about the cover issue, the song not being one written by Kris (which I don’t get, because I think it’s a moot point) etc.)

But this does make sense as a possible strategy from Jive – I do sense a “slow build” approach from them with both Kris and Allison.

  • HotHotHot

I bought it because I like Allison. It’s cute and catchy, but a little loud and bouncy for my regular playlist.

  • alli lurker

roquemocan: Yep! Music video will be AWESOME! Can’t wait!

I could also see her back on Ellen, Conan, Regis (Kelly loves her) & maybe Jimmy Fallon. I’m sure all of this will be in the works eventually.

    Go Alli!!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I bought it at Amazon last night. :-)

Yeah, I agree ‘“ kinda getting into Kris interview overload mode with Jim and Slezak ‘“ though I’m glad they’re giving him a lot of attention (better than the alternative).

I’m guessing Slezak and Jim haven’t interviewed Alli because of Jive, not because of them. These two love Allison and will jump on her promo once they’re given the chance. Jive obviously hasn’t started her media schedule yet. Slightly OT question– is this the first year Jim and Slezak have been covering the the Fall releases like this? I don’t recall them interviewing the Davids last year after the season ended.

I’m not used to having 3 idols at the same time debuting new music, though. Most years it has just been 2 who were signed immediately to the top labels

What happened with Kellie Pickler? Did she have a Fall release, and what was her promo schedule like? She was on a crowded season, too, in terms of signing. I know Daughtry’s dropped late November, and Taylor and Kat dropped in December/January.

  • hoosiermama

Does Allison have a co-write for this song? I’m thinking no, but can’t remember…it’s a great song for her and can’t wait to see her do it live–oh yeah!

  • girlygirl

I don’t think so. I doubt Allison will many (if any) co-writer credits on her album.

Actually the iTunes store audio format is AAC; a more effective and modern compression format. My preferred codec over the antiquated, though more popular, MP3 format. Yesterday I jumped on the Amazon release. Had I waited a few hours, I wouldn’t have 2 FIBOUs. Good for Alli.

Correct on all counts. I forgot that I converted to MP4 to get it into a analytical software package.

    Good one!

I think someone at iTunes screwed up and the Jive people finally caught it and pulled it. However, Amazon seems to still be selling it. I don’t think that’s right either.

  • Tess

Allison’s song is available when I call it up…but I didn’t try it through MJs link since I wasn’t going to buy it. Maybe MJs link has a bug?

  • luvadamlambert

UGHHHHHHHHHhhh IT SAYS BIT AVAILABLE ON ITUNES!!!!!!!D:

  • dhunken

WTF It will not allow me to purchase this on Itunes. It says the availability has changed at this time. Yet you can still see it on I tunes, listen to part of it, and it is number 70 on the pop charts. What am I doing wrong? It is not just through MJ site that the problem exists. I tried it both ways…Through MJ and directly from Itunes.

  • PRMari

It seems that it was a mistake and the song was not supposed to be available for sale yet so iTunes may have yanked it by the request of the label. We were all wondering why would they make it availabe on a Wednesday night, it seems like it was a mistake, someone over at iTunes screwed up.

  • girlygirl

So if they pulled it, what will happen with the sales numbers? Will they be counted in the first week’s sales totals whenever the song is re-leased to iTunes?

Jive seems to have messed up both Kris’ and Allison’s releases in some way — Kris’ with the weird release date and now this with Alli’s…

  • JohnM

I just checked iTunes, and it seemed ready to let me buy it. However, the artwork and the page for the song are gone — I hope that when they put the page back on, the review I posted this morning comes back too!

alli lurker: Try listening to the song on your way home FROM work. I seem to enjoy it most in the afternoon. It may be a bit too rockin’ for the morning.

I strongly suggest listening to it on a good system, preferably with good headphones, rather than in the car. The better sound quality you have, the more you can hear the real Allison in there — not as much as should be there, but enough to keep me happy, anyway.

  • mmb

ok, i can’t stop listening to this song ….still hate the “oh yeah” at the beginning, but love, love the rest of it…unfortunately i had the opposite reaction to LLWD…couldn’t bring myself to buy it at least in part because I just hate the spoken part (which everyone else seems to love but makes me cringe)…oh well, one out of two ain’t bad

  • PRMari

I don’t know that this mistake should be on Jive’s shoulders. It seems like it was an iTunes mistake, not theirs.

Hopefully the sales will still count for her first week numbers. She was doing pretty well.

  • Kirsten

So if they pulled it, what will happen with the sales numbers? Will they be counted in the first week’s sales totals whenever the song is re-leased to iTunes?

No. They were purchased and delivered this week. Each sale will be counted for this week and will not be transferred to some later date.

Just like street violations. Sometimes, stores put out CDs when they get them without waiting for the release date. That’s why sometimes you will see the weekly totals for the first week are less than the total sales. Sometimes, albums even chart based on street violations.

Pre-orders are different. With those, you get charged when the product is shipped so they count for the first week.

  • HotHotHot

I like this song the more I listen to it. It should do very well. (I am far from the projested demo. Hahahaaaa)

  • PRMari

The song is no longer available from amazon either. It’s been pulled from both iTunes and Amazon, I guess someone screwed up big time. All the sales from the two days out will not count for her first week sales. Too bad, she was doing pretty well.

  • adamisthemanfan

ugh It tried buying it and I couldn’t either! What gives?
On Amazon it says “price not available” and I didnt see a link…
whoever screwed up did so big time…unless they are modifying the price, which would suck unless they start selling it for less…oh well

  • PRMari

No, it’s no longer available in amazon either, nothing to do with the price. For the US, it just says not available. Someone DID screw up, big time.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

Damn it – finally got home to buy the friggin’ thing and it’s been pulled. Wish I’d seen your posts before I sat here cursing at iTunes and Amazon! LOL

    What gives? MJ, any ideas?

  • chessguy99

Amazon jumped the gun. iTunes was just claiming its right to match a street date violation they detected. So fault lays with Amazon, as you can’t fault iTunes for trying to protect their business.

  • PRMari

    Fine, then Amazon sucks :)

  • JohnM

    nvm

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Hmm. I mentioned in last night’s thread that I thought Amazon might have jumped the gun (not my exact words), but figured I was wrong when iTunes started selling it.

Still bought it last night and it will still count for her total sales, so I”m not very concerned. If anything, it shows the label that people are interested that it spread by WOM.
