The Voice 10 winner Alisan Porter is the first female to take it all since Season 5’s Tessanne Chin took the crown in Season 5. Additionally, Christina Aguilera is the first winning female coach in The Voice history. After the on stage excitement of the big win, Alisan and Christina sat for a press conference backstage with reporters. Check out the full Q&A right here.

Christina says the win means “everything,” and that she can’t thank Alisan enough for choosing her as coach. “She has been just a blessing,” said Christina. “I was so touched and so moved by her story from the minute she turned around in the Blind Auditions.”

The singer describes the album she’d like to make as having a “folkie, classic vibe.” She continued. “Honestly, this is the first time I’m going to be able to make whatever record I want. I think it’s going to probably be all these things I experienced over this past 10 months that I’ve been doing this. I’ve gone through a lot of different things. I think there’s a lot to write about. Whatever happens during that process will be something organic and natural.”

“I honestly don’t believe there’s one genre that you need to stick to,” Alisan said, “For a singer like me…a songwriter like me, I speak from the heart. Whatever comes out is going to be the kind of record I make.”

Alisan talked a little about her struggle to get sober, which was a major part of her backstory. “I knew that if I changed my life…really honestly…that something eventually would happen,” she said. Also, The Voice was the perfect thing, because she didn’t “have it in me anymore” to seek out opportunities. “I couldn’t imagine it would ever be something as amazing as this.”

Christina Aguilera was the perfect coach and mentor for the mother of two young children, illustrating by example how a woman could have both a family life and a career in music. “Our relationship became comfortable over the weeks,” Alisan said. It became comfortable and natural. Watching her do what she does…it’s just been epic.”

As far as a female duo winning The Voice Christina said, quite frankly: “The Voice has been a boys club since season 1 and I’m not one that hides my feelings or my opinions on things. I am definitely a fiery one and so is this one too. What it really proves to me this season, and by her taking that stage as a hardworking mom with this gorgeous voice. You didn’t play country the whole time, even though you love and adore it. There are double standards out there and sometimes it’s not all fair. [the win] is a true victory for women that work hard, and women that are mothers.” Turning to Alisan, Christina said, “You had your work cut out for you, and you did it babe.”

Alisan’s good friend, American Idol alum Adam Lambert advised her every step of the way! (begins at about 8:10). “Adam…I think we talked every single day throughout this process. From beginning to end with song choices, with outfits. He’s SO particular. He’s like ‘your makeup tonight was perfect except for this!’ He cares for me. We’ve come up together. I was there when he was doing Idol–picking songs at the cafes…it was so crazy for him to be able to do the same thing for me. He’s touring the world…and fronting Queen…for him to be taking time to call me.”

Adam walked her through the difficult and stressful process of competing on The Voice. Alisan joked that the two “bicker” in a friendly way. He thought she needed to sing more current songs. “He’s just so supportive and wonders,” Alisan said. “He’s always ALWAYS supported me, always wanted me to continue…trying to do this work. Having him as a role model and seeing what he’s been able to do, and knowing he wanted the same for me.”
